#Tracker #4x4 Авто/Мото
Every generation of the Suzuki 4x4's has been seriously impressive. They are like scaled down Land Cruisers.
Friend of mine had one back in the 1980's. You sat real high in those, like a Jeep. Wasn't anyplace that little car couldn't go.
Great vehicle.
I grew up with one. Best winter 4x4 ever. Wish I was softer on it and still had it.
couple donuts in the snow never hurt anyone😎
I've been looking for one. They're scarce in my area precisely because, Man, were people ever hard on these things.
I owned this model: 1991 Geo Tracker ragtop in black. It was an absolute blast to drive around town in the sun.
The downside was that 80hp gets you nowhere quickly, and it's so light that I did not feel safe driving in heavy winds.
Still miss it sometimes though...
My dad bought me a 1991 tracker brand new in high school. One of the best vehicles I ever had, the convertible was awesome!!
It was like driving a go-kart off road…so much fun. I drove mine down the east coast. Top down…one of the best road trips I ever had
I remember when putting the engine from a Geo Tracker into a Suzuki Samurai was a popular conversion.
1.3L to 1.6L.
P-O-W-E-R baby! Yeah! 😃
Most recent popular engine swap for the Sammy is the 2.3 from the Suzuki Aerio.
I'm about to do a 1.6L 16v swap into my samurai soon on my channel
Mo powa baby
One thing you forgot to mention is the incredible mpg these things get! All stock, a 5 speed can get 30 mpg!
I learned to drive on a 1994 manual Pontiac Sunrunner in Quebec and it was the best!!! People don’t understand how much kids who had access to one back in days loved them. I now drive a Wrangler very similar to Tommy’s because I adore Jeeps, but also because it’s the closest thing to the Sunrunner…
I love the Tracker! Thought about buying one for years to use strictly as a trail rig but I never have.
Love the Classics, Tommy. Keep finding 'em!!!
I been wanting one for 10 years. Finally got one this year. One of the most fun vehicles I ever driven
Nice, my first car was a 94 4dr sidekick that I got for 800 bucks. That thing got me through high school and college. Fun little truck but it was ridiculously underpowered. I live in the Sf bay area and I didn’t feel it had the power to make it up the elevation gain to the Lake Tahoe area where I do a lot of camping and fishing. I sold it and upgraded to a 2006 4wd Toyota Sequoia which I absolutely love. These little sidekick/trackers will always have a place in my heart. They are fun, cheap, small and capable suvs, something that isn’t made anymore.
Hey TFL thanks for the inspiration for my latest video. You guys just introduced this thing to thousands of people who never heard of ithem and now you guys probably increased their value. They were already on their way up in value. The one I bought was listed at $10,999 and I talked them down to $7000. I made a video showing my Tracker and talking about you guys increasing their value even more.
I had one of these and it was awesome. I drove it up goat roads, through the mud, over rocks, and drove it from Kentucky to Washington, D.C., and back when it had 190,000 miles. 28 mpg at 75 mph!
I had a lifted 98 TJ and a stock tracker at the same time. I sold the Jeep. I liked the tracker much more, funner to drive, better fuel mileage, better ride, more reliable, and fit on way more trails the jeep couldn't go. Also, I did't have the same 5 mall crawler jeep people waving to me a work every morning. The stickers are right, It's a jeep thing and I don't understand.
No crap, I had a 77 cj7 , I wanted to flip people the bird when they would "jeep wave" at me it their jku four door minivan , freaking pink accents and angry eye headlights, if my great grandfather was a flat fender war hero and someone put me on lowpro fake mud tires on 26s and painted my frame purple I'd probably look mad too😂
I had a YJ and tracker at the same time, the tracker literally does do everything better. Nicer interior, double the mpg, way better road manners, better gearbox, better top setup, way smaller and better in tight trails. It's just better at everything.
I didn't have them at the same time but my AMC yj was a putz compared to my sidekick.
Thank you Tommy. I bought a brand new 89 Suzuki Sidekick JX for $9500, drove 5 years 180k and LOVED IT - easy car to maintain, good mpg. Before that they only offered Samari. Look into Suzuki Jimny or Mitsubishi Jeeps
A former girlfriend of mine had one of these. We lived on the coast in SC & it was the perfect little beach buggy! What a blast! Nathan would love one of these, since he’s such a Sami fan😆. To answer your question, Suzuki did import these to the states as the Sidekick. There used to be a Suzuki dealership in Savannah, Ga & I remember a lot of them on the lot.
These are great rigs for a cheap and reliable 4x4 , here in Puerto Rico we have 2 door hardtop sidekicks, great 4x4 little trucks, good gas mileage reliable and cheap to own and maintain, makes for a great beach car here in the island.
Do they rust heavily with the salt in the air?
@@bldontmatter5319 as any car they will rust if exposed to salt in the environment but overall they are really solid trucks, and we have a lot of the on the road still, they build them up here for everything from serious off road to beach cruisers
I owned a '91 Sidekick 2 door, 5spd 4WD rag top (loaded model power windows, locks, map light etc...only thing it didn't have was A/C) up here in Canada...now own a '90 Chev Tracker with that I transferred all the interior from the Suzuki (they had the nicest interior and options) to the '90 before I scrapped it...it will be my son's first vehicle...eventually it will be getting a frame-off restoration...awesome little buggies...
Awesome Video! Its great to see you Guys bringing in these really cool guests with really cool 4x4s
I love these things. My son just got a suzuki xl7 and we love it! The 2 door small versions are awesome off road.
Had an 2000 Vitara and it was excellent as a beater vehicle. Very capable and super cheap and easy to maintain. It had 4X4 and AC which worked great.
Obscure? Those were everywhere in the 1990s! My '91 Sammy went everywhere it was pointed back in the day.
Yeah the key phrase there is back in the day. They're getting rare nowadays.
Even 10 years ago we still had Zukikrawlers forum and the community was much bigger.
I wish I lived out west, my samurai would be in a hell of a lot better shape.
Of course it depends on the time. You hardly see them these days, even on RUclips.
Here in Ecuador it was the Suzuki Vitara and it was in production until 2012. it´s a real, fun, realiable 4X4.
Great video Tommi , THE GEO TRACKER, boy did i sell /lease almost 200 of these in my career with GM Canada and also drove them in Manitoba winters, the Suzuki Sidekick was the same vehicle platform , they got a few more options than the Tracker and did offer a slightly different engine, if memory serves me correctly the difference was a 16 valve head on them the rest of the internals were the same, for the North American market they were all built in a plant in Ontario Canada side by side on 2 separate assembly lines, it was a joint venture between Gm and Suzuki, this was how Suzuki first got there cars built in North America to avoid the huge import duties on cars, this is when the old Samurais were no longer sold in North America as of 1986/87, the Tracker is a super capable little 4x4, i drove one every winter i worked in the industry and it always started no matter how cold and had fantastic heat, the one option the Sidekick got the Tracker didn't was a heated seat option, i don't remember the year, i never found it to be a problem, they just had great heaters and they would handle snow bumper deep and water of the depth and i did this many times with my demos, LOL, I spent tons of dollars at the carwash to remove any mud or grass from the bottom of it😂,, good times/memories, maybe I'll look for one this winter while i am giving my old Volvo some long over do love in the body/paint dept, 👍
The 4 door Sidekick was great too. A bit wonnly in the wind on the interstate.
These evolved into the LX 7 later. Also nice.
My grandpa had a 20 of these we use to drive them around as kids ! I had a 97 geo I drove for years !
Here in Florida you used to see these all over the place. Now, you rarely see one since they got used up and driven into the ground.
they rusted out 15 years ago in wisconsin.
You should look for a well built Sidekick/Tracker/Vitara/Escudo/Levante.
I have one with a 3.5" suspension lift on 31" tires. Set up a small an overlanding rig.
Kentucky comment here. Some of my family owns a boat shop, and probably 10 years ago, they took a 2 door Sidekick in on trade for something. Looked exactly like the Tracker, but it was indeed a Suzuki Sidekick. I was actually going to wind up having that as my first vehicle, but something else came up. My dad drove a Tracker for a while, and they're fun little rides!
Lived in Gold Hill in 1994 had a 1990 Tracker powder blue we called the Ken Mobile but it rocked off-roading. Switzerland trail, winter runs up and down sunshine canyon and that trail that you guys used to run up flatirons that connects to boulder canyon road.
I have a 2WD Sidekick and you'd be amazed at how capable that thing is off road. Super fun vehicle! Owned it for 15 years and it runs like a champ.
Just got a Geo Tracker this year. Been wanting one for 10 years.
Great little 4x4. Easy to Maintenance. I own a 1989 Suzuki Sidekick, 2 door hard top. Takes you anywhere
One of the best video is because of how you two jived together, great video and informative because we're buying the 4d sidekick.
A girl in high school had one of these...but it was called Asuna Sun Runner.. Same car.. I remember the Geo Trackers. Rough ride.. wheel base too short but very capable vehicle..
My dad had one. I remember riding in it as a kid a few times when I was like 4-5
they made 2 door sidekicks and trackers. the 4 doors sidekicks are my favorite. I had a 1987 samurai as a car it was slow but very reliable!
I just TODAY bought a 1993 Tracker 5spd 4x4 2 door from the original owner with 86k miles !!
i owned a few of those in the past. Amazing woods buggies. Canada had Suzuki Sidekicks, Trackers, and Sunrunners
Your right,,,,, Suzuki Sidekick, Geo Tracker, then Chevrolet Tracker and the the Pontiac Asuna Sunrunner. (I have actually seen disagreements on the Sunrunner naming,, haha, so call it what you want.) The simple removable hardtop option was pretty nice for these as well.
Great little trucks. I was in the UK from '95-'98 and the Vitara was all the rage. There were gajillions of these little guys on the road. Awesome trail rigs, but not lots of living space...esp in 2 dr form.
My 96 tracker was my favorite car of all time, still miss it
I have 2 of these up in montana. They are so much fun to drive around, one chevy tracker and one geo tracker. same exact car the funniest thing.
Over here in Asia, they call them the Suzuki Vitara and the 4 door versions are call the Grand Vitara. Fitted with 1.6 inline 4s or 2.7 V6s.... Both either with 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual
they were the exact same here in Canada, nice units
H20a engine not h27a. H27a is xl7
I had a 98 auto/ac 2dr soft! And still regret getting rid of it. After seeing this I'm gonna look for another
Good interview Tommy. Fun to watch.
I have 4door 1999 one and love it. Would had been awesome to see him take care that around your track
One sold on bring a trailer a couple months ago for $23,000 and they will continue to rise in price definitely one of the MOST UNDERRATED SUV’s of all time 💪💪🌍
but tommy said it was cheap! lol
Just got mine in January. PAid $7000 for it. Should of got one 10 years ago!
@@JohnDrivesAnything I remember when for $2500 you would get a near MINT one 😂🤣😂 not no more good luck with yours it will be worth way more than 7k in the not so distend future 💪💪
@@omyswiftlourido4161 I just made a video on if TFL just increased the Value of Trackers. I would love your opinion and I show my not cheap $7000 tracker in the video lol
I had a 1990 suzuki sidekick 2 door 4wd. Got it with a soft top and 90k miles for $1400 in 2012. Got a hard top for $400, had to do some repairs to the rusting out floor but was the FUNNEST car i've ever owned.
Just got myself a 1992 twodoor with ac , 5 spped manual transmissions, locking hubs , removable top . Idle was at 300 two spark plugs were so loose blowby was happening , the man said the water pump was leaking .
After i got it home found out it was just the thermostat was leaking . After a day of TLC runs like a top .
Only gave 2000 for it , this is going to be a fun little truck to drive on all theses back roads and trails .
thanks for blowing up an ALREADY HARD TO FIND GEM! (love the content)
Just took a peak online... Some are asking $14,000 for their clapped out Trackers. That's about what they sold for NEW!! 😮💨
There are still lots of them in Puerto Rico. It was sold as a Suzuki Vitara in here, the Geo one was rare. They were pretty nice and reliable for the time. Its a shame Suzuki went out of the US market.
I just imported my 94 black two door tin top to Puerto Rico and I have not yet seen another one just Suzuki Vitara’s mostly convertible two-door tin tops are very rare here on the island 🇵🇷
My aunt had a 2 door Sidekick for years in Virginia. That beautiful neon green lol
Have you guys done one with the Suzuki Samurai? I loved that thing! I did some insane off roading with it and it was very reliable! I even got air with it! Yes, I would do jumps with all 4 tires off the ground!
"Батюшка" on that guy's t-shirt :)
Love these quirky 4x4 features! The driver looks a bit like Shooter Jennings.
Wife and I had a old Suzuki 4 door manual transmission Sidekick, slow as molasses, but would go anywhere, we called the lil moutain goat, man we loved that lil thing, I was hoping Nathan had bought this one and it was in the TFL family
That's funny, my brother calls mine the Billy Goat
One of the best off road vehicles ever sold in the usa.
I own a badged and titled 92 2door sidekick 5 speed manual. It's the first year with automatic locking front hubs and there awesome
I've always like these weird little half convertible 4x4's. Isuzu Amigo was my favorite.
One of these was on bring a trailer recently. I was tempted to buy it
I've always like them especially the newer ones early 2000
Sidekick where sold in 2 doors both soft top and tin top in canada from 1989 throught 96
I had a tracker back in the 90s 5sp manual. Tough little vehicle but the soft tops were the worst.
Hey! I have a suzuki sidekick jx 2door. Everything is badged Japan. This little truck rocks.
I had a 1995 Tracker 4x4 with 5 speed, was a tough little vehicle.
Geo tracker! my neighbor had one it was so fun to ride in.
Tommy, The Tracker and Geo are both overdue for a comeback. Having said that, I fear GM would have Daewoo build them today. 🤨
the rest of the world calls them Suzuki Jimny
Daewoo building them would be the least of my concerns since it would probably be a fwd crossover with no personality
Chevy should re introduce the Tracker as a bare bones affordable 4x4 offering and call it the OG Tracker. "OG" would be a wink and a nod to "Geo" and would GOAT it at the same time. If done right they could make it as timeless and classic as the Geo Tracker. The problem with this idea is government safety regulations would make it have to be 20% larger and fill it with computers people (me) don't want. You can tell I've actually put some thought into this over some time. I daily a Tracker lol
@@Meche697 or Suzuki Vitara (Spain)
They actually do make the Chevy tracker outside of america, it’s a crossover that looks like the new blazer.
i just got an 89 fully re done. spent 14k here in Canada. they average at 6K for "beaters" with 250k+ KM's and since re build it has about 1.5K KM's
I love these vehicles but I wish there was more of a after market support for them like lift kits and what not..
HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE
You too buddy
What a nice terrain. I live in germany so offroading is kinda Impossible here. I would drive the whole day thru this hills if I could.
I bought a Samurai this past Spring. I can attest to the horrifying ride quality, but I knew that going in and have loved owning mine so far. Crazy reliable as well, I haven’t had any issues.
I got a samurai years ago ride quality sucked got another one a few months ago installed a lift and mounted some longer shocks drives like a dream now at least comparing to a stock one
I have a 89 two dr sidkick i caniblized the back half of frame off of and put it on a 96 geotracker
FYI- It was available as a Suzuki Sidekick as a 2 door in the US back in the 90’s. Then GM started selling it as a Tracker. GM even made a ZR2 version of it.
It was not one sold then the other, it was both selling at the same time. I drive an '89 Tracker, the first model year. Prior to '89 Suzuki sold the Samurai in the states.
@@gypsonny2 the Sidekick first started in 1988. Then GM sold it in 1989. The Sidekick came about after consumer reports wrote an article about how the Samurai had a tendency to lift a wheel when pushed to its limits at higher cornering speeds. The Sidekick was wider and lower to counter this. Then they phased away the Samurai by 1995.
My family owns a junkyard and I remember crushing so many of these things. It's kinda sad because I'm sure they are worth something to someone now but many of them died at my hands.
in high school my friends had 2 door trackers and 2 door sidekicks
A 1996 RAV4 two door was sold to my friend for $30 he put replacement shocks on this and he registered it. Eventually he had to buy a new soft top.
Damn I told you guys to buy my tracker back when you were doing the cheap truck challenge. I would like to wheel with this guy in my sidekick with welded diffs 31s 16v and see how they compare
I had a two door 1998 Suzuki sidekick. My ex wife rolled it down a hill and got stuck in it upside down….. I sure miss the Sidekick👍.
Why didn’t wish’s Johny depp take it thru the course?
the short wheel base may ride rough but the 4 door rides like a flying carpet
get that thing to do the IKE!!
I’d like to see a 2nd generation Chevy Tracker ZR2 also
you guys gotta check out the first gen rav4 2 door convertible
You guys must of been in my head. They made a zr2 version of the Chevy tracker.
I sold my ‘94 in ‘98 because i wanted a 300ZX. I still regret selling it. I loved it.
Cool video. Cool car. Unique character that owns it. Lol.
I got a Tracker at the beginning of the year. I have a bunch of videos of it on my channel. It wasn't cheap I think I bought the most expensive one in the country at the time lol
I'm subbed to you! Lol, we've exchanged in the comments. I got my Tracker back after Transmission repair and it runs like a top. I still have to make that video...
@@gypsonny2 You inspired me to not give up on my Tracker and junk it when it blew a head gasket.
What a cultivated image
Every time they make a video like this, the “bargain “ ceases to be a bargain
I used to have one. It was a fun little car.
Finding one of these with a manual 4x4 option has been uneventful for me. And if you do find one, they want over $10k for it. At least down South where I’m at. That’s an awesome ride at a great price.
eBay
They made 2 door convertable Suzuki sidekicks here. They just sold more trackers cuz of gm’s dealer network!
I have a 2 door tracker and a 4 door sidekick I would love to lend one of to TFL to be featured in a cheap challenge video! Located in utah.
Geo/Suzuki tracker/sidekick 2 doors where available in the states I see them both all over but the GEO was more popular on the western United States the seats where slightly more comfortable in my opinion
You can always tell the difference between the two by the seat head rest on the Sidekick. I think the Geo seats are way ahead of their time, a very good design
My 96 Tracker has 90s graphics that match the infamous fountain drink cup
Our Trackers are twins
Just bought an 89 2 door Sidekick with 110k today for $4800.
Check out acme adapters vw diesel conversion for these
Oh could this be my next project for my channel ? lol I love my Xterra and working on it but it would be fun to work on this little guy and do some fun cool mods on it hmm interesting
Had a 94 4x4 geo tracker black miss it with the bigger engine
Love, love ,love the Suzuki 4x4’s
Got mine this year I'm becoming a small zooki 4x4 fanatic
Suzuki Vitara finally reached the US.. Absolutely outstanding offroad vehicles
The vitara has been in america, they just rebadged them.
Hey Tommy, you guys should get the ZR2 version of the Tracker for the channel!
It may be easier to find a second generation just because of age and rust and stuff, but they were not as good off-road as the first gen.
I was just saying the other day that they need to bring back the side kick.
I share this sentiment. I've restored one a drive it daily. They don't make them like they used to, that's for sure.
