I've owned my FNX-45 Tactical for over a year with over 4,000 rounds put through it, and it is the BOSS at EVERYTHING! It is my edc and never regretted paying the price! No 45 cal will compare, I assure you!
I bought one about 2 months ago have about 400 rounds through it so far....... Love this gun if you have any doubts forget them go buy one the thing is a tac driver
I finally hit the 3K mark the other day. At around 1K I put an RMR on it. I’ve had a handful of jams so far, mostly In my opinion due to ammo. I’m really thinking of buying another, I think it’s the most durable gun in my collection. I’ve water tested it, and really put it through its paces when I took it on a hunting trip. My friends and I probably put 800 rounds through it over the course of that weekend. Definitely my favorite purchase.
It is the best home defense gun you can get, while so many are quick to buy a cut down AR 15, short barrel rifle, this is so much better because for inside, you want a silencer for sure for hearing protection, communicating with others, and most importantly, flash protection, in one shot, you can blind yourself and then what will you do. You need a suppressed gun at night, indoors, and this is the gun. 16 rounds of .45 is man stopping power without going through to the next door apartment. This gun always goes bang. And when it's suppressed, the recoil is nothing, your follow up shots will be right there as fast as you can pull the trigger. It's worth every penny. FN is my favorite gun company. They are below the radar to many, but not to the military, they love FN's and so do I.
That thing is a beast! On a leg holster with a pouch for the silencer and light combined with a SCAR Heavy you'd be the poshest guy on the battlefield!
Hot 45 super suppressed , no modifications needed, cycles nicely without the piston in an obsidian 45. Worked up slowly until the slide locked back when empty. 460 Rowland power may be light for a charging rhino , all others need not apply.
Talking about price, this pistol gets compared to the H&K a lot. But the H&K costs around the same without a slide cut for an optic, without the tritium sights, without a threaded barrel and it's not ambidextrous. You can add all of that in there with aftermarket parts, but by the time it's all said and done, you could've bought two of the FNs. Just something to consider if you're still trying to decide. BUT it's your money and your choice and you really can't let anyone take that from you. As long as you're shooting, I'm happy with it.
Definitely worth the price, considering you'll pay up to $2000 or more for any other .45, Colt or S&W and those only come with 2, not 3, 8 round mags, not 15 round ones. This gun is ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT!
The EAA SAR K2 is a 45 that comes with 15 round mags in a slightly thinner frame. I have both the K2 and FNX, preferring the FNX for many reasons but it is another 15 round 45 option out there for less.
Well done review of the FNX Tactical. I went with the USP Tactical 45, nothing wrong with FN they make quality firearms, just got such a good deal on the H&K that I couldn't pass it up.
Jus purchased mine i fell in love with it when I first seen it. My knees got week. But wasn't able to shoot until a week later at the range. MAN WHEN I TELL YOU IT WAS A AMAZING 👏 🙌 😍 👌. I felt chills down my spine. Like many others mention you have to change ur sights. I had no issues with the accuracy.
I have this in black and put an RMR on it. I carry it concealed in the AIWB position EVERY day, without any problem OR discomfort (and I'm "not slender"... LOL) I've never understood why people say you can't conceal carry this gun.
James Custard I bought one from Powell Custom Holsters, and carry it in the AIWB position ever day. Right now I'm looking at getting either a T5 Custom Kydex Hitchhiker, or a T-Rex Sidecar... Because they both have a Mag carrier as part of the holster, and when you carry it in the AIWB position it balances it very well
Ultimately, it will come from your body type and the clothes you wear. I CCW'd a full size USP for years, no issue. I tend to wear clothes that are conducive to CCW anyways.
I love how it looks! 15 rounds of 45 is awesome! I have big hands, so gripping it should be no problem. For that price, the trigger should be as good as the Sig, though.
Great video, thanks👍 I bought the standard model without threaded barrel and with the iron sights only. But Mid West Gun works sells Parts for FN guns. You can buy the entire slide from them. But I decided to just buy the threaded barrel. I really like my FNX-45. I just wish FN had an option to change to a cocked and locked only safety without the decocker. So it would operate like a 1911's safety. You can carry it cocked and locked but it's too easy to decock it instead. The HK USP has safety options you can buy to make the safety work like a 1911. I talked to the FN representative at the NRA annual show and asked him if they would offer an option for the FNX-45. He said no chance. Otherwise I really like the gun. Cheers
Have owned mine for about 6 months, makes all my other guns seem wanting. If the SHTF this is the gun I will have in my hand. Its as accurate as any of my sigs at 30yds. Worth every dime.
Great gun! Bought mine three weeks ago. Have a DeltaPoint Pro mounted on it. Shoots like a dream. I have various Glocks, Springfield Armory, Kahr and S&W pistols. This one is the nicest shooting of them all. Don't hesitate to buy
just bought one, wow, FN will send you a light for free till the end of the month. the XD 45 comes with 13 round mags, P227 with 14. great gun, thanks for this review
Every gun that someone buys and likes becomes their new favorite gun. Go to any RUclips video about a firearm that doesn't blow up in your hand and you'll see people raving about it. That's just how it is. But I can attest to the fact that my affection for this firearm is not mere infatuation. I wanted a suppressed .45, and since the 1911 is my favorite .45, I wanted a suppressed 1911. However, shooting both side by side, it's clear that the FNX was made for suppression, while the 1911 wasn't. There are a myriad of differences that I won't get into, but believe me for simplicity's sake: if you want a suppressed .45 handgun, this is the gun that will leave you smiling the most.
Just in case you were interested, you can put baseplate extensions like the ones from Taran Tactical on the Glock 21/41 and get 17+1 rounds. They're expensive though
I shoot 45 quite a bit and had a bit of a learning curve with this gun. It took me a couple of hundred rounds to get the hang of it, but now I'm pretty good with it.
Saving up my coin now for one. In .45acp I own two 1911s and while they're great, I happened to rent an FN45 at the range one day and I just didn't want to put it down.
I have the reg FN 45 in black. Just got the FNX45 tactical in FDE. Best 45 on market. Only 45 comes close is Mark 23. My GL21 30 doesn’t come close. My spr 45 tac. Not close. My 1911s can’t compare different platform. I also picked my p320 XR compact. That a great weapon also.
I have the regular FNX45 model and it is amazing. It did have an issue with not firing in double action when it was hot, but FN took care of it no questions asked and it runs perfect now. Nothing compares to what it offers.
Love this pistol. With a Surefire light, and a Trijicon duel illumination RMR, this is my standard bedside, along with a few other goodies within bump in the night reach (Mossberg 590A1 12 gauge Shockwave, and a CZ Scorpion).
Actually not as heavy as you would think when empty, but a heavy gun when fully loaded and doesn't kick much at all. I'm more accurate with my fnx 45 tac than any of my 1911, glock, or vp9. Just my opinion, but a red dot isn't needed.
Also a good gun for wilderness carry, just swap my Underwood Ammo Extreme Defender for my Underwood Ammo Extreme Penetrator. And have shot it in PPC and IDPA (light jacket hides it), you do your part and it does it's part. Did a 25 cent trigger job to smooth it out like I do on all my new guns. A lot of fun!
Positive for me. Just about everything! It’s hefty, but the way it’s designed, the recoil is so much softer than I imagined. Still not as soft as my M9 but you can’t compare the two as the FN is polymer framed and shooting a far heavier round. The ergo etc are all comfortable and it’s really easy to hold and get on target. Also, despite the price, what you get is a lot of quality. The ambi controls for ALL controls is a huge plus. The options in the bag, different back straps and mounts plates all in one go is a huge saving in the pocket books. Ohh, can’t forget that excellent Trijicon suppressor height night sight! It is sexy! As some one said, you can get the HK for the same price but if you want ambi controls, threaded barrel, mounts, and 15 round mags, the price will jump A LOT so you get what you pay for! Negatives: the weight! It is HeeeeeAaaaVvvvvY! I want to put a nice light and red dot on this but after hold it for just 15 minutes, the weight starts to wear on you! I guess it had to since it’s designed to handle a huge round and 15 round mag. But yeah, I’m going to get a cheap light for bed side use. It’s not gonna even be used at the range to save the weight. Same with the red dot. I’m thinking just forgoing the red dot cause of the weight issue. The Trijicon sights are plenty good enough. Speaking of the sights, it’s definitely something to get use too. Since it’s suppressor height, the first 15 rounds I shot went all over cause I was looking down like a normal sight. Once I got used to it and looking up, it was weird at first, I shot some really nice groupings. That’s all the negatives I have.
I have almost the same set up... heat up the holster with a blow dryer for a min slide the gun in then spray it with cold water thats what i did and now my holster works great not so stiff to where it will pull my pants up but just enough to where if im jumping it wont fall out.. nice review.
This gun was designed for military trials, it better not be cheaped (Glocked) out. Springfield XDM has a suppressor ready .45 that is thinner and lighter holds 13 rounds for under $600.
I got on of this in black. I'm shooting bulleyes from 75ft. Also very easy to shoot the gun with left or right hand. The recoil is so mild that my friend calling it a 9mm every time he's shooting at.
Great video and review man. I had pretty much decided on purchasing one, but this sealed the deal for me. Thanks for pointing out the positives as well as the negatives.
Blacked out suppressor sights would help you in a BIG way. With the night sights, and the Red Dot, you are looking at 4 focal planes, rear, red dot, front, target. With blacked out sights you should only have ONE focal plane, the Target, with the Dot superimposed on that target. The night sights just make things much too busy for that setup. This is why I love the Trijicon RMR Type 2 HRS. It is completely self adjusting to the available light, and it happens so fast you can't even tell it happened. In pitch darkness the dot is very faint, perfect for low light. In bright sunlight it's instantly bright. Kick on your 1000 lumen weapon light and it see's that and compensates. It don't get better than Trijicon Type 2.
This has always been one of those guns I've wanted, but never got around to it for whatever reason. It's a pistol that gives you everything you want. I've had to drift plenty of pistol sights left/right which is very simple to do. As for the up/down, I just learn to live with it.
This pistol really looks like it has set a new standard for .45 acp pistols. 15 round capacity makes it competitive with 9 mm high capacity pistols. The only downside I can see is it's size makes it impossible to conceal carry. It's more of a home or field gun.
Don't heat it up a bunch, but put you gun in that holster. Take a hair dryer, and slowly heat it with the gun in. Should relieve some tension. when you get it where you like it you should put it in the freezer to cool it quickly and stop the kydex from relaxing to much.
have had my fn-9c for a bit now, and have been checking this 45 TAC out since having the 9c....will more than likely keep my 9c for carry , but this is EXACTLY how I've been dreaming to set up my 45 when I get it....awesome review!!! def my go to home defense gun to purchase and dress by the end of summer!!!!
I've had mine for a few years now and find it to run and kick like a 9mm. It feeds everything I feed it and an easy carry. I run it just the way it came, no mods, just as it was. I'd buy another if were able to but CT laws have changed and stopped me from buying another.
I was lucky, Now we can't buy any rifle the looks like an assault weapon, no more than 10 rounds pistol or rifle, no threaded barrels, a permit is needed to buy ammo, rifle, shotgun, pistol, when going to the range with a rifle, shotgun is must be in a locked case of a lock on weapon. This is just a few here in CT.
I have a few AR's AK's and my wife has a few, we've had them before the ban. All hit the fan after Sandy Hook, the Sandy Crooks started a big stink and made millions of dollars and didn't have to show what they did with it or even kept it. The more stink they made to more money they made and we lost a big part of our rights.
I went with a hk tactical usp 45 and finally got a trijicon rmr and a tlr 1 installed... now I'm looking into some high night sights as well as a suppressor
Nice review. You have your FNX set up exactly the same as mine down to the KT holster. I have noticed the holster is quite snug also, but the double mag pouch I got from them is loose as hell, even after being tightened as much as it could be. These are great pistols.
You made a wise choice! I bought the FNX-45 because I’m a lefty and loved the totally ambidextrous controls. Unfortunately for me the mag release button is poorly shaped and tends to stick making left handed mag changes an iffy situation. I’ve attempted contact FN about this several times in the week since I purchased this but all all I’ve gotten is crickets, so I’m taking it back to the store and putting it on consignment. I’ll stick with my Glocks and Caniks, they were half the price and worked correctly right out of the box. The HK looks nice to but my hands are slightly small and the HK is just a wee bit to big to get a good grip, but you’ve got a solid proven pistol there!
Kydex holster makers all seem to make their rigs too tight. I'm more fussy than you about the scratches (drives me nuts). Try running a silicone cloth through it thoroughly before using and try it. That often helps. What's your little dog's name? Good vid - thanks.
Morgan.. I agree! All these people talking about Nighthawk and this and that and Ferraris and Lamborghinis have more than likely never shot them. The tight retention and the amount of rounds you need to put through any one of those guns before you can collectively say I can carry this pistol and shoot it without having a misfire, Jam, malfunction is far more than the FNX 45 tactical. Out of the box as is this polymer gun 45 is the best that exists and any of you RUclips knowledgeable Geniuses can say whatever you want but put one of these in your hands when the zombies come or whenever the end of the world apocalypse happens and have your Nighthawk and I'll have this gun and we'll see who ends up on top
All my FN handguns hold right on the dot. I had to get used to that when shooting them. From my compact to the tac 45, the hold is all the same right on. Nice review brotha!
Mine in black fits snug on my nightstand with an AAC Ti-Rant and red dot, cocked and locked. In case you're wondering about the volume of the Ti-Rant without hearing protection: it's 109db, considered "hearing safe". But it's loud, like a phone book slamming onto the kitchen table. Nothing like a fucking naked .45 in a bedroom though. :)
Man I wanted to love this gun..try dropping the mag when its under 40 degrees Fahrenheit, now look at how the backstrap is held in place, now take the mag out and squeeze the sides of the grip..now put the gun back on the counter and save yourself the hassle of trying to resell it like I did..little hint... took forever and lost money (wonder why)
Well, went yesterday to get a new one, coyote tan….Store price $1,200 new, two mags. However, three days ago, someone sold a black one, used and the store had it for $950, two mags! I want the tan one but everyone at the store was going, get the black one! I compared the contents on both. Since the used one still has everything, I can’t justify the extra $200 so got the used black one! Put 35 rounds down to test it out. Had 8 FTE’s. Turned out the gun was not only dirty, but was drier than 20 year old dried out white bones! So yeah, took it home and broke out my cleaning kit and cleaned up and lubed it up real good. Should solve that problem! EDIT: the sweaty hand problem. You tell me! As a guy with what seems to be a genetic defect that see what seems to be 80% of the sweat go through his hands, those aggressive diamond grips are a life saver! First time I held it, I wanted to sand some of that off. But the more I held it, the more I got used to it, especially when my hands started to sweat like Niagara Falls, it really help to channel the sweat away and dig in and help with grip! Important when you are shooting a .45/11.43mm round and the recoil is still there even if with Tac-45, the recoil isn’t nearly as bad.
I say no: Dinky short slide rails Polymer frame Sub par trigger You don't like the sights, Glock would be better. And Cost. Give me for the same price my new old stock Sig Sauer P227 Elite with Full Length alloy frame slide rails. Superior trigger and simple fire control mechanical parts that are common to all metal P2XX Sigs. Excellent Premium Review.
Just bought the 45 tactical however it takes 10 days even with a conceal carry. I was able to shoot this gun a couple years ago at the range and was extremely comfortable with this gun. Im a large guy so this gun fits my hands perfectly. I was asked by my friends can you really tell the difference between the the FNX or a cheaper gun. I said its like shooting a Benelli super black eagle compared to a Remington 1187. Both shoot just fine but one feels way more mechanical than the other. Anyway loved the video and can't wait to shoot more
Good review and it is an excellent gun IMO. Mine has been fantastic out of the box, I've got the RMR and light on it, must do's for this one. I was going to say, the EAA SAR K2 45 ACP is 15+1 and feels slightly smaller/thinner than the FNX-45 but it's not polymer either.
I've owned my FNX-45 Tactical for over a year with over 4,000 rounds put through it, and it is the BOSS at EVERYTHING! It is my edc and never regretted paying the price! No 45 cal will compare, I assure you!

This & the Benelli m4 are my dream guns
Very controllable recoil. Great second shot follow up.
This gun was designed for military trials, it better not be cheaped (Glocked) out. Springfield XDM has a suppressor ready .45 that is thinner and lighter holds 13 rounds for under $600.
Bigbore yes they do but it's a whole different animal. I like them both but I own the FNX
I don't care how big that gun is I would carry it everywhere. That gun remind me of the Tesla. Top of the line.
sigmaoverglocks I have carried mine, 4 years strong EVERY DAY. Just like any gun, you learn to dress around it.
sigmaoverglocks That gun looks awesome for home defense but seems a bit ridiculous to carry this concealed. It's huge.
Tesla is not top of the line
I got on of this in black. I'm shooting bulleyes from 75ft. Also very easy to shoot the gun with left or right hand. The recoil is so mild that my friend calling it a 9mm every time he's shooting at.
Great video and review man. I had pretty much decided on purchasing one, but this sealed the deal for me. Thanks for pointing out the positives as well as the negatives.
+Shane Magoon No problem man. They are at a great price now!
I just bought a fnx non tactical and I love it a great shooter with a 6 o’clock hold
This is the first hegshot review I like. Great review!
This has always been one of those guns I've wanted, but never got around to it for whatever reason. It's a pistol that gives you everything you want.
I've had to drift plenty of pistol sights left/right which is very simple to do. As for the up/down, I just learn to live with it.
The holster will wear in. You can also sand the inside with 100 grit sand paper. I just sold my Colt to buy one of these in black.
This pistol really looks like it has set a new standard for .45 acp pistols. 15 round capacity makes it competitive with 9 mm high capacity pistols. The only downside I can see is it's size makes it impossible to conceal carry. It's more of a home or field gun.
I have one of these.. same color too. I like it a lot. Unfortunately, I can't get a suppressor for it since I'm in NJ
He'll yea, I'd trade a couple to have one of these.
The impact is a lot louder than the weapon's report. Always makes me giggle when shooting with cans. Awesome video!
They had this FNX 45 at the range with the optic....It shoots smooth guys....Great pistol!!
this is my 2nd choice after the HK USP 45 Tac
+buzzsah That sucks. So you were able to get the 15 round mags before the communist took over?
I was lucky, Now we can't buy any rifle the looks like an assault weapon, no more than 10 rounds pistol or rifle, no threaded barrels, a permit is needed to buy ammo, rifle, shotgun, pistol, when going to the range with a rifle, shotgun is must be in a locked case of a lock on weapon. This is just a few here in CT.
buzzsah I'd get a garand then. Or an M1a with the limited mags. I'm getting ready to trade my socom for one of these handguns
It's a great firearm, I carry mine concealed everyday.
This is my EDC with a light and everything. Great gun!
I went with a hk tactical usp 45 and finally got a trijicon rmr and a tlr 1 installed... now I'm looking into some high night sights as well as a suppressor
+PewPew Life Awesome setup brother
Nice review. You have your FNX set up exactly the same as mine down to the KT holster. I have noticed the holster is quite snug also, but the double mag pouch I got from them is loose as hell, even after being tightened as much as it could be. These are great pistols.
I went with an H&K USP Tactical 45.
The HK looks nice to but my hands are slightly small and the HK is just a wee bit to big to get a good grip, but you’ve got a solid proven pistol there!
yes... I have been looking for a good Zombie 45
Ohsnapzdawg this the best
That gun would be super dope if they made a steel frame model!✊🏽
They do about $300
I lost the thread protector on mine the first time I took it to the range.
Kydex holster makers all seem to make their rigs too tight. I'm more fussy than you about the scratches (drives me nuts). Try running a silicone cloth through it thoroughly before using and try it. That often helps. What's your little dog's name? Good vid - thanks.
Justin, youre here! :) hows your custom nighthawk?
If you buy a Ferrari pistol don't put a Honda sight on it...nuff said!
Morgan Mansfield keep hatin on honda.
At the end the day its just a dot on a target. As long as it does that its all good. Besides, theyre all made in China
Angus MacGOYver this is a Ferrari, a nighthawk (or comparable gun) is a Bugatti 🤷♂️
Morgan..
Why the hell is the tactical version like $600 more than the FN 45?
Love my FNX tactical, but that first double action shot feels like the gun is never gonna fire I'm still not used to it
Just bought one. Got an Osprey ordered, so in a year or so it’ll be complete 😂
Nice! I got a Black one and have a Rugged Obsidian 45 in jail
Just got mine. Came with a nice gcode paddle holster fitted to a TLR 7. Trying to sell holster and light. Interested? I’m a lefty....
Thanks for taking your time to review this weapon. I appreciate your thoroughness.
+wbball15 No problem
I went with the fnx 9 for conceal carry. Added some night sights now it's my everyday carry.
All my FN handguns hold right on the dot. I had to get used to that when shooting them. From my compact to the tac 45, the hold is all the same right on. Nice review brotha!
+DJBAcHIGU Thanks man
Hegshot87 glock 19 Gen 4 came with three 15 round mags
William Chancey yes and the glock 19 holds 9mm rounds the fnx holds 45 acp rounds
Longer barrel = more accurate. Facts. This thing splits hairs
Nice review Hegshot. More importantly, congrats on getting that awesome gun. Take care yourself and thanks for sharing.
+Bill Blake Thanks man
Great gun and review happy holidays to u and your family
+Dexter Norman Thanks. You too man!
I first saw this gun in the movie "Den of Theives". Big Nicks gun. It is definitely my next gun
Yeah...this gun is on my list but I believe I will bump it up to the number 1 spot. The "next" spot.
Gen 3 robar Glock 21 with an osprey 45 gen 2 and taran tactical +4 round base plates are what I have
Awesome vid.. I must say, the Mrs. handled tht beast like a BOSS!!!!
+Prime Time Lol I agree
Stick between the fnx 45t and the 545 tactical. Definitely leaning more towards the fnx, but the 18+1 mag on the 545 is very tempting 😂
The next couple days I'm thinking about getting one
I traded my grandsons soul for one
Dan Spindel he was probably a ginger and didn't have one anyway. Good trade. Haha
Dan Spindel, you need a better job.
Worth it! 😂😂
Confound your toll, troll!
Damn... good deal!!! 👍
if you are close to columbia have you heard anything about FN opening their own store? i met a guy that worked for them and sed it was in the works
I bought this weapon, and it's cousin the FNX-45 non-tactical. Why buy one gun when you can buy two.
David Gouin that's the spirit!
Old post but the gun is solid. It hits where you aim it.
I love mine. Puts my ruger p345 KR to shame. And I thought that was t possible. But. Alas. This thing is a 1911 killer
I say no:
Dinky short slide rails
Polymer frame
Sub par trigger
You don't like the sights, Glock would be better.
And Cost.
Give me for the same price my new old stock Sig Sauer P227 Elite with Full Length alloy frame slide rails. Superior trigger and simple fire control mechanical parts that are common to all metal P2XX Sigs.
Excellent Premium Review.
Got mine Tuesday.. taking it out today..
Definitely getting one... or two.
Anything worth owning is worth owning two or more of.
para-ord p-14 also had 13 rd mags.
