ABOUT BLAKE MAKES MUSIC
Blake is a music producer and singer-songwriter that hosts a live podcast geared to helping musicians and producers navigate their music career in a really grounded way. Blake started his career at the age of 15, writing and performing music in bands, and was offered his first publishing contract at the age of 17 years old. While playing around the state of Texas as a singer-songwriter, Blake ventured into producing albums for local bands in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He quickly established a reputation of becoming the 'go-to' producer for his signature vintage-retro sound. He began mentoring the artists and bands that he worked with, helping align their careers with their goals. As the internet began shaping the music landscape with streaming, Blake then shifted his career into digital marketing strategies and online artist development. In 2017 he was then hired to run the Music Career Development department of the Los Angeles Film School. After separating with the college in 2022 due creative differences, Blake moved to Gruene, Texas and started his own podcast and music development system aimed to mentor young musicians. He also wrote a book encompassing his entire music system's strategy guide. You can grab a free digital copy of his book here: bit.ly/freemusicbook

Dionysus (live performance)💜🤙🏼
@@lizzya9851 that sounds rad!!
Crystal snow... Jin' s Three high note 💜 is fantastic!🥰
re: your poll. dionysus and pied piper do not have mvs so anything that says it's an mv is a lie 😕 there are live performances though!
Who is gonna tell him that’s not a break up song? XD it’s about the fake love that one has from oneself…when you lost yourself to pretend to be someone else 👀
Lol I picked up on that. 😊 Thank you though. I was more categorizing it as a “break up” song. But yeah I really liked the songwriting. I may do a video about the common songwriting categories. 🤔
@@BlakeMakesMusic I still think it can be categorized as a break up song. It can mean different things to different people and it's one of the beauties about BTS' music.
@@BlakeMakesMusic is also supossed to be about their relationship with the music itself and with the music industry that's why RM (the rapper that look at the morror) says the "Who are you?" Because He's afraid that he has changed himself to fit. This also shows in the "make me your Dolly part" and in V ( the one White the Pink shirt) scene with the rectangular lights that are actually phones.
Nah, it is a break up song. Listen to love yourself in order.
Nobody’s gonna tell him that because it has many interpretations and that’s what makes it good writing
Fake Love was written by RM (the leader of BTS), ‘Hitman’ Bang (the founder of BigHit Music), & was produced by PDogg (a Korean producer).
Actually part of the fire scene was real and part wasn't. When Yoongi (Suga) was in the room they used fire of a lesser intensity (but not an explosion) and more controlled and this was seen in the behind the scenes so don't worry he was safe. In short, post-production was used to make the fire more intense and explosive though I'm not sure of the full details in that regard.
You don’t need to excuse yourself for going back and forth, just do your thing, speed back and listen again, keep listen and figure your thing out
I swear, we want you to take your time
Aaand I absolutely love your take on the music you’re reacting to, BTS or not
Love~
I've been an ARMY for a long time and I still never read the lyrics when watching an MV for the first time. I will watch the video first to take in the story visually and to enjoy the sound of the song, and then I focus on the lyrics. I know how much lyrics mean to BTS so, for me, I feel like approaching a new song this way lets me appreciate all aspects of the song without being overwhelmed with trying to take it all in at once. Obviously you're thinking about it from a reactors point of view so you might think it's too much to watch a MV twice in one reaction, but you kind of do it already anyway by backing up the video and watching a section again.
Same here. I always listen to the audio first (if available) or watch the mv without subtitles, and then I do it again with the lyrics. I really enjoy hearing the song and enjoying the visuals of the mv before diving into the lyrics.
I just paused the reaction to say this same thing. I always watch the video first, then go through and read the lyrics, then watch it again to put the video together with the lyrics.
You should totally react to their performance of Dionysus at the 2019 MMAs - or their entire segment of the MMAs! It’s about a 40 minute video I think but welllll worth it - they’re incredible performers!! :-)
Do not care about the comments, the important thing is that your opinion on the songs convinces you as you and not us, because there is a category of people who will like the song and the other category is not, so do not be restricted in expressing your opinion, the freedom of our opinion and the non-interference of others in what we want And what we don't want. This is what the leader of our golden squad BTS taught us
None of your analyses or thoughts about Fake Love seemed like criticism at all so don't worry about it. Fake Love is very storyline based (connected to other mvs) so ARMYs would be definitely looking at all of visual clues while you as a producer or anyone with a music background would (also) evaluate song and music elements. You don't need to get into storyline because it is a lot and so much information overload (myself, on the other hand, just loves it). Looking forward to more reactions from you.
So in K-pop or BTS, the visual experience is extremely important to the overall artistry of the music. It’s not to say it’s more important but because if when popular music was introduced due to the opening up of the country to the West, it was done in the video area so the dancing, the performance (video or live) is also part of the interpretative aspect of the art. Don’t think from a Western perspective where the song/music is simply the artistic part of the experience with the video made to enhance or give the listener/viewer something to enjoy but isn’t considered as part of the process but really singular. So when you consume bts, it always always starts with the music and lyrics ( big big in lyrics) but also how to consume the experience of the music. It’s more synergistic. It’s more thoughtful to the look to give a more fleshed out and multi dimensional experience. If you will, think David Bowie. Think Queen. Think Michael Jackson. Think even Madonna. Think childish gambino in some stretches. This isn’t music by itself, it’s meant to be an experience with their MV and live performances. Not Billy Squier or even Led Zeppelin. Think Beatles with Sgt peppers, not Beatles white album. It’s not wrong, it’s not right. It’s just different.
Awesome comment. This is exactly how I explain the BTS experience to my music friends. And I mention almost the same examples as you (Bowie, Queen, MJ, Gambino) I also add Prince and King Crimson for the conceptuality of the albums. I hope Blake reads you comment, because BTS music artistry extends to the MVs, concept photos, choreo (do not miss the movements interpreting the lyrics and sentiments), also the fashion and makeup, and the album packaging. Fake Love is the title song of the second album of a trilogy the "Love Yourself" series and the MV is part of the BU (Bangtan Universe) storyline. There is too much to process from this one song. But.... it's definitely enjoyable by itself too.
Yes, both RM and Jhope have mentioned that they visualize the entire stage when they write songs. They think of the lighting, the choreo, the fanchants, and everything else. It's a 4D style of writing music (but it also sounds good in my car, heyyy).
Wow people here spitting real facts. Much appreciated!!!
18:35 If you really want to know how it was written/produced, RM (songwriter/rapper and leader) usually go live online whenever BTS release a new album and talk about the behind the writing/making of each track. So Fake Love is from the Love Yourself: Tear album, so this is the video of RM explaining the process for each track but skip to 11:20-15:44 just for Fake Love. He even shares his demo/guide to Fake Love of what it used to sound like :) ruclips.net/video/s4pvJPA9RfI/видео.html
The rap line demo is dope.. I didn't know that I needed to hear rm sings 'just for you'.😭
Thank you for sharing this. I saw it the year it came out, but I forgot where to find it again.
Hi. I'm a Brazilian Army, I'm 50 years old, and my musical reference has always been rock, until I met BTS, I've never seen anything like them. I suggest you react to No more dreams (their debut song, 2013), N.O, Not Today, DOPE, DANGER, Mic Drop, ON Kinetic Manifesto, Black Swan... you will go through many styles, and this is just the beginning. BTS has over 300 songs in their discography, and as you've already noticed, the group has 3 rappers: Kim Namjoon/RM (group leader, songwriter, producer), Min Yoongi/SUGA (songwriter, producer), Jung Hoseok/J HOPE (dance leader, songwriter, producer), and 4 singers: Jeon Jungkook/JK (songwriter, producer and director, this is the youngest of the group, he joined when he was 13 years old, today he is 24 years old), Park Jimin (songwriter, producer), Kim Taehyung/V (songwriter, producer), Kim SeokJin/Jin (songwriter, producer). It will be interesting for you to react to the documentaries that report the entire trajectory of the group from their pre-debut until the present day. Thank you for reacting and respecting the work of these 7 phenomenal artists.
PS.: React MMA 2019 ( Full live Performance)
🇧🇷💜
Just a quick note: you previously reacted to their song “Run BTS,” not their song “Run.” “Run” is also a great song from one of their earlier albums 💜
I got excited thinking he had reacted to Run, lol.
I also caught that statement and had to go to his YT site to double-check the actual song he reviewed. I did think his statement was odd, because Run is not usually a song that people find early in their BTS research.
There are 3 Love Yourself albums. LY: Her is about finding that 1 fated love. LY: Tear (Fake Love) is about that perfect love being torn apart. LY: Answer is about learning that the answer to finding love is loving yourself first.
This MV, however, is a part of the Bangtan Universe. Which is a fictional story line that runs throughout MVs. So, the song and MV don’t necessarily correlate.
1) Totally yes to who ever said to do “Mic Drop” (The Steve Aoki version is my fave), or the 2019 MMA’s.
2) Yes, the arrangement for the extended video is different. I personally like it better.
3) There’s a cool video they filmed for the song “My Universe” with Coldplay. It’s a behind the scenes type video. I think it might be under “BTS Episodes” on RUclips? It shows them recording the song with Chris Martin.
Love your channel!
The documentary is called "Coldplay x BTS Inside "My Universe" Documentary
under " BANGTANTV " channel
This song is about how people give them fake love like the media and such like that. That's why there saying fake love. But this song can be interpreted in many different ways like a break up and such.
Ahhh thank you for that! See, never would have known! But again, that’s why it’s such a great song. It’s good interpreted however you want.
@@BlakeMakesMusic this is not the real meaning of this song tho😐 you can watch the explanation vedio of XCeleste...
@@BlakeMakesMusic hey its fine we learn something everyday lol.
@@kamalhossan5694 You can interpret it that way, though. My understanding of their music changes depending on my mood, my life events, as I grow older and my pov of life changes, and so on. Their lyrics really last through time and can mean different things to different people. When Spring Day came out, my aunt died a week later. I took the bogoshipda to mean missing someone who has passed away. Later, I went through a breakup, and the meaning changed to one of missing a lover. There are many ways to interpret the songs, but all of them are touching and meaningful.
@@Honey-je4pr yes you are right.... that's why I said it's not the REAL one means what they used it for like the storyline and it's theme of self love...
Otherwise people can interpret it in many other ways... not only this but most of their songs... BTW your thoughts of it are beautiful 💜
Also, just a suggestion: If you find it difficult to focus on both the music and the lyrics at the same time, I recommend listening to it once without lyrics, and then turning them on for the second listen :)
Yup, we'll still watch the whole thing!
BTS songs are not that shallow. it's more than a heartbreak from a love relationship. happy to see more BTS reaction here.
Fake Love is part of the BU (BTS Universe) which is an on-going story line over several songs/MVs. So, don't try to understand the lyrics right now. Just enjoy the music.
Edit: Be sure to watch their videos until the end so you don't miss anything.
I was looking for this comment. Thanks for letting him know about the BU :) Blake, all of the symbolism of the MV and lyrics can be explained by reading up on the storyline if you're so inclined. I recommend the videos on xCeleste's channel. (Update: correction about interpretation of lyrics, see below)
But it can be interpreted as a breakup song from a toxic relationship, that's even the theme of the album and of the trilogy, it's love, the whole process of falling in love, getting through difficult times because you put the person first and then breaking up and realizing you should've loved yourself first, then you would be able to recognize true love and also to love others healthily
The BU thing is also present in the lyrics but it's mainly showed in the MV itself
@@sabrinab4193 You're absolutely right. Thanks for pointing that out about the lyrics. I get too engrossed with the visual storytelling in the MV :)
An amazing live performance to watch is the 2019 MMA. This performance has the songs Persona, Boy In Luv, Boy with Luv, mikrokosmos, and Dionysus. There are also references to the songs:
What am I to you,
no more dream (debate song),
danger,
I need u,
fire,
fake love,
save me,
and N.O.
It would be a great idea to work up to this performance bc it truly is one of their best and hearing the songs would help you appreciate it (although it is not necessary, it’s amazing on its own too).
You would love the rock version of Fake Love! It's on their love yourself : tear album and it has another music video called Fake Love extended version
I agree he would love that version
Up!
Up!!
Yes, I was hoping he would listen to that version. I think he'll also like some of their live stages better, when Ghost is playing with them and give their songs a rock-ier feel.
fake love was written by 3 peoples: Hitman bang, Pdogg and RM (the leader of BTS)
I've been watching your videos regarding BTS. To give you a quick rundown, they write, produce and compose their music. 3 members were even a member of Korea Music copyright association. They have more than 100+ registered songs credited to those 3 members each. Suga specifically writes, composes, arranges, mixes, and masters his own material. He even produces songs to other well known artist in Korea and won awards for it. All of them each have their own music studio in there company. You can google each of their profile and you'll be blown away by how talented each of the members of BTS😁
Fake love when it came out was made me an instant army back then! I fell down the rabbit hole and no regrets! 💜
BTS songs usually have deep meanings, good lyricism and gender neutral at times. Fake Love could apply to relationships between partners, family members, friends and even about self-acceptance/self-love. There are scenes of them wearing masks to hide their true selves, looking at the mirror and seeing someone else instead, pretending to happy/strong but is sad/weak inside, etc.
There is actually a rock version of fake love, and that's actually what I have on my playlist 😊
i find it super interesting that their way of writing for a group goes by few members submitting their versions to choose the one that works better. sometimes they share with us their own demos that were rejected and those are so good too! and completely different sometimes. like Tae's demo for Spring Day or Hobi's demo for DNA, Jin's for Epiphany, RM's for Young Forever, etc... i have those saved in my playlist alongside with the actual songs
Hobi's DNA demo has been on repeat for me this week, haha :D
Honestly I prefer the Epiphany demo more, it just feels more raw and emotional.💜🥹💜
When it comes to BTS music, I would recommend On (there is the Official MV, and the Kinetic Manifesto Film version - which is my favourite). There is also Black Swan; Blood, Sweat and Tears; Danger; Dope; Not Today; Just One Day; Spring Day; No More Dream; We Are Bulletproof Part 2; N.O; Fire; and Mic Drop. From the Vocal Line there is House of Cards, and The Truth Untold. From the Rap Line there is Ugh; Ddang; and the Cypher series.
I had best stop before I start listing their solo songs too. Honestly, there isn't a bad BTS song (though some songs will resonate with you more than others - but that's a personal thing). There is truly something for everyone, if they just gave BTS a chance.
My musical tastes run from Gregorian Chants to Heavy Metal. I came to BTS almost a year ago, and haven't looked back since. I didn't so much fall down the BTS rabbit hole,as throw myself down it head first. And I don't regret it for a moment.💜
Even the fire isn't exactly cgi though you can learn about how they made all of those sets in the shoots of fake love
As AV7F fans, what I like from BTS is that they never do what other Kpop/Western artist do : buying YT views, radio payola, media play etc. They grew organicly. And yes, they are genius in writting lyrics (Kpop groups usually dont write their own song)
I’m 51. Been ARMY since 2018. Never liked a “boy band” in my life before. I have seen them over 10 times. Ok now you know a bit about me 😅 I have loved music my entire life. I have never been stuck in my hs generation of music but always current alt rock/some pop. I enjoy watching reactions from industry people to BTS. They are not standard in any way. KPop is more formulaic then BTS (I do not listen to much other K-pop. It holds no appeal to me). But you want to make sense of their song structure so badly 😂 and it doesn’t fit the western “box”. I think that is a large part of their appeal to me. I love being constantly surprised by them and their team. The guys do have a hand in production, especially the rap line, but they also have in-house producers they have worked with steadily through the years. Anyway love your reactions! No idea what I was even trying to say😅.
I know what you mean about other K-pop, I'm the same! BTS is just different.
Agree! They are their own genre.
Hi Blake, thank you for your series of in-depth reactions to BTS! I just wanted to let you know that Fake Love was actually written by just 3 people (Pdogg, RM, and Hitman Bang) so that's actually a lot fewer people than most songs out there these days in both Korean and American music industries. Just thought you might find that interesting! Thanks again! 😊💜
should've watched the extended version of fake love instead, it has more rock in it with extra scenes.
From what I’ve come to understand, the K-pop medium of music is genre-smashing or blending, with K-pop producers generally taking mainstream music genres (ie pop, hip hop, rap, edm/dance, even rock) as elements and “baking” them into either a mixed mosaic or melting pot.
To bounce off another comment here, South Korea was introduced to current western/global music en masse in the MTV era, which means 90s, which means music videos. So early mainstream artists there absorbed all those genres i mentioned above all at once. Within a decade the “K-pop genre” (idol music*) was established as one big supergenre.
Because those genres (which we over here in North America view as separate styles) are intentionally produced intermixed, that’s where I suspect your confusion over song structure comes from. Believe me, there are a lot of K-pop songs in general I struggle to reconcile inside my music brain/ear, not just as someone who grew up with the original genres and song structures, but also as someone with a defined music sensibility. 😂 I’m still getting used to it! If it helps, just think of K-pop as experimental mainstream, that’s how I define it for myself.
(Note: *idol music: so what the world knows as K-pop is actually idol music: in my opinion on how it originated, the mainstream section of the Kmusic industry took in this sudden “foreign” influx of genres and packaged it, not just the music but also the visual and music celebrity aspects. Then entertainment companies just took over the format and the business end. Btw, unlike here, every part of the music process is done in-house: production, songwriting, choreography, music videos, advertising, promotion, talent management, everything. The artist rarely gets allowed in on that. The criticism that K-pop has in general not just internationally but also from domestic non-industry and underground artists, is because of that business model often using and controlling the talent, when the “music industry” has the “industry” part overshadowing the “music” part. K-pop is way more popular internationally than domestically I was supervised to find out, it doesn’t operate like us here at all, the most popular genres there ballads, trot and traditional. ((Idol music is treated like an indulgence. Kinda weird.)) in any case, there are artists who’ve tried to stand out genuinely despite the boxes the industry and general public try to put them in. A lot of genuinely talented kids try to have a real career there, they want what any musician/singer/creative wants. But it is an uphill battle depending on where you end up and your struggles. But the West is not guilt-free in that aspect either, no?)
BTS is a great example of breaking industry boundaries. They creatively embedded into their music as songwriters, producers and lyricists, as co-captains manning their own ship. They got where they are despite the entertainment industry barriers, because they circumvented them, with the aid and blessing of their once-tiny label. IMO that’s why they’re significant to domestic K-pop beyond the obvious- I feel like they are setting the standard for what future K-pop industry artists can do, can explore, can own and push for on their own authority.
/rant
*embarrassed* sorry, I have a lot of thoughts and feels in this topic.
Thank you for distinguishing Idol culture as separate from K-pop. So many people don't understand that. Also on the genre-smashing. That's why so many international producers like working on K-pop music because they can be more experimental vs sticking to the formula.
Idol music vs K-pop is that K-pop was born from rebellion against an industry that was controlled by the government. The music industry was HEAVILY censored by the government so everything you had access to listen to was either promoting a love for the country, an non-offensive ballad, or religious songs. Then the first K-pop group came out heavily influenced by late 80's early 90's western music that was popular then and the freedoms with which the singers and rappers often spoke about. Once the government saw how lucrative it was, they later helped fund a certain entertainment company to start making idols and Idol Music. People who were trained to be role models in life, celebrities, and singers but still make (occasional) music that relate to issues the younger generation may be facing plus ballads and such. Which now leads us to all Idol music = K-pop but not all K-pop = Idol music.
One thing I don't agree with is that Idol music not being popular in Korea. It IS popular but internationally, I'd say the tastes overlap where there may be certain groups that are more popular overseas and vice-versa. Because of this, a lot of international fans of certain groups will assume Idol music isn't popular in Korea because their group isn't popular. Everywhere you go, you usually hear Idol music/K-pop from almost every store, cafe, bar, or club. Enjoying Idol music is pretty similar to people saying "Oh my music tastes are basically Top 40." Lots of people listen to it but not all would actually confess that's the type of music they listen to usually. But generally, straight Korean men and women 32+ will usually listen to classical, ballads, jazz, international, maybe some trot for nostalgia, etc... With a sprinkling of K-pop here and there.
BTS isn't kpop. They are BTS pop
This song truly seems to apply to their relationship as idols with their hardcore fans, there are lot of hints of this not only in the lyrics but especially through the visual and each "character's arc". Although the fandom doesn't seem to want to claim this theory for obvious reasons, lol.
I love your take on music in a more technical aspect💜
If there is one song of them that has always given me CHILLS no matter how many times I replay like is "Louder than Bombs". I always feel sucked into the song itself.
It's a B side and maybe not one of their most popular, although I believe any Army would agree is one their most complex and interesting pieces. I would LOVE to see a reaction about the production aspect of Louder than Bombs, I think you would find it interesting too☺️🌼
When you really understand their history and the depth of what’s behind the message, it makes the song a lot more enjoyable and meaningful. I am looking forward to seeing your appreciation for them grow and how it is reflected in your interesting reactions. Thanks for your open and honest commentary!
I still go back to watch the ama when they did their tv debut in America for fake love
What you said at 12:40 is right. As I learned more about BTS, K-pop and other worldly music, my perspective broadened… vocab changed from “best in music” to “best in western music” or “best in the Americas” … “music structure should be” became “western structure should be” or “American pop music structure”. Enjoy the ride!
I am a huge rock and metal fan. I started to listening to BTS and other Kpop almost a year ago. I don’t have any education in music as you do, but I appreciate your honest opinion and feedback.
It’s about all the types of fake love ( family, friends…. )
YOU GOTTA DO BLACK SWAN ! This song is so angelic
Hi Ashley Gachuzo! Thank you for the comment. I absolutely plan to check that video out at some point. Thanks! 😊
Fake Love is one of my favorite BTS songs!
There is a rock version of this from them and that is actually my favourite version.
I bet someone else mentioned this already, but there's a making of video that shows that the fire is not CGI. It's real, but managed with perspective and camera angles. You would enjoy watching that.
Tiene que ver el detrás de cámara, la explosión, el agua, el fuego, el piso cayendo, todo es real
Pull up lyrics from doolset bangtan and read them beforehand, and then focus on the rest while watching if it's easier or better for you 💜
I love their B tracks they post which I never knew about. I’ve been army since 2021 so I am still learning a lot. Anyways, Sea is amazing it makes me feel so much emotion. Butterfly is also a good too. If we talk about individual and rap line and vocal line there’s just so many songs. I met a friend that introduced me about BTS when I was close to giving up. I was grasping at straws and these men found me and really helped me out the deep hole I was in. I love seeing reactions of them because it feels like when I first was introduced to them. There’s so many of their songs that are amazing it’s hard to show just one for introduction of BTS. Borahae!!💜💜
I was able to be comfortable with BTS, and this is still true, because I was exposed to experimental jazz in my late teens. And I listen to BTS the same way. I always know there will be something unexpected, that I don't necessarily have the cultural references to process fully, I have to give myself over to the music. I don't think anybody expects you to be an expert either in music or BTS, we are here to share our enjoyment of the music and the men with you.
as a non-songwriter, this is the way i'd personally break down the song structure:
pre-chorus
chorus B
verse 1-1
verse 1-2
pre-chorus
chorus A
chorus B
verse 2-1
verse 2-2
bridge
chorus A
chorus B
pre-chorus
Its literally impossible to hate the song.
That’s very true it’s so catchy!
Just like you are checking out BTS & their music, I am checking you & your reactions out. So far I am impressed & glad to see that you are impressed by our boys too. I’m 72, Army since 2018.
Thanks for the comment, Marta Hagyari ! 💜 😀
100% it's what the song calls for.
They have one behind the scenes for each MV for army (fans) to follow the entire production and recording process
I'm not a musician or producer, but what I've noticed as far as structure goes for BTS is that a lot of their songs will go vocal / a rapline member / vocal / a rapline member / vocal / a rapline member / vocal to end the song - with usually the vocalists talking turns or pairing up for different parts. Like usually there will be a verse for RM, Suga, and j-hope, with vocalists doing the chorus. Not always strictly like this and not all songs, but a lot of them.
Secondly, they have a lot of subunit songs, for instance all 3 rapline members will be on a song alone (Outro: Tear, Ugh), or maybe two vocalists and a rapline member (Jamais Vu)
What I did to learn the names was the color coded lyric videos and they have such different voices I just matched the voices
Also, for the récord, the Army way to watch a bts video: 1st time for an overall, 7 times focusing on each member, 1 for the lyrics, 1 trying to find hidden pearls like dates or some winck to army... and the rest millionth times for the pleasure of the good music 😅
FYI, there is a Making Of video for this one as well. It's not too long but it's fun to see the guys chatting, and doing certain sections of this video. On to the extended version.
You should check out some of the live recordings. They dance like that *while* singing like that. It’s super entertaining.
this song is a very bts song for multiple things:
1. you can’t put it in any genre other than bts genre lol
2. the lyrics are very deep and intricate and tell a whole story
3. the music video has multiple meanings
i’d say this song is very good introduction to bts overall!
The fire actually is real. (having seen the making of video) The CGI is the cell phone dissolving into sand and most probably the waterfall/gateway. BTS will try to film things for real if possible. Some ARMY will make comments like no CGI or no autotune. Both of these methods when done without regard to alternatives are cheap in my mind. However, when done in the service of augmenting an artistic statement or literally creating something novel they can be valuable tools in the tool chest. Unfortunately absolutist statements meant to convey BTS's excellence which is quite real sometimes wind up being loving exaggerations which cloud objectivity. CGI and autotune are not dirty words. They are tools.
They used a real fire, but enhanced it with CGI, especially for the fire explosion
I think the phone turning to sand was CGI, or at least very cleverly done, and I think the waterfall wall was real, actually. Leave it to Big Hit to still have secrets, lmao
Quick note, the fire is not CGI. If you watch the Behind the Scenes video you will see how it's done. There was actually fire in the scene, but it wasn't quite as big, or as close to Suga, as the camera angles make it look.💜
Modern Korean music grew with the tv not the radio like in the west so the visual element is a big part. Like Suga in BTS explained in their Grammy Museum interview the combination of the music, the dance, the stage, the mv, the fashion and the hair and make up all coming together to create an experience and thats Kpop.
did anyone suggest the "FAKE LOVE Rocking vibe mix"?? Because it would be awesome to see how both versions compare and all!! :) Loving your reactions and all the comments you do (subscribed!!!)! We love technical/music expert information about our favorite songs hahahha EDIT: Hahahaha loving how the pre-chorus/chorus thing throws him on a loop! TBH BTS and Korean pop in general use unuasual structures I think!
It's impossible to listen to the music, watch the video, and read the lyrics at the same time. You have to watch the video multiple times. It's ok, just embrace it.
Fake Love is an absolute classic among the many BTS hits, glad you covered it! I was particularly intrigued to hear about the hook/chorus parts, because honestly I never really even distinguished between them, it's just that all parts of the song are so fascinating. Perhaps the "Love you so bad" & the gentler vocal part you referred to as a bridge (I think?) are personal favourites, but it's so hard to choose! Really enjoying this kind of angle in music reactions, when ppl bring their own music or dance experience into it. And kidos to whoever suggested this song, great choice!
Sometimes it's easier to just watch the visuals the 1st time then re watch for the lyrics. Your viewers will be around for longer videos if it helps you experience and understand the MV better. It can be very overwhelming lol
Can you react to Bts Paradise, the lyrics just relate very much, Im already 34, just live my life with a "go with the flow" type of way....just work, take care of my daughter, chill with family and Im a pothead who loves enjoying the beaches at night....so yeah.
FYI. Fake Love is part of a series of videos and when watched in order with the short films brings a whole new view into the meaning. Love your reaction videos because they come from a different view than a traditional kpop fan.
RM, Bang Pd and Pdogg! 👏👏👏
Watching, focusing and reading lyrics all at the sametime will take time. By the time you know it you wont even notice anymore and will be an expert. Enjoying!
The Love Yourself series is really interesting. They went in with this trilogy concept. Her(falling in love) Tear (end of love/break up) Answer (True Love/Love Yourself) It was a great exploration. Balancing Rap with Singing makes these group songs sonically epic.
You gotta hear BTS - Dionysus! It's rocked influenced and J-Hope made it! 😍
This was my first reaction for Fake Love & that's what made me jump into BTS
Fake love has chorus + pre chorus.... This is what made me confuse + love the song specifically
If the metal cover you mentioned is the one I've heard I think you're going to love it! I'm not a metal fan at all and I almost liked the cover better than this original version of the song. Excited to see your reaction.
I don't want to be repetitive, but a few things:
1. BTS has songs that are all 7, just rap line, just vocal line, and individual members have solo songs. And yes it's whatever they think creatively fits. Usually solo songs start their EPs.
2. I would do your best to shake your Western lens on song structure. They throw it out the window. And it's not solely because of the number of members. Your own examples were good.
3. BTS is so loved because of their lyrics, values and personality. Some of the musicality may seem more top 40, but the lyrics change your life forever.
I'm excited for your BTS journey. I think you will continue to have your expectations subverted. Enjoying you so far 😊
It's ok to listen to the song first and then go back again to react to lyrics. Army don't mind the long videos and also love to see your reactions for everything 💜
7:47 NEW JIMIN WALLPAPER TYSM
Army will stay for long vids so watching the video 2+ times for your comfort is totally ok.
almost all MV have explanation videos that are well worth listening to. For many reasons.
Your first music video w choreography! :D Something u haven’t gotten into much yet, esp since u focus more from the music perspective, but I’m sure you’ll really come to appreciate it as u keep reacting to them. They are AMAZING dancers and performers
The live stages for this song at award shows are awesome too :) I love hearing your observations! Can’t wait to see the cover and ext version.
Great reaction! Fake Love is on the second album of an album Trilogy called Love Yourself: Her, Tear and Answer. Fake Love is on Tear. So, you see, when you think of this song as a part of a thematic progression it makes a lot of more sense. In Her, the songs are more about being smitten when you fall in love; in Tear, you see that love is not enough and have to face some painful truths about relationships and in Answer, you learn that you have to love yourself first.
And the fire is only partially CGI they did use real fire, but used CG to make it bigger
There are a couple demo versions of this song you should check out too if you get the chance. It's cool getting a glimpse into their production process
A metal band did a cover of this and it was awesome 👌
As to the CGI... the fire was real, but enhanced by CGI to be larger. There was also the cell phone turning to sand from V's hand and the shadow of the sand turning to flower petals on the wall in JK's part. Everything else was practical. There is a behind the scene making-of video posted for this on bangtantv
I know focusing on the song, visuals, and lyrics can be tough since there’s always a lot going on. There’s another reactor that I watch that reads the lyrics translation before watching/listening so he has an idea of what the song is about but the music video still takes him by surprise! Just a suggestion to make it a bit easier for you :)
BTS made a song called Heart for their BTS Universe Game. The MV is really good.
A video I would recommend would be their hardships. So you can see the differences in the industries as in the k-industry and the western industry and how they saw BTS.
Definitely BTS collab with Coldplay, MY UNIVERSE. But you also need to include the mini 'making of' documentary narrated by Chris Martin. He is ARMY too!💜
I always love showing that documentary to musicians. Any time we get a peek behind the music is so interesting to me! (I'm not a musician, lol)
The fire is not cgi. There is a behind scenes (or shooting sketch) for this MV, and you will see for yourself if you watch it that the fire is surely not cgi.
Yes watch music first and then 2nd for lyrics....good idea
2019 MAMA will blow your mind
You've entered the Bangtan Universe without fastening your seatbelt, brave. Some of the explanation videos from DKDKTV & Bookish Theories on RUclips might help with the interpretation of some of the lyrics & concepts with deep cultural references & ARMY will help you in the comments no doubt. You've made a great start, enjoy the journey
Btw Suga's Fire Explosion scene was real but shot separately from Suga. But many of their videos do include real explosions and fire with the guys in the shot as well. Like in the MV for Fire, the iconic scene of the guy on fire was real and other scenes where Suga/JHope is in a room on fire are real as well.
Well the only thing different in kpop is BTS 😅, u can notice that if u check other groups, but there's solo and rappers in Korea that are cool too outside the kpop industry (actually BTS isn't kpop but that's another story)
- info
K-pop is an industry in Korea, that's known by catchy songs, basic lyrics, wild music videos but actually mean nothing, a lot of their "lives" are playback, and their contract is so unfair with the company.
So, yep, BTS aren't kpop, they just took some of the stuff, and they are actually took inspiration of music all over the world.
There's other good artist in Korea like the most famous and loved singer iu, other group that excel kpop mamamoo, the raper tiger jk (friend of BTS, father of Korean rap)
New subscriber here! Love your
Insightful reaction looking forward to more BTS reactions from you!
It's not exactly a breakup song, I think. It's about having changed yourself for another person and because you weren't your real self, the love between you and the other person wasn't real either
The fire is real, the phone dissolving in Tae's hands is cgi; Run BTS is different from Run. You can check out Run mv
