One that makes you want to get up and dance! I’m an ol skoolers and the music back in our days was the very best!
The lead singer is so charismatic! This is one of the most talented and creative bands of all time! The costumes! They have so many hit songs! Great reaction Jay and Amber! 😎👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
This is the cookout, wedding reception, dance ❤song! I love this song! Instant happiness
Absolutely instant happiness! This is just sooooo good!
Wore this song out on my cassette player in my car back in the day. Best part of the song was cut off at the end: “If you're ready to party and you wanna get down
Bring your ma, your pa, and brother James Brown
Bring Auntie Em and Toto too
And all the party people to do their do
We'll dance and party till the early light
And say, 'Hey, we're feelin' alright'
So come along, come on take a ride
There's a party over there, that ain't no lie
We're leavin' here in a cloud of smoke
And th-th-that-th-th-that-th-th-that's all folks”
Yesssssss!!! I left a comment about the cutoff too but this is it. It's all this they left out.
Amber and Jay don't know they've been disappointed. 🤣🤣💯💯
i wore it out on cass. and my turntable.
YES! 💛
Coolio had a big hit sampling this for his Fantastic Voyage song. RIP Coolio.
From Wikipedia with no explanation, "The band dressed in a range of costumes on their album covers, including pirates, 1920s police officers, cowboys, Arabian knights, and even Robin Hood."
One of the guys who joined after this album is the father of Ty Dolla Sign. I've heard of him for some reason.
Some more for you to check out in the funk mode: Slave - Just A Touch of Love, Watching You, Slide; Tom Browne - Jamaica Funk; The S.O.S. Band - Just Be Good To Me, Take Your TIme (Do It Right); Midnight Star - Freak-A-Zoid; Skyy - Call Me; The Gap Band - Party Train, Beep a Freak; Oops Upside Your Head, Humpin.
Don't forget "Thighs High" by Tom Browne.❤❤
The was a banger with this band called Yarborough and People?? Sort of same time frame
I hope they get to do SLAVE soon. "DRAC IS BACK" "GREAT AMERICAN FUNK SONG" "COMING SOON" "SNAPSHOT" "VOLCANO RUPTURE" Funkadelic "RED HOT MAMA" "SUPER STUPID" "YOU AND YOUR FOLKS" "FREE YOUR MIND" "MISS LUCIFER'S LOVE" "COSMIC SLOP" "I WANNA KNOW" " COMING AROUND THE MOUNTAIN"
Yes, they had a song called Don't Stop the Music.@@000_x9
Yes, yes, and yes!!
I Was The DJ At My Mom's Birthday Party Yesterday, I Played This Song For Her On Her Birthday,This Is Her All Time Favorite Song, Thanks For Doing The Reaction To This Great Classic Song 👍, Guy's
I can't believe the song was cut short! This is an absolute banger!!!
I just said that before I read your comment, They cut out the rap part at the end of the song?? To me that really made the song. (Aaa that's all folks)🤣
@@empire7179 I was ready for the TO THE LAND OF FUNK! TO THE LAND OF FUNK! TO THE LAND OF FUNK! It was ripped away from me! 🤣
@@Dirtcake71 To me they have to stop listening to these live versions and just play the album cuts because they be missing out on a lot. Sometime I'll be yelling at my TV "BUT THAT'S NOT All !!!" 😭😭.. 🤣
@@empire7179 I agree! They should always listen to the album version then the live if they choose. Except Lisa Fischer. Her performance in Japan is way better than the album version! 😂
@@empire7179They may not be allowed to post the studio version to many of these songs due to copyright issues.
Yes, there was a Lakeside Stomp. The dance floor was packed on this song. Also, Lakeside did a version of the Beatles, "I wanna hold your hand." They slowed it down with a bluesy groove.😂😂😂❤❤❤
That's my jam! Used to sing to girls on the phone LMAO
YES. That's one of the baddest slow jams EVER. 💛
Just a great reaction. This is still a playlist song for every Funky occasion since the 80's. Other Funky songs you both would enjoy would be "Funkin' For Jamaica" by Tom Browne (The video is a must), "You're The One For Me" by D Train, "Party Train" by The Gap Band, "Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan and "I Didn't Mean To Turn You On" by Cherrelle. "Dance With Me" and "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky with Me" both by Peter Brown. Many have been suggested various times before and some again in the comments. Don't forget about Cameo because its been awhile. "Back And Forth" by Cameo you would enjoy next. Its been awhile for K.C. & The Sunshine Band also. "That's The Way(I Like It)" and "Get Down Tonight" are still waiting for you. There are many other funky grooves you would like but too many to list. Thanks again for the Fun & Funky reaction.👍Oh I forgot these musts in my list "Hollywood Swinging'" by Kool & The Gang and "Must Be The Music" by Secret Weapon.
Their sound in this song always reminded me of Earth Wind & Fire. We were definitely moving and grooving to their funky music. ;o)
When someone says "Funk", this is the cut that comes to mind.
It's hard to believe there are still people who haven't heard this wonderful funk! I grew up with this stuff.
One of the founding members/song writers of Kool & the Gang recently passed, George Brown. You guys should react to Jungle Boogie.
Jungle Boogie is one of my favorites ❤
Her face smiling, and her reaction is exactly how everyone has always felt every time they ever hear this song. I’m 59 years old and it is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Rob Squad you must absolutely react to Prince’s live cover of Fantastic Voyage, Hollywood Swinging and play That Funky Music. It was recorded at the old Forum in Inglewood, CA. It was his second encore of the night and need I say absolutely epic! Prince had no equal! Lakeside are funk legends in my house. Prince did them boys major justice.
Love this song and I love when Coolie-O did the 90s hip-hop version
He sampled it
Coolio.
The Dazz band let it whip! A banger ,don't forget B T express ,Brass construction movin did I forget Fat back band .Bus stop? Wow!!!!😆
Man it just breaks my heart that you got a shortened version. The longer version includes a great outro rap that just KILLS
The perfect song for this video! All he needed was 2 words - “I’m Back!”
The synth bass on this song is insane!
Yaaaasssss!! This is a banger from back in the day. You guys should also check out Slave!! An amazing band as well. Weak at the knees, slide and watching you are some of my favorites by them😊
YES!
Yup, Slide!
Your party wasn't legit until Slide came on!! #ClassicCuts
Saw Lakeside in Atlanta. Their whole concert nobody sat down everybody was moving and Groovin… What great memories😊
COULD NOT click on this one: FAST ENOUGH!! I KNOW where THIS reaction is going!! :) HUGS, YA'LL!!!❤❤❤
We had a voyage theme for our prom and when this song came on we went nuts. 😆
these generations don't know how good the music was back then?
we need this kind of music again
I live near a park where people play music at events all the time. I was sitting out on my patio and I was kinda annoyed at the music, until they played this song. Love it!
This is one of my favorite songs of all time and fun fact the lead singer of this group Mark Wood, is married to Sharon Hill. One of the dancers on soul train. She danced in the '70s She mostly danced with Tyrone Proctor. You can check her out!!
RIP to Tyrone Proctor. I didn't know Mark Wood married Sharon Hill. Learned something new.
@@raymondwoodard6779 I know right neither did I but I was looking at old soul train lines from back in the day and they had on there former soul train dancers and they're talking about how they got on soul train and that's when I found out that she's married to him. You can go to RUclips type in. I was a soul train dancer and put in Sharon Hill and you can hear her story of how she got on Soul Train. Some of the stuff you going to hear was really sad because it did make me sad
I actually clicked on that Sharon video a few days ago, but I didn't get around to watching it all. I guess I will now. Thanks.@@stephaniejones4749
This band, the Commodores-Brick House, The Time and Gap Band were ALWAYS the music that would immediately make you dance!
One of the ALL TIME bangers of the Funk (or any) era. And BIG UPS to Coolio for introducing so many to this track with his own "Fantastic Voyage" back in '94. Rest In Power King. ♥️
The energy in their music is like a shot of pure adrenaline.
The lead singer of this group Mark Wood Jr married one of the original Soul Train dancers from the70's and 80's by the name of Sharon. He was NOT from another group except high school or small local bands before Lakeside Express later known as Lakeside.
Sharon Hill-Wood.
Yes! Lakeside is one of my all-time favorites. But you got the short version. They repeated the opening rap, then added another verse. "Raid," "Turn the Music Up," "Something About You," and "Relationship" are other good ones. They have some great ballads also, including a slow-jam version of The Beatles song "I Want to Hold Your Hand."
“All the way live”
Yes! I was waiting for that slippity slide to come back around! 😄
The Ultimate party jam of the early 80's!! Man, did we work up a sweat when the DJ gave this one a spin!!!
"It's All the Way Live" is another funk classic by them.
Amber, that look was definitely a stage thing. The closest anyone came to that look was Prince in his Ruffled shirt. He was the only male confident enough to pull it off.😂😂😂
Dance party!!! 💃🏾
Oh no, this was the short version. I had to pause and go listen to the next part in the over 6min version, then come back for the video conclusion. Heh.
💃💃💃💃💃
Man! Hearing these songs when they were released was just so exciting. I love seeing others discovering these songs now.❤
We did this song by design and we went after a fly look it was intended to the funky pirates so you were right to call us pimp pirates my name is Fred Alexander the drumer and you were right so funk on!
How funky is the bass line in that song? What a groove.
I saw this group in concert in the late 80s/early 90s. They were AWESOME!
Yesssssss . I’ve been ready for you check them out … this was my jam back in the day
T - CONNECTION - " DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO " 70s Super Funk Grooves and little over 7 minutes of the very best and super creative music group to have been part of the Oldskool Funk of the 1970s. Jay and Amber you'll love this New group on your channel. This song is 1,000% Groovy to the Boogie.
I live in a house that has a park and baseball fields behind my house. Some kids had an Easter egg hunt in the baseball field. I was sitting out on my patio and was kind of annoyed that we’re literally playing gangster rap at a kids event. Then they played this song and I was dancing on my patio! 😂
Love when you go Old Skool! We had so much fun dancing to all of these songs.
If you recognize the beat, you know that Coolio did a song with this music as the background, it's also called fantastic voyage
3:48 - The man who sings lead on this song is Mark Adam Wood Jr. (1969 - 2011). He began in a group called, "The Nomads & The Young Underground", before being a part of the group Lakeside.
I love this song! I still have all the words memorized after all this time
Another one on constant rotation on my playlist. I listened to this one this morning.
Such a great song! All the wonderful R & B, funk, dance, disco music I loved in college!!
Here are some other funk gems that you two will absolutely love, I guarantee it:
"Rigor Mortis" by Cameo
"Tonight" by Kleeer
"More Bounce to the Ounce" by Roger & Zapp
"(Not Just) Knee Deep" by Funkadelic
"Just A Touch Of Love" by Slave
"Nobody Can Be You" by Steve Arrington (of Slave)
"Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" by GQ
"Party Train" by The Gap Band
"You Are My Starship" by Dazz Band
"It's Just Begun" by The Jimmy Castor Bunch (great horns and drums!)
I think you, me, & about 6 others know about Kleeer.
For me, License to Dream is their best album.
Every roller-skating rink in the country must have had this song on their hit list back in the day! So much fun to skate to this jam back in the day!
Something About That Woman is my fave from Lakeside. Also Your Love Is On The One & Your Wish Is My Command.
Such a great dance song! You both have great moves, even sitting down. This song means its pahr-tay time!!💃🕺
LAKESIDE! Hell yeah! And they're not just a FUNK group they also released one of the ALL-TIME R&B ballads," REAL LOVE!" Great video! Great Reaction! Also, if you're open to listening to some real, thick, syrupy funk... I suggest "DR. FUNKENSTEIN " by PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC and " REACH FOR IT" by GEORGE DUKE! Keep up the great content!
Great song! Gotta love the funk!!!! ❤❤❤. And Amber you definitely made me smile today with the Pimp Pirate suits! Absolutely adore you two. Thank you!!!❤❤❤
That's Mark Adam Wood, the lead singer he's got a David Ruffin type of vibe which is really cool
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY! MANY BLESSINGS TO Y'ALL!!
Damn 1979 1980 we were jamming on the funk and Okinawa Japan the Japanese ladies came on the dance floor and all the Marines hit the dance floor out in town and we were jamming the Marine Corps was jumping
Some of this is sampled or clipped for a rap song I use to hear when I was younger. I remember bits of the lyrics.
I live about 10 miles from where Lakeside first started in Dayton Ohio!! A group of High School Students had a dream!!
This song and band would take over our roller rink, Palisade Gardens, every session. Along with Midnight Star, Cameo and so many others. The best to jam to ever!!!!
Nothing like that good old school music it's so much better than today
😊😊😊 thanks for getting to this one guys please check out
All The Way Live (1978)
Raid (1983)) by Lakeside thanks again Jay and Amber 😊
Man I wish I could be you and hear this amazing music for the first time again!
Flashback to a roller skating rink. You could dance AND skate to this song.
AAAAYYYYYEEEE, Y'ALL!!! I'M COMMENTING BEFORE I EVEN PLAY THIS..... FANTASTIC VOYAGE IS A GOAT!!!! CHECK THE BASSLINE!!!!!
Yessss that bass is all that!
🥰🥰🥰
Serious skate song back in the day!!
Got the notification yawl was on this one and I stopped to watch the reaction.. Close proximity -Local Group for us here in Ohio - we were blessed to be able to see them live and it was a truly Fantastic Voyage, check out It's all the way Live and Raid.. from this funky band... So glad you got to experience this, the long version is total jam... Coolio sampled this grove in the 90's and it hit again... testament of it's feel good grove. We love you two here in Ohio
All right my babies.... One cannot help but to jam to this vicious groove ‼️💯🔥
Just saw them play live a couple of months ago at a car show in my hometown Ventura, Ca. Bad ass show! Nobody was standing still. 🤘😎🤘
This song is FUNKKKY - makes me want to groove hard. “Come along and ride on a fantastic voyage” daaaang 😅
Jay and Amber, I wish you two could have been on the dance floor with me, back in the day! I know that you are just kids, but I think you have "old souls". This was an excellent song choice. Thanks! 🥰
S.O.S. Band - Take Your Time (Do It Right)
Rufus and Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody
Lipps Inc. - Funky Town
Debbie Deb - When I Hear Music
I'm a US navy veteran from the old school. I love your network. Very beautiful family. I have many suggestions but you have to check out GEORGE DUKE, DUKEY STICK, FUNK.
Lakeside covered the "Beatles "I want to hold your hand"...its still one of my all-time ballads
Crazy how much funk came out of Dayton, Ohio! Dayton isn’t that big but they brought the funk
Dayton is the Land Of Funk!
Good morning guys, try Lakeside "It's All the way Live and Raid and they have a wonderful ballad Say Yes, and since you are looking for Funk try Slave, Steal Your Heart, Wait for me, Snapshot and Steve Arrington's of Slave's Nobody Can Be You! Have a wonderful week! 🌅🍁☕🍩🎼👍😎☮️
Omgoodness! This song brings back memories on the lite up dance floor!
Lakeside was a great all around band. They were just as good with ballads as they are with funk. Raid and Outrageous are great funk songs. Say Yes, I Need You and Real Love are dreamy ballads.
Amber you made my day with your "pimp pirate" comment. lol Rock on!
Love the soul and funk songs of the 70’s and 80’s!!
Ok, now I can’t stop singing this! I loved this song way back then and still do now. But the pimp pirates 🤣🤣🤣 Love it!
Had so much fun dancing at the disco back in the day!
You two are so adorable together but you have to get a hold of some Con Funk Shun, that was the group. You scratch the surface with "Loves Train", then listen to "Straight from the Heart", "Chase Me", "All Up To You" , "Got To Be Enough" you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't get with the groove. Especially if you like true R&B and Funk.
Prince does a cover of this within a medley of songs from a performance at the LA Forum. I highly recommend checking that out. It’s Play That Funky Music/Hollywood Swinging/Fantastic Voyage. It’s super funky and super fun.
Absolutely! I was checking to see if anyone would mention Prince's epic medley. I think I remember reading somewhere it was his third encore after a 3 hr concert. Truly a must-see. Longer than the usual videos people react to, but worth every single second.
Oh I have to hunt this down
Found it OMG this is awesome!
@@michellec2514 I’m so glad you found it. I watch it all the time when I need some cheering up. It’s awesome for the boots alone 😂
@@JJlovesPrince now I'm going down a rabbit hole of his videos and loving every minute lol
Can't beat 80s electro-funk. ❤ It's a shame groups like that went extinct.
ISLEY BROTHERS - SHOUT Y'all should definitely listen to early early isley brothers. A good time and heavily hype!
Thank you for playing this one. Takes me right back to high school.
If you're ever in the Cincinnati/Dayton area you need to check out the Funk museum. Lakeside, Bootsy, Ohio Players and many others are from that area.
Lawd! This was my music when I was 40+ years younger, but it still is!
Such a good song - this was popular when I was in my early 20’s. Every party played this and it was so much fun!
Soon as I saw this today I couldn't wait to see the look on Jay's face when he heard those opening funky licks. Y'all didn't disappoint.😊 I was never a disco fan but this song was a def exception.
Awww ❤ The memories. I don't even know today's current music or artist. All I listen to is old-school in all categories 😊
"Pimp Pirates"! I almost fell out of my chair 🤣 Thanks for that Amber. If you want some raw, unmitigaed FUNK, you must listen to George Duke's "Dukey Stick"
I soooo love this song!!!😊❤
Lakeside Songs: I Wanna Hold Your Hand (Beatles Song Remake), RAID, Something About That Woman, All The Way Live, Your Wish is My Command, Pull My Strings, so many more.
One of the All-Time great funk songs.
Welcome to my youth. Class of 1982 in the House. This is rap before the baby is fully born. Pure unadulterated big funky rap.
