As someone who believed Ohtani from the beginning, I found it hard to understand the haters. But that being said, since we believe one way, there’s nothing stopping others from believing the other way. Maybe they haven’t followed Ohtani as long as we have so don’t know his personality and traits. Maybe they thought about themselves in that situation and thought there’s no way they would let someone else handle that kind of money without knowing. People just have different experiences/upbringing when it comes to finances so it would affect their judgement against others.

Of course. Only Ohtani "haters" wanted to make Ohtani a guilty person without factual evidence. Facts are that Mizuhara took control over all the communications with Ohtani, that Mizuhara was them only one that has had access to Ohtani's bank accounts, especially his charity-dedicated account, and that Ohtani has never engaged in gambling as he hates gambling so much by saying "gambling is like a hell."

To begin with, there was absolutely no reason for Ohtani san to deliberately hold a false press conference on this matter. Most of the reports doubted his statement that he had accused Mizuhara through a lawyer to the judicial authorities, but there was no room for doubt in the first place, as false accusations themselves are punishable by law. During these approximately 2 to 3 weeks when such foolish reports were flying around, Ohtani san was earnestly competing on the MLB stage while honestly accepting the judicial authorities’ questioning. Imagining such a situation and Ohtani san’s state of mind, I can’t help but feel moved. If I were in the same position as Ohtani san… I really have to admire Ohtani san’s humanity.

I felt like Ohtani was telling the truth and I am glad that feeling is proven right. I also loved how the team closed ranks around Ohtani to show their support for him. I agree with you DMAC I think it helped bond the team together. I said it before - I feel for Ohtani losing not just the money - which might look like chump change for him - it is still $4.5 M and maybe more - but it was the trust he had in Mizuhara. Just got to be devastating. But look how he has handled it! True class, man and much respect Ohtani.

It's unfathomable to most Americans the mindset of Shohei and see things from his perspectives. After all, the US is still a baby and immature as a nation compared to Japan where generations and generations of your ancestors matter. In America, just like China, most people don't even know their ancestors especially from where they are from originally.

  • @Finedeserthouses
    @Finedeserthouses Месяц назад +115

I knew this from the beginning. I don’t think American people know about Ohtani like we do in Japan. We have watched this kid since high school and observed his mannerisms. He has always been super respectful and humble. That’s one of the biggest reasons why he is loved so much besides being the superstar as a baseball player because in Japan, being humble is the big virtue.🥰
During his time with Nippon Ham Fighters, he let his mother manage his money. His mom would give him 100,000yen (around $670) a month, and what did he do ? Saved most of it as he really didn’t have anything he wanted to spend on. On the day he performed well, he went to Seven Eleven to buy his favorite chocolate crepe (what…about a buck?) That’s who this guy is. He eats and sleeps to play baseball. He never dated anyone in high school though he was given many love letters because he didn’t want girls to interfere his passion for baseball.
A coach of Fighters was interviewed about Ohtani and the question was, “What’s about him that impressed you the most?” The interviewer was asking about his ability in baseball (pitching, hitting, running…) but the coach’s answer was simply, “His personality.” He went on and said Ohtani was just a perfect human being who is so nice, respectful and humble. Then the interviewer went on, “Oh come on! Give us something…one weird thing about him!” but he continued, “Nothing. He simply is a perfect human being.” 😂❤
Well, now that we know that he sucks at managing his money. He really is not interested in money. Why would he come to play for Angels giving up millions of 💴 if he was all about money!
Ippei lied about his school background, he actually did go to gambling school but he didn’t graduate this college in Riverside like he claimed 🙄
Oh well, I’m sure there will be haters no matter what but I will be behind him 100% 😌😌😌❤️

What he is doing was unthinkable for years (for any Japanese person to join MLB and become so successful) but he is doing it in another level even compared to Ichiro or Matsui. He is simply our son, grandson, brother. Well he was also a lover to many of us until his marriage announcement 😂. He is also our pride and joy. His home run simply makes our day, gives us energy to strive, gives us hope. Is that so bad to have in your life? He is a super hero that you can actually watch him exist, that’s all. 🥰

Thank you and well said, Doug.
I myself is a Japanese who now living in US, and I knew Ohtani was innocent.
Not only because I’m a big fan since his NPB era but I was there when I moved to US.
I could speak some English when I moved but had to rely on a lot of things to my husband or friends early on.
    Especially open a bank account.
We have different systems in Japan and I had never used check books until I moved to US.
Back to 2018, he came to US, Ohtani probably had to have Ippei to help such a things and totally understandable if he helped Ohtani’s online banking settings.
Some people blaming Ohtani that he is not work hard to learn English.
I would like to ask them that if they ever learn Japanese and living there.
Japanese and English are very different languages and one of hardest to learn.
Yes he probably still needs to and he has been learning, but that is not his 1st priority.
His first priority is work hard to improve his baseball skills for winning.
Someone like me, who can’t afford interpreter need to learn though.

Pete Rose in 1989 deny but partially admitted he bet on sports (later he said he bet on baseball) And players who used steriods deny but partially admitted by saying the trainer injected without their knowledge or say did'nt know it was steriods. In this case a guilty person will not totally deny unless he is totally innocent like Shohei, and the hater's that knocked and accused him will look like fools.

I am a first gen Japanese American. Both of my parents are Japanese with my father being part Hawaiian.
I grew up in a household where if you know of the Japanese culture things like this are of utmost shame both to the family and to the culture of Japan.
Back in the day Mizuhara would have been so distraught that he’d of taken his own life. It’s a matter of being set as an outcast where your shame to anyone and everyone because of your actions is just magnified to a number you can’t imagine as a Japanese human being.
There are many that I’ve seen and or heard of that allowed inanimate things to consume them such as money which is the biggest object that can deter anyone from being honest and have integrity.
I can both be in Shohei’s shoes and Mizuhara’s and totally understand what they are going through. Again being Japanese I can say where they are tonight in mind and body.
There’s so much more that I can get into when it comes to the Japanese culture that ties into this but, I can’t make this a novel!
I knew in my heart who was guilty and now we can finally just move forward.
    GO DODGER BLUE!

People should keep in mind that Ohtani speaks little English, and was quite highly dependent on someone like Mizuhara in ways that go way beyond the usual celebrity's-assistant role.
As an American living in Japan who doesn't speak a whole lot of Japanese, I can fully understand (a) how much you need others' help, (b) how important it is to have a trusted person help you with things like banking, and (c) how potentially dangerous it could be if it turns out that the trusted person is in fact a betrayer.
I live in Hokkaido, by the way, where Ohtani played for several years (Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters) before going over to the MLB. The Fighters have sucked ever since he left.

Shohei has the deepest respect for his mother and father. His character, his values, his sense of honor was ingrained in his upbringing. He would never ever behave in a manner that would embarrass or bring dishonor his family or to himself. Or to his country and America. People who slander others do so to self medicate their low self-esteem. They shoot from the hip, exhibit limited intelligence, are devoid of good character and verbally validate their ignorance. Critical thinking escapes them.
