- In loving memory of Bendor
When an alligator named Chris, burdened by social-anxiety, finds his favorite coffee-shop's vending machine to mysteriously be out of order, he's met with the task of facing his fears and heading inside. There he meets the baristas Alfie and Andy, the latter being particularly friendly toward Chris.
So I've been working on this project for quite a while, it's always been one of my biggest dreams to make my own animated short film, and despite not being able to become an animation student I still wanted to cross that ambition off my bucket list.
And here we are, i'm incredibly proud of the final result, there's been many hurdles along the way as well as the times where i wanted to give up, but i pushed on trough and finished the whole thing.

@@TheCart54321 Idk what bar tender you met but all of the ones i know drink more than the customers. Why? Its part of the job. You have to be especially skilled to mix a good flavored drink. If a bar doesn't have quality drinks that set it apart then it isn't competitive.
I am strictly talking about quality bars. The kind of bar with a unique positive atmosphere, great decorations, and sometimes great food.
Not the party bars (their draw is the life of the party mindset) or the grunge backstreet bars where alcoholics go regularly to drown their sorrows. These two bar categories just serve your common beers and shots. Bars i visit make custom mix drinks daily because they have no fixed menu. Every order is custom although there are a few local favorites like the lemon drop, rum punch, and liquid marijuana (its not actually marijuana. It just has the color from 4 different liquors and pineapple juice mixing).

it's surprisingly refreshing to have an animation with no conflict or tragedy. Just a relaxing, kind-spirited video.

Well, there *were* conflicts, but they were all agonizingly adorable: Chris's inner conflict of battling his social anxiety in order to get a cup of hot chocolate, and Andy's battle of trying to perfect a cup of hot chocolate for his crush. Every story needs a conflict, even if they're extremely cute and small.
With Bendor gone this animation really has a bittersweet memory. Its more important than ever now. Rest in peace old friend.

Wow this is beyond impressive, not only is the animation is incredibly smooth you definitely nailed the aesthetic and atmosphere downright perfectly. The colors, the cinematography and how it tells such a simple story in such a beautiful way is something definitely worth admiring. This was a legitimately great short film and I mean it. You are definitely talented in your craft and I can see you having a bright future in it. ^_^

It took me a second to see the switch for the vending machine was down (off). Smart plan to get him inside, very heartwarming.

Rest In Peace Bendor 💝 my beautiful brother, you were always kindness personified. This warms my heart and touches my soul that you so many others found comfort here from this project. Alfie will be alive always and that is the most wonderful gift 💝
And Bendor will always be remembered as the sweetest person ever you should see how many over on furaffinity made stuff for him even a guy in Vrchat created a memorial for furrys he is there and I visit it to remember how he made people smile

this has such a wonderful slice of life feel I just love how it portrays everything, also that knowledge on being a barista lol. this is wonderful and i half expected to read that this was a students final film is the description. but the fact that its not is even more impressive, you taught yourself how to animate and made a film anyway despite not attending a school for it. its inspiring! there are so many people who fall into despair after being rejected from schools but youve proven its something that people shouldnt let stop them . good job!

You know, I've had Vending Machine sitting in my bookmarks bar for months, waiting to be watched. One thing or another distracted me from it. Finally, tonight, I sat down and watched it undisturbed. I wish I had watched this when I first ran across it.
I can think of a laundry list of adjectives to describe it. Wholesome. Calming. Colorful. Engaging. Charming. Adorable. The list goes on. Most of all, it's well done. The soundtrack isn't overpowering. The voice acting is fitting to the scene and characters. The animation is clean. The plot is upbeat and fun to follow.
I could not mash the subscribe button fast enough.

I clicked this vid, without any expectations. I, as a straight dude, was suprised that it was about gay scalies. What suprised me was the high quality of everything. It was adorable, the smooth jazz was soothing, the characters were loveable, the story was well made.

i actually appreciated how beautifully animated this is, the movements are very fluid and realistic, i mean the lines look sketchy but that bring more of its realistic flavor and you honestly look like you learned from an animation school even if you didnt! great job!

This felt so real I honestly felt that I was in the cafe. This is beautifully done, no doubt one of the best things I've seen this year.
I don't know if you will ever see this, but thank you so much for making this! I have social anxiety disorder, and this video makes me feel very warm and happy. Even more so because I am a lizard myself, it is easy to deeply connect with the characters. I promise it isn't sarcastic. I wish I could share with you the comfort it brings me. Self teaching animation like this, with no formal schooling is no simple feat at all. This is genuinely quite impressive. It sets a really clear tone, and has a very clear warm feeling to the setting. The voice acting is also very well set to the animation, not overbearing or distracting. It's a very fair addition. Even formally schooled people would be proud of something like this.

How tf does this not have like 3 million views. I love this. The line art was scratch, but honestly I prefer it. Gives it a heartwarming feel. The animation was smooth. The charecters where cute. And the story was short and sweet. I loved this.

This animation expresses so much about social anxiety. I have very bad social anxiety and can get hard to get use to especially in a public place, (like ordering food at a restaurant) it's tough to talk to people and making eye contact.

I have a lot to say about what I just saw. Short, sweet, and to the point. Main conflict isn't overbearing, it's just a feel-good film that warms you up inside, and I really like that aspect. It was really interesting to see how Chris walks in with all this anxiety, only to see it be mirrored by Andy after meticulously blending the perfect hot chocolate. It never sank in just how Andy felt for Chris until it was spelled out in the end, and it was funny to see how the comic relief character set that all up. I really liked the writing and how the fist-clenching motif stood alone as the only "deep" symbol.
Probably my favorite part about this is how your drawing style goes into the subject matter. I've tried/done animation, and i can tell from the lineart that most framed were hand-drawn. The fact that you put that much passion project-level work into a film featuring someone putting so much effort into something that simply warms up someone's evening. The music has a very personal feeling to it, too. This all just feels so good and wholesome.
There's also just that emphasis on the human element in what feels like a hopelessly avoidant culture. I'm finding it harder and harder to make friends, and I really felt this during the few months that I lived in the city. To have opportunities to make friends, bond, and converse with people while buying products from non-automated sources really does help fill the social void I feel in my day-to-day life in a surprisingly covert way.
I really appreciated how this made me feel today, I really needed this. Thank you.

A wonderful animation with a wonderful message. The characters emit a lot of warmth and are really well animated, especially in terms of movement and expressions. The music is very welcoming and suitable. It's nice to see just something refreshingly positive.
The story shows that love can spark everywhere, if we just let it happen and make a step out of the shadows. Life may not be always good and sweet, but it can be, if we give it a chance. Excellent work, that really made my day and gave me a big dumb smile. ;)

Coming back to watch this again because I love it so much. If my local coffee shop had baristas this friendly and welcoming I'd drag myself out there way more often.
(also, as a furry i think it's really cool how you deal with drawing the tails around the pants. its' always bothered me not knowing how to fit clothes around tails and your concept seems like it would be fairly realistic in a zootopia-esque scenario)
I absolutely love the beautiful imagery when he tastes the drink, of the street light burning out - what we believe and hold onto as the correct way or path or belief because we are too afraid to think or see alternatives as that may cast us into the darkness - to reveal the sky full of stars that we couldn't see before because our previous traditions or beliefs, etc. were so blinding that it was holding us back from seeing the truth or beauty and from growing and pushing forward ❤️💙💚

Wow... that was honestly fantastic.
1. It tells a really nice yet simple story (simple in a good way). I didn't know what to expect in terms of the concept, whether or not it was going to relate to your usual art, but this honestly surprised me, and I was very impressed with the direction it took.
2. The animation is really well done. There's a lot of detail in each scene - it really shows how much effort you put into this. Especially with all the little details in the characters actions (how they move and react) as well as things that happen in the environment around the characters (leaves blowing in the wind or other movement in the background).
3. Great sense of atmosphere with the choice of music. Fits the setting of the story, funny enough.
4. Voice acting is excellent.
Overall, you did an amazing job and I would love to see more stuff like this in the future. I'm sure this took a long time and a lot of work, but the final product really shows the effort that you put into it. I was smiling the whole time.

Loved the use of piano and imagery. The character motivations felt 100% realistic also, giving me that "Ahhhhh" moment at the end. Very nice.
