    People not in direct tax bracket are the ones having angst. They would like their incomes to rise and rise so that they can pay income tax. My dream is to pay personal tax of 1 crore per year as it would automatically mean that my taxable income is around 4 crores.

    Inequality in access doesn't mean only public infrastructure....a big example of inequality in access is access to capital....till the time public sector banks exist and capital markets are underdeveloped, only a few are having access to capital in a capital starved economy....this problem is going to bite us one day or the other

  • @adityanahar4493

    Corruption is symptom and not the actual illness. It's root lies in what and how you will buy with how much amount. Corruption is directly related to the expenditure one could to own basic needs (note basic need is here to be defined as per market, so currently basic need is dining at premium restaurants, owning intnl std premium vehicles, owning premium villas, have education from premium institutions, having worldclass premium Healthcare, etc.). Everyone who becomes babu with govt job, working as white collar job in MNC, businessman doing 1 to 100 for profit, etc.. is doing it.
    Until real basic needs are identified and account for only 20% of ones income this will never get resolved.
    Allow people to travel more spend more domestically, increase basic income for the lowest of the lowest and 90% corruption will automatically go, as Bhartiya mindset is actually savers paradise, not otherwise.

    Mr. Debroy has completely ignored the question of utilization. This may befit a government servant but not an economist.
    No matter how much tax people pay, if they are pilfered by nexus of babus, politicians and cronies then 15, 20 or 55 is merely academic numbers.
    Road is a very good example, while it is true that national highways are being built and renovated the city roads are a series of potholes. This the same in so-called megacities like Mumbai, Gurugram and Bengaluru.

    Not even a ținy fraction of the scholarly, modern books on the shelves behind you is in Hindi or any major Indian vernacular.
    A civilizational country of 1.5 billion people with a millennia-long written scholarly heritage, even after three-quarter century of its independence, has categorically failed to promote and modernize any of its language for functioning in scholarly, academic, judiciary, administrative, technological, and industrial realms.
    Extremely sad, self-destructive, and unimaginable how you’ve promoted and perpetuated a professional and educational ecosystem which incessantly and irreversibly keep sidelining, hollowing out, and depleting your federal and provincial languages.

    Nonsense about the taxes....it's just theft of money from people who work hard. You can do away with the income tax which is useless, and maybe introduce a consumption tax or transaction tax instead...

  • @Anamika12898
    @Anamika12898 2 месяца назад +1

    the anger among the income taxpayer is because of high tax avoidance by people. There are millionaire farmers who do not pay tax, Amitabh Bachan is registered as farmer in Uttar Pradesh, Despite GST, entrepreneurs, traders and working professionals who are self-employed avoid paying taxes. People in India unlike, Bibek Debroy' s "expectation theory", are not rational enough to make such expectations, nor do they read neither they know how much expenditure is optimum for which sector. The salaried class just feels it unjust that they are paying income tax more than people who are better off than it. Thye really do not care about the quantum of expenditure on education, rather they just despise the fact that after giving so much of direct and indirect tax in proportion to their income, the quality of government school is not worth sending their children there. As data put by Gaiutam, The tax collection has increased but just 2.3% of people actually pay income tax and just 7% file ITR which is not in consonance with the size of our economy, consumption and high inequality prevalent in India. Thus, this anger can be managed by expanding tax net, curb tax avoidance and evasion and giving relief to taxpayers in the lower income bracket.
