This is my favorite ConFunkShun song. He sings this so passionately because it's based on a true story about the lead singer and another member of the group, dating the same woman.
I knew when I heard this song as a kid, he was saaaaaaaaaanging that song too hard; that was from his heart, soul, body AND mind!!! His passion was on a DIFFERENT, WHOLE other level!!
Amber you figured it out. Two of the band members was seeing the same girl and didn’t know. Once he found out that way it’s so much passion Micheal Cooper is lead singer. This is the original version. Druhill did a version in 2000’s and Bruno Mars did a version 2023
The story is he really did get caught in a love triangle and the one that got the girl was a member of the band! That explains the passion that he's singing with. They briefly described it on their UNSUNG episode. Michael Cooper is the lead singer on this one. He didn't get the girl, but it inspired him to write this smash hit! I think it worked out for everyone.
Con Funk Shun's biggest hit was Ffun that climbed as high as #23 in 1977 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the R&B chart. Worth a listen, particularly for the harmonies and horn-filled funk.
CON FUNK SHUN are the unsung HEROS of R&B and Funk! I saw them in 1978 at the Funk Fest at Soldier Field in Chicago and they CLOWNED! I might be wrong, but I think Felton Pilate--who was a multi instrumentalist and vocalist--sang lead on a song called "Make it Last". He was a falsetto singer, and he brought the house down! He held a falsetto note for about 45 seconds!!!!! PLEASE react to this song, you will LOVE it!!!!!
There is another group that you will enjoy if you have never heard of them. Tony!, Toni!, Tone! and their song "Anniversary" which is similar to this style. You would also enjoy "Feels Good" and "Whatever You Want". I highly recommend The Deele and "Two Occasions" also. At some point you need to hear "Mornin'" by Al Jarreau. Such a wonderful feel good and uplifting song to start one's day and Amber will just love it. The original video for the song is cool and with good feels. You then need to continue with more from Al. Thanks.

This song reminds me of house parties in the late 70's. Con funk shun had many hits but my fav was Ffun, Chase me, and my moms fav Shake and Dance. Would love to see your reactions to those.
The song has two lead vocalists: Felton Pilate (The verses, smoother voice), Michael Cooper (Verses, the gritty, soulful voice heightening the passion). They both wrote the song! Great backup vocals too! A BIG high five 🙌🏾for Bassist Cedric Martin! American superduo Silk Sonic, which includes Bruno Mars release a very good remake of the song in 2022! You should heck it out! 😊👏🏾🎤🎶🎸🥁🎹💯🛼

I would like to make a suggestion. There's a songs little different. It's by Curtis Mayfield and the name of the song is "Back To The World" This is a really good song. The words are very very deep. The song came out in 1973
This is Michael Cooper, who also leads I'm Leaving Baby. You gotta check out the other lead, Felton Pilate - Let Me Put Love on Your Mind, Straight From The Heart, Baby I'm Hooked, By Your Side. This is my favorite song by Confunkshun. The lead singer here is Michael Cooper. He had a good solo career in the late 80s/early 90s. I suggest reaction to his "My Baby's House" and "Dinner For Two". Cooper has a unique voice. Very underrated voice.
Con Funk Shun is my favorite R&B/Funk band and they’ve put together an amazing music catalog spanning from the early 1970s to today. Just saw them in Oakland California earlier this year. I think there's still 3 original members. They were jamming and sounded almost the same. Also it was a small venue so we weren't to far from the stage. I'm 62 so this was the music we partied to at the clubs when I was younger.
As good as this was, I think you'd like their heavy funk stuff better. Try "Ffun" and "Shake and Dance With Me," both from 1978, and "Chase Me" from 1979.
They were the backup band to the Soul Children on Stax Label when they left Cali for Memphis. They were influenced by Sly and James but their sound was nothing like Sly or James. Michael Cooper was the lead singer. He went solo in the mid 80's.
The pride of Vallejo, Cali!!! They are first and foremost a FUNK band--one of my all-time favorites! Check out "Got To Be Enough" and "Ffun." I guarantee you'll be dancing in your seats!!!

I've also seen other group including: The Time, Vanity 6, Mazarati (A local Funk/Rock band that hit the national scene for a short time) the Deele, George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic, Shalamar, Patric Rushen.
That was the "quiet storm" side of ConFunkShun; next, you should try their biggest hit, "Ffun" (two F's, not a typo), an uptempo funk tune with a nice brass line. BTW, next time you get to Sly & the Family Stone, give a listen to "Family Affair," their last #1 hit. It's a low-key, crafty little funk number that represents Sly at his "sly" best.

Just saw them in Oakland California earlier this year. I think there's still 3 original members. They were jamming and sounded almost the same. Also it was a small venue so we weren't to far from the stage. I'm 62 so this was the music we partied to at the clubs when I was younger.
Thanks again for taking my Arctic Monkeys request ☺️
It made my day yesterday
As good as this was, I think you'd like their heavy funk stuff better. Try "Ffun" and "Shake and Dance With Me," both from 1978, and "Chase Me" from 1979.
love "ffun"
They were the backup band to the Soul Children on Stax Label when they left Cali for Memphis. They were influenced by Sly and James but their sound was nothing like Sly or James. Michael Cooper was the lead singer. He went solo in the mid 80's.
Michael Cooper (lead singer of Confunkshun)- Over & Over. The jam!!!!!
Soul For Real- Candy Rain (Official Video ).
Michael Cooper is the lead vocalist.
The pride of Vallejo, Cali!!! They are first and foremost a FUNK band--one of my all-time favorites! Check out "Got To Be Enough" and "Ffun." I guarantee you'll be dancing in your seats!!!
Con Funk Shun with the Gap Band was my first concert! It's one of my favorite of ALL TIME! 😊👏🏾🎤🎶🎸🥁🎹💯
Amazing there was any Funk left for anybody else after that show.😁
@@vizzini589, yes it was an incredible concert! I'm still feeling the Funk from that show...from 1980!!!🤣🎶
@@DarrylSellers Unfortunately never got to see ConFunkShun, but saw almost all the other Funk bands from the 70's. Gap Band, LTD, Isley's, Ohio Players, PFunk, Lakeside etc. Miss those days dearly.
@@vizzini589 , me too! You've seen some great concerts! I wish I had seen the group you've mentioned who I haven't seen in concert! I'm a Minneapolis native and have seen Prince perform many times including at his Glam Slam Nightclub in the 1990s!
This song has some solid funk in the bass guitar and kick drum action, but gives me a serious rythm & blues vibe. Those vocals!
This song is about a true situation between two of the members in the group according to their story!
I heard that too!
If you want to hit all of those bands in that era, you gotta listen to the group Slave and the song "Just A Touch Of Love."
You won't regret it!
Amber & Jay Con Funk Shun have great music that u guys have to react to. 1)Ffun; 2)Straight From The Heart; 3)Too Tight; 4)Got To Be Enough (My Favorite); 5)California 1.
Michael Cooper is the lead singer of Con Funk Shun, and also has been a solo artist. This band helped define funk in the late 70s and the 80s. Another song you will like is Fun, as well as Got To Be Enough and Chase Me.
Song was based on a true story from their Band. 2 members were dating the same female without knowing, thus this song.
MICHAEL COOPER THE LEAD SINGER HE HAS SOLO SONGS TO AND HIM THE WHOLE SONG BY HIMSELF EXPECT BACKGROUND VOCALS.
"Baby makin' music for the old heads in da room"...lol. U like this one then u gotta check out "You Are My Starship" by Norman Connors featuring Michael Henderson.
Yaaaaaassssss!! Thank you!! 💜💜
Omg, forgot about this song! I haven't heard anybody react to this song....such a great song!
Bay Area’s own!!! 🌉🌉
Shout out to y’all who remember Dru Hill’s “Love’s Train” cover. ✌🏽
This is the only Con Funk Shun song I know, but two similar groups I think you'll enjoy are the Bar-Kays (Anticipation, Freakshow On The Dance Floor) and Slave (Watching You, Just A Touch Of Love).
Yes, ConFunkShun was formed in Cali, but they relocated to Memphis TN in 1973 and got with Stax Records. That why we Memphians call this group Memphis’ own.
Love love love you two and your reaction! 😊
Lead on this track is Michael Cooper. He also put out several solo projects. Listen to Love Isn’t Over, Dinner For Two, My Baby’s House and Shoop Shoop. Also my favorite Prove My Love To You.
