Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This worked like a charm. I had been using the windows 11 Dev and with a recent update, the task bar disappeared and I decided to do a fresh install and it didn't go so well. 😂 This is a great reason why I have been a HP guy for 20 plus years since the windows 98 days. HP hasn't let me down yet... My drum rigs and studios are powered by HP. Great job and thanks again for the video as it's a life saver for me.

What can I do if I accidentally erased the contents of the D: Recovery partition? Is there any way I can restore that recovery content on the D: partition without having to reinstall Windows 10?? (HP 17-X051NR model). At one time I did make a "restore USB" flash drive, can this be somehow copied back to the D: Recovery partition?

    • @HPSupport
      @HPSupport  5 лет назад

+Vint Guitarz The ONLY way to actually restore that partition is to do a complete factory restore of the entire drive -- and that starts by reformatting the drive, removing everything on it, and recreating the original partitions. This can only be done using something known as HP Recovery Media.

    Hello!
I entered this recovery process by mistake and once I figured out that I'm reformating all hard disk partitions (like shown at min 6:37) I manually shut down my laptop by pressing the power button.
I figured out that my hard drive is wiped and the windows partition returned to its original size and the other big partition was still unallocated.
I'd like to know how can I recover my original windows after interrupting the recovery process (the windows partition contains the ordinary files but it seems that the content of the files is missing as the used space of the partition is too small).

I have an HP Pavilion x360 m Convertible (Model is 14m-dh1003dx).
When I switch on my laptop, the following message is being displayed --
      "Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
      Hard Disk
      F2 System Diagnostics"
So the following are the 6 troubleshooting steps that I went through ........
      (1) Firstly, I wanted to check if the hard disk is ok. So I pressed F2 to go into the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, and selected the option "Hard Drive Check" . It ran the test for 5 minutes and displayed the following message --
      "Smart Check : PASSED
      Long DST : PASSED"
      (2) Then I thought of running the "Windows Recovery Drive" . Which I have on a USB stick, which I made when I bought this computer. So I went into the boot order menu (F10) and made USB Drive the first one. Then switched the computer off, inserted the Windows Recovery Drive USB stick, and restarted the computer. All I see is a black screen with the grey HP circle logo in the centre of the screen, like when the windows is booting up. And there are no circling dots below that logo, only the black screen with the grey circle HP logo in the centre. I left it like that for a long time, but nothing happens.
      (3) Next I tried running the "Windows Installation Media". Which I had made on another USB stick. With the USB Drive being first on the boot order, I inserted this Windows Installation Media USB stick, and restarted the computer. It doesn't even recognise it. It just displays the original message --
      "Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
      Hard Disk
      F2 System Diagnostics"
      (4) I even have a "Hiren Boot CD" on a third USB stick. I thought of trying it. Same steps, with the USB Drive being first on the boot order, I inserted this Hiren Boot CD USB stick, and restarted the computer. It doesn't even recognise this one as well, and again it just displays the original message --
      "Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
      Hard Disk
      F2 System Diagnostics"
      (5) Next I thought of trying the BIOS Recovery/Update. I restarted the computer while press-holding the Windows key+B key, at the same time pressing the power button for 3 seconds. The screen went blank for 10 to 15 seconds, then the following message appeared --
"The BIOS recovery files cannot be found or the files are corrupted.
Using another computer and a USB flash drive, download the latest BIOS file from the HP website and create a BIOS USB recovery drive for the PC that needs recovery.
Insert the BIOS recovery drive into the PC that needs recovery and restart the PC.
To learn more about creating a USB recovery drive, go to the HP website (and then there's a link in blue colour font)"
      (6) Next, I thought of trying "System Recovery". I pressed the power button to start the computer, and then pressed ESC key repeatedly to go into the Startup Menu. Then pressed F11 (System Recovery option) . It displays the following message in a blue dialogue box --
"The selected boot device failed. Press to Continue"
So this did not work as well.
An important note -- Ever since I bought this computer, occasionally something used to happen. The computer, while running, would crash, and then restart itself. And then at the time of booting up, it would show this same message --
      "Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.
      Hard Disk
      F2 System Diagnostics"
This used to happen occasionally, and been happening ever since I bought this computer. BUT, whenever this happened, I just used to turn it off, then back on, and it used to boot back up normally, and windows started up normally. So I thought it's just an occasional malfunction and didn't think much of it.
Please help me resolve this. I am guessing it's the BIOS issue. Should I do the steps mentioned in point 5 that I wrote up here about the BIOS?
[P.S. -- I do not know if my Windows 10 is 32 bit, or 64 bit]

Hi there, thanks for contacting HP Global Social Media Support!
I understand that you need to know about recovering your computer.
I will do my best to assist you.
A system recovery completely erases all files, programs, and saved work on the hard drive. Always back up important information before attempting a recovery. If additional hard drives are connected to the computer, for example an HP Media Drive, disconnect the data and power cables from the back of the extra drive before performing a system recovery. This prevents possible data loss on the additional drive.

+Alexandre Carvalho Follow these steps to recover an HP computer using a download of the recovery software:
-A free digital download of the recovery software is offered for most HP computers.
-After agreeing to the download, a confirmation email is sent to your registered email address or alternate email address, if desired.
-Open the email on the computer to be recovered or any other computer running Windows 7 or above.
-The email includes two download links, one for the instructions on the recovery process, the other for the recovery software.
-You can access the links twice before they are voided.
-Open the links to download software.
-Do not use a VPN or proxy or the downloads will not start.
-Open the downloaded applications and follow the prompts to download the instructions and recovery software.
-To launch the Download Manager at a different time, the program files are saved in the Recovery Instructions folder inside your Downloads folder.
-Select Launch to open the USB Boot Drive Creator.
-Open the folder with the same name as your model, and then open HpRecovery.exe.
-Insert a thirty-two gigabyte or larger USB drive into your computer.
-Save any data on the drive you would like to keep.
      -Select Next.
-Select the drive you want to use to create the recovery media, and then select Next.
-Select the check box to confirm your drive selection and to acknowledge the drive will be wiped, and then select Next.
-The software prepares the drive and then creates the bootable media.
-With the recovery media creation complete, select Exit.
-On the computer to be recovered, remove any discs in any media drives, and then shut down the computer from Windows.
-If Windows does not shut down, press and hold the Power button until the computer is off.
-Disconnect all peripheral devices and cords, except the keyboard, mouse, power cord, and monitor.
-If you are recovering a notebook computer, disconnect everything but the power cord.
-Insert the USB recovery media directly into the computer which needs to be recovered.
-Turn on the computer and press the Escape key repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
-Press F9 to display the boot device options for your computer.
-Use the up and down arrow keys to navigate to the USB recovery hard drive that has UEFI in the name, and then press Enter.
-If after a few minutes the recovery media does not start automatically, restart the computer and try the steps again.
-Select Back up your files first or File Backup, depending on the version of Recovery Manager.
      -Select Next.
-When prompted to choose where to save the backup, insert a second USB drive or an external hard drive into the computer.
-Select the drive where you want to save the backup files.
-Select Next, and then select Next again to save the files to the selected drive.
-With the backup complete, remove the backup drive from the computer, and then select Next to return to the Recovery Manager home screen.
-If prompted, select Factory Reset, and then select Next.
-If prompted, select OK to begin the recovery process.
      -The recovery preparation completes.
-If prompted for a supplemental recovery USB drive, select Skip.
-Select Continue, and then if prompted, select OK to restart the computer.
-System recovery installs any software that was originally loaded on your computer.
-Follow the on-screen prompts to complete setting up Windows.
-With Windows setup complete, connect any peripheral devices and cables that were previously disconnected.

+HARSHIL SHARMA HARSHIL SHARMA Follow these steps to recover an HP computer using a download of the recovery software:
