Ronnie Platt didn't join the band until 2014 when Steve Walsh retired. Steve Walsh was a phenomena singer and keyboard player! Tasha this song was written by guitarist Kerry Livgren he was the main writer for the band and yes he was on a spiritual journey,he left and changed to Christian music. He was an amazing lyricist and writer. You need to listen to "Miracles out of nowhere" and "The Wall"

Straight up LOVE Tasha's breakdown of the lyrics.... This song is much more than a vocals and instrumental storm of a song. Just as importantly are the lyrics in this song and I was so thankful to see the introspective breakdown...Both of you bring so much to the table in these reactions so thanks for the time and effort y'all put in to make these videos. Pease keep on bringing us these great reactions!!!

CONGRATS for listening to the studio version, which is better by far than whatever live version you could dig up. Now you need to follow it up with "Cheyenne Anthem," which is about the settlers war with the Cheyenne Indians in the 19th century. Same album as this song.

All of the music of Kansas is very profound and extremely spiritual. The Wall, Portrait (He Knew), Miracles Out of Nowhere, Dust in he Wind, etc. Have very spiritual lyrics and the band were all master musicians. Carry On My Wayward Son is their signature song and yes , v ery deep and spiritual lyrically. Steve Walsh was the original vocalist and phenomenal keyboardist.

I honestly don't understand reaching adulthood without hearing some of these truly iconic songs. Audiences were more self-segregated before my time, but things changed starting in the mid-70s with radio and just life. I knew the big songs from before my generation and outside of my preferred genres. We seem to be self-segregating again via Spotify playlists, etc.

My youth was in the 60s-70s and I remember being struck by the depth of Carry On My Wayward Son, and later Dust In The Wind, songs that made me think about what I was going to do with my life and it helped me on my journey that has kept me close to God and family.
Dust In The Wind, also written by Kerry Livgren, essentially completes the spiritual journey, you absolutely must listen to it, even if you don't do a reaction video.

Kansas is Mt all time favorite band from 1974 to the present. Kansas original line up from their debut album Kansas to Audio Visions is: Kerry Livgren-Guitars, Keyboards, and songwriter, Steve Walsh-Lead Vocals, Keyboards, Percussion, Robbie Steinhardt-Violin, Lead Vocals, Phil Ehart-Drums,Rich Williams-Guitars, and Dave Hope-Bass. Kerry Livgren received Christ in 1979 and in 1980 Audio Visions came out. Steve Walsh left after the Audio Visions album because he didn't want to sing Christian lyrics. In 1982 Vinyl Confessions came out with new lead singer John Elefante(great voice), guitars, keyboards, songwriter and he was a christian as well. After Vinyl Confessions Robbie Steinhardt left as well. Drastic Measures came out in 1983. After Drastic Measures, both Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope formed AD, a Christian rock band. Because I'm a Christian man I'm going to promote AD'S albums, all of which are phenomenal: Time Line, Art Of The State, Reconstructions, and Prime Mover. Their are only 2 original members left Phil Ehart and Rich Williams; Billy Grier their bass player has been with them since 1986 on the Power album, plus Steve Walsh came back, and Steve Morse on guitar. Ronnie Platt has been their lead vocalist on their 2 latest albums Prelude Implicit and Absence Of Presence (phenomenal albums.) I hope you react to more Kansas! Kansas all the way to Leftoverture are great progressive rock albums, but don't sleep on Monolith and Audio Visions. Carry On Wayward Son and Dust In The Wind are obvious places to start, but like the Boston debut, not a filler on Leftoverture. Point Of Know Return, Masque, Song For America, and the debut is great, too. Lonely Wind was their first single, Can I Tell You, The Pinnacle, and Journey From Mariabronn. Song For America, Incomudro-Hymn To The Atman, Icarus Borne On Wings Of Steel, Closet Chronicles, Lighting's Hand, Sparks Of The Tempest, Nobody's Home, Portrait He Knew, People Of The Southwind, Relentless, Hold On, Got To Rock On are from the first 5 albums! Thank you for reacting to Kansas, I hope to see and hear more.

Yeah, man, this song if from a time back when bands made music using a thing called "instruments". What they would do is hold or sit down at the instrument and apply their hands or breath or feet, maybe with a pick or sticks, and operate the instruments to make sounds in melodies and harmonies.
There was ZERO programming or interfaces required.
Heh, heh, heh... I'm super old.

just because you finished a journey doesn't mean that you are home. Just because you have cleared your bucket list doesn't mean that you are dead. I think that the song is about a continuation of struggle through the hardships even as you may doubt the struggle itself. There is no resting, just carrying on, come what may. I'm pretty sure that nobody died because it would be counter to the overall theme of the song to lay down and die. Just my opinion.

Back when they toured this album for some reason Kansas NEVER played in Nebraska. I lived there so a buddy and I had to go to Red Rocks Colorado(God's Cathedral). Very well worth the trip and a nice ride on a couple of Harleys with our girls. 300 miles each way with roughly $1 a gallon for gas on bikes. Hell yeah.😎😎
I've seen them since then with the new band members in Reno (Harrah's former outdoor venue) Still killin' it.
    I still have this LP./Album.
"Point of Know Return" and "Dust in the Wind" are two other awesome songs from that era 45 years ago.

Yes, this is a very spiritual song and it has a deeper impact other than just nodding your head to some constant beat. Many songs from past decades are like this hence why I can't listen to rap or hip hop because it feels too shallow to me. If you go back to the 1980's you'll hear a lot of European music that took over America for a while and was called "Disco" music, which has a constant beat to it and was meant for night life bar scenes which a lot of people in Europe were doing. I couldn't wait for Punk music to enter the music scene and wipe out Disco as a bad memory from my own past.
