    Probably, my biggest issue with the HD version is that it retains the draw distance/LOD settings from older versions so you see stuff pop up few meters away from you which becomes rather distracting.

    • @midknightfox17502
      @midknightfox17502 6 лет назад +12

      Klarden Hexadrive actually increased that load distance over the Ps2/Wii versions for the Ps3. It's still not far enough, I'll agree with you. But if you go back and play the SD games, it's noticibly better. I believe there's a video out there floating around that compares the load distance stuff too, if you are interested.

      Touch imo is the best control for a drawing mechanic in just about any game, mouse comes second, gyro third, and analog stick is fourth, IR sensor (like with what the Wii had) is fifth, d-pad/arrow keys is sixth. Of course when it comes to _aiming_ on the other hand, mouse and touch trade places.

      Daniel Guiterrez - I suppose, generally speaking on console. I haven't played a Switch at all so I can only go off of what he said in the video about the motion controls of the Switch not being as accurate, nor do I want to play in portable mode for touch options. Best version sounds like it would be the PC since you can draw with the mouse and get 4K. But I rarely play on PC, don't have new hardware anyway, so it's not exactly an option for me.

    • @toonpik7

    • @lostboy626
      @lostboy626 6 лет назад +8

      asxciie - I read this too, I'm glad they did, but the touchpad is a bit too small for me to draw accurately. Hmm... too bad the Wii U didn't get a port before it died out. I think the touchscreen would have been great and get similar performance to the PS3/Switch, plus still use the touchpad while playing on your TV.

  • @themriron2391
    @themriron2391 6 лет назад +9

    The PS2 version stacked against Wii is fascinating because this sort of celshading in tandem with lots of post-processing was simply allowing the PS2's bandwidth and fill rate strengths - one of its key advantages - to run wild, whereas the Wii simply does not have this sort of fillrate or *48GB/s* GPU bandwidth. Very interesting game.
    PS3 version is also fascinating because of the 4K claim, but I would argue it doesn't even matter since 4x MSAA at 1080p in any capacity is great and is difficult to distinguish from a game actually running at 3840x2160 downsampled anyway.

PS2 is ED/HDTV capable but not even 10% of it's library are compatible, but you can force it to more games using homebrew, but it's mostly 448i. And like i said before 480p is somewhat considered as HDTV because you need one to enable it after all. And in no moment he says the Wii is an HD Remaster, he clearly says it is just a port. Oh, almost forgot, HD starts at 540p or even lower as some PS3/360 games have show us.

    The PS3 version might still be the best. If you don't go for 4K, it still has top-tier image quality, it reads pressure sensitive input for the brush so you can adjust thickness on-the-go while drawing. It adds more fun to this quite crucial feature of the game. You can also use PS Move motion controllers. PS4 version and all recent ports lack all of these I believe. Correct me if I'm mistaken but I think Switch doesn't even have pressure-sensitive triggers, while with the Dual Shock 3 every single button was pressure-sensitive.

  • @AdvancePlays
    @AdvancePlays 6 лет назад +1

    Again, the "best" version is not simply the most graphically consistent. The touch-screen drawing adds +10 points to the Switch version's favour, where not having tiny imperceptible drops of 1 frame per second (lol) is like +1 point in the other consoles' favour. So basically the Xbox version is the worst because unlike the PS4, Switch, or PC, there isn't a fast and accurate option for the celestial brush.

  • @YayWalterSullivan
    @YayWalterSullivan 6 лет назад

    A bit odd that you forget to mention the touchscreen benefits of the Switch version in the summary, that's certainly something that could definitely be a selling point over the One X/PS4 Pro versions... I'd gladly take that over slightly sharper image quality, which you didn't neglect to point out as a selling point over the Switch version.

    I've been meaning to try this game for years and never purchased it for whatever reason and I recently found out that there's a physical copy of this on Switch in Japan that has English subtitles, so I imported it. After seeing this, I'm actually kind of glad I chose the Switch version. I already like the option of playing on the go, prefer physical to digital, and prefer carts to discs, however, after watching this, it seems the Switch version holds up very well to the other versions in the visuals and performance areas which makes me very satisfied.

    7:55 what’s very annoying about not being able to skip cutscenes is that this option WAS offered in the original PS2, but only in a New Game+ file! Why they did this we will never know.

    It's funny that your least favorite port is the Wii version, because that's how I experienced the game first and until the 4K ports was my favorite version. I still prefer the Wii motion controls to a controller so I'm interested to see how the Switch version holds up

    • @TheodorosOrfanidis

      J.R. Stevens I found the Wii controls infuriating at times. Shaking the Wiimote to attack was very inaccurate. That said, I managed to finish it on Wii and I'd love to give it another go on the Switch.

    I know I'm nitpicking but "Game Analysis" would be ゲーム分析 or just 分析 and "Digital Foundry" would be デジタルファウンドリー to be more natural. I think it's pretty much negligible though since I suspect only few Japanese guys are watching this channel but it caught my attention so... couldn't resist the urge to nitpick.
    P. S. I've heard so many times that the game is beautiful and well worth playing but I haven't got my hands on it. Now properly seen the gameplay probably for the first time and I decided that I have to play it. Thank you John.

    I think you are overstating the dialog as a con here, the only long unskippable bit of dialog is the first cut-scene and yes, it can feel long and annoying IF you have played Okami before and therfore know the story.If you haven't however, (and depending on who you are at least) you'll find it just fine if a bit lenghty as an introductory cut-scene

    For me the best way to play Okami was with the move on PS3. I played the PS2 version but the move made the experience the best I've ever had. Being able to use your brush as fast as Shiranui in the Nechku and Lechku battle blew my mind! I was actually sad to see almost no one talked about the move gameplay because I can no longer play without it :D
