- Hey, check it out, I got a new guitar lol
I'm back with more Theocracy! This time I'm covering the masterpiece known as "I Am" off of their album "As The World Bleeds" (The greatest album of all time fyi)
This is probably the hardest song that I know how to play (It's surely the most technical solo I know) so it's a little sloppy in some places. Please understand.

Awesome job!!!! Can’t count how many people I’ve showed this video to….very impressive!Did you write out the tabs as you learned it? I saw in another reply the tabs you found online had some inaccuracies and it sounded like you had to correct portions yourself as well as sort of piecemeal it/patch it together.

Thank you! There was a video that Matt had uploaded playing all of the rhythm parts that I referenced ( ruclips.net/video/kzyF3WYKFGg/видео.html ). The first solo I had to learn by ear and then the second solo I believe I did find tabs for somewhere, although I didn't play it exact to the tabs (the tapping part was wrong if I remember correctly. The sweeping was a little different than how I played it as well)

haha yeah I'd heard about that. It sucks because Val is one heck of a guitarist. I'm gonna miss him in the band.
The thought of auditioning has crossed my mind, but I don't think I have the writing capabilities to fill his shoes

(I apologize if I asked this before on another video comment) What recording software and/or interface do you use? I’m wanting to get into the RUclips channel gig myself but I’m just curious.
Thanks! Glad I could be an inspiration! I use an iRig HD 2 interface now (In this video I just used the standard iRig) and I use a mix of JamUp Pro and Garageband for recording/mixing (Both running on an iPad mini)

Did you transcribe this by yourself?
Some of it. Matt Smith (Theocracy's singer) has a couple videos showing how to play most of the rhythm riffs, so that's where I learned those. I learned all of the cleans during the verse by ear, as well the first solo at 3:20 and any riffs/chord progressions that Matt didn't teach. I had originally tried to learn the main solo from a tab, but the tab was a bit inaccurate (Specifically the sweeping and tapping from 7:24 to 7:32. So I learned that by ear). I used the tab to learn everything from 7:32 to 7:52 and then I learned the rest of the solo by ear.

Dude, this is really cool. I've watched it several times. I've gotta ask though... How many hours did you have to practice to get this down? I get the feeling it's a *lot*. (Not a knock on you at all, this is a very difficult song.)
Thanks! While practicing I'd usually play the solo over and over again for about 30 minutes straight, then play through the whole song 5 or 6 times. I did this every single day for like three months before I finally covered it. I'm not sure how many hours I spent practicing exactly, but yeah, it was definitely a lot lol
30m - Solo, for 3 months (90 days) = 45 hours
Whole song every day 5-6 times, 1 hour a day = 90 hours
So... assuming you never practiced *more* than 5-6 times (Which I'm going to hypothetically say you probably did a few times?) you spent at least 135 hours learning this song.
DANG. That's intense. But tbh this may be my favorite guitar cover I've ever seen.

Yeah I definitely practiced more than 5-6 times on some days, and other days I practiced less. I was more trying to guess the average. I should also mention that I already knew how to play the whole song when I began practicing for the cover, so counting the time I actually spent learning the song would make that number *much* higher lol
I didn't learn it all at once though. I started with just the intro, then a few weeks later I learned the chorus, then came back and learned the verse a few months after that, and so on. I'd say overall from the time I started learning to the time I finished was probably a span of about two years. The solo I learned last, and right after I finished learning it I immediately began practicing everything all together for the cover

While I would like to have a huge collection of guitars someday, that's not the only reason I bought it. The biggest reason I bought it was because It has a Floyd Rose locking tremolo (something I've wanted for a while now) But it's also just an overall higher quality instrument than the other two that I own.

I'm probably not the best person to ask as I haven't played many guitars outside of the ones that I own.
I've never played a Jackson but I know that they're pretty popular and, from what I hear, they make quality instruments. It'll probably be an upgrade compared to the Squier, at least.
