As a space wolf player I am super thankful for this video. I have a redemptor that I started painting but I never use; this video has really inspired me to get painting a Redemptor next and see how he does. Hopefully my impulsors do some screening.
So as a long time Wolf player and someone who stubbornly played the competively throughout 8th I figured I could share my thoughts here on Wolves in 9th. PROs: 1. It is a mid-board game now. Wolves have always been an army that excels on pushing and winning the middle of the table. We wont win a lot of games on killing but pusbing and holdinf objectives...forcing other armies to hug their deployment zone...that we can do. 2. Outflanking Dreads! Seriously the combat dreads for wolves are spectacular pressure pieces they could just never get to threat range fast enough. The ability to outflank them really shakes that up. 3. Primaris Bike Wolf Priest. So this is gonna be a game changer for those outflanking wolves. It massively increases the potential for where we can outflank and make those sweet sweet 7 inch charges. 4. New bikes in general....good swiftclaws? Yes please. 5. Smaller board...good for melee and board pressure armies in general. Cons: 1. Tanks got better. This isn't as bad for wolves as a lot of melee armies. We tended to just scrap tanks rather then tag them so...thats a thing. Tanks shooting into combat is also annoying. 2. Defender swinging first after charges. This is a harsh hit in a lot of ways as it makes us have to consider our charges and sustained combats more carefully. 3. Points hits to iconic units and Impulsors. Relatively hard hits to our best units and our best delivery options is going to make list building different. Short thoughts at the moment may add more later.
Wait where in the rules does it say that charging units fight first? And if that is a rule I am refusing to play 9th edition or I'll ignore that rule as melee was already weaker than shooting in 8th edition.
Thank you Bradgier I am happy for every new video you guys are bringing out. I agree on Bridgers feeling towards Predators, but since points will be a more limited resource in 9th, three of them are still a hefty price to pay. I find balancing holding power vs killyness to be a very tough choice with them however. Very excited for the upcoming game with them. And again, thank you. I really appreciate all the effort you guys are putting in. I have been following the chanel from the very start and the three of you are my favourite YT TT team by far. I wish I had people like you in my local community. Love from germany!
While it wouldn’t be practical to redo all the great videos you’ve done, would you consider perhaps posting on Facebook any thoughts you have about how to handle the points changes for the factions you’ve already done?
I loved my SW Dread list in 8th and it just got better in 9th! Bjorn, Iron Priest, WFBL w/jump pack (reroll 1's to wound), Njal (cast the cover power + pop the -1 to hit strat), 3x Ven dread (1x ax+shield, 1x twin las + claw, 1x twin las + Missile), Leviathan Dread (w/ twin Storm Cannons), 2x razorbacks (w/twin assault cannons), 2x 5 man long fangs (all bolt guns, +1 LD and a free reroll 1's over GH), and 3x 5 man intercessor squads (2 with fists).
Unfortunately space wolves lost the 6” intervention with most of their characters, but now all units have 3” for SW also there were some other tweaks that makes this no longer accurate. Would love an update vid. These vids are great
Although I don’t have Space Wolves, one of my take always from this vid is that tacticals in a rhino may actuallly be viable now in in non competitive game. Looks at my 40 tacticals and 4 rhinos painted up as pre heresy Death Guard....
Same here! Lots of relevant stuff in this one though, character protection, cc shenanigans, heroic intervention (using the strat to allow one our units to HI 6" etc). Great channel!
With all the points increase etc it honestly feels like GW just want us all to buy the same vanilla Primaris models. Very annoying. I will not be adding the Blade Guard Veterans to my Space Wolves army as we are not Knights of the 40k Round Table. We are f***ing Space Vikings! Very unfair of them to make TWC and Wulfen even more expensive. These are our most iconic units and I was hoping to use them in 9th as combat armies seem to have more of a fighting chance in 9th.
Wulfen are undercosted in 9th. They are slightly more expensive than Deathwing Knights (with hammers/shields) and absolutely wipe the floor with them. And that was in a scenario that didn't involve half their abilities.
Don't gimp yourself just because you don't like the box art presentation. TWC and Wulfen are still quite good. Wulfen were severely undercosted previously, while now they're a little more reasonable for the utility and auras they provide.
Not sure if it was missed or you didn't see it at the time. But defender's strike first, if Ragnar has his warlord trait he'll be fighting first which counters out the charging warboss's fight first allowing Ragnar to make his strikes and fell the warboss.
Would love to see you guys do a video on Black Templar in 9th at some point if you can fit it in your schedule. Love the content fellas, keep up the good work!
Since Seventh I have always paired Bjorn and Njarl Stormcaller with my Longfangs because usually, the Longfangs would be up high for board coverage and in cover, but if they couldn't get cover the "Stormcaller" power plus "Cloaked by the Storm makes them almost impossible to kill in one turn. And with the Signum and Bjorn's reroll 1's the Longfangs become very devastating, especially if you give Bjorn a Plasma Cannon or Twin lascannon for long-range firepower. Then with a Landraider full of Bloodclaws coming at them and a Pack of 4-5 Thunderwolves racing towards them, the enemy has a hard time selecting targets. Now to be more points effective I would only take 2 Thunderwoilves with Thunderhammer and Stormshield, but give 2 others Chainswords and Stormshields, with a possible 5th just Chainsword and Bolter as cannon fodder, or a HQ.
My Girflriend got into Space Wolves for the Thunderwolves, i am sure we will try to make them work in her lists but its sad that they are still nerfing them.
Watched this video when it first came out but after deciding to play some Wolves over Salamanders, That’s right I said over salamanders, I figured a rewatch was in order.
Thank you guys so much! I have failed to articulate what I needed in this game for a long time. I don't want meta\min\max bullroar. I want tactics like this on how to maximize my units I choose to play with. I HATE the flea bitten muts! But this kind of army is what I want to play. Not plot hammer marines. Thanks again, keep up the amazing work.
Can we get a Squats in 9th video please?? My rules keep breaking in every edition, and my codex is just a bunch of White Dwarfs stapled together. I'm really starting to think that GW forgot about us.
Thank you for making this video about the Space Wolves. Much needed. Not much on Space Wolf tactica lately. Also, what is that Wulfen contemptor dreadnought looking model towards the front lined up with the other dreadnoughts on a rock? I've been looking for the model everywhere & can't seem to find it.
I’m only 15 minutes into the video however I noticed you have not yet touched on how to navigate past screens after combat. With Ragnar and chaplains/wolf priest canticle of hate ability you are able to consolidate 6 inches. So your opponent will need to be smarterWith those screens on the smaller table. Which may place them out of position for objectives if they have to space out in order to avoid you consolidating into them. With practice a good space wolf player won’t have a problem Staying in combat. Also there is 3 ways for us to fight first. There is the warlord trait Saga of the warrior born which makes us fight first so heroically intervening into an existing combat is safer. Plus the judicar and Armor of Russ you mentioned. Ragnar comes with the saga of warrior born trait if he is warlord or takes the hero of the chapter strat.
Great video covering my fav chapter of Space Marines! Those two lists look pretty good! I was theorycrafting one with many assault intercessors to control the board, just like your White Scar list from the Space Marines review video, and some iconic thunder wolves for the extra punch. What do you think? Can't wait for that battle report featuring the sons of Russ!
Hi, i've start to collect a Space Wolves army with primaris spaces marines. Ragnar has a sqad of infiltrators (Prophecy of the wolf box set), but the only veicle wo can carries them is an Inpulsor or Repulsor. is that right? how did you fit them in a list? Any suggestion for a list with primaris? Ty for your video! very appriciated!
Starting with indomitus and finding it so hard picking between space wolves or dark angels 😂😶. Love melee and plasma and both fluff. So thanks a ton for this and hope to see one with dark angels!
I would love to hear your take on White Scars. I know y'all have said that you love them for the new edition, so any idea if/when that video might be coming out?
With a single detachment, the hero-centric Wolves will have far fewer characters to use their special heroic intervention with... Taking more than 3 characters will be very difficult. This is a bigger hit on the wolves than it may seem at first.
Actually no people now might play space wolves for the silly units that make no scence. But back in Rogue Trader days I started space wolves cause Russ was quoted alot and the camo drawings of.them. In 2nd edition they were a blast. In 3/4 edition they won me every tournament i played in. Now I will see what Grey Hunters are like. I dont see your being out shot thing. I use to pepper people down. And then charge in to finish them.
The impulsor went up quite a lot of points in 9th edition, likely because impulsor rush would have been so strong. It's still a viable strategy but we believe that with the new points, blood claws in razorbacks gives you more flexibility in the rest of the army.
I'm a new player who has been building my army over the last year or so. Not very big yet and I'm not heavy into meta play yet. Currently I have mostly primaris units(from dark imperium, tooth and claw and shadowspear.) Next week I'll be adding the models from indomitus to that list. I have Ragnar, Njarl in terminator armor and Ajac as characters, two redemtors and a squad of wolf lord terminators. Seems like I need to invest in Murderfang and at least a couple of razorbacks and or predators. I'm wondering how effective the primaris from the shadowspear box will be for space wolves in 9th. I'm considering building Black Templars down the road. Should I move those units to that faction? I've learned a lot form this video thanks.
I haven’t played since 2nd edition (showing my age) I have bought the Indomitus box. I previously played Ultramarines mainly because my friends at the time already played the other factions. My question is what Space Marine faction is in the best shape early in 9th? I am contemplating Imperial Fists, Blood Angels or Space Wolves. Imperial Fists might be a bit too generic for me.
Love the video, really looking forward to trying blood claws with Razorbacks. However I've heard Thunderwolves have only gone up 3 points per model, does that still make them too expensive?
Do you think with the points changes and the 9th edition rules changes that a list with 3 max units of thunderwolf cavalry would be viable? What would you include in a list with these 3 units to make it work.
Great video as always :) Good to see some first born love and for my fravourite faction. But with talk of this being a shooty edition, holding mid field objectives and staying power, you don't mention Grey hunters at all despite also having chainswords and can shoot. Why is that?
First of all nice video, thank you for your nice content but all in all the new edition seems a bit dissapointing for the Space Wolves, because there is so many unique stuff that was previously a Space Wolves thing, like outflanking manouvers, which now can be peformed by every army. The Judiciar, includes the "Armor off Russ" ability to every Space Marine faction. The heroic intervention is, as showed in this video, a no longer reliable tactic in many cases... the points increasing for the most iconic Space Wolves choices, and so on and on. Big squads of Blood Claws are also no longer a good choice, depending on the new blast rules. Also the new charge rules ( multiple charges) and the lack of statisticly reliable charge movement...and if the storm shield changes will be part in a new Wolves Dex, Wulfen are suffer the most if this change are going to come, from my point of view there are almost unplayable with 4+ invurnable saves against ap-1 weapons or higher, at least if they had the same price tag on them. Im very sceptical about a new rule book which fit´s the uniqueness of the Wolves in future Codex releases.
and it gets worse cos they are getting rolled back into the codex and getting a stupid supplement for their unique units. I love the game but god do I hate gw sometimes :(
Amazing review! New Marine player hero, maybe ya'll can help. So right now I've got the new box coming, and like another 1k points in intercessors, reivers, and a redemptor dreadnought. I've been struggling on whether or not I should play UltraMarines for the fallback and shoot, Iron Fist for the bolter bonuses, or SpaceWolves because I love the characters. Out of what I own though, I don't think it's a good choice to go SpaceWolves because i don't have any of the old marines, any vehicles, none of the characters, and half the army isn't melee based. So what would be the best fit for an all Primaris army?
All of the first founding chapters are really good. More melee units will come for Primaris so wait for those, and read the lore of each chapter and pick your favorite. Or play all of them like I do.
Ohhh Am I the only one that caught Brian in a slipped swear word? Tut tut sir lol.😉. Loving your content as always guys but your one of the reasons I want to buy more armies. My wife doesn't like you as much as me for that. I'm really looking forward to your Drukhari ideas as I have two drukhari battleforce boxes in my closet waiting for their 9th codex.🤞
I’m interested in playing the tabletop, but my two favorite factions are the space wolves astartes and the death korp of Krieg guardsman, I’m not familiar with the rules though and I want to use Space wolves Astartes but I also want to use Krieg guardsman, do any veteran players know the rules and if this is possible? I’m not 100% sure but since they are both imperium factions is combining them an option? Any help is appreciated and I’m super excited to learn how to play, helpful answers only please, no negative commentary. Thanks guys, for the Emperor!
I am picking up the indomitus box mainly for necrons, but also want to start a space wolves army with the marines part of it. Any advice for doing that? What Else should I get to make it a decent 1000-1500 pts army?
Hey thanks guys for this nice focus! I tried some lists on the paper and I'm not so fond of the razorback with blood claws when you have soon assault intercessors and flying 4++ impulsors for not that much more. What do you think?
Wow, I didn't realize the bloodclaws were such a bad choice over assault intercessors. For only 5 points more you get an extra attack, heavy bolt pistols, and don't have to charge the closest unit. The only thing I'm seeing is the Blood claws get an extra attack if they charged and that only makes them equal with AI attacks. I'm still new and this is my first army, so if I'm missing something please tell me.
You guys mentioned the Dreadnoughts with Claws and Shields, do you mean the Venerable dreadnoughts with the Axe and Shield? Or am I missing a way to give the base dreads a shield?
Go to deep strike my wolf lord in terminator armor with a 5 man squad of terminators. Termies made the charge but character didn't. All by himself and got shot out...
To be honest, if you are not using Stormfang or Stormwolf to deliver some units they are not really worth it. Way too expensive for how easily they die. If I could guarantee 2 rounds of shooting out of them I would probably pick one just for the shooting but most of the times that doesn't happen.
The codex compliant chapters were stripped of their killshot by Guilliman himself. Only the wolves of Fenris and the angels of Baal dare to tap into the ancient technology that powers the killshot stratagem.
as a longtime wolf player, but I have to disagree about bloodclaws. The changes to combat combined with their points increase this edition (undoubtedly to sell the assault intercessors) makes an already situational troop choice even less appealing. I love them but there's sadly no incentive to take them as anything other than a barebones troop tax
The Space Wolves fight first Warlord trait will let a single charging unit fight first so unless you use a supporting Judiciar or HQ with the Armour of Russ he’s getting hit first if charged or he HI into chargers.
As a space wolf player I am super thankful for this video.
I have a redemptor that I started painting but I never use; this video has really inspired me to get painting a Redemptor next and see how he does. Hopefully my impulsors do some screening.

Did you just say:
"Assault Cannons.... *with claws?"*
.... that's so metal.

I agree on Bridgers feeling towards Predators, but since points will be a more limited resource in 9th, three of them are still a hefty price to pay.

Agreed it would be nice to hear if points changed any thoughts you’d had.
Or post a sticky under the videos.

Not finding too much for army builds using ragnar in 9e, would love to see some!
Loving all of these "How to play 9th ed" videos. Any schedule plan for the remaining factions? Iron Hands please? :D
Dan Gess There is a schedule in the Community-Part of the Channel. About a week ago.
Awesome guys! Stoked to see Adepta Sororitas!
Can't wait for the imput on the Sons of Sanguinius in this new edition!
Same here! Lots of relevant stuff in this one though, character protection, cc shenanigans, heroic intervention (using the strat to allow one our units to HI 6" etc). Great channel!
"sons of sanguinius" stinks of HERESEY sir! lol
With all the points increase etc it honestly feels like GW just want us all to buy the same vanilla Primaris models. Very annoying. Atleast TW hq's might be worth taking now.
Armour of Russ, fellas, not Belt of Russ. The Belt just replaces the Iron Halo. The Armour is the Relic that makes a unit Fight last.
Watched this video when it first came out but after deciding to play some Wolves over Salamanders, That’s right I said over salamanders, I figured a rewatch was in order.
Requesting a Thousand Sons in 9th edition on the Space Wolves video : )
A good a time as any to remind everybody that Magnus did nothing wrong.

Thanks for the tips. What about all the demons that can take away your saves so you can't do anything? How do you deal with that?
With a single detachment, the hero-centric Wolves will have far fewer characters to use their special heroic intervention with...
Taking more than 3 characters will be very difficult. This is a bigger hit on the wolves than it may seem at first.
Kevin Patrick make sure to use the elite characters as well (Judicar, Murderfang). If running a Blood claw heavy list, maybe even Lukas could fit!
Didn't Tabletop Titans post a video about spacewolves mainly running dreadnauts? I can't seem to find it.
I’ve been waiting for this one! Can you do Grey Knights soon, too?
They have
How did or what did you get, to have that Bjorn look so cool? I am looking to try and make one like the one here in video.

I love the game but god do I hate gw sometimes :(
RagnarisFellhanded unfortunatley you are right. Lets hope the best and prepare for the worst.
@@xyriskalamax lore wise they're all awesome. I'll probably just stick with Fist since they seem to do a strong gun line, which I find awesome
What do you mean by Space Wolves still have Killshot for the tanks, while most other factions no longer have it?
So correct me if I'm wrong here. Space Wolves have lost the killshot stratagem now, following the release of their codex?
Nice vid! Where's that mat from?
Just run ragnar and bjorn? What about some lists for those of us who bought more primaris, or who dont run ragnars company and made our own.
Just FYI, Blood Angels also still have Killshot ;)
The iron wolves are back baby!
Hey thanks guys for this nice focus!
I tried some lists on the paper and I'm not so fond of the razorback with blood claws when you have soon assault intercessors and flying 4++ impulsors for not that much more. What do you think?
Whats the cost difference?
Just starting and have Indomitus box with 2 combat patrols and a Ragnor. What's a good 2k with this?
Wow, I didn't realize the bloodclaws were such a bad choice over assault intercessors. For only 5 points more you get an extra attack, heavy bolt pistols, and don't have to charge the closest unit. The only thing I'm seeing is the Blood claws get an extra attack if they charged and that only makes them equal with AI attacks. I'm still new and this is my first army, so if I'm missing something please tell me.
This is my current list after some research but no actual play time yet.
I would greatly appreciate any pointers from veteran SW players.
Thanks in advance

Now can you do the cool melee marines next?
I've just started space wolves , is a wolflord on thunderwolf a rune priest , 2 squads of blood claws and a razorback a good crusade starting force?
That was the video for yesterday? 🤔
What model is that at 2:07 it looks like some sort of terminator armour. Any help would be appreciated, I’m very new to 40k
You guys mentioned the Dreadnoughts with Claws and Shields, do you mean the Venerable dreadnoughts with the Axe and Shield? Or am I missing a way to give the base dreads a shield?
You can equip wulfen dread with claw and shield
Are the new points out as this is the first video you confirmed changes?
So the next battle report will be Wolfs Vs Sons?
Also I'm interested what the later faction gained/lost in 9th eddition.
No it's Wolves vs Tyranids.
@@dusting2706 Oh! ok Than I made a mistake.
Thank you! This is amazing!
Glad you like it!
space wolves should be OP af to balance out everyone making fun of them all the time
They are OP. When they get you that is
The Deathwatch needs a vid too!
Go to deep strike my wolf lord in terminator armor with a 5 man squad of terminators. Termies made the charge but character didn't. All by himself and got shot out...
Do Blood Angels!
do space wolf still have the kill shot stratagems?
Still holding out for a 9th ed raven guard vid.
I am really looking forward to paying CP to keep my stormfangs in reserve so they can do some damage instead of getting shot down turn 1!
What is their cost like in 9th?
@@andrevanas85 a stormwolf with twin helfrost, 2x lascannons and 2x twin multimelta is 390....
@@matthewlock6677 that is a hefty cost... as much as i love those flyers they are just rediculously overpriced.
To be honest, if you are not using Stormfang or Stormwolf to deliver some units they are not really worth it.
Way too expensive for how easily they die.
If I could guarantee 2 rounds of shooting out of them I would probably pick one just for the shooting but most of the times that doesn't happen.
When will Dark Angels be up?
Is it charge into Close combat? I bet it is?
Wait, space wolves are the only faction that have kill shot? I thought all space marines had the kill shot stratgem :/
Me too, I think it still exists but idk.
Kill shot is still in the Blood Angel's codex as well.
Regular marines lost it in the new codex.
one of the FAQs removed it from the space marine codex. BA and SW still have it however
The codex compliant chapters were stripped of their killshot by Guilliman himself. Only the wolves of Fenris and the angels of Baal dare to tap into the ancient technology that powers the killshot stratagem.
@@TabletopTitans Thanks! I didn't realize that.
Awesomeee Space Wolves.
as a longtime wolf player, but I have to disagree about bloodclaws.
The changes to combat combined with their points increase this edition (undoubtedly to sell the assault intercessors) makes an already situational troop choice even less appealing. I love them but there's sadly no incentive to take them as anything other than a barebones troop tax
How to play white scars next?
Space wolves are not the ONLY faction that have killshot. Blood Angels have that strat too.
Well...apparently I need to get myself some more razorbacks (only have 1) and get Bjorn more than the one lonely dreadnaught friend he has....lol
Hey guys, I know this is the wrong video, but what Tau units can shoot in combat? I've been trying to figure it out all week and I have no clue.
Vehicles and Monsters can shoot while in combat at -1 to hit.
I have a question for you.. Ragnar saga allows him to fight first is that mean also in heroic intervention
The Space Wolves fight first Warlord trait will let a single charging unit fight first so unless you use a supporting Judiciar or HQ with the Armour of Russ he’s getting hit first if charged or he HI into chargers.
