It's funny that they originally wanted a realistic aesthetic (which by today would be dated), but because of the limitations of the hardware they went with a stylized, animated aesthetic making it timeless.
Nikita Yakovlev I just got it for switch yesterday days ago, already put 12 hours into it. I couldn’t have picked it up at a better time with all the craziness going on in the world it’s a great escape.
This is probably my favorite game of all time. No other game I have played in my life has ever been as fun and as much of a visual spectacle as Okami. It's just so incredibly inspired and it was a true celebration of a rich culture. I don't even really like anime or most JRPGs. I just love Okami for showing me a different way to appreciate Japan's unique flavor.

Looked up at the american amazon market and it appears that there is a physical copy with english subtitles. However, the thread opener wanted a WII version, and as I know, there is no digital download for games apart from the nintendo games itself, so wanting a WII remake without a physical distribution for the HD remake for PS3 is not even in the slightest possible chance.
I LOVE Okami. My all-time favourite game. The official art book is full of cool little bits of trivia too. One of my favourites is that Susano's hairstyle is modelled after that of Keith Flint from The Prodigy.
The best Zelda game that Nintendo never made. This is one of the finest videogames I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing and the HD version is just gorgeous. It's a damn shame that Clover closed down as the game ends in a way that promises more adventures but now the game stands as one of those beautiful one offs that will always be fondly remembered. I can't believe I've had this game since day one on PS2 and have played it through several times yet never clocked that the Celestial Brush was Ammy's tail.
When he was talking about the ign logo on the Wii version of okami, I went and grabbed my copy of it and sure enough it was there. I never noticed it before but now i can't unsee it. lol

That wasn't a sequel, it was a half-assed cash-grab by Capcom. The makers of the original, Clover, were already long disbanded, and had formed the new studio Platinum. Okamiden was a husk that lacked its predecessor's charm.
MESeele It was a bit lackluster compared to the original, but I don't think it was completely dead of all the charm. I still rather enjoyed it, though that is subjective. I think you're giving it too little credit, but again, opinions.
Mmm, perhaps you're right... Some way into the game I realized something was off, and it just stayed that way, then it got worse. It made me sad. As for the comment's...err, aggression. The video just hit the part about the Wii version's ending being stripped out by Capcom when I started the comment. I remember being infuriated when I reached the end in anticipation for... well, then nothing happened. They deprived the original staff of any credit for what they put so much work into, and instead slapped a big capcom logo on. I honestly just wish they'd hand over the IPs back to Platinum. Instead, they will never be touched again. Okami is my favourite game, and it deserved better that sitting in Capcom's closet.

They really need to port Ōkami HD to the Wii U or Nintendo's next console. Imagine the game with the PS3 visuals, but using the gamepad's touchscreen for the Celestial Brush.
Although minor, they also changed the sky in Mr and Mrs Cutter's home area. The original game's sky in that area was very hypnotic in the black labeled ps2 version. They changed it to a plane beight red sky since then. That, and the sensual sounding "Clover" at the begging was changed because of the change in companies lol.
I figured this as the entire Okami series, but I guess Okami itself is such a huge game you could do a series about it, pointing out things like the Japanese origins of the characters. Here's another fact, though. After discovering the power of the Nintendo DS in making Okamiden, the creator thought of making a third Okami game for one of the more recent Nintendo systems, either 3DS or Wii U.
That credit roll they cut is so cathartic it made me tear up. It's really a shame, even with the higher resolutions the ps3 port just isn't complete without it.
This is like the second time I seen Akuma's Raging Demon used in another game. The first time I seen it was in Megaman Battle Network 4 I believe, when you're at the amusement park, and these 2 thugs was trying to overthrow an old granny (who was a mafia boss?). She just laughed, everything with black, rapid punches can be heard, and it goes back showing the 2 guys on the floor, but the KO effect of the raging demon is played in the background. What's with capcom and old ladies being able to use that move? I still love it though.

I've read quite a few comments about Yuri not pronouncing the Japanese names wrong. Stop acting pretentious. I'm sure if he did pronounce the names correctly, there would be some person who would get offended by not having "san" attached to the last name.
If I was ever in a coma, there is a list of special things that I think, if I heard them, would bring me out of it. This game is one of the things on that list.
Another possible reference to Capcom games: In the last wave of the 3rd Demon Gate Trial, the player has to fight 3 Nagi's. In Devil May Cry 1 and 2, there are optional missions where you have to fight 3 times the same boss simultaneously.
Did you know that in the English okami hd, the evil mist is a wall of dark purple that makes it dificult to taverse certain areas untill its cleared, but in the japanese hd remake, its a black fog that sits low to the ground, alowing you to see where you need to go more easily.
Since a lot of Clover's main peeps are now in Platinum Games and they kinda mostly work on Nintendo console games these days, I really wish Capcom would sell the rights to the Okami franchise to Nintendo so that Platinum could make a proper sequel. Okamiden was okay, but it was weird and not very satisfying...But it was not made by anyone who had anything to do with Clover/Platinum, so that isn't surprising.
Mordalon But a lot of their games have been for Nintendo platforms recently, especially their major ones. Plus Wii U or 3DS would be perfect for an Okami game. That's why I said Nintendo.

I've completed this game 5 times and never knew about the hidden picture of Kushi LOL. This game has so many small, surprising details in it. It's a work of art.
+Michelle Kavanaugh I'm about halfway through Okamiden, and honestly the DS is just too limiting of a system for it to live up to the original game. Okami on the Wii is one of my favorite games of all time, and though it's still really good Okamiden doesn't have the same adventurous feel or exciting combat because the DS is a weaker system. Plus, the plot feels a bit more cluttered and less interesting, though it's still good by most metrics.
It's a good game but it simply doesn't measure up as well. Lots more tedium in the dungeons and the grinding was pretty insane to get the ultimate weapons. Plus there's the weird retcons. Kurow was great but didn't save it from being kinda meh in hindsight.
Truly a masterpiece of gaming software. If there were ever a game that needed a proper sequel, this game is it. This game looked awesome on PS2, I can only imagine what a sequel would look like on today's modern hardware... It would be nice to see it given to someone like Kojima and his new studio, considering the impressive job that was done with DD in MGS: V... _'Okami'_ rules...

If there was ever a game that deserved a remaster, it's this one. Imagine this on the Wii-U, using the touch pad as the celestial brush. I don't even own a Wii-U but it seems like this would be the perfect use case for that controller.
I remember how difficult the last part of Orochi's fight was with Susano. The traction with the Wii remote was absolutely terrible, so I had to do it at least 5 times over.
The battle between sussano and yamada no orochi ended with sussano cutting off orochi’s tails and found in one of them kusanagi no tsurugi one of Japan’s imperial treasures which is also referenced in okami as a glaive you receive when defeating the ninetailed fox on oni island
There's one tiny detail I remember; it's roughly somewhere at the point where you're supposed to fight Orochi (I think?), when you have to "disguise" yourself as one if the imps by putting on a mask that resembles the ones they wear, the symbol you draw on your mask later appears in certain places in Sei-an city (it appears drawn on walls and the ground)... That's weird, I remember seeing my symbol and being really confused at first.
Great video! I do agree the pronunciations were a bit off, but I have heard much worse in the Japanese language classes I took, haha. Okami and Okamiden are amazing games; I'd love to see a video on Okamiden as well. While the second game never really captured the majesty and wonder of the first, I really felt it made the characters and world more relatable. In most ways I consider Okami superior, but I feel Okamiden did a couple things better than its predecessor even so. (Also the witch in Okamiden scared the heck out of me far more than any boss in Okami. It always struck me as strange.)
What else sucks about the Wii port is that the controls are absolute ass. Drawing straight lines never works, the brush tends to spaz out at random times (and no it's not my controller), drawing anything else only works about half the time, and that's a bit shite for a game that relies on the brush. The violent drum-beating motion required for each hit on an enemy is really tiring and hurts my wrist (important since I already hurt my wrist because of drawing). Plus with attacks, it only works if you hit it on a certain rhythm, and finding that rhythm while also dodging attacks, watching attack patterns, and looking for an opportunity to use the brush is really tiring.

I never had an issue with drawing in a straight line...you could press and hold a button (I forget which, I haven't played in a long time) and you would be guaranteed a straight line. I also had everything work 100% of the time, so I don't see the problem.
Did you know? Okami is an amazing game, and if you have not yet played it you should, cus if you don't you will regret it for the rest of your life until you do.
Why couldn't have you gotten +chuggaaconroy to do this DYKG epsiode? He was probably one of the best choices as he did an entire LP of the game and its DS sequel Okamiden, even going so far as to research all the mythology featured in both games.

Mmm, perhaps you're right... Some way into the game I realized something was off, and it just stayed that way, then it got worse. It made me sad. As for the comment's...err, aggression. The video just hit the part about the Wii version's ending being stripped out by Capcom when I started the comment. I remember being infuriated when I reached the end in anticipation for... well, then nothing happened. They deprived the original staff of any credit for what they put so much work into, and instead slapped a big capcom logo on.
I honestly just wish they'd hand over the IPs back to Platinum. Instead, they will never be touched again. Okami is my favourite game, and it deserved better that sitting in Capcom's closet.

Although minor, they also changed the sky in Mr and Mrs Cutter's home area. The original game's sky in that area was very hypnotic in the black labeled ps2 version. They changed it to a plane beight red sky since then. That, and the sensual sounding "Clover" at the begging was changed because of the change in companies lol.
I figured this as the entire Okami series, but I guess Okami itself is such a huge game you could do a series about it, pointing out things like the Japanese origins of the characters.
Here's another fact, though. After discovering the power of the Nintendo DS in making Okamiden, the creator thought of making a third Okami game for one of the more recent Nintendo systems, either 3DS or Wii U.

This is like the second time I seen Akuma's Raging Demon used in another game.
The first time I seen it was in Megaman Battle Network 4 I believe, when you're at the amusement park, and these 2 thugs was trying to overthrow an old granny (who was a mafia boss?). She just laughed, everything with black, rapid punches can be heard, and it goes back showing the 2 guys on the floor, but the KO effect of the raging demon is played in the background.
What's with capcom and old ladies being able to use that move? I still love it though.

Another possible reference to Capcom games: In the last wave of the 3rd Demon Gate Trial, the player has to fight 3 Nagi's. In Devil May Cry 1 and 2, there are optional missions where you have to fight 3 times the same boss simultaneously.

Did you know that in the English okami hd, the evil mist is a wall of dark purple that makes it dificult to taverse certain areas untill its cleared, but in the japanese hd remake, its a black fog that sits low to the ground, alowing you to see where you need to go more easily.
Since a lot of Clover's main peeps are now in Platinum Games and they kinda mostly work on Nintendo console games these days, I really wish Capcom would sell the rights to the Okami franchise to Nintendo so that Platinum could make a proper sequel. Okamiden was okay, but it was weird and not very satisfying...But it was not made by anyone who had anything to do with Clover/Platinum, so that isn't surprising.

+Michelle Kavanaugh I'm about halfway through Okamiden, and honestly the DS is just too limiting of a system for it to live up to the original game. Okami on the Wii is one of my favorite games of all time, and though it's still really good Okamiden doesn't have the same adventurous feel or exciting combat because the DS is a weaker system. Plus, the plot feels a bit more cluttered and less interesting, though it's still good by most metrics.

It's a good game but it simply doesn't measure up as well. Lots more tedium in the dungeons and the grinding was pretty insane to get the ultimate weapons. Plus there's the weird retcons. Kurow was great but didn't save it from being kinda meh in hindsight.
The hammer that was used to decrease Amaterasu's size had abilities to change size, but mainly was used to grow in most stories.

I remember how difficult the last part of Orochi's fight was with Susano. The traction with the Wii remote was absolutely terrible, so I had to do it at least 5 times over.

There's one tiny detail I remember; it's roughly somewhere at the point where you're supposed to fight Orochi (I think?), when you have to "disguise" yourself as one if the imps by putting on a mask that resembles the ones they wear, the symbol you draw on your mask later appears in certain places in Sei-an city (it appears drawn on walls and the ground)... That's weird, I remember seeing my symbol and being really confused at first.

Okami and Okamiden are amazing games; I'd love to see a video on Okamiden as well. While the second game never really captured the majesty and wonder of the first, I really felt it made the characters and world more relatable. In most ways I consider Okami superior, but I feel Okamiden did a couple things better than its predecessor even so. (Also the witch in Okamiden scared the heck out of me far more than any boss in Okami. It always struck me as strange.)
What else sucks about the Wii port is that the controls are absolute ass. Drawing straight lines never works, the brush tends to spaz out at random times (and no it's not my controller), drawing anything else only works about half the time, and that's a bit shite for a game that relies on the brush. The violent drum-beating motion required for each hit on an enemy is really tiring and hurts my wrist (important since I already hurt my wrist because of drawing). Plus with attacks, it only works if you hit it on a certain rhythm, and finding that rhythm while also dodging attacks, watching attack patterns, and looking for an opportunity to use the brush is really tiring.

I never had an issue with drawing in a straight line...you could press and hold a button (I forget which, I haven't played in a long time) and you would be guaranteed a straight line. I also had everything work 100% of the time, so I don't see the problem.
My favourite game ever. Played it on PS2 on launch, then on PS3 and again on PS4. I will never get tired of this game.
