I just finished doing this today for a customer and rather than removing steering arms I turned the steering wheel all the way to the right which moved the arms out of the way and the compressor came right out. I did not have to remove anything else. Great tip using the ratching swivel wrenches.
But it does give you a lot more room to work on the air conditioning and compressor system when you take the wheel off and take the front fender well off everything's right there then you don't have to worry about taking the cooling fan off or the fan shroud or any of that so I give him points for that.
I just did this on my 02' F150 5.4. Only I was super cheap and slapped in a $36 newish-looking compressor I found on a truck at the junkyard. I did put in a new dryer. It works though and the a/c blows ice cold. I also removed the idler arm, and yea it took some wiggling to coax the old one out, but really it's not that bad of a job.
Great video, thank you! Question, before I get in there, I am pulling my engine tomorrow, and wondering if I could just move the compressor off to the side without losing its charge?
I'm going to be doing it with the V6 engine, but also replacing the dryer. Will take a look if moving the steering linkage out of the way will help. There may be more room in the 4.3 L version.
Got done with it. On v6, comes out easy from the top after intake filter removed. Easy. Even the dryer tower came out easy after pulling out the wiper fluid reservoir. Only had to disconnect upper radiator hose.
Golden!!👍👍 thank you sir. I’m about to do this job on my 2000 f150 .. question do I have to vacuum anything if I install a new compressor .!! ? Thanks.
You’d have to recover the refrigerant then vacuum. Best to just pay a shop to do it right. Don’t what moisture in your system that could kill the compressor a few years down the road possibly.
@@EastDallasKicks thanks !!all the refrigerant leaked out overnight ..sucks but oh well !! Turns out there was a hole on the condenser . I end up replacing AC compressor , radiator and condenser since they were about 20 year old ..
Nice installed I know it was little over a year but question I have ask, what brand of compressor did you use and do you remember the model number on the green tag 2:59 mark in the video. Thanks
@@adrianvega4817 including ac recharge that’s about 30 mins so rough estimate a good 3 hours from taking the compressor out installing the new one and recharging the system it didn’t take me long at all even recording it still felt like a 3-4 hour job and that’s from stopping trying to explain so I’d say 3 hours total
Not true. The compressor just fits behind the steering linkage on 4WD. You place it completely vertical, slide it part way up, turn it 90 degrees and up it goes. Drop the back and there it is. No taking the fan off. No fighting the steering linkage. I'm not even sure you have to take the idler arm off. I did but it might have fit had I just turned the wheels to the driver side.

Before adding refrigerant, you gots to vacuum down the system to make sure no leaks or air in system.
@ Trader Jay, I was wondering if he was going to mention that. Yes you do need to pull the vacuum on the system so it will work correctly.

Thanks for the video and pointing out the removal of the steering linkage bolts. That saved a ton of time.
This video has given me a better understanding on how to remove my ac compressor
Dude thanks for the video. All I could find was bypass videos. Right on!!!
Anything to help

36$ and it’s blowing cold can’t beat that lol
Finally someone who actually shows how they did this job, so sick of the ( recharge ) videos. Just adding a can of refrigerate doesn’t fix the issue.
Thanks for this bro very detailed much appreciated 🤙🏼
Thanks 😊 so much for your fix. The making room part for pulling out the compressor is what really got me. Good 👍 video
No problem!
Awesome video man. After watching this I think I can definitely do this one on my own, appreciate you!
🦾🦾🦾 slight work ! You can do it

Very good video. Thanks for the linkage tip.
Thanks for the great tips. Great video!
Say look out eazy Auto 4show bro you are the best 👌
Appreciate that !!

Yeah moving the steering linkage made it way easier hope the video helped

Thank you, thank you! Huge help.
Do I have to drain the coolant in order to remove the A/C Compressor or is that just Freeon on the ground?
No you don’t have to drain the coolant that’s Freon
Golden!!👍👍 thank you sir. I’m about to do this job on my 2000 f150 .. question do I have to vacuum anything if I install a new compressor .!! ? Thanks.
If the system is full of Freon then yes it would need to be vacuumed but if there’s no Freon in the system then it’s fine to take apart
@@Eazyauto awesome thanks for that .. 👍

I most likely got it from Napa since it was directly across the street from the shop
@@Eazyauto Thanks I will look into it.
There are 597 videos of people hating on ford for that compressor pain in the butt…
I’m a hater… but you get my thank you .
Glad the video could help !
Thanks a lot!
how long of a job will you consider it ?
It’s about a 2 hour job taking everything out and puttin it back in not that bad

That way works for a 2wd I got a 4wd so unbolting the steering arm thing won't do it.
I seen people take it out from the top but that consisted of taking the fan off to get that clearance to take it out

Now you need an alignment
Didn't say anything about disconnecting the lines.
On the Ac compressor?
You don't have to do all that to change the AC
Not on a f150 v6
I have on a v8 in the description
Man cough all that shit up before u do the vid
🤣🤣🤣🤣
