That's a sweet machine man!!! I also used to watch an old Gradall that did work for the town I grew up in. An old 50s Gradall 600 I guess. Could hear that Detroit from miles away. And off I was on my BMX bike.
Great video! The old cable excavator seems to be running & operating very well. Based on what I've learned about cable operated & hydraulically operated equipment, the following is what I've noted (or assume) to be some of the comparative pros & cons of each: Pros of cable machine: No concerns over contaminates in hydraulic system, failed hydraulic hoses & seals, corroded hydraulic rams, damaged or worn hydraulic pump(s) & hydraulic motors, & worn hydraulic spool valves (all of which can be expensive to repair or replace), & no mess with replacing hydraulic filters. If repairs are required on a cable machine, many can likely be done with with basic welding or "field fabrication", at relatively low cost. Cons of cable machine: Cable drum brakes & clutches need occasional adjustment, & associated hand levers & linkage controls can develop wear, resulting in "slop" in the controls, & control levers & pedals take more effort & careful coordination to operate machine efficiently (than a hydraulic machine), cable pulley bearings can fail, resulting in possible damage to cable & pulley. Parts are not so readily available, as the cable machines have long been replaced with hydraulic machines. The only cable machines that are left are basically salvaged machines (like this one) probably often with many hours, considerable wear & deterioration, so there is a considerable cost in effort & money that can be expected to restore the cable machine to a reliable operating condition (not to a "like new" condition). But once that is done, I imagine a cable machine could operated for considerably less cost than a more modern hydraulic machine.
@@73DiamondReo ok so it’s on a Carrier and not just a truck man I would love to have something like that they’re super rare there was one like yours on a carrier but it was hydraulic and you couldn’t swing all the way around so because of that I didn’t like it but if I ever see one like you have I will try to deal on it thanks for sharing!🇨🇦😀
@@73DiamondReo I am from Headingley Manitoba Canada, The price of scrap iron has been very high a couple of times over the last years and China has actually bought tons of scrap iron here I think it was 2008 they cleaned up a lot of old equipment it was heart breaking but they were paying big money.
i have a different mag in the garage i think is correct. i just want to go through it before install. id like to fix the radiator on the truck and do something with the cab but it does run
Looks like the truck could use some steadies as there is a lot of movement. Portable hand brakes look robust. Is it good to use? - you looked to have settled in to it.
@@73DiamondReo The unit with a clam bucket that Post Engineers had in Va. didn't need any outrigging either. It just wobbled a little and kept on slinging sand.
Anyone who ran one of these old machines back in the day earned their money for sure.
sure did.
@@73DiamondReo Yessir!
Always nice to see the old iron you saved in action Frank 🙂👍 Stay out of the heat if you can. Happy wrenching. 🔧🔩
competely soaked and covered in grease
Never heard of that brand before! Awesome.
popular with small contractors
@@73DiamondReo Some visits.
That’s what it’s all about, running an old machine and having fun! 👍😀
You got that right!
I love the ol machines nice 👍 thanks the sound of that ol engine brings it all up to date now , thanks BigAl California.
Glad you enjoyed it

very beautiful machine. I like the Bantams, very intelligent little cable excavator.
Tks
they were a good small contractor machine

cable machines require a lot more oiling and greasing as well. they also lack down pressure when digging
I grew up running that machine 😂
This exact one? Or the same model
@@73DiamondReo no, but the same model, I had mine set up as a crane tho
YOU GOT IT, Franko! A-PLUS and God Bless!
thanks
They sure had it balanced very nicely considering that there aren’t outriggers! Very good video that old girl has lots of life left in her 😀🇨🇦
no suspension. it has outrigger beams but only really needed for crane work

Running really great has the mag bean changed from earlier
It's turning into a great machine Frank good work
No plans for the truck in the future

Very cool Frank!!¡
I watched one of those Bantam excavators dig up the sewer line on the street I grew up on one summer. Fascinating machine. Truck and excavator in one.
fast and mobile
Man that thing is sweet!
Really nice machine
Super cool!
thanks Frank
I would have bet money that was Detroit Diesel powered, but it sounds like a 6 cylinder gasser.
Leroi gas upper and chevy lower
Man o man. Times have changed!
little bit. would have loved to be around when this stuff was the norm
How does sound going down the road?
never had it out of first gear. truck side needs a but more work

its a decent machine to run. its got a walking beam under the rear so its pretty stable for being on rubber.
