Thanks Vince👍, yes that one wasn't the "run of the mill" repair. Good job I know a bit about software too otherwise this one would have been a fail. I think I spent about 3 days fixing / researching, and then another 2 days editing lol.
@@BuyitFixit Hopefully your countless hours that you put in will save many of these from landfill over the coming years and save the owners from replacing them. Fingers crossed you get rewarded with views!

I definitely think there is a need for UnBricking videos on here, but I’m guessing most bricked devices are in landfills. Still might be a fun series to do. Impressive work! I thought you'd try the SD card firmware update after you got it to boot with the wrong firmware. But your solution was even more impressive. Well done.
Thanks 👍I did consider it, but with it having the 510 firmware on, I doubt it would accept the firmware for what it would think was a different device. The firmware seemed to have an identifier at the start of 513 for this model and 510 for the 510.
I have to say that was one very impressive fix. You obviously have some good all round fault finding skills and a very good ability to read and follow guides online to get the results you need. Well done on this repair
Thanks Richard 👍I've done a few other ones that weren't so run of the mill too, such as the FLIR thermal camera repair, the solar inverter I repaired in one video and then needed the service password to change a setting which the manufacturer wouldn't give me! Or the RGB laser repair or the Moanacaster podcasting console I looked at too 🙂
You lost me very near the start but was so intrigued I watched it all. Amazing how you did that. Still not sure what you did but very interesting to watch you work.
46:10 device driver dialog would have been an elevated prompt that the capture software couldn't see. That was a fantastic video mate... I've played with the JTAG stuff on routers and some cheap PTZ cameras and you can certainly get out of a lot of trouble with bad flashes!
Thanks Steve, yes I've played with JTAG too back in the day 😉 also removing chips and hex editing stuff, and reverse engineer software. Not sure if you saw the 'no password, no problem ' video I did or the ultrasound scanner or the recent generator control panel or tractor dashboard video which are along the same lines 🙂
Hella good job, quite the investigation on this one. You should pat yourself on the back, have a drink, or whatever your routine is after a troublesome repair. Hats off to you.
A great fix! Your early videos elude to your programming interests, so they came in extremely handy here 😊 it does look as if a firmware update went wrong or something corrupted the data and wiped everything. A great plus with your son having a similar model to get some of the info from too. A great job at getting the info from the files bit by bit, this must have took some hours to fully repair, I used to use PuTTY in the late 90's - 2000's, a great little tool for diagnosing networking errors. Most would have stopped when they found out that the firmware was toast. Loved the in - depth microscope and oscilloscope work, excellent 👏 It gives me more confidence to do more myself now, I have been repairing milwaukee / bosch tools and 2 x 110vac Trend T35 AL, M class dust extraction units in the last few weeks, so thank you for that. Looking forward to the next one 😊👍

Astounding and very interesting - thanks! The PC will only pick up the device when the right-hand switch is to the left or the right. The middle position is for recording direct to the SD card. I'm on my second one of these - the first didn't give me any video signal via HDMI, so I returned it for replacement. Turns out that the HDMI lead was faulty, not the device! @@BuyitFixit I would never figure it out! Thanks for sharing your video, truly inspiring!. The other thing which I was intrigued: how did you realized about SUNP BURN FILE format? I failed to understand why you wouldn't only transfer the binary image directly using the eprom programmer instead copying from another slightly different Avermedia image. I hope this makes sense and Ihad understood the video correctly! Thanks.
I noticed in the firmware file, the text SUNP BURN, so searched that on google. This format holds information about the different sections of the file and where they should be programmed in the chip. You could possibly work it out manual from this data where all of the different parts of the file need flashed and to what addresses in the eeprom, but some sections may also need to have additional information such as a CRC programmed at a certain address or possibly a header containing additional information. It was easier to let the flashing program sort that out, and remember at one point the software mentioned about resizing the partition size in the flash. Hope that helps explain it.
You are a really clever bloke, but totally Jammy too. To be honest, Patients and perseverance are your two Super Powers. Congratulations, you certainly earned this one. As a matter of interest, How long did this one actually take you?
Thanks 👍probably around 3 days. 1 day was the electronics testing, then ordered an adapter which took a couple weeks to arrive. Then a couple of days taking the chip off, putting it back on and searching the internet and messing about with software. Oh and then about 2 full days of editing it all as there was captures from 2 different pcs, and a couple of different cameras and the microscope.

I did get a message from someone who explained how they "bricked" their unit. They had left the SD card in after an updating, and it was plugged into their PS5 which switched on to do an update, and switched off again while the Avermedia device must have been in the middle of updating itself again from the inserted SD. Result - bricked a like this one was.
