One other thing you forgot to mention is the the Defender XL comes with all the mounting screws to fit different applications & they are all marked. I have one & it far outshines any other dot i have tried especially on a very sunny day...just saying
Just snagged a Defender XL for 299 shipped. I have been a Holosun fan for years, got a half dozen if their pistol dots, but after using a Defender ST for the last couple months it felt like a no brainer for $100 less than the 507comp. Vortex has really redeemed themselves from the Venom/Viper era of dots that were kinda dog crap (im on my 3rd Venom on my Mark IV).
The defender series is good. We have a video coming out. Sometimes they make sense over holosun. If the pricing was cheaper on them i think they would be more popular
Thanx Freedom Gorilla for all the good content you put out there explaining all the options out there for optics. If I'd have known how much trouble it was to put an optic on the Sig pistols I would never have purchased one! For whatever reason they found it necessary to complicate a reasonably straight forward process of installing an optic. I guess it was to create a market for their proprietary red dots. Well I have been waiting for someone else to enter that market and finally Holosun and Vortex have done that! I currently have 2 Vortex and 1 Holosun red dots and will try the Defender XL on my M18. Once again keep on keeping on!
The 507 Comp's battery life is based on 12 hours usage a day to get 50.000 hours on setting 6 The Defender XL's battery life is based on 24 hours usage a day to get 25.000 hours on setting 6 Making it 50.000 hours based on 12h usage as well. So is it a wash? The 507 Comp has 12 settings, 2 NV...is the medium brightness the 6th setting? Is it the 4th daylight setting? The Def XL has 10 settings, 2 NV, 4th daylight setting. Which is brighter on both red versions? Tint? The line of sight on the 507 Comp is 0.72'' (18,3mm), no info on the Def XL. User intuitive...there is a manual. So glad nothing fiddly, this one has a big seal surface. Some innovation for once. The deciding factor will be dot clarity and if I can deal with the overhang on the sides. The big buttons on each side vs two small on one side. I hope for a 2-3 moa XL early next year.
Thanks for the video. On another subject you are displaying the American flag in your background incorrectly. When displayed in this draping configuration ensure the "field" appears in the upper left hand corner as you face the flag. You]re displaying it with the field in the upper right hand corner as you face the flag with is not according to proper etiquette. Thank you.
If it took you "forever" to get the battery compartment open on the XL, then maybe read the manual? You also forgot to mention the Vortex VIP warranty - lifetime replacement on the Defender.
The Defender series are good looking red dots. They look like they belong on a pistol compared to an enclosed emitter that makes the gun look autistic and ugly.

Well done video. Hope Vortex finally has their MRDS act together. It looks like a good option.
Just a heads up... the Vortex will not necessarily fit every gun milled for DPP. It does not fit an Atlas plate system without some filing

The green reticle is what sold me on the Holosun.
Green is the popular by far. I personally run a green 6MOA reticle on a lot of what I own
Holosun every day!

👍🏽 Great video
@@2AVeteran77 thanks for the kind words!
I think I like the size/forma factor of the holosun....but I don't like circle dots....I prefer just like a 6-8 moa dot....

How would you compare to 507 comp to the Ct rad micro pro?
Vortex is missing the boat by not offering the XL in RMR footprint as well.
DPP is a more versatile footprint
@@junderwood6633 It’s so much easier to find precut RMR slides though.

Why does it matter how many hours a day you use it? Hours are hours man

Thank you! I flipped it now!
Do you happen to know if these are good if you have an astigmatism?
No they’re. Not unfortunately
That really depends. You have to check for yourself. Nobody can answer that with any certainty as all astigmatism ate different
Bro you look like OvertonWindex

Can't figure out how to change the battery? Really? That's why it comes with an owner's manual. AMATEUR!
