It's hard to hide what this car really is. But the Dynomax Ultraflo mufflers really cleaned up the sound. On the highway and in town, there's very little drone and it's much easier to cruise without raising the dead.
Had a 67 Barracuda Formula S FB 383 Commando with the 3 inch Dynomax Dual Exhaust with the Ultra Flow mufflers and X pipe on it, best sounding mufflers out there, sounded absolutely insane,,
No comparison Flowmasters most time were just loud and obnoxious like a Cowboys truck. Those Ultra flow Mufflers there pure class and power and smoothness and no blah blah blah it's just Zoom lopody lopody.
@mattsauces They don't call them Dronemasters for the heck of it. All the flow and dyno charts I have seen show that just about every other muffler out flows and out performs the Flowmasters. All flowmasters do is make more noise. At this point, I can't say that there has been a power increase. The engine seems to run better with the "pull" beginning about 200 rpm lower in the power band. The X pipe maybe the reason for this. It does equal out the pulses of the exhaust.
Good sound! I have a 71 Chevelle Malibu with orginal motor hoping to rebuild it someday other than that, motor might have turned twice but boy that engine is a trooper almost afraid to have someone touch it. I'm no mechanic but give my 350 lots of tlc. Looking to replace the exhaust thanks for vid!
I didn't like it all that much at first either. But it grows on you. Once you see that everyone and his brother has a black interior, it's nice to see a car that's a little different. Plus it's the born with interior, so if it dies with me, it will always be saddle tan. It was also the color of the interior first featured by Chevrolet in their Chevelle advertisements of the time.
I reused the tail pipes. They were on the car when I bought long ago. They are probably from a kit, but the muffler shop re bent them to get them to fit a little better. They are 3 inch pipes over the axels,
I had the Flowmaster race bullets due to clearance issues and it was just like being at the track, too damn loud. I went with the Dynomax Ultra Flo Welded stainless steel rounds and it sounds much better. Your hydraulic roller cam sounds like a solid lifter roller, very aggressive. I like the Isky and Crane myself, both are great brands but now since hearing your cam, Lunati is another favorite.
@TitaniumRE Thanks for that info...I'm going to hit some of those up soon. Been a long time since I've been out cruising or to shows. Hope to see you at one sometime...keep in touch!
@mattsauces Check out all the muffler comparisons and flow chart as well as dyno tests on mufflers. You'll come to the conclusion that just about any muffler will out perform the FM's. Every test shows an HP increase of 5 to 18 hp's. You may not feel that in the seat of your pants, but it will show up as lower Et's.
lol at the 396 being too slow we had a #'s matching 67 396 ss with long tuves and flowmasters stock eceryrhing else besides 355's and with the lower gears it still pulled like a machine it definetly wasnt fast yoy are right but it was a hell of alot fun
@69chevelless3964spd Nope . Born in Canada, L34 396 4 speed. It was too slow. Now has 70 dated 512 block and oval port heads with a killer port job. 10.5:1 Compression, premium pump gas, Lunati Cam plus a bunch of secrets. Still feel the need for speed. The original engine and trans are stored. One day they'll go back in the car. Now I can play go fast without hurting the original engine. If I blow this one, it's no big deal.
@dutchboy25al Fontana has 2 that I know of. There is 1 on the 1st Friday of the month on Sierra and Spring St. just north of Arrow. The other is the 2nd Sat. of the month at Rotolo Chevrolet.
Dutch Max Headwork. Hate the name, a friend picked it after I ported a set of heads for him. He picked up quite a bit of horsepower and was pretty impressed. In my younger days I worked in a shop that had a flow bench and I learned a few tricks.
@challenger706 10:7....Imagine that! Me too. If you like the Flowmaster sound, check out their 50 series in Stainless steel, 3 inh for a Big block. I wanted to try something different....I like these, guess I'll never get a chance to try others on this car. I'm sure these will outlast the car. Guess I'll have to build another car!!!
Did he have a big selection of dynomax mufflers there ? I'm about to put Patriot headers on my 69 f250 390 I'm looking at super turbo , ultraflow x or ultraflow I'm about 40 miles west of Fontana
Did you feel any bit of a power difference after the swap. I have a 68 with 40's and i heard they dont flow good at all. I also cant stand the drone i get a certain RPMs.
Both x pipes and h pipes will quiet your exhaust a bit.www.carid.com/articles/are-x-pipes-and-h-pipes-better-than-straight-pipes-on-dual-exhaust-systems.html
That's why I want X-pipe for smoothness and quietness. If I want it loud I will uncap it at the track. I do not want my street car sounding like a Cowboys truck with glass packs loud and slow. I want my exhaust smooth and quiet I want your engine. Which X pipe did you put on that one I know there's a bunch of different ones?
@TitaniumRE Hi neighbor...The restore has been a life long project of mine. I do almost all the work myself. Do you go to any local car shows? Been looking to get back out. Haven't been in a while. The camera makes the car look weird. Everything looks less wide and bunched up in the middle. Guessing it's the aspect ratio. Gonna try to fix it soon.
hey, hey now, keep it down, your going to hurt the feelings of all the prius owners in California because they won't be able to hear that hum from their shitty battery powered hippie mobiles, lol, nice Chevelle bub!
YES, Born in Canada as a SS 396, Original engine resides on a pallet in the garage. Built this engine and put on the 454 emblems. So it is not a ls6 or ls5 car.
You're the only guy on youtube that knows how to rev their classic chevy
Yeah I hate when they're idled too low I wanna hear that top end working 💪 like a well oil machine
By far the best sounding Chevelle I’ve ever heard
It's hard to hide what this car really is. But the Dynomax Ultraflo mufflers really cleaned up the sound. On the highway and in town, there's very little drone and it's much easier to cruise without raising the dead.
Hope I'm lucky enough to get a 70 Chevelle SS one day and restore it in and out. That's a dream project for me.
Had a 67 Barracuda Formula S FB 383 Commando with the 3 inch Dynomax Dual Exhaust with the Ultra Flow mufflers and X pipe on it, best sounding mufflers out there, sounded absolutely insane,,
That. Sounds. Perfect.
That car is sick! and sounds awesome! Didn't turn down the volume on my SkullCandy studio head phones and nearly hurt myself..
They sound great on high compression motors such as this!
Well, that pretty much made my mind up. Dynomax UltraFlow's are going onmy '70 SS454. Great looking and sounding ride!
best sound and smell in the world muscle car exhaust
Dynomax ultraflows are my favorite mufflers.
Nice ride. Big GM A-body fan! Love them all. Sounds sick!
The sound of engine happiness!
She's a KEEPER!!
Got to love those Chevelles
To build or to buy, 2 completely different numbers. To me, it's priceless.
Dude I've listened to both videos....and it's a toss up. The car sounds badass either way.
Yes, running a 496. It's going to Westech performance for Dyno tuning tomorrow. Really excited! Hope mine sounds as good as yours!
Music to my ears
No comparison Flowmasters most time were just loud and obnoxious like a Cowboys truck. Those Ultra flow Mufflers there pure class and power and smoothness and no blah blah blah it's just Zoom lopody lopody.
Oh yeah, I love the Tan interior. Black is expected...
I love it. There's nothing nothing like american muscle.... Nothing.

DAMN she sounds good!!!
I'm a Mopar guy but that thing sounds intoxicating!

Makes me have to poop. Also makes me want a bag of popcorn.. Sounds clean.

I have the same mufflers on my truck behind a small block. I was wondering what they'd sound like behind the big block I'm building. Sounds healthy
Sounds good!
I just hooked this up to my surround sound and started to cry. Now I am thinking of changing my ring tone from the Mazda 787B to this.....
That sounds fantastic.
That sounds good
@TitaniumRE
Thanks for that info...I'm going to hit some of those up soon. Been a long time since I've been out cruising or to shows. Hope to see you at one sometime...keep in touch!

VERY nice sound!! :)

They deserve to be butt hurt.
Hell yeah
I love it when they get stuck behind me at a light. I can see their eyes tearing up from the fumes...lol
Lol!! I like it when I roll up next to someone at a light. They stare at my 71 Nova like it's something from outer space??!!
Hey Dutch, is that a real LS5 or LS6 car?
nope. born with a 396/350. It's buried in the garage here somewhere. Someday it may go back in. Right now I can still afford to keep tires under it.
MONSTROUS,I WOULD HATE YOU TO BE MY NEIGHBOOR,UNLESS U FIRE THAT BABY AT6AM. PERFECT FOR MY ALARM CLOCK,HEHEHE
Is that a real SS
YES, Born in Canada as a SS 396, Original engine resides on a pallet in the garage. Built this engine and put on the 454 emblems. So it is not a ls6 or ls5 car.
i love the car hate the interior! mines red and im changing it to all black.
I like black better too. I really dislike red. The tan I can live with. Interior is still all factory.
