I agree with u at a certain point, definitely every voice is different and needs and specific treatment in the mix, but a preset does actually helps as a "start point"
Might as well make your own preset with the basic stock plugins. Been making music for years never needed a preset, start all my projects from scratch. No good reason to waste money.
I got a free vocal preset, but through over the course of 2 years, I learned things about music and my own voice enough to where the preset I started from is essentially gone. You don't have to be a music genius to listen your own style and taste and adjust to your own liking.
It's not exactly a scam since people sell their actual and "original" preset, they did use that exactly chain they're selling; BUT the thing is like you said, everyone vocals are different, and even the levels does a huge difference for the sound, like if you have a preset with a compressor and the threshold of it its in like -8db and your vocal isn't hitting -8db yet, the compressor will simply be doing nothing. so that's why you just at least learn how to mix and master if you can't afford paying for a professional eng.
Yeah well if the artist’s voice sound like that artist, you use the same mic and outboard gear, and set to the same levels, then you can achieve a pretty close emulation of someone’s sound.

i disagree hard !!! Preset is a easy way to just drag and drop for new beginners that dont want to put much time in learning and just want to sing and there are alot free presets out there
