Sasaki has already stated on many occasions that he has always wanted to be a Dodger, couple that with the idea of pitching with 2 other Japanese teammates, and the Dodgers liking what they saw initially. You can see how this is leaning.
It's betting, so the Dodgers must out-bit other teams like the Angels.

I would honestly bet against him being posted this off season. The Japanese are very traditional people and they love their baseball. Because of this, they're gonna fight tooth and nail to keep Sasaki as long as possible because they don't want to start losing their best players to the MLB at younger and younger ages. It hurts their own league. We'll see how it plays out.
Advantage of Dodgers is the pacific Time. (Japanese viewer friendly time)
Dodgers are covered live throughout the season because of Ohtani.
That coverage is worth gold as Yamamoto, even with his NPB pedigree, if he had gone to Cubs, Yankees, Mets or even Padres, he would be only on a highlight in the evening news but not live.
The live coverage is huge, as NHK also have a dugout camera, where they constantly shoot the “drama” behind the games which the Japanese audience enjoy. These footages are gold, they make it to social media, scenes American viewers don’t see (unless it circles in X) another reason ALL Dodgers players becomes so popular in Japan.
Also they’re closer to home.

Being a LA native/Dodger fan living in Japan and follow the NPB, I think there was a verbal agreement between Sasaki and Chiba Lotte, but now Chiba is back tracking on the agreement considering the money flow they seen Orix got from the deals with Yoshida and Yamamoto. Hence, they're trying to do the same and get more cash to sign players in order to stay competitive against their rivals such as Softbank/Orix and now Nippon Ham added to the mix, because they have been falling short

The dodgers are playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. I have a good feeling about him coming to the Dodgers. Not only can they give him the most money but they give him a chance to win a ring every single year. Very doubtful. He has been wearing Padres gear. The Dodgers also can’t offer him the most. The international bonus resets every January. Every team will have around the same amount to offer him in January.

I’m Japanese but grew up in San Diego (hence the SD cap). But I’m also a huge Ohtani fan!
I think Sasaki’s stuff is more than MLB ready, however he is fragile. The most he’s pitched is 20 starts and 129 inning. With more travel through multiple time zones and a longer season, I highly doubt he can start in the rotation for a full season.

Don’t forget the Mets. Cohen could just give the biggest offer over even the Dodgers. It only depends on if Sasaki wants to go to the Dodgers, or wants the most money.
Sasaki is not good enough to replace Karshow, who is one of the best pitchers in MLB history, but I believe he is a good alternative for Karshow in case he retires. In terms of marketing perception, he is another player who generates bucks. And LA is the best place for its perception. So he should come to the Dodgers.

It's a no-brainer he's going to the Dodgers. Plus he probably doesn't want a huge contract like Yamamoto's because everybody will expect him to hit a thousand from the get-go. Go the Ohtani way and have a little room to adapt.

Send Michael Grove to Japan and he will put up numbers like Sasaki did in Japan. You had said that Bauer's numbers in Japan were good because of the dead ball era, which is the same reason why Yamamoto benefited with great numbers. Yamamoto's fastball is getting slaughtered by real MLB hitters. Now, Imanaga has been impressive and he is adapting to MLB pitching every five days. Unlike Yamamoto, we have to cater to him pitching every 6 days.
Yu Darvish is 37 years old and Nomo can be let go in the front office any year. meanwhile, Ohtani signed 10 years and Yamamoto 12 years - I would think Sasaki would want to be with Dodgers. Also, Padres have no money and had to get rid of Soto

This is very risky considering arm injuries with hard throwing pitchers. Ohtani was a hitter too so him coming was a lot different. Plus back then he wouldn’t had been turning down 350 million like Roki would. He turned down likely 150 million
@SilverBored20 Shota will come back to earth eventually. I will always trust a sample size of 1000 innings over 40
@SilverBored20 also the issue with Shota has always been the home run ball. In his last 500 innings in Japan he gave up around 60 home runs to Japanese hitters. S Yamamoto gave up around 12 home runs in his last 500 innings.. in the two games I have seen so far there were probably a combined 6 balls that would’ve been home runs if it wasn’t freezing and the wind blowing in at Wrigley. It’s incredibly hard to hit home runs at Wrigley April-May and incredibly easy June-September. We will see how he does with the long ball when it isn’t so hard to hit home runs
@SilverBored20 it’s been 40 innings… like I said already his BIG issue is the home run ball. He has had at least 6 home run balls saved by the wind at Wrigley so far this year. That’s not gonna happen in the summer
@SilverBored20 he is adjusting to a new league, a new ball a new country etc. also he has had horrible luck with balls in play. Which is why his FIP 2.81, which is top 10 in baseball. .

Sasaki will make more money in endorsements with the Dodgers and the Japanese community around Los Angeles than he would with San Diego so that has to be crucial in his decion making process.

Roki could get revenge on them if they don’t let him leave. He could sign a 400 million deal but in the deal he could request an opt out after 2-3 years. If he opts out and signs a new deal they wouldn’t get a cut
Meantime, what the hell is with this new addition to the bullpen, El. Hernandez? The guy is blowing it whenever he appears. He doesn't belong in the big leagues, much less with the Dodgers, the way he's giving up runs with his terrible pitching performances.

Sure, it would be great for the Dodgers to sign Sasaki, but his move to MLB sounds pretty uncertain at this point--just speculation as to when. What the Dodgers and other teams already missed out on was this guy Imanaga, who is absolutely dominating for the Cubs this season. How did he go under the radar for so many teams?
Because Imanaga never been top 10 in NPB and is now 30 years old.
While Yamamoto has three consecutive MVP and couple triple crowns the last years, a consistent record of being top 10 for half a decade in his young pitching career.
Imanaga is a very good pitcher and may have a breakout season this year, as some Cy Young pitchers can have a down season..that’s great.
But to judge Imanaga a better acquisition than Yamamoto is way too early to conclude.
@@mirikaku5811 I wasn't saying Imanaga was a better acquisition, only that he's had a spectacular start to his first season in MLB. If he continues anything like he's started, his signing was an absolute steal for the Cubs. But as you say, he's considerably older than Yamamoto, so he may not have that many great years ahead, though even that is uncertain. Look at what the older Yu Darvish is doing this season.

He maybe an extremely talented player. But he gets injuries too often. I believe he is too fragile and cannot keep up with schedules and travels in MLB.
