I've been doing this on Windows 10 for 3 years by blocking Microsoft IPs and domains at the router level, with no downsides whatsoever. The argument about vulnerabilities is only valid if users are completely clueless. For those who know what they're doing and don't need a "babysitter" the ability to choose what and when to update, or even to refuse updates indefinitely, should always be an option. Additionally, there's a significant difference between servers and domestic systems. Servers certainly need security patches because of their exposed nature, but domestic systems typically do not require the same level of updates. Most home systems don't host services, and due to the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses, many ISPs use CGNAT, which prevents users from exposing services to the internet anyway. For Microsoft, educating users would mean empowering them to manage their own systems, and that translates to less control and fewer opportunities to enforce business models tied to forced updates and subscriptions. Then you will be very happy. If you have an old system that works well, updates only make it worse. I have some older systems were updates were completely off for years and they run incredibly well. No windows 11 BS or anything else. Simply a rock solid reliable machine. If it aint broke, don't fix it.
I would hate to think of a world run by old outdated computers that are online, like banks, hospitals, government etc. That would be scary and I think you would say the same if you had common sense.
I am curious if Windows 10 is EOL (End of Life)if the EULA (End User License Agreement) extortion is void and if Microsoft will continue absorbing your private information as telemetry and keep modifying your OS experience despite EOL?
I run a computer repair shop and back in the day I would always turn off automatic updates because in my experience, a client was more likely to experience an issue from a Windows update than an unpatched system. Unfortunately things have changed now. There are too many threats, too many new security vulnerabilities discovered on a daily/weekly basis to recommend turning off Windows updates anymore. And I absolutely do not recommend running Windows 7 or an unsupported OS unless it's completely and permanently disconnected from the internet. What I do recommend is upgrading to Windows 11 Professional so you can delay feature updates for 6 months.
Well Microsoft have got it all stitched up by the constant changing of the systems and frankly nothing anyone says is going to change how they dictate how anyone can use their current OS. We are just lambs on the sacrificial altar of greed.
What if you never do Windows updates? Basically you're me. The only updates I do are the security ones, I never do system updates. It ain't broke, so I don't fix it.
Normally better keep windows update on but some people keep it off 📴 some people have big problems some not l keep on but ask me before if want download updates sometimes wait one week or more time for see if all working properly
You can block Windows Update server IP addresses and urls via modem to stop automatically update and then if your modem supports the "whitelist" option on the next blacklist, whitelist Microsoft Update Catalog url, download link to stop receiving updates automatically without problems
@@sg.o7139Security updates can be hidden away inside other updates including browser updates. If you "only install security updates" then you haven't got all the security updates
In the Philippines I heard from the Technician he used Windows 7, because it supports his Gadgets to unlock the password of any not so old phone. Maybe the Gadget that he bought in their group are built with old software that cannot be install on win 8,9,10 & 11.
From 1703 to 1909, I could never get Windows Update to work. It always failed during the update. That was a few hard years with me, having to reinstall everything from scratch. I concider myself a power user, but just couldn't get around those issues, with any kind of suggested fixes (trust me, I tried them all). As I have a very complex setup with lots of software, it was a two day 16 hour job, to reinstall and change settings.
Back in the day, on my old windows 7 machine, it worked okay but then windows broke windows update so that windows update wouldn't work. (I used norton antivirus and that worked so I wasn't entirely without protection). I then had three years of flawless operation. it was beautiful. Then I needed to update windows to get am email client to work properly. So I had to manually find and download an update to update windows update to fix windows update so that windows update could update itself, and return to the normal state whereby windows update could update itself and break itself so that it could no longer update itself, which it did. ...and people wonder why I use computers so much but swear at them all the time.
I am non stop offline 24/7 I do not surf on laptop all my surfing is done on iPhone and iPad and I just had made upgrade to brand new 11 inch 1 TB M4 iPad Pro for surfing. I had not done it since windows 7 Pro to windows 10 Pro. I am sick of fixing my laptop when windows update has damaged it. I hate updates.
Since Windows is used by many businesses, government, and home users it is highly targeted by hackers. They will try to attack using software vulnerabilities that aren't patched
I blocked windows update in 2021 using the StopUpdates10. I reinstalled windows this year on another SSD. Now I can boot into the old and new windows. The old windows perform much, much better.
YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY USE ALL THESE OLD Windows. JUST KEEP THINGS IN THE BOX. Don’t go online, don’t install any new software on them. So keep them “Sterile”. This is how I am still using Win 7 flawlessly for Gaming and Home Studio and Home office admin work. Plan to do the same with Win 10. 😉
i haven't updated my Windows 10 in 4 years since i installed it and i don't have any problems of course i have Kaspersky and i don't care about security updates cause even those cause more issues then they fix and if you use your PC for normal stuff like gaming and general internet use you don't have to worry about security updates windows updates and all that crap 9 out of 10 times those will only break your system it's Microsoft after all now if you use the PC for banking and work stuff if you know what you are doing and have good firewall and Anti-virus you still don't need any Windows crap
0:13 thankfully Windows Server 2008 R2's Premium Assurance feature so, I use bypassESU to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Premium Assurance updates until January 13, 2026, so mine is perfectly fine
It's a bit like overclocking. You gain a few percentages of FPS, and wear down your hardware faster, as well as having stability issues. Back in the old days, when you could overclock a Celeron from 300MHz to 450MHz, that was when it was worth it.
What about our security from Microsoft with all of its spyware blatantly pushed upon us with co-pilot and recall?! Plus I've been using Windows 8.1 without updates for years and as long as you have good antivirus programs and cleaning programs, updates don't make any difference
Linux would make more sense than an unsupported Windows system, unless that Windows system is airgapped from the net, and in a secure environment. Since Linux is free and relatively easy to use, I think I'd use it, if it was that or an unsupported system. There is the virtual machine option, for legacy tasks..
You could, but i have so much software that needs windows i cant completely, use sandboxie run you browser in it and no virus get in, also run in user acc not admin when online and use commodo firewall i never had anything get past it. I don't use an antivirus unless i think i allowed something and a test run i remove it, and i upload unknown software to totalvirus website. Remember the route of a virus is your browser or free software or watching corn. Update ha i never update then mess things up mostly. Use a good back up data software Aomei free i got the paid was worth it and then make backup in several ways and devices then what's to worry.
@Eagleeye-i7g Virtual machines are good. I saw a video in which one bloke repeatedly tackled a scammer, allowing him to damage his "new computer", then he resumed using a fresh copy of his VM, with exactly the same desktop, icons and all, thus outraging the scammer. It is a pity that Wine is not up to it. There is a sluggish Linux project that is intended to be Windows friendly, but it's been going on for years, unfinished.
If I could never install feature updates then I wouldn't install feature updates. But unfortunately we live in a society where everybody holds your hand and Microsoft forces us to do this now.
By the time they turn the tap off - the bugs are already fixed. I have a a few windows 7 devices connected simply for RUclips and music to play on screens - not for actual office work. No updates. No challenges. Yes new software like new printers sometimes don’t even work.
@Britrec09 yeah I agree for work and sensitive data. on a computer with no data where the propose is to only play / stream video and music and has hit other data on it . . . I have no challenge with that.
I agree that Windows 10 will become increasingly vulnerable after October, but I don't think it will happen as fast as you are making it sound. If a user has Windows 10 behind a router with a firewall and current security software like Bitdefender or Avast, then the risk to the average user will be minimal, probably for a year or two. Eventually, software and hardware compatibility will be an issue, but not immediately. If users can get a couple more years out of their current systems, then it will be time for an upgrade anyway.
@Alan-rt3se you first have a year extended updates for $30 which I would take if on really old pc, then if there is no more updates after that, I would consider zer0 patch, I would not run Windows without some form of updates online.
@@Britec09 yeah. Roblox will also end Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 support on January 15, 2025. Note that if your system is a stable stand alone system that is never online and you are not introducing new software or other stuff, updates are not an issue. I've had Windows 7 running over a decade on such a system running my solar power software. No need to be online. tt just works, off in a corner by itself (poor thing). Just saying......

Corporations have FIREWALL computers protecting their entire network. Can a fully patched and updated Windows 11 computer be used as a firewall to protect vulnerable, BUT CRITICAL systems that have no updates available?
The problem I have is my i7 PC does not support TPM 2.0 I might try the rufus update to Windows 11 or the recently announced MicroSoft work around. I tried GIMP but I don't find it as smooth as Photoshop in my workflow.
Great video but you could condense it down to two minutes. That's the one thing I love about the British. You ask them what the time is and they tell you how to build a watch 🤣. Thanks for the info!
I have a Windows 10 machine that I need to do a Repair on or upgrade to Windows 11 as it will no longer install any Windows 10 updates, and yes I have tried to force installs and all sorts of work arounds to get it to update, but still it refuses. I mean the system was built in 2018 so not exactly an ancient machine. It's like anything in life take a chance, update or don't update totally your choice, live with the consequences. My phone hasnt had security updates since like march 2023 but im just taking the risks because Its an old flagship and can run every game I throw at it. The only issue I have is the 128 gb of storage space is not nearly enough in 2024 when the games are 25-30+ gb each. Until my battery starts draining fast I dont plan on switching phones anytime soon. I mainly use it as an emulation device anyways i dont have anything important to lose besides whats on the sd card and all my passwords are in a password manager and are not even on the device itself.
Not so fast, MS will rake in billion dollars on that one-year update alone and the US congress get involved and forced to come up with the external HW solution or something else.
or...NEVER using one's W10 pc on the Internet, yes? Just using it as a CAD-tool, as in my case. No biggie!! Although...there's nothing "wrong" with a debloated W11. I just HATE to "throw away" perfectly-good hardware. Like most-viewers, I'm bettin' 🙂 If it works, it simply will. [ok, ok...my Timex Sinclair no longer does :-((( ]
Some people say that they wont update their system because they take long time and it keeps them from doing work and that they are safe as long as they dont download or browse dodgy websites , what do you say to them
Yes, but its doesnt mean they wont work in the future after EOS. And remember Windows 10 LTSC will be supported until 2032 so apps should work either way.
What about our security from Microsoft with its blatant spyware in co-pilot and recall?! Although I have a new machine with Windows 11. I have an old one with Windows 8.1 and it works fine without updates and with a good antivirus program and cleaning program
Wow! Do Microsoft actually pay RUclipsrs, did a good job reading the Windows update info page & spreading paranoia. Best thing I did was totally cut off contact with Microsoft telemetry, data gathering and updates. PC o/s no longer crashes & I monitor all internet traffic closely. Keep trying to spread the mis-information Brite tec, you're not as 'brite' as you think!
What happens if you never do updates,,,,, absolutely Nothing. I like most of your youtube videos britec09 but lately you are talking such crap. How does a virus even get into a pc, by the browser, so use sandboxie a good firewall like comodo and nothing gets past as it places it in isolation virtually so unless you allow it. I don't care if my os has 20 holes, nothing is getting past, i never update, updates cause more issues than not, you can even run os in timefreeze and every time you use it, its reset, of course you may not want that, but then you can back up os with Aomei backup. 1st my firewall stop anything if it can even get past, but it cant by pass a sandbox then if your using a user account and bitblocker it has even more difficult getting past, but because it cant get past in the first place there no worry. Only if people download dodgy software can then get infected. As for spying why not get rid of win 10 and go back to 8.1 or 7 ive got them working on modern hardware, you just need the driver in the os added. So stop with this nonsense. Are you paid by microsoft? You should try a sandbox and see if anything gets past, it wont and if people use common sense they are fine as for software all mine works fine i could update them, but never had an issue, not sure how your running yours. You made a vid like this recently i guess it makes you money even if it's wrong info. I guess for the person, who doesn't take the right steps or knows how to you would be correct otherwise No. Lets be honest people browsing *Corn* will get infected as websites are injected with such, don't do it. and test software in total virus, there are lots of ways to keep using old os. Viruses don't just jump on your pc, just by using the internet, but the browser is the main way. If you have software you use on line and worry it might let a virus in use it in a sandbox or vm problem solved.
Security risks are not a problem, it's software that can no longer run on Windows 7, that is the problem. I've never experienced any security issues, I think this is scaremongering.
I'm doing that. I have an old Dell 3910 currently using Linux Mint, and a new build planned for use with Nobara Linux, but I also intend to stick with 23H2 for as long as I possibly can (and THEN I'll ditch Miscreantsoft operating systems forever and all time! 🤣🤣🤣)
I've switched to Linux several years ago. NO REGRETS!! The best thing, in my opinion? My computer boots up just as fast now as it did when I first installed Linux. Can't say that about Windoze. My "work" laptop (I'm retired now) takes at least 5 minutes to fully boot up, whereas my Linux system is ready to rock and roll in about 25 seconds... always!
I run windows 7 still with only the critical updates needed, it's a falicy that all updates should be loaded, I've been building pcs for years and avoiding security updates they slow everything down badly and often end up corrupting the system, what a load of B/S this is. Only load what is needed and turn off automatic updates. Use offline installers where ever possible, use a good antuvirus programme and enable the firewall. Another problem with security updates is the end of life pop ups that bug your desktop and you until you upgrade fed up with being pestered by them. Ive never had any vulnerability issues ever.
Hi @Britec09 i saw you stopped Discord so is it possible to get tech help if i post on your youtube posts? There is nowhere to get tech help anywhere, your discord was fantastic, made may friends. So sorry 😞

Oh yes. Fishing expeditions are good intelligence.
@davidswanson9269 What has that got to do with the video? You can always use another OS, but you probably already do
They will patch in some new vulns right before EOL to sell more 11 trash.
You're a real trooper, Brian! 👍🏼
Thank you and have a great week! 🙏🏼
I appreciate that!
What if you never do Windows updates? Basically you're me. The only updates I do are the security ones, I never do system updates. It ain't broke, so I don't fix it.
Like I said, because you have been driving around with no seatbelt for 10 years with no incident, don't mean it won't happen.
@@Britec09if his security is up to date where is the problem?
Normally better keep windows update on but some people keep it off 📴 some people have big problems some not l keep on but ask me before if want download updates sometimes wait one week or more time for see if all working properly
You can block Windows Update server IP addresses and urls via modem to stop automatically update and then if your modem supports the "whitelist" option on the next blacklist, whitelist Microsoft Update Catalog url, download link to stop receiving updates automatically without problems
@@sg.o7139Security updates can be hidden away inside other updates including browser updates. If you "only install security updates" then you haven't got all the security updates
i love updating my windows 10!!!!! i love breaking drivers and creating even more unfixable issues from updating!!!!! 😍
with every update the pc gets more slower ..... sorry but i don't trust microsoft 90% is pure BS
So don't use there OS, pretty simple really.
In the Philippines I heard from the Technician he used Windows 7, because it supports his Gadgets to unlock the password of any not so old phone. Maybe the Gadget that he bought in their group are built with old software that cannot be install on win 8,9,10 & 11.
A virtual machine might do the job. It's worth trying, as it's free.
That's why if it fails I just ignore it
Back in the day, on my old windows 7 machine, it worked okay but then windows broke windows update so that windows update wouldn't work.
That is one way.
I blocked windows update in 2021 using the StopUpdates10. I reinstalled windows this year on another SSD. Now I can boot into the old and new windows. The old windows perform much, much better.
That's your choice.

Like I said, offline only
Actually I don't want updates that harm more than they help.
That is up to you. you can lead a horse to water, but you can't force it to drink.
i haven't updated my Windows 10 in 4 years since i installed it and i don't have any problems of course i have Kaspersky and i don't care about security updates cause even those cause more issues then they fix and if you use your PC for normal stuff like gaming and general internet use you don't have to worry about security updates windows updates and all that crap 9 out of 10 times those will only break your system it's Microsoft after all now if you use the PC for banking and work stuff if you know what you are doing and have good firewall and Anti-virus you still don't need any Windows crap
I don’t put my music production pc online… all my software works great, so I’m chilling

That's just silly.
@ I want maximum responsiveness and gaming performance. I think it’s worth the trade off. My Windows 11 install is only 5GB.
@@kpv123 True.
@user-yl1xy5eg7b Linux would be a much better option than using Windows XP/7 online
@Britec09 or use sandboxie, comodo firewall, user acc, no net for patches if nothing can get past, the browser is the thing that needs protecting.
Stable update is good but an unstable update is bad like the 24h2
If I could never install feature updates then I wouldn't install feature updates. But unfortunately we live in a society where everybody holds your hand and Microsoft forces us to do this now.
feature updates are not the same as security updates.
By the time they turn the tap off - the bugs are already fixed.
I have a a few windows 7 devices connected simply for RUclips and music to play on screens - not for actual office work.
No updates.
No challenges.
Yes new software like new printers sometimes don’t even work.
I would not use Windows 7 on the internet, to old
@Britrec09 yeah I agree for work and sensitive data.
on a computer with no data where the propose is to only play / stream video and music and has hit other data on it . . . I have no challenge with that.
Wise advice !
Thanks
Updates are important except when the update crashes your computer. Good video.
People will still believe you don't need updates.
That could work, but there could still be vulnerability's just be careful
@Alan-rt3se you first have a year extended updates for $30 which I would take if on really old pc, then if there is no more updates after that, I would consider zer0 patch, I would not run Windows without some form of updates online.
5:19 Supermium and R3dfox still supported on oldest Windows versions so, mine is perfectly fine
That still don't solve the lack of windows updates

Corporations have FIREWALL computers protecting their entire network. Can a fully patched and updated Windows 11 computer be used as a firewall to protect vulnerable, BUT CRITICAL systems that have no updates available?
All of the old Windows XP or Windows 7 systems running on ATM and POS systems are all offline.

The problem I have is my i7 PC does not support TPM 2.0 I might try the rufus update to Windows 11 or the recently announced MicroSoft work around. I peeked at a few Linux distros, but most of my apps are Windows based, so how effective would running Photoshop CS6 in a Virtual Window in Mint for example? I tried GIMP but I don't find it as smooth as Photoshop in my workflow.
Well, your printing won’t be nuked every 3 months I bet. Also won’t have older BIOS and drivers force-installed over the newer manufacturer ones.

Just offline for printing and photo editing here . Zorin os for the last 5 months for everything online.

Not so fast, MS will rake in billion dollars on that one-year update alone and the US congress get involved and forced to come up with the external HW solution or something else.
Well, at least they give you a choice with that 15 to 20 year old computer.
or...NEVER using one's W10 pc on the Internet, yes? Just using it as a CAD-tool, as in my case. No biggie!! Although...there's nothing "wrong" with a debloated W11. You don't say, sooo...you deleted all of your XP how to/repair videos in the name of "safety", am I right??? I mean, it works both ways...
You can use XP offline or in a Virtual Machine with not internet. This is for people who still need to run old software, as long as its offline.
Apps should still work even after EOS, Win 11 kernel is the same as Win 10. Windows 11 is just Windows 10 under the mask.
Latest Apps don't work on XP and Windows 7
Yes, but its doesnt mean they wont work in the future after EOS.
And remember Windows 10 LTSC will be supported until 2032 so apps should work either way.

Keep trying to spread the mis-information Brite tec, you're not as 'brite' as you think!
You're supposed to do updates?
And crash your system like windows 10 did last year. To millions of pcs
If you have software you use on line and worry it might let a virus in use it in a sandbox or vm problem solved.
not as long as it stays off fkg line
updates and virus protections are useless
