    How much weight does volunteer work hold? And what would you recommend for hours? Great vid btw!

      Thanks! With volunteer hours, like everything else, the more the better. However, GPA and PCE are more important. I’d say volunteer doing something you’re interested in, doesn’t even have to be medical. Most of my volunteer hours came from animal shelters because that’s something I’m very passionate about… It didn’t come up in my interview, but I did have a few hundred hours. I can’t really say how many you need, but personally, I would say 50 or more would be respectable. Just make sure it’s something you’re passionate about, you’re serving the community, and you can talk about why you chose to volunteer there.

    Would shadowing be acceptable? I’m in law enforcement right now, have been for 7 years. I am going for a BA in Health Sciences is that a good degree that will cover the educational aspect?

      Usually PCE experience should be paid experience in which you are responsible for some aspect of patient care

      Absolutely! Your hours working as an RN-BSN are very high quality PCE hours. Just make sure you have the necessary pre-recs

    I’m a current certified medical assistant (2 years of experience) planning to become a PA. I just enrolled to college to earn major degree of biology (it’s not a bachelor), I’m concerned if it’s not enough to meet the requirements for PA school.. what’s your opinion?

    • @BorisThePA
      @BorisThePA  8 месяцев назад +2

      Most PA schools do require that you have a bachelors degree. Since you’re so early in your process, look into direct entry programs! That way you can get your bachelors and your PA school knocked out in 5 to 6 years

      @@BorisThePA thanks for replying me back!!. Although I’m in that community college that only provides major degrees (2 years); I’m still have plenty of time to look into direct entry programs. Thanks for your honesty 🙏.

    I have a bachelor in sports management, but I am doing a scrub tech program right now and be done in October, I plan on doing 2 or 3 years of scrubbing to get the foundation etc after doing that go to Pa school and still be scrubbing . Is it possible for me to do that?

    • @BorisThePA
      @BorisThePA  Месяц назад

      I don’t think you need two or three years if your ultimate goal is PA. One year should be plenty as long as you have the prerequisites and GPA. As far as working while you are in school, it’s not advisable. PA school is extremely intense. Some of my classmates worked while they were in school but not much. You simply don’t have the time.

      If you have a competitive GPA, get all of your prerequisites done, and get plenty of high-quality patient care experience hours I don’t see why not!

    hello, I currently am in my fourth semester with a gpa of 3.28 with only two bad hiccups. i received an F and C in two classes ( Anthropology and General Education Life Long Learning) worth 3 credits each. i passed bio stats with a B and Chem with an A. Should i be too worried about acceptance in PA. I have been on a steady of path of nothing but As.

      p.s. i have not started my hours yet :(

    • @BorisThePA
      @BorisThePA  6 месяцев назад +1

      Definitely get some high quality PCE hours, but a 3.28 cumulative isn’t too bad. Could be higher so maybe consider taking some extra high level bio and chem classes to get that up. But not too bad overall. It doesn’t sound like the F was in a science course so that should not be a huge problem, just be ready to explain yourself because they might ask you in your interview. I got a D and jazz dance and they asked me about it, but it was more of a joke, and we just laughed about it during my interview.

      @@BorisThePAthank you for the response. i have plenty more semesters and classes to go through. i hope it’s enough to get the gpa way higher and yes i need to get to those hours asap. Once again, thank you for your time and response :)

    • @BorisThePA
      @BorisThePA  9 месяцев назад

      @@karand1746 really depends what you did. if you were responsible for some aspect of patient care and you were paid then that should count as PCE. but every school is different so definitely ask admissions at each school you apply to
