The all new Vortex Defender XL is a welcomed addition to the new Vortex Defender CCW and Vortex Defender ST optics.. We mounted the new red dot on our Smith and Wesson M&P Competitor and went to work!
It features a 5 MOA or 8 MOA dot, Leupold DPP footprint, top loading battery with intricate battery clasp, larger competition size window, shock shield, durable and large buttons. It has a 10 minute auto shut off and motion activated on or shake awake. This thing is a direct competitor to the Holosun 507 Comp or the Trijicon SRO but it does everything better!

Bought one, just waiting for it now. Seems to be perfekt for use with both rifles, handguns and shotguns. I´m hoping it will fit great on an Ar-15 with 45 degree offset. And also hoping the wake-up function is rather sensitive so I won´t have to shake the rifle ^^

As a Chinese viewer I'd say it looks more American-made than many other brands such as Gideon and Viridian🤣. Would love to give it a try if I can get one with sale prices. Did you get any measurements of the deck height? I wonder if it's truly as tall as the DPP.

Didn’t say it wasn’t made in China. I did say it was an American company and an optic that doesn’t look like it was made in China. Kinda like an iPhone.
He means looks like surely in reference to the limited diversity in optic and gun sight design. I like this move forward, it'd look gorgeous on top of a deagle

Calculated kinetics makes a popular optics plate for the m&p series to address just that issue with the gas blowback into the optic. Unfortunately they don’t make one for the DPP footprint YET (fingers crossed) but I could see that optic being very tall when combined with another already tall plate.
I saw that plate, it is very thick. It’s not a huge issue and only effected me after shooting 150 rounds or so consecutively
Real cool, I have to say Vortex gives you all the screws needed for a ton of options only outdone by Olights new dot giving you a ton of screws in an awesome case. Not the best but pushing the standard.
That Olight red dot is hard no for me, but it’s neat idea.

Looking for a new red dot for the xr920, can’t decide between the vortex st or the Rmr 🤷♂️
The RMR or the 507C or T have become standards but I have started trying more of the Defender STs and I love them. Larger window, crisper dot, good battery life , durable and still get cowitness on there

I really hate that they went with DPP footprint but if I end up needing this footprint I'd be interested in this!
Fortunately there is a plethora of pistols out of the both which use this footprint and within the market, 1/3 of the market uses DPP.

It's nearly impossible to make something in America and produce a product with a reasonable price tag.
Fan of Vortex - second to none in customer service. Got the micro and love it. As for the “doesn’t look like it’s made in China” comment…it’s made in China. It’s not far off from the Holosun either, which is Chinese.
As for the 8 MOA, not sure if you had one, but if so, thoughts? Is it too much, even with the larger glass?
Yes it’s made in China and no it looks better than the optic that says Holosun based in China who also manufacturers optics for the Chinese army. Big difference.

Be ok, for me, 5 MOA is borderline too big for my liking.
My biggest complaint about the Defender ST. the optic goes to sleep after 10 minutes, when you wake it up, the buttons are no longer locked out. After confirming with vortex that it was designed to do that, I ended up returning mine. Did they fix that on the Defender XL?
I can’t say they fixed that as the majority of
People asked for that. Your optic is long going to sleep in your waist band or riding in the cupholder of a car. So checking dot, confirming load when leaving the house should be checked. The button lock out is only useful for carry usage. This being a competition centric dot negates the need for a lot of those features too if you think about it, but they give them anyway.

Looks like a nice optic, but they really need to set it up for a multiple reticle system. That's why I love my holosuns, I can change my reticle based on my needs.
Understandable but that is shooter preference and the concept is nice for those who like it
I'm glad vortex takes care of you and sends you new replacements for warranty. My experience is completely opposite. My vortex viper went back to them twice because it can't hold a zero and both times they sent the same one back to me still broken. In the end they told me that's normal deal with it. So much for vip warranty.

@@HuntFishShootChannel my TTi has 3 plates included I’ve tried all the plates. But the defender XL is long it wont slide in the optic cut of the TTi combat. By any chance have you tried the Defender XL on your TTI?
