I’ve always viewed Gohan as one of the most important characters in Dragonball especially with his his destiny. In one timeline Gohan ends up losing his arm and is haunted by the deaths of Goku and the rest of the Dragon Team. In another timeline Gohan becomes a brother, husband and father who is able to his dream of becoming a scholar. Future Gohan life was full of hardship and regret.
Goku being there for him was the difference. Future Gohan lost his arm & died, but Teen Gohan was down an arm and still managed to save the world due to Goku being there for him. Also, when Gohan goes ssj with Goku, he mentions how he failed everybody when they needed him the most, Future Gohan felt the same way, except worse because everybody died & he was too helpless to save them. The depression was real for Future Gohan

Future Gohan was written when Power Creep was not anticipated to be a problem. It was a very big deal that Future Gohan could not beat the Androids originally.
Trunks in main timeline unlocked straight up unlocked Mastered SSJ at the age of 8. Whereas in future timeline, he had SSJ for years and train in time chamber for 2 years before unlocking it. It shows that the present trunks was born with greater power & potential. Likewise future Gohan may not have had a fraction of potential that current Gohan does.
This is the best explanation I've heard so far on why Gohan couldn’t reach SS2 in the future timeline. Everything from the need for proper training and rest, comparing power growth to muscle development, to the lack of a master and his own self-doubt makes sense
Facts man people be calling him weak when in the manga Gohan was like under 50 percent of their power which in comparison to android 19 and 20 and future and present z fighters who handled and the other killed with ease in their first encounter with them the exception of present vegeta who he is under in power which goes to show that this version of future Gohan isn't as weak as alot of people make him out to be.

Regardless of power level, Future Gohan is definitely the coolest version of Gothan and definitely the most interesting. Despite losing everything he never lost hope, regardless of how dark things got he kept fighting until the very end. That is the definition of a hero.
The more I think about it he is an amazingly written character for how little he appears, basically a master roshi and to have enough foresight to know trunks would be the one
Also everything he does could be seen as setting up trunks to be the one to save the world, meaning he probably knew since the beginning he was the key and his death was a necessary part in that

I was always curious if future Gohan used to look up at the night sky as a kid yelling and screaming to hear his father's voice or piccolos, or krillin,' king Kai's. Or anyone to tell him they were in contact with new namek and they will fix everything. But after a while he just gave up and decided to shoulder this responsibility that even his father wouldn't have survived.
Makes complete sense why he couldn’t beat them. Trunks needed the time chamber and training with Vegeta in order to rise up to the challenge, and without Goku unlocking Gohans latent sayain power in the time chamber he wouldn’t have stood a chance against Cell or the Androids. Plus he couldn’t sense them either, so they probably sprung up on him more often than not.
Yes this was a perfect explanation for Future Gohan. Honestly his progress only shows after he trains with Piccolo and Goku in the android amd cell saga. Never did know the symbol meant that. Maybe at some point he gave up on himself for believing he could beat the androids.
Even though Future Gohan wasn’t strong enough it still doesn’t make sense how considering the way he still had senzu beans from Future Korin it didn’t make sense how Future Korin didn’t mention Future Mr.Popo, or even the hyperbolic time chamber. Future Gohan was let down by Future Master Roshi who decided to cower in the fear as his experience as a martial artist could have helped Future Gohan and Trunks in some way. It’s unfortunate how Future Gohan ended up getting his soul erased, but aside from Future Master Roshi not helping Future King Kai was absolutely useless when it came to the threat of Goku Black who was a threat to the universe, still makes no sense how he didn’t contact or warn Future Trunks about Goku Black since he did something similar by warning Kami about Frieza
The H.O.T special makes future gohan kinda of more depressing (not because of his weakness but his final battle and trunks unlocking super saiyan made, future gohan even and even more depressing to me.)
It's more like if he had taken proper rest in between his losses and training with Trunks over the years, the chances of him overcoming the androids(1v1 or 1v2) would have skyrocketed. But his mindset and constant conflict wouldn't allow for those chances to exist.

At the very least with Kami and Gokus relationship, at least Goku should’ve been able to communicate. That’s just my opinion though.
Since s-cells are a thing now, I guess it makes sense that gohan couldn't get any significant zenkais from getting beaten up, nor could he ascend past super saiyan. He had no proper training fundamentals from goku and piccolo due to their deaths, he became angry and depressed from constant losses to the androids, and the death of his friends which probably decreased his s-cell count and his potential overall. Whats worse is that he actually did become stronger then both androids 17 and 18. He won an energy beam struggle against them. But according to DBS logic, perfect teamwork has a multiplier. Fighting in perfect synch can elevate two or more fighters powerlevel and fighting technique allowing them to beat a stronger enemy that they couldn't defeat alone. As soon as they lost the beam clash to gohan, both androids got super serious and stopped playing around; gohan even noticed that the two androids were getting into perfect synch and actually looked shocked and frightened. Then the rest of the fight was pretty much a total beatdown that lead to gohans death. He never stood a chance against the androids perfect teamwork.

Why didn't Gohan, Bulma, and Trunks book it to New Namek when they had the chance? They could have summoned Porunga on New Namek, Wished the Androids to a world baron of people, Stayed, trained, and summoned Porunga once more and Wish back the Z Fighters killed in the conflict.

The threat was too sudden and Piccolo was the first to die which meant Kami died too. No one got to learn those existed.
