Lyrics:
The guilty undertaker sighs
The lonesome organ grinder cries
The silver saxophones say I should refuse you
The cracked bells and washed-out horns
Blow into my face with scorn, but it’s
Not that way, I wasn’t born to lose you
I want you
I want you
I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
The drunken politician leaps
Upon the street where mothers weep
And the saviors who are fast asleep, they wait for you
And I wait for them to interrupt
Me drinkin’ from my broken cup
And ask me to open up the gate for you
I want you
I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
How all my fathers, they’ve gone down
True love they’ve been without it
But all their daughters put me down
’Cause I don’t think about it
Well, I return to the Queen of Spades
And talk with my chambermaid
She knows that I’m not afraid to look at her
She is good to me and there’s
Nothing she doesn’t see
She knows where I’d like to be but it doesn’t
Matter
I want you
I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
Now your dancing child with his Chinese suit he
Spoke to me, I took his flute
No, I wasn’t very cute to him, was I?
But I did it, because he lied and
Because he took you for a ride
And because time was on his side and
Because I
Want you
I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you

Who is listening this in 2024?
Me and I was listening to it way back then!
Uma música extremamente conhecida no Braisl em versão em português. Não sabia que era do Bob.
Moi ,moi et encore moi.

I'm 70 and can't even find the words! LOVE Bob Dylan. Can't get enough. 🤗
😀
Me too, as well as my 42 year old son
Blonde On Blonde, Pet Sounds and Revolver. 1966, the best year in music history.
Good call.
I think you're bloody right there mate
I just said that above! Absolutely correct.
Thank you LSD!
It took years to appreciate Petsounds for me. Revolver OMG!
My husband did the best Bob Dylan covers. He died in March 2020. This song reminds of him.💔
So sorry to hear that
Sorry m’am.
Sorry for your loss. I love Bob Dylan's music.
✌❤ my college BF died after just 3 months of meeting each other & dating... listening to Dylan's B-on-B constantly late into the night, especially this song. 💔
Are they uploaded anywhere? If not, if you could upload them, I'd love to hear em. I'm sure others would too.
Who writes songs like this at 24 years old. I carried the BLOND ON BLOND album every where i went to in the summer of 1966.
He gets old, like all of us, but his songs stay forever young.
HA I GET IT
Dylan´s voice brings me a peace in my soul, pure feelings
May God keep him in a good place and may he give you strength, love and lots of love for your husband's memories.
his new song title!
I see what you did there...
I used to listen to this song while riding with my dad in his car back in the 70s. One of my all time favorite songs. My dad is 77 and as soon as this plague lifts, I have to get him and take him out for a drive and put this on.
Pick me up hitchhiking, so I can hear it too!
God bless and here's hoping - at least we have music and memories during this strange, terrible time
💚💚
Donnt forget to do it Rob! Good luck to everybody!
Cool to the highest!
My dad LOVED bob dylan, he died April 19th. Now I can't stop listening to Bob Dylan. Wish you were here daddy.
What kind of a blasphemous handle is that.......have you no shame??????

The Greatest Artist EVER!
It's been too long, Bob. So glad to be with you again. Timeless.
Bob Dylan the great and giant Universal Artist.
Long Life to Him.
this album is a complete timeless masterpiece
is it in the Smithsonian? should be.
Qué no entiendo . Inglés.cońo
Absolutely, "you know I always say that you agree!" , - 'The word' or response "Absolutely' reminds me of absolutely Sweet Marie" a song( from the same album ) which ( I believe only a man who has been stood up by a woman ) can really relate to! The album is a complete masterpiece - you're so right.
Who else could write a line like:
"The cracked bells and washed out horns,
blow into my face with scorn,
but it's not that way, I wasn't born,
to lose you. "
Connor Oberst ❤
Look up the song Everything must belong somewhere by Bright Eyes. You won't be Disappointed. Connor Oberst has been compared to Dylan before.
Bob Dylan, simply the greatest composer ever.
And a close second would be Leonard Cohen, a Canadian.
Prince too.
@@lavidadida I don't worship celebrities. I just admire Bob Dylan's songwriting and poetry.
@@dwaynewladyka577 I understand. I guess I consider myself a fan too, but I know we're all only human. He is a great songwriter and composer of course.
Best writer ever, my fav artist ever. Absolutely not the best composer ever... not even close. Mozart, Pink Floyd, Bowie, Steely Dan. Plenty of people better at composing.
I was in radio for half a century. Hosted a nationally syndicated Beatles program for 17 of those many years. Played thousands of recordings during that time. I always considered this song to be an absolute classic masterpiece. One of the very best. Ever
I agree...I'm a Beatles fanatic, but this song in particular by Bob Dylan has moved me like no other song by an American artist...my own visceral reaction in my gut tells me this is something special...have a great summer!
There'll never be another Dylan poet, jester, genius, shakespeare with a guitar rock icon
Hello Dear, how’re you doing today?
it’s nice meeting you on here

For me, this is Dylan's best song. I was 14 when I heard this song in another part of the world, namely Turkey. It struck me and I felt a bundle of feelings I can't describe whenever I listen. I am 61 now I never lost these feelings. Now that I checked the lyrics and interpretations on "song facts" I can understand better the greatness of this song. Another of my all-time fav is "Simple Twist of Fate." Best words ever written in the whole world of lyrics !!
Turks interestingly have a relationship with ‘One More Cup of Coffee’. hear it commonly
Dylan claims his great grandmother was from İstanbul with the last name Kyrgyz
@@wdpk837 the reason may be that ‘One More Cup of Coffee’ was covered by a famous singer named Sertab Erener in the year 2000. Actually, before her, it was one of the favorites of my friends and mine as well. What I remember is we had B.D's "Greatest Hits" and after that jumped to "Desire." Most of the Turks knew him by those two LPs at the time. Other works were not really available for the masses. I first listened to "Blood on the Tracks" so many years later...Yes, I heard about his grandmother's origin and it's an honor to be related in some way. .
I agree.
Have you read the story of how it was produced? Very interesting. Dylan used a really good studio musician-guitarist named Charlie McCoy in Nashville, Tennessee, the home of country music, and the guitarist came up with the lovely guitar accompaniment for Dylan.
@@Michael-wx4iu Thank you, I will check Charlie McCoy for sure. I think Dylan has the eye to pick talented artists and take them and his music to a higher place.
brings back my youth.
The first Dylan Album for me and still one of the best. Love it.
We take it for granted I Want You is a beautiful Dylan song; however, consider how so much ahead of its time the song really is, because, after all, in 1966 many songs had Woop-Woop, Shopp-Shopp chorus to them. Then Dylan literally re-wrote how songs should be written. His concept evolved, through the decades, to the place popular music is where its at today. And it all points to Bob Dylan. Is he the best ever? His music influence is everywhere.
I cant describe my love to this song..i can listen to this song all day and never get tired pure perfection
Same
Its incredible. ❤
Very true..... it is the only song in the world to which i can listen non stop.
Any automatic replay function on youtube soon?
Another "I Want You" addict here. I'm not even the kind of person who plays their favorite music over and over. EXCEPT for Dylan. I could listen to any given song in my Dylan playlist daily and never get sick of it. It's a phenomenon.
Same here .
58 summers since I first heard this and those cracked bells and washed out horns are still haunting me.
Une musique qui donne la joie de vivre, le sourire, la paix et l'envie de parcourir le monde... Bravo Bob Dylan pour cette musique emplie d'émotions !
I still have the original 45 of this that I bought in the summer of 1966. My favorite Dylan song.

Theses lyrics are still matchless.
My brother introduced me to Dylan with Blond on Blonde in 1975 when i was 12 years old. Have been a fan ever since. Lost my brother in 2016 and every Dylan song reminds me of him
I just realized I've been listening to this song for over 50 years. 1966 was my freshman year at college. It's unbelievable how it still has impact and relevance.

How lucky you Are... I M a French 39's and I M living à world I dont understand.. There's just music

I don't trust people who don't like Bob Dylan...
I wouldn't have put it that way; but, yeah, I' would have put it that way.
YOU MIGHT ASK "JOAN BAEZ" about Bob Dylan.....
Nor should you.
It's like they know nothing about music !
If I could say something half as cool as that, I would.
It's a shame that this song doesn't get the same attention as the rest of Bob's tracks because I personally feel that it's the one of the best that he has to offer. It's one of his tunes that leaned the least on political and topical points and simply allowed him to go his own way musically - and he really showed what he can do when he's operating purely from the heart.
He’s using his crooning voice. Like in ‘ Lay lady lay. Love it.
Listen "Tanto" By Skank ... A Brazilian Band who makes a version of this song. It's a classic here in Brazil... 🇧🇷❤️😍
This song is pure perfection! A true artist in his own right! I could listen to this song and Bob all day! Nettie in Vegas!🎶🎼
Huh? How do you mean, 'not the same attention'? As far as i know, it's commonly considered as one of his most famous classics...
Yes. A masterpiece
Even 56 years on I still need to hear some early Dyan, with his harmonica, the organ, the drum beat and his masterful calculus use of words!

No memories of 60s is complete without a D ylan song.He was the voice of our generation. My-my-my generation.
If only he had recorded two albums, Highway 61 and Blonde On Blonde, he would still be a legend.
I kinda wish he had only recorded those two albums. I'd rather not think about his 80s albums.

A brilliant piece of music a masterpiece on so many levels
I'm 62, I've ben listening to it since I was 16😊
The greatest poet /songwriter of all tlme
This is real folk-rock at 100%
Dylan was it - in the late 60's. We were all sitting in 3G Junior year class in winter, watching the slow heavy snowflakes against the building next door - wondering what was going on with the Vietnam "war", protests, music, our hair style, and dreaming about the weekend. This guy was the barameter of Vietnam, the 60's and social change...Big Time.
Listen to Country Pie and you get the message - warm Sonoma Summer, hippie friends, tweed...what a time. What a writer.
I consider it an honor to have lived at a time of social upheavle and civil unrest. The music and poetry that resulted can never be matched in it's originality and passion and at the forefront was this little man Robert Zimmerman who with his magical presence and performances shaped who we are today. Yeah, I like this song too.
Happy 78th B-day to one of the most inspirational singer and songwriters of all time

So beautiful indeed
yeah, I feel the same
It came to me to hear Bob Dylan sing this song just now, and when I got here, I cried, because I love this song so much. I cried because he was so young when he recorded this record, and so was I. I knew he would be touring, and when I looked beneath his picture, I could see the schedule of his tour. Bob Dylan and his awesome music, it's circulating in the air, in the ether, and across the universe, so exciting to know he is going on tour, even though, I will not be able to see him live. I am so thrilled for all of those who will catch him live, doing his magic, and bringing all timelines and generations together. A bouquet of your favorite flowers, to you, @BobDylan and to your bandmates, the same. The best of success and great receptions at all your venues while on tour. I am so happy to learn of this!

Hello Dear, how’re you doing today?
it’s nice meeting you on here
My wake-up alarm ❤
My absolute favorite Bob Dylan album : I learnt to play guitar and harmonica and could do this song pretty good - much to the amazement of my friends - Blonde on Blonde is hypnotic and carries me away to a place I've never been to before and when I finished it I'm still not quite sure of the journey I've experienced - it was the last of Bob's mystical albums : Bringing it all Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and completed by Blonde on Blonde - In my opinion it wasn't until Blood On the Tracks did he come back to the mesmerizing lyrics he is capable of. What a genius.
My favorite is still Highway 61, but I agree that it was a great run of albums. Like Van's Astral Weeks through St Dominic's and the Stones Jimmy Miller years.
This must be the most 'Dylan' song ever!
If I listened to this song every day for the rest of my life, I’d die a happy man.

I will never tire of hearing Bob Dylan
[Verse 1]
The guilty undertaker sighs
The lonesome organ grinder cries
The silver saxophones say I should refuse you
The cracked bells and washed-out horns
Blow into my face with scorn
But it’s not that way
I wasn’t born to lose you
[Chorus]
I want you, I want you
I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
[Verse 2]
The drunken politician leaps
Upon the street where mothers weep
And the saviors who are fast asleep, they wait for you
And I wait for them to interrupt
Me drinking from my broken cup
And ask me to
Open up the gate for you
[Chorus]
I want you, I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
[Bridge]
How my fathers, they’ve gone down
True love they’ve been without it
But all their daughters put me down
'Cause I don’t think about it
[Verse 3]
Well, I return to the Queen of Spades
And talk with my chambermaid
She knows that I’m not afraid to look at her
She is good to me
And there’s nothing she doesn’t see
She knows where I’d like to be
But it doesn’t matter
[Chorus]
I want you, I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
[Verse 4]
Now your dancing child with his Chinese suit
He spoke to me, I took his flute
No, I wasn’t very cute to him, was I?
But I did it, because he lied
And because he took you for a ride
Uh because time was on his side
And because I
[Chorus]
I want you, I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you

Dylan at his peak. His voice was perfect back then.
I feel like a lot of people just think Dylan did folk songs for a decade or two, then instantly turned into that 80s voice. I think it would be great if a lot more people knew his career, and why he's so exceptional, even to his peers.
