  • What is not to love about Apple Pie Jam! You no longer need to wait to bake a pie, just open a jar of this and wallah! This jam is incredible! The tartness of the Granny Smith's gives it a nice tart bite while the rest of the jam is rich and sweet. LOVING this! So happy I took the plunge and made it. If you decide to do the same, comment below and let me know what YOU think of it!
    Recipe will be uploaded onto my website/blog. :)

      Was it suppossed to have added apple juice? Also can we add more spice to the recipe if we want or will that throw the whole recipe off and do you think adding a vanilla extract or other flavored extracts to jam recipes will mess up recipes or in this case would it mess this one up?

    I heard your comment in one of your videos regarding leaving the jars of food in the water bath canner for 5 minutes after the time is up. I have been canning for almost 50 years and I have never done that. I buy a new Ball Blue Book of canning every 3 or 4 years to keep up on the new things and I keep all the old ones. The oldest one that I have is 1989 and it says to remove the jars from the water bath canner immediately when time is up. That leaving them in the canner longer can over process them and destroy some of the nutrients. The first book that I found the instruction to leave the jars in the canner for 5 minutes is in 1998 so I guess that its been around for a while . I suppose they are worrying about the abrupt change in temperature causing a jar to break. I always set my jars on a terry towel away from drafts so I have never had a problem with jars breaking. I think that if you set a very hot jar on a cold hard surface such as ceramic tile or marble it could cause a jar to break. I love watching your canning videos and I'm going to try the apple pie jam and the carrot cake jam recipes. I'm, also going to try your Easy apple cinnamon rolls too.

    Hope everyone feels better soon. One year our family of 5 were all really sick and my mother in law came for Christmas. I doubled the butter in my banana bread , realized it as soon as it came out of the oven. Made the dog " get into it" so I had to throw it away! Lol! She kept talking about how bad the dogs smelled . We couldn't smell anything until about a week later, ajd boy did they! God Bless You and Yours

    I made this back in the and make about 4 batches before I got done. I cheated and used Apple Pie Spice that I had and believe that is what the recipe I found called for. I also cheated by putting the apples in the food processor and pulsing them. The family just loves it. I'm going to try the Carrot Cake Jam tomorrow while I'm off for a few last minute gifts. Have a Merry Christmas All!

    Thanks for a great recipe video. I wash and sterilize my jars in the oven because I don't like the dull film that the boiling water puts on the jars. In Canada (Ontario) we can still buy Certo in boxes and Dollar Tree even sells an off brand for $1. Super bargain !

    Nice job hun! Sorry to hear about your household members being sick right before Christmas. I must tell you that I haven't had a flu shot in over 18 - 20 years. What I had done since was take fish oil, multiple vitamin, vitamin's C & D everyday and have never had any problems. "Nature Made" is a good brand that you can find at your grocery. I buy what I need when they are B1G1F. There is always a grocery store (that's near me) that has this promo on this brand. Also, if you like cole-slaw, try adding a couple of cloves of garlic (fresh - minced) into the mix. This will also combat germs that can lead to illness : )

    • @heatherclark2623
      @heatherclark2623 4 года назад

      Hi Sydney, Yes! Can use just the lemon and apples (pectin naturally contained in both). Just bring your temp to 220 F. Can look up how to do a "gel test" (frozen spoons), but honestly, I never bother. Works great! Tastes amazing without it (less to buy & can avoid the often highly-processed commercial pectin). Have fun! 😁🍍🍓🍑🍒

    Hi, I heard about you from Bev over at HalfAcre. Here's a tip that might be useful for those canners out there who are reluctant to switch over to the Tattler lids. There is a great country store style catalog called Lehman's that I just discovered a few months ago. One of the ZILLIONS of cool things that they have is a bulk pack of lids for canning made in the old way that Ball and co used to do before they "improved" the recipe!! They come in packs of 200 and I believe they are made in the US. Don't quote me on that last one, but if you are a canner, it certainly is worth investigating. BTW, good price too, in my humble opinion............... :-)

    Having fun going through some of your older videos. I haven't made this jam in years, I should do a batch this year since the apples are so good right now. In these older videos you don't leave your canner open for 5 minutes after processing time is up. Or do you just not show that part? Looking forward to going through your videos and see if you do any jams with Pomona's. I think this jam would be a great candidate for that to try to reduce some of the sugar.

    Hello Heather thanks for the video. Did this turn out thick like jam or is it thin like apple butter?

    Sorry but you did you add 4 cups white sugar and 1 cup packed brown sugar but it looks like you added 5 cups white sugar and a dollop of molasses. Did you substitute the brown sugar with the white sugar and molasses?

      i did! i make my own homemade brown sugar. it is 1 cup sugar to 1 tbls molasses. 😁

      Did you know that you can not go to your website? I didn't know where else to look for your recipe's exact measurements.

    How do I keep my fruit from rising to the top when I make jam?? I just did a batch of plum and while it looks beautiful all the fruit pieces are at the top!

      R. Weidman push fruit down distribute it throughout with a head space gadget or wooden skewer or plastic knife like she did in the video...

    Can I use apples that comes in the can?

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader
      @TheKneadyHomesteader  5 лет назад

      If you cant use fresh you could use frozen. Canned apples have already been processed and wouldnt hold up to being cooked and processed again. They would be mush.
