There probably is a way to do it with C4D Particles (with fields) but much easier in XParticles. We've got plenty of videos for beginners, and a few tutes covering Thinking Particles

We've got LOADS of Octane content already including an enormous Octane course, so we just showed the XP bit to keep the tute short - you can see the Octane setup in the project file though;)

I guess it depends on how complex your scene is - a good GPU will help
