My parents introduced me to Bob Dylan in the early 1960s with protest songs like blowing in the wind. When I met my first true love in 1972 she had a compilation album of Dylan's greatest hits (on LP of course) and I put the needle down on Blowing in the Wind, but she told me to expand my horizons a bit, flip the album over and listen to this track - I still love you Moira 50 years later for broadening my young and naïve horizons - even though we are a million miles apart now

From his first folk alums until Nashville Skyline, Dylan now admits it was all magic talent, he has no idea why he was so gifted and has not been able to do it since. He wrote about 50 perfect songs during this period and this is one of them.
Bob still writes fantastic stuff these days, what he meant by that comment is that he can no longer just sorta write in a stream of consciousness type of way. Now he thinks about what he is going to put down like he did in the days of his early stuff because contrary to what you say his early stuff like freewheelin was not written in the “magical” way that Bob was describing in that comment
I've always loved Dylan's music and was lucky enough to see him in concert with The Band back in the 70's. I'm nearly 65 now and have been to more concerts than I can think of but that was my favorite of all time
