Regarding Mary Magdalene’s becoming a male, this is obviously symbolic. Male and female represent cosmic principles, the active and the receptive, the solar and the lunar… this is all about unity. The complete human being contains and transcends this duality.

As someone who considers themself Christian but doesn't gel with either Nicene Christianity or Gnostic Christianity, I consider the Gospel of Thomas a nice middle ground between the two.
That isn't to say I agree 100% with Thomas. But my experience has led me to believe that all scripture, Christian and non-Christian alike, is to be wrestled with, not accepted unconditionally or rejected wholeheartedly.

I think the Gospel of Thomas is very interesting, it just lost out in the canonization process. The John/Thomas rivalry is fascinating.
The Gospel of Thomas seems Gnostic because salvation is through knowledge (gnosis) rather than faith

I think when Thomas talks about the light inside of us it’s in reference to the spirit that we use to develop our personal relationship with god and it was taken out so that some churches could use the Bible to control people in the sense of you have to have a priest or father pray to god for you

I think the story of Thomas being unbeliever, just as the story of Peter denying Christ or Judas being a traitor, just show that the Apostles were very human and sinners. I doubt it tries to make any of them look good or bad, but it makes sense the story of Thomas in the Gospel of John to be highlighted if the Gospel of Thomas was around as an indirect refutation to it.
I also wonder if Thomas, who apparently went in India and founded a Church there, left any heretic ideas particular to that church.

It seems to me (and Stevan Davies, one translator of the gospel) that saying 114 was tacked onto the end at a later date and was not part of the original gospel. Saying 113 talks of the kingdom being spread upon the earth and men do not see it... Kind of going full circle back to saying 3 which talks of the kingdom being within and outside of You. So it makes more sense for 113 to be the last saying as it "completes the circle" Someone at a later time

Is it just me or is this mostly Buddhist/daoist teachings? Ex: Saying #56 (21:12) is basically «He who knows, does not speak. He who speaks, does not know.» - Lao Tzu. The Gospel of Thomas is not in the canonical Bible. However, it may be an extremely early Gospel. It claims to be authored by Jesus himself (Perhaps, just after the resurrection. See Acts 1:3 and the Thomas Prologue). Thomas also purports to have been scribed by Jesus' brother Jude Thomas, who probably also wrote Jude, the second last book in the New Testament. This would mean that Thomas is unique being not only written by Jesus the author and finisher of our faith but is also an early apostolic writing having been scribed by Thomas. This Gospel also appears to be the foundational scripture underpinning the other apostolic writings found within what is often called the New Testament. I believe that Thomas is greatly misinterpreted, just as many things are today when taken out of context. Similar to how texting someone can be taken out of context by the lack of important body language or tone of voice even. I was not there, so i put little faith in stories, and all my faith in Jesus. The truth of the Father and the son are this, ask and you will recieve, knock and the door will be answered. Everything is already written inside those who seek Our Father, Our Father's love reveals it. It is through his love we can know him, as it is through his love he knows us. Love is the truth of all things, as love was the creation of all things. The original design, the image of the Father. God is good. Love the Father with all your hearts and minds, and then love your neighbor as yourself. This is the way to the Kingdom and it is already here, the end is the same as the beginning. God is love ❤

I told my fiancé that I felt that Jesus & Judas switched places. It was not Jesus that was crucified that day & I know a lot of people will get angry for me even saying this but not even 2 weeks ago I came across the Gospel of Barnabas & he states that Judas was the one crucified that day, not Jesus 🙏 you should consider going down the Barnabas Gospel. It is INCREDIBLE. Has so many verses that he should have received credit for in the KJV & of course did not & it goes into more detail about the Light you spoke about today 🙏❤️

I do not know if Jesus said that about Mary becoming man, but it made sense for Jesus to choose men as Apostles as society at that time did not take women seriously, so choosing women would have frustrated the spread of the Gospel. Still, Mary indeed was basically an Apostle even if not recognized as such. It seems church later were more acceptable of women as shown later (Lydia, Acts 16:11-15), in a sense it seems it was even more acceptable at those early centuries of women than Medieval Church later.

I think Thomas had a sceptical mind and this lead to him being caught up with gnostics as they were into intellectual secret meanings and this is why he only has the sayings and not the stories of the Gospels. John was written later so had more of what the church was about in his account and in repudiation to other thoughts of the time.

I think that the female becoming male refers, similarly to Buddhism, that the spirit has no sex, and that the body of females (considered impure) is an impediment to realize spiritual perfection. So, when Jesus says he would make women into men, it means that he will eliminate the "impurities" of the female body to led them into perfection. In other words, is like when Paul says that there is no longer Greek or Jew, man or woman, for all are equal in the Kingdom of Christ.

In between the two gospel in simplicity just represent the two major religions will strongly ever exist in our days of life to the end thas opposes each other as of today. We are witnessing some religion claiming they were there before Christianity that's why Thomas was asking Jesus actuals questions in order making sure no deciver of such religion will ever come to plaques followers from the legit light which was presented by Jesus. Thas Why those two occurrences competed each with no exact dates written to avoid disclaimer religion rather than Christianity and by other to give the experience by seeing with hearings and by witnessing assurance from them through Jesus acknowledging future generation to avoid conflict to upcoming future followers generations whom they never saw Jesus neither hard but only script never to be confused. There are many good reasons to believe the Gospel of Thomas was written by Gnostic believers who allowed their saving trust in hidden, esoteric knowledge to taint their description of Jesus. The text was discovered among other Gnostic works and opens with the words, “These are the secret sayings that the living Jesus spoke and Didymos Judas Thomas recorded.” Salvation is found not in the substitutionary atonement of Christ on the cross (nor in “good works”), but is instead found in the secret, hidden words of Jesus if they are properly and insightfully understood. For this reason, the Gospel of Thomas fails to describe any of Jesus’ historic life and focuses instead on His words alone. This connection between hidden knowledge and salvation (or spiritual enlightenment) is characteristic of Gnostic groups of this era.
The oldest manuscript fragments of the text (found at Oxyrhynchus, Egypt) are dated from 130 to 250AD, and the vast majority of scholars agree that the Gospel of Thomas was written no earlier than the mid-2nd Century. These scholars cite several passages in the text appearing to harmonize verses from the canonical Gospels

I think "doubting Thomas" is a literary device, like "Lazarus the beggar." When Jesus told his story, he named the beggar after his friend and (rich) benefactor, Lazarus the brother of Mary and Martha. If John is using the same technique, then Thomas is someone who is especially wise to the teachings.

Take the greek text of Gospel of Thomas and retranslate it back to Hebrew and then to english, you find that it is a poor attempt for someone in greek translating Jesus quotes. They then make more sense and actually match quotes found in longer versions of Matthew found in the Vatican. There is practically nothing gnostic in the Jesus quotes at all.

But to add to the Bible 100 or 200 years after it was written makes it a very beautiful addition to the Gospels but not necessarily a Gospel although it's like a amazing piece of the puzzle of Truth that we are all still putting together ... The Catholic Church didn't help with our quest for truth by removing so many books of the Bible which I have been studying for many years now
