Thanks for these. I am always trying to learn more about the other departments, and this is great to see someone explaining what is happening on set.

Truly great content and exposition! Jusy one missing piece IMHO: seeing matching a wide/master to the close ups wich is really complex . thanks again for posting!

the fun part is that no one except the guy trying to get graet lighting will ever notice that, for example, the reflection on the picture in the background is more subtle. in short: it
s nice people enjoy their job, but one can overdo it ^^

Mr. Kress seemst to be obsessed with the word " little. He said it 269 times in less than 10 minutes. Fucking unbelievable.

the fill light is creating an unatural look when she hugs him: the light on her hands is too powerful. It should've been placed at the limit of the two actors not behind him or by contrary far behind him.

      You make a valid point.
I think that Eric was looking for a "wrap-around" fill, from the same side as the main source. The fill couldn't be placed farther back though because of the set wall.
You may be interested in part 2, where Eric replaces the fill with a top light, which is another solution:

Benjamin, its incredibly rude to speak over your guest and to finish his sentances. If he is running the workshop, let him run it. A lot of the time you were speaking more than he was.
