Incredible power, but to compete in the world tour you gotta push that power at the end of a tour de france stage after two weeks of racing. Would be interesting to see his fatigue resistance
Amazing effort for sure as he was on a live road as opposed to the TdF guys on a closed road so no corner cutting and I'm sure using a 5.8kg bike would have made a big phycological gain as well.
I rode with Jack as an amateur. Respect for his physical skills, but he'll never be a road pro. I've quite literally seen first time roadies with better bike handling skills. He loses so much time in every corner, is terrified of the peloton, etc. He gets dropped on the climbs because he's dead before he gets to them. Even I always finished ahead of him and i'm crap! Nice guy though, wish him the best.
Sepp Kuss was 50 seconds slower on the same terrain but he had also been dragging Jonas around for the 1400 km in the previous 1.5 weeks. What if Sepp made a single effort at this climb with no exertions coloring either side of it? what would that reveal?
This is what I was thinking, I was like surely these pros were not going to the bottom of the mountain and doing this for training, these were done during an actual race and then this guy just warming up and then doing the mountain is definitely very different than doing a lot of KM’s before getting to the mountain. I wouldn’t exactly call this "taking the KOM” I mean he looked toasted by just starting at the mountain and then finishing it.
But he did it in the cold temp, where the tires roll slower and the chain has more drag. And the air resistance is higher due to higher air density. Riding in the winter is hard my friend.
Impressive and amazing achievements, without a doubt! There are two problems in my opinion with this amazing rider: First, his measurement was carried out in conditions incompatible with the Tour de France. The other and more significant problem is the fact that he gets to ride this climb alone, without another few hundred kilometers beforehand and in the previous days several thousand kilometers on his legs that lead to extreme cumulative fatigue. I do believe that he has potential, and he needs to realize it, I wish him luck and I would love to see him sign with a professional team that will realize his potential.
