What a great time 1992 was?!! There were so many fighting games coming all over the place, it was hard not to be overwhelmed by it all. A.O.F. was clearly a niche of a series...
I played AOF when it came out in arcades, it was inferior to SF2 but people still played it, I swear that the visual spectacle and the music compensated for the lower quality gameplay
and for damn sure AOF set a whole new bar introducing super moves. i was always a hardcore SF2 fan but i had a special respect for this game and concept.
The old SNK staff used to work for Capcom, and were responsible for the first Street Fighter game, the really bad one... They had to tone down a lot of stuff in the games, were pissed about it and joined SNK to make fighting games without interference. This is what happens when the designers do their job without interference: they deliver a game with a action movie worthy plot and a cliffhanger at the end... Too bad the programmers of the game were not as great as the character creators, cause this shit is clunky as hell...
Takashi Nishiyama worked on Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, King of Fighters, and he founded the company Dimps that developed Street Fighter 4 If anyone can be called the father of fighting games it's him. He's the one who came up with the "press up to jump" control scheme, starting with Kung Fu Master from 1984
01:14 When Ryo would kick his shoes off like that you KNEW sh!t was about to go down. That was a running joke between me and my friends back in the day. "Hey... who drank the last Hi-C pack?!?" (kicks off flip flops) *fwoop* *fwoop*
This game is still very impressive 20 years after, sounds , musics, sprite size, color design. I think time developement given by SNK manager to his team was too short to offer a polished game as it should deserve.
Explains alot cause the Fatal Fury games destroy this and that's a shame because all this game needes was to control better and be tighter with the movement.
Wow, another game I loved remembering. My brother played that one in a Wal-Mart during shopping many years ago and did become pretty good. I remember that he managed to finish it around between 2-4 times. It was a pretty challenging game.
The Art of Fighting series are one of the greatest fighting game series of all time. I personally however never could really master it, but it was always awesome to see the pros such as yourself play it.
Man, this guy's *good*. Knows exactly what to dish out and when. (Especially the jumpkicks... never knew they were so effective!) I remember playing this on SNES... took me like 12 attempts to beat Mr. Karate. And he gets a double perfect. Amazing. To think that anyone would care enough about this game to get this good at it. Truly an eye-opener, RUclips is.
@@filosofoneysarrandoanitta341 In 2, it was revealed Mr. Big kidnapped her to blackmail Takuma into staying in the crime syndicate. They didn't count on Ryo and Robert showing up.
Esse jogo é impressionante, lembro que, quando eu era criança e vi esse jogo no fliperama ficava impressionado com os personagens grandes e gráficos perfeitos.
Technically, the welcome fan response to Ryo's secret appearance as hidden boss in Fatal Fury Special in a Dream match that led SNK to make the actual King of Fighters game. But like Fatal Fury, the subtitle for AOF 2 is King of the Fighters. Ryo is the first KOF champion, then Terry, then Kyo, then K', then Ash, next ???
AOF, FATAL FURY, GAROU, SAMURAI SHODOWN, SFII, SFIII, HOKUTO NO KEN, DBZ, STRIDER, SHINOBI & SUPER MARIO were my jams back in the day, and still are! I'm 42 and still play these games on my SNES POCKET S-30, my DREAMCAST PORTIBLE(RETROID POCKET 2) and Raspberry Pi SNES mini and Genesis mini. Good times!
Pulling off the Super Death Blow fireball move against the CPU is just very satisfying once it connects as it drains almost all the CPU's health bar and giving up the upper hand in the game.
I feel the same, back then it was a really a sight to see in action. Even though it could still be polished more gameplay wise, it is still very playable. Check out the recent AOF1 Mikaido tournament on youtube.

Bought the collection on the ps4. After I beat King a trophy pop up and said "Sorry about your shirt" hahahaha.
Art of fighting is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING
This was SNK's answer to Street Fighter II...
Not Fatal Fury.
Fatal Fury was already in development when Street Fighter II came out.
Now that I think about it, this game would make a great action movie.
Esse jogo é impressionante, lembro que, quando eu era criança e vi esse jogo no fliperama ficava impressionado com os personagens grandes e gráficos perfeitos.
Take me back to a 90's Arcade!
Aww man wow this game brings back memories ❤❤
Every time I see King from AOF...reminds me of Marcy D'Arcy from the TV show, Married with Children.
She is based off of a movie character.
King is based on Muay Thai champion and 1980s actress Saskia Van Rijswijk
Ryo n Ryu tag team will be da art of street fighting
Lol. They would.
Goten Huggins
this game painted a really unrealistic image of what a "Karate Gym" is like. Especially for kids with overactive imaginations like me.

The guys at SNK must've been fans of Steven Seagal and Terry Silver from Karate Kid 3. The man ponytail sure was in fashion back then!
When I hear the name 'King', I expect a large wrestler in a jaguar mask...ah well. Thanks for giving me the memories again!
I know this comment is 12 years old but I might as well answer.
You were going to wait for two more years until that King came out.
A superior show of skill & having King "pop out" was a nice bonus! Great job!
This stood out compared to SNK's other SF clones when it first hit the arcades
I like art of fighting but John is like forgettable Guile imitation
Yes sure!
The whole game was a Street Fighter imitation.
More like a Heidern prototype...
Rolento and Eagle mix.
Nice Longplay, you make this classic look easy!
I heard king of Fighters 97 announcer at the beginning of the fight
Also after beating John.
This game isn't as good as Bruce Lee's arcade smash hit, Art of Fighting Without Fighting. Best game ever.
wafflcoptr lol
I used to play this as a teenager and I still do now! and im 40 lol I have it on pc (mame) and I bought the anthology on ps2 :D
the anthology is fucking the best and i was the same played this at the arcade while everyone was lining up to play SF2 and MK

Is it just me or does Mr. Big's stage sound like Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal?
yeah some japanese get there ideas from the western world.
You outta listen to the SNES version.

You know the fact of the matter is, king of fighters was 25 years in the making. But now, there is nothing that SNK do, and that was king of fighters 15.
The move that John did at 10:50, looks like KOF Heidern´s neck rolling, that might have inspired the making of Heidern, in my opinion
Yeah right, there is so much history made with and because of this game its a shame people don't know, and looks like you don't either.
oh fun fun fun good line robert&ryu art of fihgting👋👏👍
I remember when that ending really was a cliffhanger.
Dang, I'm old xD

I hated fighting mickey, mr big and mr karate they were hard to beat i always lose by them ughh!
John Crawley's stage kinda reminds me of Guile's Street Fighter 2 stage.
Kinda?
this is not the Art of fighting i played wtf
Its funny how the music fighting Mr. Big sounds like smooth criminal :)
It sounds a bit like dangerous from Michael Jackson.

The one thing i loved about this game was the sprites were large as shit..
Okay, we saw Ryo, Todo, Jack, Lee, King, Micky, John, Mr. Big, and Mr. Karate, but where was Art?
Why does this look so easy now?I remember it was really difficult in the arcades!I could barely get past the second dude.

Who would win ryo or akuma.

Yes yes there are many epic ironic nods in this game!
