Hi Steve. So sad the little boys died so young . Especially from a preventable accident as smoking in bed. The neighborhood is so beautiful, the trees, shrubs and plants are so colorful . Nice homes , lovely views. Lucky you live in the right place. Nice vlog. Deborah 🇨🇦
I'm Canadian and I enjoyed that video too. Whenever I hear a story like that, I start hearing Helmer Reenberg music in the back of my mind. (He's a RUclipsr who has tons of JFK videos. The really creepy music is often played on his JFK assassination stories.) I guess it's just me.
Another wonderful neighborhood tour! Acquanetta was a B-List movie star in the 40’s & 50’s, maybe that street is named for her? I remember when the Ace Hotel was a Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn. Life is about change, but it’s also important not to forget where we came from. ❤ Paul
Acquanetta would have loved to have been a B-List movie star! She had neither talent nor charisma. Her agent(s?) tried to pass her off as exotic - her real name was Mildred Davenport. She couldn't act - like at all. Amazing she ever made a dime in Hollywood.
Thank you for solving a mystery that I’ve tried to solve since Beverly, her grandmother and sons died so tragically. I loved watching I Married Joan when I was little in the 50’s, her comedy was super. When I was in junior high I was so sad when I saw on the news about Beverly. I visited Joan’s crypt at Holy Cross mausoleum and was surprised none of the family was with her. She’s with some pretty famous people though. Mario Lanza and his wife are a row or two below Joan, I can’t remember the others. Thanks again for solving the mystery for me. Rest in Peace, Joan, Beverly, Mrs. Davis and the boys.😢
Hi David, I’m glad that you visited Joan’s crypt too. It is kind of surprising that Beverly and her mom were not interred there with her. Beverly would’ve been closer to her sons who are just a mile away at hillside cemetery. I heard that Joanne left $1 million estate, so I’m sure she could’ve afforded it but I guess it was probably her last husband‘s decision. Since he lived in Palm Springs maybe he wanted her to be close so he could visit. I guess most families just don’t like to plan ahead for things like this. 🙁
Very calming video. Very nice area. That pathway was cool. The classic car was very cool!! Thanks for taking us along. Wish I was in that area now instead of 🥶🥶🥶
Wow! The world is small. My parents are buried there...close to Frank Sinatra. Now you made me cry. Thank You for the beautiful recording on such a spectacular day. All The Best😎
I adore this neighborhood, Steve! Palm Springs is truly an oasis. The beautiful shrubs and all the colors. My parents took our family there in the mid 60’s. It was enchanting and so unique. It’s hard to express exactly the feeling. It’s one of my favorite airports as a flight attendant. And… yes!! There was Aquanet hairspray!!!❤
Hi Denise, Palm Springs is my favorite airport too. That’s neat that you get to fly here. And I agree it’s a pretty unique place here in the desert. And surprisingly colorful. 😎👍
Tragic story regarding the actress and her family. Steve this video was superb! These are absolutely some of my favorite videos you create :) The landscaping is incredible! Really enjoy seeing the houses...also the addition of the music is great! Well done Steve thanks!
I love the scenery. The neighborhood! What a nice area. The history and events that happened there are so interesting! Love the bougainvillea too. Thank You for sharing it with us!💞
I was wondering the same thing as you in regards to the hairspray comment. Thought it right before you said it 🤯😂. I was like OMG! I'm digging the scenery around you.
Glad you have nice weather! Cold here only 22 degrees. Got three inches of snow yesterday. ❄️⛄️but a slight warmup on the way. How your eyes feel better. Sad story smoking in bed a no no! 😞have a good weekend! ❤
🫶 Thanks Steve, you always do such a stellar job! I too miss the bygone elegance of Palm Springs' 50 & 60' mid-century architecture ambiances. Thank goodness we still have your lovely recollections.
Love your walks this is our neighborhood and we love it also, We're keen to see your perspective on estate auctions if you haven't already filmed one. We've been receiving emails from an auctioneer, but haven't had the chance to attend one of the auctions yet.
I Love your walks! And Twin Palms is my favorite neighborhood. It's 22 degrees in Philadelphia today with 5 inches of snow. Can't wait to get back to Palm Springs!
Steve... all of your viewers really enjoy your morning walks. At least you do not need a snow shovel and ski parka coat. Have a nice day. I will be watching football today. The games are on the snowy north east of the country. Until tomorrow...
I love these walks! Such interesting homes. Could you walk by Bob Hope’s house sometime? I saw a picture online and it’s so unusual. I wonder if it still looks the same. It makes me think of a spaceship. Let us know if you already have. Maybe I missed it. Thanks Steve! 😊
Hi Peggy, Bob Hope on three homes are in Palm Springs. The one that looks like the spaceship is in a guard gated community that is not open to the public. So unfortunately I can’t visit and film it. 🙁 I do plan to visit his other two homes in the near future. Thanks 😎👍
Thanks Steve, see you next stroll. Loved looking at the houses. They are all so pretty. I live in New England so palm springs to me looks like walking on another planet.
Hi Steve, I also remember watching reruns of "I Married Joan" when I was younger. They were shown on PBS here in PA. I had read several years ago that Joan Davis did not get along with her mother, but that's another story. Thanks for posting the video. I enjoy your channel.
Great video Steve! Twin Palms is my stomping grounds of choice when I come to PS. Stay at Caliente Tropics or The Saguaro, walk to Koffi or Elmer's every morning, The quietness and lack of wind are very nice! There's another historic condo complex down there called Royal Hawaiian, you might want to look it up and check it out!
Hi Corey, thanks for the reminder about that historic condo development. I know there was someone famous who live there back in the day but I can’t remember who it was right now. I have found it in the past but I don’t think I’ve shown it on this channel. I will definitely walk in the neighborhood at some point in the future. 😎👍
Steve thanks for sharing. Palm Springs looks simply beautiful. I need to put this place on my bucket list. Weather here has been 1,3,5,22,27, 16, and today 20. 🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬🌬
Hi! Thanks for the video. My understanding is the “new” paint palette and sign are returning to the original design. The sign is a reproduction of the original sign and they are restoring the lobby to the original design.
Hi Ryan, the poster in the lobby did look like an original illustration. And that type face is actually pretty cool and mid century. Maybe it’s just the color on the side of the building that they painted it. It blends in it doesn’t stand out at all like the old sign dead. Maybe they will play with different colors until they get some thing that pops out. The flooring in the lobby looks very Mediterranean and not at all mid-century modern. Back in the 1960s all the flooring was Terrazzo. Thanks 😎👍
It's really fun to be transported from a cool showery day in NorCal to a bright sunny neighborhood in Palm Springs! Of course we'll have our bright hot sunny days when the weather will suddenly turn on a dime!🌞 But in the meantime, thanks for taking us with you Steve!
Hi Thomas, you are not alone. Every year people from around the country watch the rose parade on January 1st and end up moving to southern California because of our beautiful weather! 😎👍
tragic ending for Beverly Wills and her family 🙏 love your neighbourhood walks I admire those gorgeous mid century bungalows, Butterfly ones are a favourite of mine
Really enjoyed this video. I hope you will do more walks in Palm Springs. The way I found your channel originally was one of your walking videos. Thank you!!!
It wish it was warm here its like three degrees with windchill twenty below zero and I have about seven inches of snow ❄️. Very beautiful scenery thanks for the vlog Steve..I remember her but I didn't know that she passed away that way..that is just horrible my grandmother on my mom's side of the family passed away in seventy four from a house fire.
Aquanet Hairspray, introduced in the 50's, is still being sold. The company has changed hands several times but the name hasn't. Beautiful tall palms, really lovely. I love the architecture. The thing that bother's me is seeing lawns with grass in the desert but perhaps Palm Springs is on top of a huge aquifer and has no water shortage concerns. Thanks for the tour.
Hi Andy, that’s fun to know that it’s still being sold. My mom and grandmother used it the whole time I was growing up. I agree with you about the grass. For some reason even here in the desert people prefer to have grass. I’ve always prefer a desert landscaping. We do have an aquifer under the desert, but we still try to conserve water here. 😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca I live in San Francisco. Over the years, we've had many drought years and were encouraged to conserve. The last drought, there were fines imposed for overuse. Many folks but not all have removed there grass yards and planted drought tolerant plants. I lived in Phoenix years ago and some folks had grass, It's a waste of a diminishing resource, water, just so reckless and selfish. Well t'll stop and get off my soapbox. I do enjoy seeing Palm Springs and your walks.
Great video Steve. I have to tell you that I would love to come to Palm Springs and visit the city. Your videos are very enticing. It’s a lovely city. I love the desert.. although I’ll be 72 in June and I traveling days they’re not over but you know when you have certain health issues that you have to be careful about. But as I said one day, if I get my chance to go back to California, I’m gonna come down to Palm Springs. I won’t bug you don’t worry about it. Take care.
Morning Steve oh my goodness it's 13 degrees here in Michigan anything above 35 would be amazing but the snow is so beautiful. I love seeing where you live it's beautiful. The stone walls with the patterns in them are amazing what are those called if you know?? thank you love to you both. Love the architecture Mid Centery Modern Just stunning-
Hi Melissa, there is a name for those mid century modern brick walls but I can’t remember right now what they’re called. Thanks and try to keep warm! 😎👍
Really nice video Steve. It's a good one to kick off Modernism Week! I think I missed that nice day, when you were filming! LOL. Batten down the hatches for the storm coming this weekend.
Was seven in 1963 too! My cousins lived at the Dream Homes neighborhood 😳he would called it the Dumps, because people would throw their by there 😬that a 1957 Cadillac, 60Special (introduced in 1938) 🎉
I like these walk around vids. Back in the late 1980s I'd go to Palm Springs to visit with friends, I stayed at the Hyatt Hotel quite a few times. Have been out there in a long time. If possible could you sometime do a walk around the Hyatt? Thanks
Hi Presley, I already did. My brother stays there when he visits and I did a walk around the hotel in his room about a year and a half ago. Just scroll back through my older videos and you can find it and watch it. Thanks 👍
Hi Syreeta, yes I will see what I can do about sending some sunshine your way. Although it’s been raining here for the last few days and it’s supposed to rain even more tomorrow! 😲
VERY nice video, Steve! I remember thinking that Beverly’s house HAD to have been destroyed completely by the fire, but that wasn’t the case. I also didn’t realize that there were cremation niches (or yours, specifically!) close to Beverly & Nina Davis’ (the grandmother’s) graves! I guess I was so fixated on finding Beverly’s grave for my video on her story, that I didn’t even walk in that direction. I liked how you focused on the family part of the tragedy, which hasn’t really been touched on that heavily in other videos on the subject. I also enjoyed the home tour! How much do you think the average home price is in that neighborhood? Hey! Remember my video on actress “Acquanetta”? I’ve also been to that Koffi before! I remember they asked me my name for the order, and the barista wrote “Kheri” on my cup! I wanted to ask her if I looked like I spelled my name that way! 🤣
Hi Kheri, lol now that’s a unique spelling! 😳 I wonder how she came up with that? And OMG I forgot about your Aquanetta video lol! So many interesting names and interesting ways to spell them! 😆 I think the average price for homes in the neighborhood is probably $1 million! Hopefully the next time you come back to Palm Springs we can do another video together! 👍
Love Joan Davis in Harem Gorl and Hold That Ghost! I is very tragic It's a shame the family isn't all in one resting place Si Wills is also buried in California
Henry kissinger had a home in twin palms on aquanetta circle my friend now owns this home, also Debbie Reynolds owned a place on LA Jolla and Camino Real.
It's nice to see all the mid century houses. People love to demolish older homes and build new. We are at 1° with the wind chill. Your current weather is our early summer! Peace...
Lol temperatures really are relative aren’t they? And we are lucky here in Palm Springs that people love mid-century modern homes. They are so valued and valuable I don’t think anyone would ever try to tear one of them down. 😎👍
Ah yes, I asked where are the sidewalks? Thank you Steve ❤ Maybe the people who live there are "older" and I dunno, lots of older people wear beige and start painting their houses beige too? Hmm, I prefer colors ❤ Could I play hopscotch on the groovy round walkways? 😅 Oh the car ❤, love it! Due to the climate there, hardly rust on cars, I bet. ❤
Thanks for asking that question about the sidewalks Ingrid. It made me think. Back in the day when Palm Springs was founded and first became popular it was really just a weekend resort so they probably thought sidewalks would be unnecessary. back then nobody walked anywhere. Especially in the very hot summer months lol!
That’s actually a very popular question Tishy. Unfortunately most of the mid century modern homes have very bad insulation lol! Most of them don’t have attics, so it could be a big problem when people decide to live in these homes you’re around. Most of them we’re just meant to be we can homes in the winter. And our winters are usually pretty mild. 😎👍
I feel the same way Steve, when historic places are updated to look modern. I always feel sad and that just a little bit of history is taken away. I suppose it’s in the name of progress.
I really enjoy these neighborhood tour videos. Thanks for taking us along.
Glad you like them Todd! 😎👍

Hi Amy, yes that beautiful day was just a tease lol. I am enjoying the rain today though. As long as it doesn’t stay around too long that is! 😎👍
Great tour, thanks your very laid back I enjoy that about your videos.
Thanks James 😎👍
Nice walk around Palm Springs. I enjoyed seeing all the houses. I am curious as to what the average house sells for.
I don’t know what the average house price is, but I think these all start at around $1 million in this particular neighborhood.
To an Australian eye Palm Springs is so unique , it reminds me of the Flintstones homes , and the weather is so appealing , no wonder you live there 😀
I agree Jo, it is pretty unique. We love it, but we also love Australia. 😎👍
Was seven in 1963 too! My cousins lived at the Dream Homes neighborhood 😳he would called it the Dumps, because people would throw their by there 😬that a 1957 Cadillac, 60Special (introduced in 1938) 🎉
Thanks for sharing that Frank 👍
I like these walk around vids. Back in the late 1980s I'd go to Palm Springs to visit with friends, I stayed at the Hyatt Hotel quite a few times. Have been out there in a long time. If possible could you sometime do a walk around the Hyatt? Thanks
Hi Presley, I already did. My brother stays there when he visits and I did a walk around the hotel in his room about a year and a half ago. Just scroll back through my older videos and you can find it and watch it. Thanks 👍
Hey Steve I enjoyed your walks around Palm springs and could you send some of that nice my way, we got snow and cold temperatures.
@@steveinpalmspringsca Absolutely! I look forward to it!
The house with the green door and the weird columns reminds me of a Howard Johnson. Don’t know why but it reminds of my childhood.
👍
This makes me want to visit Palm Springs. We moved to Northern California two years ago and it’s colder up here than Southern California. 🥶😉
N. Cal is really nice, but definitely too cold for me. Lol, I'm freezing in Palm Springs right now! :-)
Hi Terry, wow, I didn’t know that Henry Kissinger ever lived here! Thanks for letting us know! 👍
I have never been to california but it does look really nice there.
It really is Christopher 😎👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca Hi Steve, yep I guess that's how it was and is. Luv your videos and your voice. It's very calming. Chat with you soon again 😀
Loving these walks . It might be a silly question but what type of insulation do the homes have in the ceilings . Especially the flat roofs .
It blends Steve.
I’m watching this at 7.40 am, Alice Springs Australia 🇦🇺 and it’s 38 degrees Celsius already
Omg how funny. We will get there too, but not until your winter lol. Thanks for sharing that John. 😎👍
Thank you for this tour. Is your grandparents house still standing?
Yes, it is. Unfortunately the current owners have let it go and it isn’t as beautiful as it used to be. 🙁
Have you shown it in any of your videos? I absolutely love Palm Springs. It is so different from MD where I am.
Aquanetta !!! I love it.😂
😎👍
I feel the same way Steve, when historic places are updated to look modern. I always feel sad and that just a little bit of history is taken away. I suppose it’s in the name of progress.
Sad but true Ron 🙁
