    DUDE, I have done a test with gorilla glass 3 similar to this. Don't bother smashing it on a plastic table. The force is disbursed over the plastic table. As soon as you put it on concrete pavement and do this, it breaks in one shot...!

    • @maxp4042

      So true. I hate people smashing their phones with hammers on plastic tables. If they want to do it, they must do it right on concrete

      ***** Agreed. I'm only interested in durability tests if the phone is advertised as such. Otherwise, of course the phone will smash if you take a hammer to it. It's pointless and lame.

    I have one of these. I have a simple thin rubber case and no screen protector. Dropped it accidentally in the street screen down. I went back for it just as a Jeep Grand Cherokee ran it over, both wheels on one side. Only damage was to the rubber case.
    My point? You could have asked me before destroying a perfectly good one. I have yet to fend off knife wielding, key throwing, hammer swinging ninjas though so I know that might pose an issue now.

      i know right...i was thinking why but then you wanna know if your phone is durable enough to sustain certain things...like if you drop it on the ground will it stop working

    • @SCComega
      @SCComega 10 лет назад

      I can't say that hitting it with the point of a hammer shows that though... I mean if you're going to do a drop test do a drop test. Don't slam a spike down flat on it's screen, I mean heck, HTC balances their phones so they normally fall on a corner in said drop, so... yeah. They tend to take falls like a boss, dropped my old Nexus One well over a thousand times in 3 years without a single crack on the screen. Beyond that, The hammer isn't doing much good there since it's just overall a completely unrealistic test as far as how pressure would be applied in a drop or accident unless said accident involved a hammer or an ice pick. As for the rest, it should be obvious here as far as things go, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 has a hardness of 7.8 vs Steel's 6 and Aluminum's 5, so it's an obvious guess what gets scratched and what doesn't.

    • @adriennekromah6865
      @adriennekromah6865 10 лет назад

    the build quality of this phone is really pretty amazing. I've had mine for nearly a year and no scratches, dings, or cracked screen. I've had multiple HTC phones over the years and have been impressed with each one. In fact, the only one that I did end up breaking was the DNA, and that was because the screen goes to every edge of the phone. I've dropped my M8 multiple times in a Dot View case, and no damage. Best phone ever!

    5:34 the reason why it's not doing anything is because the table is too bouncy, all the force from the hammer is mostly being distributed throughout the table, not the phone -_-

    • @NathanAmbrose42
      @NathanAmbrose42 10 лет назад +3

      I don't think he's intending it to have as much force as would be applied if he was hammering it on a solid surface like a cement floor. When would you smash a hammer directly down on a phone on a solid surface? However, the pressure he applied, distribution taken into account, may actually happen in real life, which was the goal of the video (until he intentionally tried to break the back and the screen with the hammer). I don't think the bounciness of the table nullifies his point there that the phone is pretty strong.

    Pretty good. But what idiot puts their keys in the same pocket as their phone?? I'm sorry, but keys and pocket knife in my left pocket, phone in my right, wallet in my back. That's it.
    My M8 should be here Wednesday and it seems like it will be a pretty strong phone. Still going to get an Otterbox though. I would like to see this phone dropped though, not smashed with a hammer or scrapped up with a knife or keys. Something that actually might happen.
    I am proud to say that in the 2 years with my DROID 4 I only dropped it once and that was about 2 feet and it landed on a couch. I don't have a scratch on it, only one on the screen protector but that was yesterday and because I am getting a new phone anyways so I don't care anymore. Only reason I am getting rid of it is because the software is dying, slow, and freezing a lot. The scratch was from me smacking it on the table because I was getting pissed at it freezing all of the time lately. It has a case, but nothing serious. Just one for scratches, which clearly didn't work.
    But do a drop test onto carpet, pavement, and wood surfaces if you want a real strength test. As soon as I get my new phone I am going to have fun with my DROID. Maybe do some tests with it myself to see how long it takes to kill it.

    So I upgraded to the m8 from the one x. Love the HTCs, it took a lot to shatter my old screen. But there are still precautions needed. Firstly I am a carpenter and that is a more common hammer, smooth heads are just finishing hammers. But I quite often have nails and whatnot in my pocket and got a really deep scratch in my screen after only a month. Still love the phone but I worry I have a weak point now because of how deep that scratch is. My advice, don't keep you phone in a pocket full of nails.

      Have you tried turning it off and on aga....never mind...

      I've tried and i'm about to just give up on it right now because it seems like i'm going to end up spending a lot just to see if i can get back on. I'd rather spend on getting a new one versus spending on trying to fix with no hope. You know what i mean.

    I have no idea how he was unable to smash this phone with the first hammer hits. I cracked mine simply by dropping it off the counter. The phone was in a case too! Thank god for HTC's one time free screen replacement. I am definitely switching cases and adding a screen protector.

  • @mikahroon

    can i have that phone?

  • @Tonythechief1
    @Tonythechief1 10 лет назад +3

    Yeah, because people on a daily basis take hammers to their phones and intentionally deep scratch the back of their phones with a key or knife. Seriously, it's one thing to do a real situation test of a phone to see how it handles, for example put a phone in your pocket with some keys or coins and see how it takes that, but these kinds of videos are honestly destroying devices for the hell of it, nothing to learn from here. I'm not trying to come off as "just give me that phone if you're gonna destroy it" or anything, it's just literally a useless video.

  • @DjFrexira
    @DjFrexira 10 лет назад

    Good test for durability. None of these simulate real life situations (with exception of the key, maybe) but it does show the durability. Thanks for the content.

      Keys and most other metals aren't a harder material than the screen. But one grain of sand is all it takes to scratch any screen. Also...don't put your phone in your pocket with your keys... ;)

  • @KeeganDent
    @KeeganDent 10 лет назад

    The reason the scratches on the back seem to go away is because you scratched off the aluminum oxide layer, exposing the bare aluminum underneath it. If you give it a few seconds, the exposed aluminum will oxidize and dull slightly to match the rest of the phone again.
