Alex, Barths are really something special and have almost a cult following today. There are several owner groups online you should look into for help with your restoration. The Barth is probably the the ONLY 1972 motorhome you'd even want to consider bringing back today due to their quality and heritage.
Alex, I was taught to never place a 12v battery on a cement floor, the cold saps the energy from the battery, place it on a piece of plywood or something to keep it up off the cement...hope this helps, love your channel, Rich in California
I am sure you know this, buy a few bags of charcoal and put the briquettes throughout the motor home. It absorbs a lot of odors. Works very well. Put it in the fridge, too.
I can't believe that I'm sitting here cheering you on like it's a sporting event. I love it when these old vehicles start again. We had a mini winnie with a chevrolet engine circa 1986. We had many great adventures in it.
Hi Alex, you have some awesome subscribers/followers. That was so nice of them to just give you that RV. I’m guessing they knew you would do right by it & restore it, instead of just scraping it. I’m looking forward to watching you & most likely Melissa & the Kids. All of your projects seem to be family filled. They all seem to pitch in helping you clean and restoring it back to looking new again. God bless & take care.
Air it out by opening all the windows!! That Febreze will only add to the aromas. Also take out all those cushions too or the stink will remain!! Looks like a fun project for you guys!
FYI, I wouldn't reappolster the cushions but toss them all out. If mice were inside they peed everywhere. The urine smell will continue unless the cushions are tossed. Even if it doesn't run again, it would be a great extra room for visitors. Will the Motorhome need to pass any emissions test in Canada if put back on the road again?
Absolutely! You should remove ALL the carpets and fabric items from the interior if you can. No way that smell is EVER coming out. New foam isn’t all that expensive, relatively speaking, and it will go a LONG way to getting the odor under control.
Thank you for shutting the engine cover after using gas in the carborater. An old boyfriend died when he did that to his stalled demolition derby car and it flamed back on him.
You have a classic way cool RV. There is a hard core Cult following for these motorhomes. Polished like a vintage airstream the are gorgeous. Please do your homework if you are going to restore it. It would be the perfect vehicle to tow classic cars to shows. And you have a place to stay. Nice find!!
I can just see your wife standing back and telling herself, "yep, he's just like a kid with a new toy. Something to keep him occupied for a while again". Love it.
😁👋👍👍👏👏💕🙏🏻 Looking forward to the next episode. A fantastic find. We were given one. The breaks needed to be fixed. The roof needs to be repaired. Mice had been in it. It does run. And we were able to drive it home. A work in progress.
****SAFETY PRECAUTION **** Watch out for the lino on the floor . It may have a paper backing with ASBESTOS in it . The possibility of it having that is higher due to the year it was manufactured . Nice free find ❤
Your generator came from my childhood home county, down the road from our home in Elkhart, Indiana. Barth RV was manufactured near our favorite lake to swim in Milford, IN
She looks perfect for a food truck conversation. Lots of interior space if it was fully stripped out and lots of billboard advertising space on the outside, plus it has the added advantage of the 70s design language
Ah yes, the ponderous "Barf"! I could smell it from here! My late aunt/uncle wore 2 of these and 2 Winnebagos out during their retirement...the only relatives I actually liked!
I was driving on the ring road west of Edmonton last Saturday when I saw a green two toned 77 Ford F-250 super cab pulling a cargo trailer going the other way.... I said to my buddy in the car next to me that I know who driving that truck... I had to tell him about Alex and his channel... I sure he is going to check it out!
Horrifying to have 1972 so vividly brought back from my distant memory. I could almost smell it. I will certainly watch to see you fix up this beast. Best of luck. :o)
That is going to be an interesting project. I have never heard of Barth before but looks like an awesome motor home. Will be interesting to see how the restoration goes. Good luck with this project.
Great one Alex, that'll keep you busy, you enjoy these and so do we! This is going to look good , really good, going by all your other successes with the vehicles you've brought back from the brink! ❤ XXX
I always enjoy watching you get these old cars running and back on the game. It is so cool watching them get back on the road. ID you sell your event, camper. That you had.😊😊
My neighbor has the same year Barth 1 size smaller. They've been traveling all over Alberta with it the last 15yrs. It never let them down and they'll never sell it.
Nice, Now lets all sit back and watch the Curiosity Inc family turn a free gift into a phenomenal refurbished motor home, I am so glad that instead of other options the former owner knew that the crazy owner of curiosity Inc would get this beautiful vehicle back on the road and perhaps find it a new family, Once again Alex gets the call because he always does the right thing, I can't wait for the follow up episodes.
@@sherylbentley3724RV SHOPS: Always way overpriced BUT they’ve got you ‘OVER A BARREL’ as they say as it is all SPECIALTY ITEMS basically! Good Score! BRAKES usually BAD DUE TO SITTING!
If they are not the type that lock in/on, hopefully they were purposely taken off and stored elsewhere during transport; so they would not fly off during transport. I said hopefully!
What is it about listening to an old motor being "revived" that is so satisfying?! Even as a little kid I already was fascinated by this process and the sound. This Vehicle is quite a catch, congrats!
So happy for you to get the RV started. It’s not that bad, like you said, but getting rid of the mouse invested stuff will definitely be a plus , plus a cleanup.👍. Amazing, you got it moving.
WOW! Can't believe how easy that started. Barth's were made just up the road from me in Milford, Indiana. A lot of my friends worked there. That was considered a "luxury" motorhome back in the day. They stopped making them in 1998. Definitely worth putting some money into in that condition & since you got it for nothing! Should make for some great episodes.
You must find where mice come in.. seal it with foam.. Before putting new cushions… or what so ever Nice find actually.. let’s see what’s next! Best luck !
The average house price in the USA in 1972 was around USD26,500. This vehicle cost USD18,995 (including extras) so the same as a cheap house at the time. This is going to be another extraordinary series, not least because I'm sure some experts on the Barth will pop up with advice borne from experience.
Nice gift. It will take some work to get it back into usable use and up to your high standards. Perhaps once the hard work is finished, you can take your family in a mini-vacation befóre you sell it on. I look forward to watching this new project unfold. 😊😊😊
I dont think I'd moved that rv w o cming brakes that was a little scarey for me but im a little nervous w something like that sorry dont mean to harp transmission/brakes
This would be awesome to have as a part of a short-term rental(Like VRBO or AirBnB) situation on a nice secluded wooded property somewhere once it is all fixed up.
It’s got good bones looks like. Drain n clean the gas tank before you fire her up. Would be a good camper to place in the bush as a base camp. Have a good one.
😂🤣WOW these are like opening the biggest lucky bags EVER but for adults , so exciting , I'm buusting at the seams to find out what you find , not long lost my dog daughter and don't wish to be around people in general other than my 2 closest friends whom are like family to me, so channels like yours brings light and joy into my small world , thank you 🥰 from us here in Cornwall, UK 💛💛💛
I've been traveling in a 2016 rv fulltime for almost 5 yrs. Fair warning... they can be real money pits!! I'd check the fresh water, grey water & black tanks right away to make sure none of the plumbing is cracked. If it wasn't winterized-especially in Canada, it could have ruined all the plumbing, heater, frig & dump values. Sure hope that's not the case! It would be a great project for someone who wants to hit the road fulltime .
Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

Ditto on the support group, I was a member, great people. I owned an 82 Barth for a while. If you choose to sell, it should bring in big money.
Your so right👍🏽
Love these RV renovations you do ,nothing phases you ,onwards and upwards Alex ,fun for us viewers that’s for sure
Alex, I was taught to never place a 12v battery on a cement floor, the cold saps the energy from the battery, place it on a piece of plywood or something to keep it up off the cement...hope this helps, love your channel, Rich in California
Urban myth. It was so with batteries a centry ago but not with ones that have a plastic case.
HOLY COW! That $18,000 in 1972, is the equivalent of $134,798.00 TODAY!
I am sure you know this, buy a few bags of charcoal and put the briquettes throughout the motor home. It absorbs a lot of odors. Works very well. Put it in the fridge, too.
Looks like a tour bus. You’ll have to put a band together now. 😂
I can't believe that I'm sitting here cheering you on like it's a sporting event. I love it when these old vehicles start again. We had a mini winnie with a chevrolet engine circa 1986. We had many great adventures in it.
You have the magic when it comes to old vehicles. Looking forward to this restoration series.
What a nice old time capsule. The interior though in need of deep cleaning and a bit of a remodel is in pretty good shape for it being so old.

You're very lucky. Most free vehicles are worth exactly what you pay for them.
Thank you for shutting the engine cover after using gas in the carborater. An old boyfriend died when he did that to his stalled demolition derby car and it flamed back on him.

I’m always amazed at how excited I get when Alex tries to turn a vehicle over. “Start!start!”
I know right! I almost burst into cheers when the RV ALMOST started lol 😂.
I can just see your wife standing back and telling herself, "yep, he's just like a kid with a new toy. Something to keep him occupied for a while again". Love it.
😁👋👍👍👏👏💕🙏🏻
Looking forward to the next episode. A fantastic find.

This vlog is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get! 🙂
Love it. Takes me back to the old Airstream you saved.
Me too!
I thought the AM/FM toilet paper holder was cool then you showed the bar. I hope you keep it and get it functioning. 🇨🇦
Not to bad my friend. I bet it is hard on gas though. But a good fixer upper.
Hey Bill!
Definitely! You figured it out! That is exactly how mummies feel!
You maybe able to locate an RV or travel trailer that was totalled out that you can savage a lot of the components from.
Now that is a cool old motor home, glad it's getting a new lease on life thanks to you and the viewer that gave it to you, have a blast Alex!
This will be fun to watch. I'm getting the popcorn ready!

Love your enthusiasm.
"It was FREE!"
(That's what I'm all about too.)
Thanks for taking us along on your adventures.
Look forward to watching the series on this rebuild !!

Your home is beautiful. Well done from a builder.
She looks perfect for a food truck conversation. Lots of interior space if it was fully stripped out and lots of billboard advertising space on the outside, plus it has the added advantage of the 70s design language
It's beautiful. The size of the windows is so cool. Imagine going down the road and watching the beautiful scenery.
Ah yes, the ponderous "Barf"! I could smell it from here! My late aunt/uncle wore 2 of these and 2 Winnebagos out during their retirement...the only relatives I actually liked!
Can't wait to see what you do to it!!! I love watching your videos, thank you for sharing and have a great day!
Very cool and I imagine it's a rare RV.
Right on Alex!

Very cool Alex, this will be a fun series to watch! 👏👏👏

😂
Great Episode Alex! I love this old motorhome! So excited to watch you bring her back to life!
That is going to be an interesting project. I have never heard of Barth before but looks like an awesome motor home. Will be interesting to see how the restoration goes. Good luck with this project.
This brought me right back to when my dad bought an old Winnebago.
Very amazing---well done, Alex!
Great one Alex, that'll keep you busy, you enjoy these and so do we! This is going to look good , really good, going by all your other successes with the vehicles you've brought back from the brink! ❤ XXX
Great luck! Fantastic that it starts, runs, and moves. Now to get it to stop.
I always enjoy watching you get these old cars running and back on the game. It is so cool watching them get back on the road.
ID you sell your event, camper. That you had.😊😊
I am not surprised at all that you got it started!! Good luck with this project.
Yes, definitely can bet on Alex. He has that know-how!
My neighbor has the same year Barth 1 size smaller. They've been traveling all over Alberta with it the last 15yrs. It never let them down and they'll never sell it.

I was so glad when it started. I have no doubt it will be great when you finish. ❤❤❤
I hope so!
Real nice condition for a 51 yo rig. Benefit is that it is user friendly for doing repairs. Congratulations.
I cant believe things like this would be thrown away. A stylish camper like this would fetch good money here in Europe.
The grates are missing on the stove. Hopefully they won’t be too hard to find or they’re in a cabinet
Yeah, I stow mine somewhere when I'm driving because they make too much racket.
Shouldn't be hard to find at a RV shop.

They will be in a cabinet I wld say they were careful with it as it’s not in bad shape and toilet is clean and that says a lot….
If they are not the type that lock in/on, hopefully they were purposely taken off and stored elsewhere during transport; so they would not fly off during transport. I said hopefully!
So weird that there is only the side door!! Seems like a safety hazard for sure!! Interested in watching this progress!!🥰🥰🥰
great vehicle. Onan good generator. looks like it was taken care of. Seats were just from being used. You do a lot of sitting and driving.
You are awesome! If anyone can bring this old beauty back to life, it's you. Looking forward to this one.
I had to chuckle when you were driving that big Motor home in your driveway! You sure are mechanically talented.
This is so cool.😊
That is one extremely nice and very retro motorhome it certainly is worth putting a few dollars into it to bring it back to its former glory ❤
Wow free!! But a lot of work and loads of elbow grease. It is something I could not tackle however; I bet Alex will accomplish the big transformation!
What is it about listening to an old motor being "revived" that is so satisfying?! Even as a little kid I already was fascinated by this process and the sound. This Vehicle is quite a catch, congrats!
Well its another Alex project. Good luck with it all....🙏🙏😍
Someone new home for sure, self contained, park almost anywhere, and cable TV. Wow. A homeless dream lol. Have a great day
That was so exciting it started. Yeah!!!
Lucky! I wish I could find one. Need a place to live.
What a result,you’ve scored big time there👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Work is going well! New video friday
🙋♀️❤️. A free deralict motor home, that works! Only you, Alex!
This motor home is worth alot of cash and getting it for free is so awesome.
So happy for you to get the RV started. It’s not that bad, like you said, but getting rid of the mouse invested stuff will definitely be a plus , plus a cleanup.👍. Amazing, you got it moving.
That's the plan!

Wow what an upgrade to the Volkswagen you sold. Always a surprise what’s next so I can’t wait to see the end result of this project

My 1976 GMC Motorhome originally sold for around $30k in 1975. Not much different then the $150+ new motorhomes you see today.
How brilliant is this!!!
Good luck with the motorhome. Stay safe.
Don't store your battery directly on ground, it may cause it to be discharged. Put it on a rubber bath mat or plastic shelf.

One thing I love about Alex is his glass is always half full.
Well done. Watching the renovation will be fun... go for it!
