I wanted to thank you for this great and detailed video which had guide me through changing the valve cover gasket and spark plugs on my QX70. Your video was my main reference point along with the Service manual and I gotta say it didn’t disappoint! You covered 95% percent of the job and made this seemingly daunting job very straightforward. For the audience who would be doing this job in the future if you’re struggling with removing that orange electrical clamp on the driver side at the back of the engine the way I was able to successfully remove it was to use a metal trim remover tool and put it between the body and the orange clamp and push the clamp out. It pulled the whole assembly out without breaking anything. Another thing is that I would highly suggest labeling everything including all the hose and their mating and screws you remove to avoid mixing them up or forgetting to get a hose back at it’s place. Also I used permatex high tack gasket sealant and applied it in the groves of the valve cover for a bit of extra bonding between the gasket and cover to avoid dropping the gasket or tube seals in the engine during the installation and I would highly recommend it. I also cleaned my throttle body and MAF sensors during this job. In addition to the plenum gasket I also changed the throttle body gaskets since it was cheap and worth it. I also would like to sugesst buying a couple of extra valve cover screws in case you drop them into the engine bay and can’t get them out. Overall the process took 18 hours for me with me taking my time to ensure a perfect job and cleaning everything.
Thanks for watching and great suggestions. I decided not to go with permatex because with using OEM gaskets I had no issues with gaskets falling out of valve covers. Also, when it will be time to replace the gaskets again, you'll have to do a bit more work cleaning the engine and valve cover from permeates.
I'm about to do the same and replace injectors, coils and plugs. Thank God for RUclips and thank God for this dude! 🙏 Estimate 6-8K for that work. I'll become a certified mechanic before I pay that shit!

Just did this job myself. The driver side was such a pain in the butt compared to the passenger side. I took a different route on the driver side, going from the front of the engine towards to windshield through the wires. Nice video, very helpful!

@@NoName66426 damn that sucks, did you use torque wrench? or how did it happen? I know on my first Infiniti (2002) I used torque wrench and ended up breaking two bolts. I ended up just not fixing them and valve cover still held up without leaking oil lol
@@PZPal Yeah I bought a smaller torque wrench to do the job turns out it was not working properly it never clicked when I reached torque. great vid. I couldnt find anyone that wanted to do the work. I paid towing to 2 different places and they all said to sell the car because of my misfire and something about oil in the catalytic converter. I dont know anything about cars but used this vid to change all coils and sparkplugs and also a mild clean up of sludge. So far so good. Seemed easy, except i did strip one gasket cover bolt in the middle (left valve caover) and the thread is stuck inside. Im hoping the other 9 will hold it down. I may need to get a tool to remove the broken bolt thread
Nice, good job! Years ago I had older Infiniti and when I changed valve cover on that one, I stripped two bolts. I continued to monitor it and confirmed that oil was not leaking out of the cover even though two bolts were stripped. You can keep monitoring it and next time you have cover off or get close to it for other repairs you can fix the thread.
If you do need to remove the bolt for some reason, they sell these tools that will remove them. They are called external extractor sets. They work great.
Great video ❤ everything went well following your steps. The only problem I came across was making sure the gaskets were on 😅 I'll know when I start it up this week. Thank you.
Hey Nate, sorry for not responding sooner. The flat razor is called metal spudger. I used one from kit that contains bunch of other tools. Tough to say, I'd say read what RTV that you used says and go based on that. I used Honda Bond in a recent valve cover gasket job and that one said it takes 24 hours. With that been said, I personally think most liquid gaskets are good to go after 1-2 hours of applying.
Im curious did this help your issue with oil getting into your sparkplugs??? I recently got a misfire on mine and found out cylinder 2,3,4 spark plugs were drained in oil I changed them and changed my boots and now she runs like a champ but idk how long it will last I was doing my research and found it can also be the valve stem seal ? Hey man I’m just curious did you have any oil on spark plugs that you did this job? I found oil on one of my spark plugs . Do you think a replacing the valve cover gasket will resolve the issue?
Not following your question, you mean valve cover? On g37, you can just replace the gasket on valve cover. I think earlier versions of Infiniti required complete valve cover replacement.
@@trevinoemanuel you need to replace the spark plugs gasket. I'd also replace the valve cover gasket as well since you're there. No need to replace the valve covers.
@@trevinoemanuel I'd replace them if its time for replacement, not necessarily because of oil in it. I did mine when the car had about 120k-130k miles. Overall spark plugs are not expensive and since you'll be there, might as well do them.
I did it about year ago, possibly even longer. I think you meant p0300, if that's the case then yes. The issue was leaky tube seals (where spark plugs go), leaky seals cause spark plugs get soaked in oil and trigger various p03000 codes. So replacing tube seals may help. Its also possible that ignition coils are bad or the spark plugs themselves as well. Also keep in mind that from my experience, valve cover gaskets and tube seals tend to harden and leak after car has about 100k or more. All that again is just from my experience with Infinitis.
Just did this on my 08 G35. Very similar process. But with the new gasket I am still having it leak on the driver side, bolt closest to the oil fill plug/intake manifold. I did rtv on all the corners and followed the torque specs and order to torque them in. Passenger side is fine and dosent leak. Any ideas? Kinda scratching my head. Only idea I have is to order another gasket and maybe Nissan RTV instead of JB weld? Thank you
Interesting, perhaps the torque wrench was not accurate and might need more torque on that bolt? Or maybe RTV dried up and created some space between valve cover and engine? I didn't use any RTV on mine, but not sure if older models require it. Let me know when you figure out what was the problem
Main way to find out if they're leaking. You can see oil stains at the bottom parts of the valve covers. Also it's very common to see spark plugs filled with oil, which means spark plug seals are bad. Anytime you replace valve cover gaskets you need to replace spark plug seals as well (maybe they're called o-rings or rings, not sure of exact terminology for those). If you don't have any oil leaks in these areas then you don't need to replace the gaskets.
Tough to say but maybe you forgot to plug something back in? Probably look through this video and make sure you plug everything back in. Let me know how it goes and what was the issue when you find it.

That what happened to me 2 weeks ago that plastic piece for the hose broke and coolant leaked and my car overheated now I have misfire like you. Maybe the pressure of the engine when the coolant leaked cause more gaskets leaks
@@aceofadez It could be, but on mine, as far as I remember, the oil leak started in a middle or front spark plug opening, but the valve covers were still decent. I also heard that it is very common for valve cover gaskets to start leak when vehicle reaches about 100k miles.
I am confused on how I have much more codes than you but my g37 engine makes absolutely no noise only my transmission for now
what codes do you have?
@@PZPal haven’t checked it recently been meaning to buy the device you use looks fairly convenient
@@PZPal last time I’ve checked I got 22 codes haha main ones I care for are P0725 P0615 C1109 U1000 U0415 B2553 B2601 B260F (not sure what this one is B2604/2605) B26E1 C1729 B210C B2562 then told me OBDII Codes 0 (extremely sorry about that haha just new to this and from all 22 those are the ones that interested me because the snapon doesn’t give much description like yours at least the guy didn’t give me much just recorded the screen
@@PZPal sit tight hahaha
@@1kzooki wow that's crazy. My guess is you have one issue that triggers so many codes. You just have to figure what that one thing is lol
Is anyone in the Fort Worth area and know how to do this? I have cylinder 4 misfires thinking it was the spark plug. Went to change the spark plug and it had oil. Rough idle. Help!
Sounds like you'll definitely need to replace valve cover gaskets including the spark plug gaskets. You might also have a failed ignition coil.
Anyone know how to remove the thing at 14:57
I did it by just pushing it forward essentially away from the engine and it came off. It;s a slide on and off type of thing
Man I’m trying to do job right now and the wire harnesses are such a bitch
How did your replacement go? I’m thinking about doing it to my g37
@@jesuspreciado4741 it went fine, took longer than expected. Make sure you have decent pliers to release clamps on wire harness.
Make sure to have a flex or bendable socket adapter there are a few bolts in tough places
There are 11 on each side for valve cover
Also make sure to replace your PCV at the same time you do this. 50$ for two
PCV?

@@Us3r_404 you think that’s a necessary replacement on a 2014 Q50 with 80k on it?
I'm going to sell my G before this stuff even starts happening. Imagine doing all this work, or paying to do this, and now all the old hoses and wires start die-ing slowly after you wrestled them off to get to these pain in the but gaskets. It's a shame none of these auto makers aren't copy'ing what Toyota does. IV seen 200,000 mile Toyota engines no leaks, and never been worked on.
Thanks for watching. I'd have to disagree, at least from my experience. I've done valve cover gaskets on about 3-4 cars and never had issues with hoses or wires cracking or breaking. I don't recall dealing with Toyotas valve covers though, so maybe design there is a bit better. It took me two days of work where I was just taking my time, record everything on video, and I probably spent less than 2-3 hours each of those days. Hope I'll get to work on Toyota soon though to see what they're like to deal with. Thanks for your comment :)
Sheeeesh this seems like a lot 🥲 I’m not sure if I wanna attempt this or not lol
It’s a lot, but not really tough as long as you take your time 😌
