Such an absurd way of finding a new "King of Strava" when you're giving him an unfair advantage, and then being so wowed by the stats at the end. He might have been able to beat those times by himself, but can't give him credit with this approach. Interesting video - just redo without leadout and give him an Insta 360 or something instead of using a crew ahead.

Dunno about this, seems in bad taste, take a pro give them a leadout and a draft and then celebrate beating someone who has been a great friend to GCN and has a full-time job, this doesn't sit right with me at all.
Pro riders are ridiculous! I’ve just watched the Tour of Britain riders fly up my local climb, all were 1.30 faster than the previous KOM (held by a super fit amateur) whilst they were chatting.
@@phillyh34 Sleeping in a big bunch while you get a KOM is not a sacrifice. Sacrifice is under-funded but pro-level talent amateurs like me getting KOMs under my own steam.

This video is essentially a personal attack on feather. Essentially swapping him for another kom champ (who cycles full time) and using cheap tactics (such as drafting motor vehicles and lead outs) to ensure he is beaten. Seems a bit harsh after the service he has provided GCN. Appreciate this video was probably not done in malice but it does come across this way..
Drafting the camera motorbike isn't really right. That's the problem with Strava KOM's, you don't know the conditions other people had, whether someone was having assistance from drafting a camera motorbike or different weather.
Everything went to plan except the handshakes. Great to see Matt taking on these climbs and showing the class he has. I'd love to see him take on an iconic climb like Alp D'huez, with the support of a lead out team including Feather

literally just did the "hell climb", although it didn't come up on strava like that. The segment is called BW - Dundry - Highridge Road. Just did my PR which was almost exactly twice Matt's time. East Dundry is insane. Super pinchy and rough. Main factor is the narrow road which is used by farm vehicles. Blagdon is by far the hardest of the three. Steep before the village, steep through the village, steep out of the village, and then drags for nearly a km at 8% before pitching up a tiny bit before the end. Not the hardest Mendips climb but definitely up there.
You just need to give Andrew the same kind of assistance and see what happens to the KoM now. I know KOM’s in races are allowed. Does Andrew target climbs with a team? If not, just think how many he could amass with a strong crew!
I recall this being done... and one of the newer 'ex-pro' gcn guys sat in the wheels most of the segment and jumping Feather at the end. Haven't seen that guy since! 13:36
Pretty shitty of GCN to take kom off an amateur who probably fits riding round a 50 plus hour week working with a guy who is paid to ride a bike and has years of pro coaching and help behind him.

i feel somehow GCN should fo a mini documentary on the rise of strava. It has become so widely used - so much part of the culture i feel it should be documented with interview with its founders and stories from the early days of local amateurs hoovering up KOM - famous or infamous rivalries right up to today when you have Pogacar breaking KOMs during TDF...
In all fairness, Feather is an amateur with a regular job and a pro is a pro, just the amount of dedicated training Matt has went through is hard to beat for most mortals....
I watched Matt fly up Willunga Hill with Ritchie Porte a few years ago and win. Something no one else had been able to do for a few years. He can sure climb!
I love GCN, my dream ride is a coffee ride with the presenters. Getting a professional to to take KOMs from a man who has a 9 to 5 job, which is hugely important to society, democracy seemed to me like a churlish stunt and quiet anti sportsmanship. On a positive note ateazt the professional was norther. I would like to add 8 % is not a hill. It's zone 2 training.
I disagree with using lead outs for KOM's. Still a good effort but here in the US people use teams of lead out riders all the way to the top of a climb and take away a KOM from a cyclist that did it without any outside assistance. I've set a couple of personal records by using a strong tailwind lol. No way to make all elements of a climb equal for everybody.
I mean, thats why they are kinda silly. You could do one drafting, with a lead out, with a string tailwind. With your tyre pressures dialled perfectly for that section of road. After resting for a few days. etc etc. People are never competing on an even keel.
Hi Matt🙂. Every Factor road-bike made in last 2 years precautionarily cautions the rider against sitting on the top tube. High quality carbon is very thin and sensitive to crushing at that point. I would avoid it. Btw great performances, I didn't think you improved Feather's time by 24 seconds (thanks to the little help GCN offered you?), much in such a short climb. BTW, I bow before a newcomer's KOM! Many congratulations, Matt!
Shimano is losing their touch. Power meters suck, Di2 app sucks, can't update my wireless shifters without a $300 setup. Feels like they are riding on the tailcoats of their past engineers. I'm still on Shimano but have been considering SRAM for my next one
Highlighting the massive gap between talented amateur and the pros. But Matt is something else on the climbs. At 98 kg’s I wish I could climb at half his speed.
I would love this, as a young lad myself I can't possbily put much of a dent on the leaderboard competing with people twice my age with twice the experience
@@eleycki I'm sadly just into the 55-64 group but that needs split in half (55-59 and 60-64), I bet a 55 yo is(on average) much stronger than a 64 year old so not really fair at an age when sarcopenia is accelerating rapidy...(yes, I know there are 64 year olds who would whip my a$$ on a bike)

Here were I live in southeastern Norway a guy who was a pro road cyclist, Audun Fløtten, took 24 KOM's on gravel climbs, in ONE day in 2020!

Not gonna lie, there was an unpleasant undertone to this video.
Strava KOMs are unpleasant. I’m disliked in my local area because I’m so good and I took so many, upsetting a lot of people in 3 different clubs.
The 'over' tone was horrible as well. It was just extremely weird and unnecessary.
