  • i wanted to test my Flowmasters 943043 against my new Dynomax 17221. I learned on Dragweek 2018 that my car was almost 4 tenths faster with open exhaust. I preferred not to remove the exhaust but that was too much of a change to my ET to ignore.
    Fessler Race Enigines gave me a chance to see what the power difference is. Here are the results of my testing. Unfortunately I was not able to get a decibel comparison.
    The first muffler set used were the flowmasters as run on the car including turndowns.
    The second set used were the Dynomax Ultra flows.
    Special thanks to Craig at Craig's Customs for whittling out some pipes so I could test the dynomax mufflers.
    Flowmaster

    6000 RPM 582 lb ft 665 hp
    6500 RPM 540 lb ft 668 hp

    Wow... That is a huge difference !!!!
    ChokeMasters is what I call them!!! I love the sound... But that is WAY too much power to give up.... I'm running BlackWidow mufflers now... They have the Flowmaster sound but without the drone and powerloss

    The worst flowing Flowmaster has to be 80 series crossover. I literally felt like I lost 10hp on a stock 2000 Trans Am Ws6. I owned that system for 13 months, after that the muffler developed a hole about the size of a quarter. Replaced it with a stainless steel Magnaflow and had awesome results.

    Been trying to tell people for years that Flowmasters are more restrictive. JMO, but I believe Ultra Flows are the best bang for your buck available right now. They're on my big block and soon to be on my daily driver.

    I really do love the sound of my 3.5" flow masters but I believe the Hooker aero chambers I had on it before made more power. Chambered mufflers kill power. If you can't see through it it's killing your power! Nice comparison man. Thanks subbed

      Correct areo chambered are like crapmasters but better

      @badass6.0powerstroke10 Год назад

      I'm sure you lost Power with the Flowmasters, i meant Crap masters, quite possibly the worst performance muffler out there, super restrictive, exhaust flows into a Wall, many better performance Mufflers out there, Dynomax Ultra Flos are nice.

    If you look at construction an offset inlet + outlet on a chambered muffler is going to be far more restrictive for a 700hp engine. Centre in + out would have closed the gap somewhat I reckon but Ultra flows would be less restrictive at high rpm so they going to win on a comparison like this

      I originally bought the offset flowmasters when I ran a mandrel tailpipe that exited in OE location behind the tires. Not sure how much tweaking it would require now.
      I'd say once you creep over 525 it probably starts hindering performance.

    Note to the unaware, This was a test between a straight thru race muffler vs a baffled street muffler. Just sayin.

    • @bure4me
      @bure4me  3 года назад +6

      And yet the "race muffler" is quieter in typical driving rpm. Flowmaster claims "The 'Delta' deflectors generate increased scavenging for better performance and reduced interior sound". They are a good noisy muffler and don't kill to much performance at a 500 hp level. After that people should think about about a better option.

      Both. This cam is a 108 but the cam I was using prior was a 112. The 112 lsa cam made 680 hp but the car never ran like a 680 hp would. The track doesn't lie so I know it was killing power.

    • @bure4me
      @bure4me  3 года назад

      Drone? I have a number videos from in the car driving through the mountains and plains. The wind makes more noise.

    • @sleeper.simulant7327
      @sleeper.simulant7327 2 года назад

      The ultra flow mufflers are packed with a fiberglass layer and mesh layer, drone is essentially non existent with that type of packing. Dynomax also does a turbo style muffler with fiberglass matting which is excellent for a daily application, my brother installed a single one in the mid pipe on his b5 Audi A4 2.8L v6 with no muffler in the back, sounded excellent and had absolutely no drone or rasp, sounded near stock in the cab compared to the super 44 he had on it first which was obnoxiously loud. Nice clean v6 burble with some pops and bangs on decel.

      Dynomax produces a smoother, cleaner tone, where the baffled mufflers offer that poppy brash sound. Love how flowmasters sound on a v8 myself but the dynomax still sounds really good, has less drone, and offers better power gains.
