Chris is hands down my favourite comedian and it's honestly nice to see he didn't arrive on this earth the funniest person alive, he struggled. He is human. I am human.
I’m happy to say in the time since this set occurred, very long ago, Chris has blossomed into a bonafide cult sensation, with a dedicated audience and a truly unique style. Watching his newest stuff for the first time tends to trigger one of two reactions, depending on who you are: Either you feel like you’re watching classified found footage of an extra terrestrial, speaking in tongues and performing elaborate, potentially obscene rituals, OR, you feel like _you_ are the extra terrestrial, and Chris is the first being to make contact in your native language since you crash landed on this bizarre and hostile planet.
And while he was still developing his unique style. He already had his Gayle character, but the “standard standup” jokes fell a little flat. There were hints of the direction he eventually took, but he lost the audience early on and never got them back.
so cool to see the evolution of gayle waters-waters. A bit like watching early andy kaufman the crowd doesn't know what to do with such absurdist stuff lol
Poor Baby Chris. I love how he's trying to do Jerry Seinfeld because he isn't good at observational comedy yet, and half way through he gives up and starts doing Gayle bits. It's okay honey, you'll get better.
So much talent! Loved you clip. Not laughing much because the timing was a little off. When you do the bit on birds just pop in with an experience of being sexually harassed by birds practicing that bit after repeatedly being shot on for months.
Nah, he just needed to find his crowd. He is actually fairly successful in his personal stand up shows that he's in more control than his road stand up. You see, road comedy audiences who go to comedy clubs in their local area expect more since they don't know who or what type of comedy it's gunna be, so they are put off by Chris's dramatic and obscure, satire based form of observational comedy. He is vastly out of his comfort zone when he can't have pre-setup to his jokes via the stage environment and live production behind it. His special "show pig" is actually well received for the low budget he had to work with. In other words, stick to your day job and get out of the comment section.
Looks like he tries way to hard to be funny stretching things way too long. Lots of energy just not that funny. Needs better material people can relate to
2010 wasn't ready for Chris Fleming
Oh my god, this crowd did NOT deserve this set- glad it can finally get the recognition it deserves!
Woah! Seeing proto-Gayle was a treat!
This crowd had no idea what was before them
oh Chris baby, I’m so sorry this crowd didn’t appreciate you
love the silence after his jokes. really adds the the chris cleming vibe
I love all of a sudden Gayle coming out in this in her pure form

Great set, tough crowd but he got through! I’d watch another of his sets, energy on point

“I was off my face on Terra chips, so I didn’t know right from wrong!” 😝
Love to see the early work of a successful comedian before they found their audience
And while he was still developing his unique style. He already had his Gayle character, but the “standard standup” jokes fell a little flat. There were hints of the direction he eventually took, but he lost the audience early on and never got them back.

I love how funny it was even though the crowd was cold, Chris was all in.
chris really gave 'em the ol' razzle dazzle
Pretty funny, great energy
I feel like I’m watching the birth of gayle
I think he is so funny, I was watching it with the sound off so I didn't notice the dull audience
the world wasn’t ready for gayle yet
This crowd deserves jail, not Gayle
Chris just needed to cook a lil longer
I once dated a man from Stowe. This explains a lot 😅
Just saw him live 2 days ago, such an amazing guy. Hope he comes back to manchester soon :))
I would have been on the floor what a dead crowd
OMG early chris hahahaha
Pearls before swine

He was ahead of his time, simple
Here's a little joke book, Chris Fleming ladies and gentlemen, there he goes..

I was looking for this comment!!!
I wonder how old this is? He's ageing backwards
2010, according to the description, so 13 years old right now. If it were a child, already doing moderately complicated maths at school.
the crowd was no not it
