@@slimpyslimpy devs stated that her scene will have a surprising turn of an event that will shock even the og fans. Would Aerith's death really be shocking? I don't think so since everyone is expecting it. One thing is 100% certain. That scene will be different. We know that whispers will be involved and they only appear when the fate is going to be altered by someone. Devs also stated that whispers cannot protect the fate anymore. The ending of remake left them weakened. They will still be around but they are heavily nerfed.

Sorry to burst your bubble for thinking that there's a chance Aerith lives but she will definitely die. According to the devs, it's not whether Aerith lives or die but more about how she will die. The FF7 Rebirth Devs did say that everyone's in for a shock toward the end. So, I apologize for the spoiler in advance but my theory is that Cloud will be the one that kill Aerith instead of Sephorith. Mark my words.
Interesting point. Didnt consider that cloud could kill aerrith..that would be major emotional scene..im still leaning towards that aeriths will be optional

Right after Sebastian killed his friend(Tyler), that's when Sebastian fully comes to grasped what's really been going on in his own mind from the start to where he's now. In comparison, in the OG FF7, we know that Sephiroth has been messing with Cloud's mind. Cloud is not who he is. He pretends to be someone that he's not.. and before Aerith was killed by Sephiroth in the iconic scene from he Temple of the Ancient, Cloud almost killed Aerith himself because Cloud was being controlled by Sephiroth..Cloud is all messed up and confused . Now, who's to say that the FF7 Rebirth devs looked back at the scene where Sephiroth jumped from above and stabbed Aerith through the heart... and go, "you know what, let's shock the fans...instead of having Sephiroth kill Aerith like the OG FF7, let's have Cloud be the one that kill Aerith instead"? At this point, you may say, "that's the stupidest thing..why would Cloud kill Aerith"? On contrary, NO, that's very possible. Keep in mind that Cloud is being manipulated by sephiroth. At this point, Cloud is not who he is. he's not right in the head. Now who's to say that because Sephiroth f*cks with Clouds head so much that led Cloud to have a split personality disorder -- all being manipulated by Sephiroth which made Cloud see/think in his own mind that it's Sephiroth that had killed Aerith but in reality, it's Cloud that really killed Aerith. Does any of this make sense?
Not gonna happen. Cloud will not kill her. That would make Cloud irredeemable. I don't know what will happen but i know for a certain that Cloud won't kill her. I'm 1000% certain of that. She either survives or gets killed by Sephiroth. There is nothing in between. There is a 50 % chance of her survival. Hamaguchi and Kitase both stated that this scene will be a big surprising event that will shock both og and new players. Aerith dying would not be a surprise nor a shock. If Aerith survives it would be both.
