Hey guys. So yesterday this video hit the 1 million mark. I think this is a good opportunity for me to say that I'm extremely thankful for the experience that creating this animation gave me. I literally cannot watch this video anymore haha, but I'm still thankful for it. Not only did I get to develop my animation skills, I also got so much encouragement and feedback from other excited fans and learned how it felt to create something that resonates with other people. In this case... the desire to see NITW as an animated cartoon! Given the coming-of-age themes of the game it seems kinda perfect that this happened as I my childhood is about to end. As for the game itself, it will always hold a special place in my heart. :) Okay, sappy time over, peace.
Benova Jamen sadly, the creator of the game had commit suicide. It was an awful time for the NITW community. But, unless someone decided to make a fun game. But for now, no more NITW :(
The characters are so well explained and thought out that everyone has basically the same voice for them. It really shows just how well the characters are fleshed out.
Like yeah. How could they manage to make everyone hear the same voice in character. Like I assure 99,9% of players had the same voice for gregg and Angus.
That's honestly not that difficult but I honestly see Mae with a higher and slightly nasal pitch. She's a pipsqueak. She doesn't look or sound like a pipsqueak.
@@Verasoul I dunno I also imagined her voice to be a bit lower mostly because she’s kind of a badass in some situations so I thought that a more tomboyish voice would fit her
See, this is why I think Night in the Woods would be one of the few indie games to make a fantastic animated movie. They don't even need to change that much. Add lip movement, voice-acting, and a little more to the animation of the game, and take out the speech bubbles, and there. You've got a movie. A little this and that.
My problem with that is turning it into a movie would be stripping it of most of the game's content. Who would Mae hang out with and which ending would happen in the movie? They'd also have to cut down alot of interactions with townsfolk, too. The pacing would also be pretty weird at times. :/
And that’s why, instead of a movie, it would work a lot better as a series. Each epsode lasting around 22-23 minutes long which gives plenty of time for different interactions across each episode. As for which ending, it would be the most popular ending between the fan base. Which a couple changes and cutbacks, it would work if funded.
I'm so sad the creator passed away. I feel like I'll never play a game like this ever again and it makes me depressed. They captured a vibe I haven't seen since the early 2000's.

Hell yeah! I have the same dream of this game getting voiced (and then maybe animated!?), but I lack the motivation to find all the actors for such a project. Maybe if I found the perfect voices for...at least all the named characters, then it wouldn't be so daunting to find the rest. But auditions and all that... And then what if none are the perfect match? It's tough... And ideally, I'd want Benson and Hockenberry to pick out the voices. Who am _I_ to say what they sound like? Uhggggggg

If I remember correctly they said they would make a sequel to Night In the Woods but only after they did some other projects before that, fingers crossed. :)
the man child /djplayer 1. Mae and Bea take a road trip to visit Angus and Gregg in Bright Harbor. 2. Delving deeper into the murder cult and figuring out who it’s members are.
Judah Tirona the game's story is so amazing. It breaks the fourth wall because the game acts like you're a character in the game. Honestly, the game feels more like an experience since it feels like as if you were not with characters but with real people. Also, the main character, Niko is adorable and loveable.
Forgot to mention, if you ever play the game and you reach the ending, I highly suggest you play the game again. I won't tell you the reason why though.
This game is so special to me. I'm actually working with a few friends of mine to make a fan sequel of this masterpiece. I'll be dedicating it to the memory of Alec Holowka.

Coming back to this 6 years later to once again comment on how amazing this is. The animation, angles, poses, colors, expressions, voice acting, it all still holds up incredibly well. It really does feel like a proper movie trailer. If only it really was! I hope your doing well, wherever you are
I just played this for the first time last week and wow, this is weird, the scenes shown in this actually line up PERFECTLY with the choices I made... I'm honestly spooked...
Well if you want more night in the woods there’s a fan project that’s called the whitewater pact go check out the subreddit it’s cool Update:I am now a writer for this project!
I played this game with my cousins and we all voiced different characters. I voiced the mom and I gave her a super squeaky Russian accent so when she said “eels Mae” my cousin’s would laugh their asses of. It was nice but I had to get a glass of water every in game morning. Good times
Reminds me of when i played nitw with one of my friends. Gregg was a soviet russian, bea was a cockney and mae sounded like ned flanders from the simpsons
I played it like this with my brother, but I did all the voices, kind of like a Let's Play with one audience member. My brother and I were constantly making jokes and swapping theories and ideas, and it was the most fun I've had with him in as long as I can remember. When the more serious themes started to come up, they led to some heartfelt and touching conversations between me and my brother. I talked about what it's like living with mental illnesses and how, in some ways, they're not too different from the experience of living with a Lovecraftian horror inside your head. He talked about why he isolates himself from time to time and only has a couple close friends. He said the game helped him understand how I felt as a college dropout who had to go back home to disappointed parents. He said he now understood why I made some of the bad, impulsive decisions I'd made in the past. Following Mae's experiences helped my brother connect with me on a level he hadn't been able to before. We bonded more in a couple NitW playthroughs than we did in any other game in the past. It was a beautiful experience, and I'm so glad that this wonderful game could allow it to happen.
Rewatching it after 4 years. It became even more special for me, I just replayed nitw at night and can't describe what it means to me.The animation, the perfect voices, Alec's music...thank you for this
this is GREAT!! the animation is the kind you see on TV, the voice actors NAILED it and the music really suits the situation! I'll probably watch it again in a few days and post the same comment.
Nathan Dossett You almost have 350 likes now. Do you still feel special? If you do, here’s why: you are. Not because you have an amount of likes, but because everyone’s special. Don’t mind this random comment.
You know, this would translate pretty well into an animated movie. The whole game pretty much plays out like one too. But the only big obstacle in the way of all of this is all the extra content in the game. If people were to try and condense this game down into a 2 hour film, they might take out a shitload of content seeing how much has been added to the game (especially the directors cut). Other than that, this would translate well into an animated film if done the right way!
Same, and Mae and Angus were pretty close to mine too! I wish the recording quality didn't change so drastically between characters, but the voices were all great anyway. This seriously brought tears to my eyes and inspired me to start yet another playthrough!
Jacksepticeye will always be Gregory for me, but EVERY voice in this was AMAAAAAAZING!!? I LOVED Mae's voice in this, and Angus sounds like what I thought he would sound like, and and and.. yeah
This animation got me interested way then when it was released. I got to see the sorrows of the passing, the emotionally charged soundtrack, the joy and feels of the game and everything in between. Thank you
I had no idea of nitw, I clicked here for pure curiosity. I thought it was the oficial trailer, honestly. This video t’s so good that made me want to play the game. I’m gonna play it this weekend :)
I love this! Though I will never be able to look at this characters without hearing Jack's voice come out. He played each one so perfectly especially Mae and Greg. ESPECIALLY Greg.
Got me there bucko, remember first watchin this years ago and just had to come back to it once returning to my nitw phase, i’ve even rewatched it a couple times just now!
I remember watching this animation way back when it first came out. I honestly think that if they did it like this, Night In The Woods would be a great ass show.
@@kami9143 Dude, I think they mean quality and feeling, not whether or not it's a mystery. This definitely looks more Gravity Falls than Scooby-Doo whether or not it's mystery.
I'm glad you kept going with this because it really payed off! The animation is so fluid and the art looks amazing as well. Also the voice acting just goes so well with the characters and it's pretty much how I imagine them sounding. My favourite part is the bit with Bea running away from the college party because the combination of lighting and facial expressions just looks really beautiful but sad. The amount of effort that you've put into this is outstanding and I'm just really happy that this exists. Good job ♡
This is old now but Gods it reminds me how many kinds of stories deserve animations but don't get any. We live in a strange world where mainstream media is almost scared to just let people make stories. Anyway, awesome work if for some reason you read this! Everything form the animation to voice choices just worked perfectly.
@@f0xtr0t-43 I mean there’s other movie companies, some would do absolutely amazing with something like this. others will probably destroy the entire thing

I only discovered NitW a little over a week ago, and waited until I had beaten the game before watching this. This is incredible - it definitely captures the spirit of the game, which I've gotten SUPER into. I was worried the game would be monotonous, but it didn't take long before I got totally absorbed in its atmosphere, including the characters, visuals, music, and story in general. It gave me truly bizarre dreams almost every night: even hours after I finished it, I still had scenes from the game buzzing around in my head as I lay in bed. In my twenty-five or so years playing games I've never experienced anything quite like this.
the transitions are so dramatic and feel so professional, it's clear you've thought about everything and the pacing and ending are absolutely brilliant. Definetly reminds me why I loved the game, Thank you so much!
Rest in peace, Alec Holowka. Maybe he wasn't a strong person, but he was a genius and his work will remain in my heart forever. Edit: Friends, I understand what you are experiencing... I, too, could not get over this loss, this injustice, this grief for a long time. Do not stand in one place and don't hurt yourself even more with your own emotions. He's dead, that's a fact. He appeared to us in something close - this is also a fact. So is there any point in going through this dirty Laundry, friends? Forget. Leave the truth to those who did not care for him, to those who only need it as an object of dispute and another motivator to sink into the throat of a neighbor. Just say rest in piece and move on.
Wow. That really got me down in the dumps. This is amazing. He was a super talented person! It just reminds you how many talented underrated stars don’t ever get to truly use their talent to its fullest.
i am so so so in love with this.... especially gregg's facial expressions and the comedic timing during the poke it with a stick scene, and the colors and transition into 'just shapes' at the end. it had a Flawless balance of the comedy and heart that this game has, but also the ominous Suburban Gothic tone. i'm just... in love
(Facts) Night in the woods was a game that had characters that were relatable, fun to watch, and had good stories to tell with a soundtrack that took a good amount of time to make (Opinions) i would say this is better than undertale but thats mostly due to the fact its alot more realistic and it mostly focused on story either way its a great game that deserved much more people to talk about it, make videos, etc
I actually hated undertale. Characters weren't believable to me, like they were trying to hard to be relatable, and the one character I started caring about decided it would be a good idea to stop my progression every 3 steps with phone calls, which made me hate her.
I know everyone wants to compare them like, “no, NITW is better because ____” or “Undertale’s better because _____” but honestly I think the only similarity between them is that both are indie games that include animal-like characters with human attributes. I loved them both; they each scratched a different itch for me. I enjoy NITW for its story elements; how it opened a conversation about small town living, mental health, and the act of progression and moving on. It’s a very progressive game and I appreciate that. I enjoy Undertale for the story not told - the world you built inside your head from the pixels and what you gathered from the world around you. I enjoyed how your actions have consequences, which is something I wanted from games for years, and I love how every playthrough is a new experience. I enjoyed how both games brought communities of people together to create, discuss and enjoy themselves, that both communities are still very active to this day, and how some of the people in these communities were able to learn and grow from them (a lot of my students loved Undertale, for example, so I used the game as an example and jumping point when it came to discussions about things like divorce and death. There are definitely topics I think would work well for discussion from NITW as well). They’re both genuinely amazing experiences and indie games, I just can’t feasibly compare them.
@@VonDelacroix but undertale is about monsters underground which are ready to wage war on humanity, I don't understand what you would expect to be believable in a game like that .-.
@@alexsimaimulte5506 A lot of the selling point, at least when I heard about it, is how relatable all the characters were. In fact, a large part of the story is how alike the monsters are, despite appearance. Its why there is a genocide option, its why the game frowns on you killing monsters, because those monsters are people too. I see why people like it, but to me, it feels forced, characters feel flat. I love the idea, hated the execution.
This kinda just popped up in my Recommend section and watched because, hey, another simple NitW animation, and I had time to kill. Oh my gosh, "simple" is certainly not what it was! So many shots, and they flowed so well together, and the voice acting matched the characters perfectly. This looks so much like an actual trailer I want a mini-series made! Lovely work, you should be proud!
This is absolutely incredible. The animation is smooth, the artwork is great, and the voice acting is spot on. This obviously had a lot of hard work and time put into it, your efforts are notable. I know that stuff like this is hard to do, so the fact that you finished it and it turned out the way that it did is inspiring. Keep up the good work, you are amazing!
Great job! The animation is fluid, the expressions match the tone of the character, and I especially love the little addition of shapes flying in the 1:44 sequence! You've definitely got talent, keep working hard!
Hard to put it all into words, but this game is the most Millennial goddamn thing I ever played. It perfectly captures the pain of living in a world that seems to have moved on without you, and where no-one around you seems to realize there’s something wrong. You’re burned out, bitter, glum, and angry, and you have no idea if the future’s even worth living for because you don’t feel like you have one. So all you can do is find your people, the ones you love so much it hurts, and hold them tight, and therein find your happiness.

It’s better off as a cult hit like OFF than a oversaturated game.
Yeah, it's for the best that it's a small but dedicated fandom and not this massive hit like Undertale.

As a minor animator i am, i know its very hard to animate. But this...

*Link8304* I completely agree
Yes this dose need to be a movie
You know, this would translate pretty well into an animated movie. The whole game pretty much plays out like one too.
But the only big obstacle in the way of all of this is all the extra content in the game. If people were to try and condense this game down into a 2 hour film, they might take out a shitload of content seeing how much has been added to the game (especially the directors cut).
Other than that, this would translate well into an animated film if done the right way!
Funny, the voice for Greg and Mae are actually my head cannon voices.
Same, and Mae and Angus were pretty close to mine too! I wish the recording quality didn't change so drastically between characters, but the voices were all great anyway. This seriously brought tears to my eyes and inspired me to start yet another playthrough!

"At the end of everything, hold on to anything." I just find that super funny because those are two of the achievements in Night in the Woods.
It's like the slogan of the game so makes sense
At the End of Everything, hold on to Anything. Good words to live by
(Facts) Night in the woods was a game that had characters that were relatable, fun to watch, and had good stories to tell with a soundtrack that took a good amount of time to make
(Opinions) i would say this is better than undertale but thats mostly due to the fact its alot more realistic and it mostly focused on story either way its a great game that deserved much more people to talk about it, make videos, etc
@@VonDelacroix uhh ok but like the characters are relatable..
