  • For this quick tip we will answer the question “How can I copy and paste a sketch in Fusion 360.” We'll break up this answer into two parts:
    1. How to copy sketches onto the clipboard
    2. How to paste them into a new or existing sketch
To copy a sketch or any sketch elements onto the Fusion 360 clipboard is very easy, and there are multiple ways of doing it. First, you can select the sketch entities in the graphics window using either a window select or holding CTRL while selecting the sketch entities you want to copy.
You can also select the sketches in the browser tree or the timeline. Notice that when selecting your sketches, you don’t have to limit it to sketch entities in only one sketch. You can copy from multiple sketches and you don’t even need to be in a sketch to use the copy command.
After you have selected the sketches or sketch entities, you want either right-click and select Copy or hold down CTRL + C on your keyboard. To paste these sketches into a new sketch, you first must either enter an existing sketch or start a new sketch. If you try and paste without being in a sketch nothing will happen. Once you are in a sketch either right-click and select paste, or hold down CTRL + V on your keyboard.

The best part is that apparently this is one of the most intuitive CADs of the bunch and from my limited experience, they're correct.
It's both impressive how quickly I can whip up a usable design and ridiculously frustrating how just trying to do something simple like orbit the camera, move a set of sketches or copy and paste something avoids the path of least resistance in favor of forcing you to go through a very specific set of steps to achieve what can be done in far easier ways.
They give you a damn list of everything selectable but instead of just being able to move multiple sketches, you have to awkwardly attempt to position the camera perfectly and press on it. It's insane.

ABSOLUTE PROPS! I'm here today trying to do the same - SMDH! Is this a _paid version feature_??
...And for extra credit the object I'm creating has a SLOPED (from front to back) upper surface - I'll be trying to figure that out next (I may have to create sloped line and use that to cut the extruded body - I guess I'll find out after figuring this out...

It seems to depend on how you select. Area selecting the sketch objects (while editing the sketch) seems to work, and 'copy cntrl+C' shows up, whereas just clicking on a part of the sketch to highlight it does not.

This straight up doesn't work for me.
Move/copy was a bad feature change. Why you guys took away simple copy/paste capabilities is mind boggling and has made what should be the simplest, most trivial task extremely complicated.
I literally cannot figure out how to simply copy a sketch or portion of a sketch, and have been scouring the forums and the general internet for a half hour. I'm actually completely blocked by this and am going to have to hand-copy a sketch. Please post an update on how to do this!!!

Hi there! I'm having the same problem. There's no option to copy when you right-click, and Ctrl+C/V doesn't work. Here's what I tested out:
    1. Enter the sketch mode of the sketch you want to copy.
    2. Instead of selecting the face of the sketch, select the outline of it (so you will see the lines highlighted, not the face).
    3. Now you can right-click and see the copy option, and Ctrl+C will work too.
    4. And then when you open a new sketch and right-click, you can see the paste option.

I found the solution. While selecting a sketch to be copied make sure no bodies are selected along with the sketch. Uncheck the "eye" icon for every body associated with the sketch. Then open the sketch, select all elements and right click on the selection. Use copy option from the list or Ctrl-C. Click "Finish sketch". Open a new sketch, right click and choose "paste" or Ctrl-V. Please, note that only one sketch can be copied at a time and the sketch must be open. Selecting the sketches in the browser tree or the timeline does nor work.

I got the message I can't copy from a sketch I am not currently modifying. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V simply doesn't work and right click doesn't show the Copy option at all. Instead I am only allowed to use the complex Move/copy tool instead and can only copy within the Sketch I am modifying. Is it because I have a student version?

to anyone having issues with this, i found a solution, to copy the sketch, you must do it while editing the sketch, do this by going to the sketch in the tree or somewhere else and click 'edit sketch' after, select the sketch you want and right click copy, you can then paste it while you are editing that sketch!!

After much struggling I discovered the procedure. Lets say you want to copy from Sketch 1 to Sketch 2...
Select sketch 1 and select "Edit Sketch".
Select items you want, could be all of it, and right click "Copy" or use CTRL C (Not "Move/Copy")
    "Finish Sketch" 1.
    Create or edit Sketch 2.
Right click and select "Paste" or CTRL V.
Note you must be editing Sketch 1 to get the copy menu.

hello , just a question is there some improvement planned for fusion it terms of ergonomy , simple things like when you select some edges , do a fillet ..if you cancel your fillet you have to reselect edges one by one instead of keeping your selection , it's just a waste of time ,or a "picck the shortest path function "like in blender ..you select an edge .;hold ctrl and pick an edge further it will select all the edges in between ,or selecting edge loop with doucle click , or scale from the center without putting a pivot point , like any 3d software , and option to quickly flip a mesh , a quick symmetry based of the pivot point ,those simple things would make fusion better

  • @blzs_perger

For anyone wondering how to do it cause this video doesn't help at all:
Edit your sketch that you want to copy.
Select the parts you want to copy
    Right click copy
    Finish sketch
    Edit the new sketch
    Paste
You will have to redo ALL the constraints and dimensions because the program doesn't see them as constraints for some reason, even if you copy everything

Correct, some constraints, like a coincident constraint to the origin won't be copied but many of the constraints will be. For example if you have two concentric circles that are constrained to the origin the concentric constraint will be copied but it will not be constrained to the origin.
