- I got this cedar chest for free from FB marketplace. I have wanted a cedar chest for awhile now since I have nowhere to store my blankets (my husband thinks I'm weird for always wanting a cedar chest 😂). Although the finished product isn't quite what I imagined as the blue doesn't look the same to me as what is on the color swatch, I think I still like how it looks. What do you think?!

I love it. Great vision. You can’t go wrong w/ navy and stain. It’s a beautiful piece
I really like this kind of paint/wood combo with the bookmark grain being highlighted. It is spectacular!
I used the Emerald line a lot and love it. I think if you had used a tinted primer, you would have had a much better experience. Covering white primer with a dark color will almost always result in extra coats in my experience.
I am trying to use the rest of my white primer and then get tinted primer, but even with white primer, using black in house and canvas I've only ever had to do 2 coats with touch ups.
Your work on the piece, priceless. The color, not so much.
Thanks for watching!
Always love seeing wood and paint combos, and you did an excellent job on this! If you are unsure whether it feels like the right shade of blue, you can always go over it with a brown or black wax.
You did a beautiful job on that piece
Thank you! ☺️
Normally I don’t like this type of effect but maybe add a very thin strip of gold gilding within the triangle. That would give it a subtle pop
For colors like red, blue or dark colors, pigments are in a clear base which means that they don’t have as much hiding power as lighter colors which are mixed into a white base. Three coats of paint - minimum - are required. One trick painters use is to tint the primer in the same color to give better coverage and avoid a fourth coat of paint. I think the chest turned out great and you did a fantastic job dealing with all that chipped veneer. 😊
Thank you! I was so surprised since I've used black paint and white primer and I've only ever had to do max 3 coats. I've got some grey primer, I just really want to finish this can of primer first since the lid doesn't work anymore 😂
Beautiful job ,a lot of work,,,,it’s a masculine looking piece,,to me,,,,,if you pick a lighter neutral color,,I think it would lighten up the form of the whole piece and make it less masculine,,give it’s a feminine touch to soften it,,,,,I don’t even know if I would even keep the triangle stain areas,,,,,,I’d like to make it all one nice off white color with some very faint antiquing to bring out the details on the trim pieces,,,that is my dream for the piece,,,a beautiful soft piece to place at the end of the bed to hold blankets and linens,,,,it’s a beautiful old piece,of furniture for sure,,,no matter what ,,you gave it many more years of good use,,,
I was one who was against painting it but I have to say, it turned out lovely and I wouldn't have the experience at replacing veneer either. I do have to start practicing though. I painted a buffet for the same reason and now I'm regretting it. I'm building up the courage to strip it all back and have a go at the drawer veneer that needs attention. If it goes wrong well it's a piece for our house so no biggie. Yeah that coverage was terrible. I think I'd have given up after 3 coats. Lovely colour though. Well done.
Thank you! I would like to try replacing veneer someday but this wasn't a piece I wanted to attempt it on, maybe something a little easier first lol and I was about ready to give up on this paint, I've never had to do so many coats!
You did a great 👍 job! It turned out Gorgeous. To bad it took so many coats. Are you going to use this paint for your cabinets ? Or a melamine type paint ?. Good luck 🤞
Thank you! I think I will still use this paint in a light grey and hopefully 🤞 it won't take as many coat because this was brutal!
I love the stained triangles but not si much the blue, so yeah
Thanks for watching 😊
You did a really good job on this piece. It looks very elegant but I could hardly hear you please raise up the audio
Thanks for watching!
