I learned so much today how the Govt works. I can't believe even common sense reforms were never carried out.
All thanks to Modi ji who created the Niti Aayog which hired Sanjeev Sandal.
India's bureaucrats are too comfortable with lifelong jobs and pension. They should be given targets to bring down cost of governance or some financial savings else some of their benefits should be taken away.

Under Modi's leadership, every bureaucrat is performing 100%
It was never bureaucrat problem, it was always leadership problem.

@@shrin210 Yet they have developed no ownership. Once an employee develops this trait, they will improve processes and regulations.
I think you didn't not listen to the full talk. Sanjeev shares how bureaucrats opposed him from removing unnecessary departments and regulations. Why will an employee performing 100% do that?

    PATTERNS:
    - Process reforms are understudied in economics and policymaking despite their importance in driving efficiency
    - Identifying inefficiencies, mapping processes, analyzing bottlenecks, reforming, and monitoring feedback are key steps in process reforms
    - Direct benefit transfers and the JAM trinity significantly reduced leakage in welfare programs in India
    - Outdated telecom regulations were hindering the IT/BPO sector in India until recently reformed
    - India's legal metrology laws are a major source of rent-seeking; reforms are still needed
    - Increasing capacity and hiring at the Indian patent office is critical to fostering innovation
    - Some state-mandated requirements like compulsory mediation can cause unnecessary delays and should be voluntary
    - Many outdated government bodies in India should be restructured or shut down to reduce inefficiency
    - Continuous process re-engineering, as done in business, is essential in government to drive improvement
    - Economic growth in India is being driven by nuts-and-bolts process reforms, not just structural changes
    META:
    - The importance of process reforms was mentioned multiple times throughout the input
    - Key steps in process reforms were outlined and repeated in the input
    - Several examples of successful process reforms in India were provided (DBT, telecom, patents)
    - Ongoing challenges with process inefficiencies were highlighted (legal metrology, outdated gov bodies)
    - The speaker drew parallels between process re-engineering in business and its necessity in government
    ANALYSIS:
The input emphasizes the critical yet often overlooked role of process-level reforms in driving efficiency and economic growth, providing several illustrative examples from the Indian government's recent efforts.
    BEST 5:
    1. Process reforms are understudied in economics and policymaking despite their importance in driving efficiency (mentioned multiple times, central theme)
    2. Identifying inefficiencies, mapping processes, analyzing bottlenecks, reforming, and monitoring feedback are key steps in process reforms (actionable framework provided)
    3. Direct benefit transfers and the JAM trinity significantly reduced leakage in welfare programs in India (concrete success story)
    4. Continuous process re-engineering, as done in business, is essential in government to drive improvement (key takeaway, links business and gov)
    5. Economic growth in India is being driven by nuts-and-bolts process reforms, not just structural changes (high-level insight, challenges conventional wisdom)
    ADVICE FOR BUILDERS:
    - Identify and map out inefficient processes in your domain; analyze root causes of bottlenecks
    - Learn from process re-engineering best practices in business and adapt them to your context
    - Prioritize continuous iteration and improvement rather than one-off reforms; monitor feedback closely
    - Look for opportunities to eliminate outdated regulations or requirements that hinder efficiency
    - Invest in building capacity and hiring talent in critical functions to enable process improvements

Great. Now need to revisit and scrutinize the working of various regulatory bodies in india. CCI must be abolished quickly. Next RBI as regulator failed in many ways. Like PSU banks, should have integrated system for cooperative bank, private financial institutions, private sector banks in a single frame. Consumers right and protection not done well by RBI despite Banking Ombudsman. There are exploitation in pvt sector banks with sophisticated extortion esp loan App, online banking, loan process, recovery etc. Consumers are losers. No accountability or transparency in their functioning
