I’m liking the new video intro! I did the same install a couple of months ago for the same reason of going to the Tillamook jamboree. I got good SWR readings on mine when testing it, but I haven’t actually used it on the trails yet so I’m excited for next month
Good video, thank you. Would have been helpful to see how you connected to the battery, and the reference to a fuse that was separate from the one that comes with the unit--what's the purpose. From the video looks like you plugged into what the previous owner had installed (at the battery), but can't tell what you really did at the power source. Care to add those details?
Thanks for the feedback, I am always looking to improve my videos. We tapped into the battery bus bar which basically an extension on the positive terminal. I fused the unit again, as I prefer to have a fuse as close to the power source as possible. If the fuse is at the unit itself, there are several feet of wire that could burn or catch on fire in a short that would be unfused.
Nice, I have had one for decades. I just found it in a box in my shop. hooked it up and it is working again. I keep a CB in my trucks for legacy work with 4x4 people, but for real comms, 2 meter and GMRS are so far ahead of CB that it is not funny. Truthfully requiring CB is really irresponsible of organizations. If I were going to get another vehicle CB I would buy a hand help with an N connector to the antenna, then install a good antenna with an N quick detach in the Jeep. Keep the rubber duck OEM antenna so when you get out you can carry it. That is how I do 2 Meters mobile. My Yaesu HT with a great antenna has done simplex to 30 miles. And with GMRS your unlicensed family is covered by your license, we use the Garmin handhelds with built in GPS and mapping, we have used them for decades too, it is really sad that Off Roaders, for all they spend, treat comms like empty beer cans.
Had my first experience with one a few weeks ago, they have a very limited range. You will be able to talk and hear those very close to you. Similar to a small hand held.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll see how they do, we mostly use VHF so I didn't want to install a big CB unit just for this event, hoping its enough to let us listen in on what we need to for the event.
I have been thinking about switching to one of these. I currently run a Uniden 520xl. It is an awesome radio, but wouldn't mind something smaller. Looking forward to the JJ event vlog!
I think if CB was going to be my primary radio I would go with a more powerful and optioned unit but this will do for JJ. - I am really excited to JJ - should be at least 2 vlogs (2 days of wheeling) to come from it :) Keep an eye out for Jeepapalooza vlogs first though! 1.5 more weeks!
Good video. However, as I lease my vehicle there no way I can drill, rewire, modify or mount such accessories in my truck. Apparently all of these steps must be done to get a working CB radio in a vehicle. Maybe a portable unit could work.
Have you had any problems with it? I’m getting one and plan on plugging it into the cig lighter and use a magnetic antenna on the roof of my truck. Any recommendations
made many trips with the set up ur talking about...never had any issues..as far as scratching the paint i just used a rag between the cowl of my jeep and the antenna....
The only thing I came to see was how to connect the electric wires / fuse them or whatever... Could have used some more info there. Still no idea what to do Great video otherwise.

@@Casey250 This is very helpful. Thank you. Would it be possible to upload a picture of your battery with the fuse shown?
Ah... This is the only part of the installation that is confusing and I needed to see lol
Should have put a spring coil on the antenna so it is more giving to bending when it comes in contact with limbs and what not.

@@Casey250 Looking forward to it Casey. I need to get some install videos uploaded so that I will be up to date with the events I am doing soon
should have used jeep uniqe mount looks way better and can hold a baofeng radio as well
wonder if the wire he used to pull the hot wire thru the fire wall was HOT
Crushed coaxial cable with too tight cable ties,

Maybe you can get a CB that plugs into a cigarette lighter and use a mag mount antenna
so what kind of fuse did you use?
Killer new intro man!
ext speaker , is one needed?

Im not sure how well that setup would work. Im not a fan of CB after using it at Jeep Jamboree. They have switched to GMRS now I believe
beware the magnetic antenna. It will scratch up your paint. If you don't care about that, then no sweat.

And now Jeep Jamboree is moving to GMRS.
haha ya, i am going to need one of those in the JL.

"Real simple, quick installation of that Cobra CB radio..."
...only mounts the antenna 🤣
I installed everything that is part of that radio in this video.
Bro you talk way too much
