Hi, in this video I bought an Amazon Returns Box to attempt to fix the broken items.
So what will be inside, will anything be fixable or will it all be broken beyond repair.
Let's find out.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.
With the WH-1000XM4, I am a Sony repair agent. The "wind rushing sound when ambient noise is enabled" is often due to faulty ambient noise microphones. These are located directly under the ear cup foams, right on top of the speakers. They are very easy to replace however spare parts are difficult to get. Shout out to JoesGE though, he has heaps of spares for all types of headphones and small accessories
I fixed my right side microphone by putting it in a bag of iso alcohol and then putting the bag in a ultrasonic cleaner, its been working fine for half a year now
I have exactly this model for like a year or two.
Nice headphones, but I can't move my head/walk with mine. They're changing my volume down when I move, it's been this way from the factory... I never decided to return them though, is there anything I can do to fix them?
Thanks for the recommendation for JoesGE, will likely prove much better than Sony's official encompass parts store or AliExpress
With the XM4's, do you see problems with the swivel hinges often? Just had to replace mine recently, on both sides. Took quite a while to receive the parts. The part of the plastic that snapped seemed very thin.
In addition, can faulty ambient noise microphones cause issues like a loud whistling noise in noise canceling mode? I tried cleaning them, on the contacts, under the rubber covers with isopropanol, but the issue always seems to come back after a while.
@@DIYRepairHour its a captive touch based interface so I am assuming that there is something stuck to the pcb on the inside of the cover on your headphones, wouldn't be a bad thing to disassemble it and take a look
@@momfiethehunter504 I would hope it would be that simple:) I will try it for sure, it's very annoying
The world need more people like you. We should repair our electronics, instead of just throwing it out, when something is wrong with it. Often it's just a minor thing.
problem is sadly the warranty, which they will void when trying to repair :/
Bud I agree with u but it’s the people that don’t want to learn plus they want us to not understand so they can scam us
Not every item worth fixing just bcs of the value. Like this cammera its hella cheap and the time he spent on it is way over to just get new one :D
@@snuffybg not everyone can just get a new one though I couldn’t I had to repair my phone I’m 13
Ok
You can check the polarity of a speaker by applying a small voltage. If the polarity is connected correctly, it will push out, if wrong it will pull the speaker in.
You are correct.
I use a “AA” battery to test polarity, works well
This is where ppl learn new stuff.
Positive is always on the left
I usually use a 12v car battery on my 500w rms pioneer sub😂
I like the "figure it out" tinkering aspect. Sometimes things are just junk and honestly not worth repairing, but tinkering anyway can be its own reward, and you can use those skills to work on things of more import. Kudos.
This is exactly what i tell my parents when we visit a thriftshop, i buy a beat up first gen xbox for 5 bucks no controllers only power supply. 2 boots later i see my 1st controller,2buck50... then 15 stalls later my 2nd one,5 bucks... in the end i modded it from a 6 to 250gb hdd and alot of games on it . To get to the point. You buy knowledge. NOT JUNK.For 5 bucks i get to pick it apart and learn and maybe improve? Or just learn.
Understood.
I'm no techie at all, but I really enjoy your powers of deduction, how you find and fix faults, and ultimately the little squeals of delight when you do so.
Not that the correct polarity matters in this case, it's a single driver unit and speakers deal with AC, so the worst that can happen is the sound is 180 degrees out of phase.
@@samiraperi467did you mean to comment here? 🤔
Spent a life time fixing electrical things, from tiny escapement to 2000 hp motors . So I enjoyed watching someone else, fight such problems . Take care.
Been there for fifty five years and it was a good life

I follow you several years now, i could watch your videos all day because i find your voice and your way of handling stuff very calming and relaxing.

Company utility truck - has a big camper on the back for tools - eliminates your view out the back window of course. I hated not having a rearview mirror anymore, just big sideviews. Saw those rearview dashcams on Amazon... can't live without it. LOVE it. I bough the 'Wolfbox' brand. Cheap, but it sure works great. Great seeing behind me again and it's even better at night than having a mirror.
Extremely useful if you have a RV ❤
Hey Vince, here's a handy trick for determining a speaker's polarity. Take a 1.5v battery and connect it to the speaker terminals. Observe which way causes the cone to move outward. Remember the battery's polarity. That's it! Getting this right is crucial for optimal bass performance, so be sure to pay attention to wire orientation.
Lol the binoculars issue is very familiar to me
I was having this issue with my oven where it wouldn’t turn on randomly or would turn itself off after a short while
I tried everything deep cleaning it slamming the door or gently closing it
Tried putting something infront of the door everything you could think of i tried
We were just about to call it a write off and get a new one when I had one last go at really scrubbing the pin and socket that latches the door closed and tells the oven it’s ok to turn on when I realised the pin itself had just come unscrewed slightly
Itd been a couple months of frustration trying to cook anything
Almost several hundred pounds to get a new one
And all it was was a screw thatd came loose
All that hassle and it took five seconds to fix
And here we are a year later and it’s still working perfectly
Love this kind of video. I usually only try and repair things I don't mind throwing away because they rately get fixed or go back together but I have fun with it.
Hi Vince!
For the correct polarity of the speaker. Briefly connect an AA battery across the speaker terminals. The cone should move out to denote the (+) side.
Glad someone said it!
😢hhhhhhhhh.
Or know positive is on the left..... 🤷

To test the night mode of the game game camera, just walk through your garden after dark. It should certainly detect your presence. It may be the IR array is not being turned on or perhaps just a broken wire / loose connector. Enjoyed the video!
Personal experience: The Wolfbox is an awesome rearview camera mix. I have one wired up to BE the rearview mirror for a vehicle that has no rear windows. This allows my work truck to have rearview as well as the security of having the dashcam.
Those Blackview phones are just imitations of better phones. That's what the camera thing is all about.
Bought one of these for a Honda S2000 - with the rear camera. Totally brilliant. Not cheap but discrete and great quality.
The blackview phone is just one imitation brand of many. Umidigi, doogee, and oneplus are other similar brands.
I bought four different brand dash cams. The Wolfbox is not only the best, but when I found firmware issues, I emailed them and they promptly fixed bugs. Their customer service is REAL! I’ve now installed in three cars and about to do my fourth. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Oneplus is actually good though. (Or used to be, the 7 pro was my favorite phone I've owned.)
You're right to side-eye random software like that. I have a VM I can blow away at any time for when I need to run software like that, which isn't often, but isn't zero times ever either.
Also, as soon as you opened that little motor, I was all "Welcome to Wristwatch Revival, I'm..." and then you made a watch joke later xD
You sandbox Chinese drivers? Marry me.
VM escape exists, it's not that hard. Consider just using a spare drive (and disconnect the main one). Of course, your firmware is still at risk... just can't win sometimes lol
@@user-ut9ln4vd5mNobody is burning a VM escape on some random. That's reserved for enemies of the state.
Quick tip vince - to find polarity of a speaker, simply use a 1.5v battery across the terminals - check which way round pushes the cone out - make a note of the polarity of the battery - job done (it does matter which way round the wires go as incorrect polarity will affect base.
Great tip, I was thinking the same thing myself. I used to use a battery as a party trick to impress my mates when I was younger 😂
Indeed, and usually the positive one is the terminal to the right looking straight to the terminals.
As said in the video, the speaker phase is only relevant in a stereo setup
if you examine the speaker using your zoom it will often have the polarity stamped into the plastic leads.
@@guilhermephsor positive is on left looking at the terminals sitting on the motor.
Thanks for the I Geek camera fix, I bought one from Amazon,,, with the solar panel, it worked for around 3 days, then would not pan up/down like your one.
Exact same fault, getting the locating/fixing lugs back on again is not easy plus theirs not enough length on the lugs to hold it tightly,
I got out my spot welder on full blast and blitzed the lugs in welds.
I;ve done the same with the rotation motor, didnt take this one to bits, just spot welded it.
All good.
I had gone through the process to have anoyher camera sent as a replacement, the seller sent me a new one but did not want me to send the broken one back (more than likely Knew about this fault)
So I got one for free.
I'll do the same with the new one.
Cheers Ray
Interesting that it had the same fault. Maybe the short lugs are a bit of a design fault. Cheers Ray👍
I know iPhone's will boot loop sometimes with a dead battery but you are right that could just be a firmware fault and not hardware, had a ton of fun watching this video... also, how do you get these amazon returns? this looks very fun to do
Why is no one asking how you got the products from Amazon? I just ran across this video so please be gentle if your a long time viewer and already know.
This was great anyway I was literally glued to the screen. Very, very informative.
I have the same question
I'm also wondering about this.
Amazon sells boxes and pallets of returns for cheap, but idk if you know exactly what you are getting or if it's random content within a certain range of monetary value.
Wondering the same
Thank you for taking apart my binocular model, i will refer to this video if I need to repair it.
Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and genuine enjoyment won me over... Subscribed. Interestingly, you managed to tap into my own affinity and long forgotten desire to take things apart and try to fix them. thank you 🙂
I just want to say that I love your channel. We live in such a disposable society now and I think it's great that you fix stuff. It's also super satisfying when you something to work.
"Positive" is always on the left if you stand the driver (speaker) on the motor (magnet). With one driver you're correct and there's no worries about phase issues unless you link speakers I suppose.
Regarding the first speaker, I believe the one who returned it for a refund was not happy with his purchase and cut the speaker leads in order to complain that it wasn't working when they got it. Many of that going on for those that think they want an item and then have instant regret after the purchase.
in Europe we have a 14 day return period for anything bought online. you don't have to have a return reason, but the returned good needs to be in working condition:)
Why would they do that though? doesn't Amazon take no questions asked returns? At least it's always been for me. I've returned plenty of stuff I didn't want.
But they don't usually bother checking if it is working or not... returned items are just auctioned off to buyers like this guy!
Not everybody knows that. Where I'm from, most assume that the item is checked and then money is refunded if verified not working. @@BuyOneGetOneFree
@@cactuscoyote9881Amazon sells certified used items that are never actually certified except that they certify that were used, they just repack and reship the items until it sticks somewhere.
I got a Schumacher BT100 load tester that way, and the meter was not working; opened it up and the wire to the meter broke free, so I reattached it, and it works fine now. So in that case they just kept sending it out until it stuck with someone who could make use of it.
It's worth the gamble to get these used items only because of Amazon's free return policy.
One thing I do is save the electronics out of anything , including kiddy toys for things like that little switch you found broken in that alarm. I ended up breaking into a toy my grandson had to fix another he really wanted working again. I go to resale shops often and will pick up electronics for cheap. Now days, with the cost of replacement parts on some items, its best to have a box of parts available. I hate waiting for a parts order and would rather just swipe parts from a dead unit. I tried fixing a trail camara once, it turned out to be a loss. I tried anyway. Good video! Feel free to make those type of video's anytime.
32:23 this is a common fault/problrm, its a high pitch whistling sound that has something to do with the microphone that is mounted right above the speaker when noise cancelling and ambient sound is on, some reports say its caused by moisture, hope this helps and hope you find a fix 🤞🏼 please look into it.
You could maybe solder that gearbox to keep it together.
Lucky you - the last time I bought a job lot of faulty electronics someone decided to "decommission" them by snapping all the circuit boards into 2 or 3 pieces...
Where do you buy these joblots ?
I have those Sony headphones and I love them. You're right that the noise cancelling is amazing.
A windshield repair kit might fix that mirror well enough. (It fills the cracks with a polymer that has the same refractive index as glass.)
i know its a bit late now but a trick for the future reference would be to connect a battery to speaker if you have + and - right the speaker will move out and hold there. if your wrong the speaker will move in and hold there. its a supper easy trick with a 9 volt battery but lower volts bats work just as well on smaller speaker like yours
never mind i see there no secret about this trick
I wonder if it would be worth it to float a little solder on each of the tabs of the camera's motor housing to make it a little more solid?
I think the solder would struggle to join the alloy body of the motor. Possibly a two part epoxy might work?
The ptz camera motor is an off the slf stepper motor you can find everywhere. But all the fun is in repair 😅That's what we're all here @ MMV ❤
34:40 - Vince suddenly grows a third hand! Great vids Vince, been watching for a long time, especially the Rolls series.
Have been fixing stuff like that since I was a kid, 50 years ago. Very nice. Broken cassette deck, kid opens it looks at how it works, fixes it.
the blackview phone is definitely a software issue , when you flash it via software on your pc, the computer will hold the usb connection live until its finished flashing the software then drop the connection.
I was just looking to waste some time and I came across your YT. In fact I thought it would be boring, but I was totally fascinated by it. Thanks!
34:45 Vince has a 3rd hand now! 😁
Haha, well spotted. That was my son pressing the power button whilst I tested for continuity 👍👍
Oh man, what a pleasant video to watch! The JOY when tinkering the binoculars is unmatched!
On those Sony headphones, check for condensation inside the ear cups. Condensation on a mic diaphragm can make the noise canceling go a bit crazy.
I have had one of those vices for years now, If you dampen the surface you are useing it on like a workbench or table top the suction cup at the bottem works realy well and it should not move as much, just thought you may like to know.
Hi Vince love the channel. How can I buy a box of "faulty/ returned" items such as you did for this video?
It absolutely does make a difference positive to negative on a speaker. Use a 1.5 volt alkaline battery tap each end to the terminal when the speaker pushes out that's the polarity for positive on the positive end of the battery and negative for the negative end of the battery
The spring sticking out of the back of the Yale door/window contact is a tamper switch.
You stick or screw the mounting plate to your door or window and if anyone tries to tamper with it by removing the door contact it will sound the alarm. The spring just applies pressure to the microswitch keeping it pressed in.
Re mirror cam, these are really popular with van drivers, as you can set the rear cameras to default display….that way you have a rear view mirror, even though you have no windows.
This vid inspired me to try and fix my PTZ Camera. Mine would pan up but not down. I was not able to fix it but mine seems to have been way more complicated inside. And while I was at it I found something interesting. My cam, like yours, has 2 antenna but only 1 is attached. I thought maybe it was broken but no, the MOBO itself only has one connection for it. The other antenna was still wired, but the wire was super short and just glued into the case, but otherwise not attached to anything.
Reminds me of a old radio shack device that had lead plate inside that served no purpose except for the perception of quality, because people wouldn't think a lightweight piece of plastic was worth as much as something with some heft to it.
I Geek camera. Seeing just those 4 gears reminded me on repairing my quartz clock movement. Bought in 1991 with a Westminster chime to add to a brass carriage clock. It died in 2021. So looked for a replacement, but non like this German one, now all the speakers are not internal like this one. Time for a fix. Took lots of photos of disassembly of many cogs. All that was left was a circuit board and speaker, plus the drive motor. Connected it to AA battery and motor dead. Then discovered no power exiting the quartz crystal. Had to buy 10 in a pack. Very fiddly job soldering this little tube in place. Anyway replaced all the cogs with a wipe of silicon fluid. It worked and now today still working like new. Well pleased. Love your channel as before knowing have fixed lots of stuff, mostly electronics.
hello the phone batteries may be deeply discharged. Certain phones cannot recharge the batteries if they are too discharged what would be necessary is to check the voltage of the batteries if they are too low it will be necessary to recharge them up to 3.7 volts no more with a laboratory power supply
this is how my first phone died

I wish i lived near you to assist you i love taking thing apart to see how it works and i have fixed things that other people thought was beyond repair. I tinker with everything i can get my hands on. From old radios as a kid to computers and cell phones today. I had built a wood workshop out of tool thrown out. Radial arm saw ,plainer, band saw, bench grinder, and more. Knew they cost close to $2000 all together, only cost me $40 in paint, blades, steel wool, sandpaper, and time. Full shop for $40 .the first thing i took apart and fixed was a water soaked radio someone tossed over the bridge into the creek, i took it home and dried it out and cleaned the contacts and after a month my dad let me plug it in , and to his surprise it worked just fine. But as a teenager i took his drill apart and didn’t know about the brushes and they popped out and i didn’t know how to put it back and neither did he. I was grounded for a month but it didn’t keep me from tacking stuff apart. Any way sorry for the long comment. Your doing what i always thought of doing , open up a fix it shop and have fun doing it. 👍
Find your local repair café, they're bound to welcome a new fixer. It's great fun helping someone with their broken items. The satisfaction of seeing their eyes light up when their beloved old item springs back into life makes it all worthwhile.
Ive never seen one of those tiny tactile switches taken apart. Your comm sense and creative ways of repair has resulted in me subscribing to your channel. Very cool work. Im not sure if you use a Hakko but what tip is that you have on your iron? I need to invest in one. How much does a box of returns like that cost?
When soldering the wires to the speaker...check the polarity with a small (AAA or AA) alkaline battery first. BATT POS to Speaker positive (RED) / BATT NEG to Speaker neg (BLACK or WHITE) should push the cone out. Not to be done for an extended amount of time...just a quick check to make sure the wires are soldered correctly vis a vis polarity.
I repair electronics, just a quick answer as to why you found the speaker disconnected on the jbl, people will buy a unit from someone else on ebay or amazon or another platform, swap the parts they need for their own and return it saying the item is nonfunctional or defective, people do this all the time and trust me it is frustrating as ebay or amazon does not care one bit.
I bought one of those mirror integrated cams for my wife's car.
They work well. You connect the the rear cam wires to your reverse lights at the back so when you put the car into reverse the screen changes to the rear camera view and ours has a projection of your rear manouver.
You also get full android support with voice control.
Great watch as ever Vince 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I'd have added solder to those failed clips on that little motor as well as what you did 👍🏻
What fun!! I don’t know how to solder so I haven’t been able to fix things I’ve taken apart where it was clear a wire was broken off. Will try next time, instead of tossing.
About phones. For me 5V 0.3A looks more like a hardware issue, battery have to be charged at least 1A, and anyway even at 0.3A ,after 1h, it have to hold charge. I think there is a short on the MB in one of the power rails
alot of these bluetooth speakers arent soldered on, once i got one as a gift and it wasnt working out the box so all i had to do was solder the speaker on and it worked. also the corrosion on that trail camera is probably from the flat batteries, because when they are flat alkaline batteries release potassium hydroxide which corrodes the material, which is why you need to be cautious when buying watches onlines that need their batteries changed because who knows how long they sat like that.
for the binoculars, the push thingies goes into the slot of the slider.
With the xm4, the microphones in the earcup get moisture damaged over time, de solder the microphones and put them in a small bag with some isopropyl alcohol en then put the bag in the ultrasonic cleaner, thats how i fixed my used broken worn out xm4
With binoculars, what you should have done was lower both sides to their lowest point before snapping them in
Vince.... an super easy trick... take any 1.5v battery AA, AAA, etc and touch the wires to the speaker terminals.... If it goes "out", you've got the positive on the right one, if it goes "in" reverse them.
Love this content Vince, looking forward to the next one.
Thank you Mike 👍
for the blackview phone, the sound on computer might be for flashing.. phone probably has some mediatek SoC inside, those phones actually flash that way, you open the program wich usually is called SP Flash tool , you put the scatter file for a rom wich want to flash (the rom should be for the specific phone ) , then you press start, and plug in the phone, it should start right away to flash, so it will not disconnect when it detects a flash process
I wouldn't put it past some buyers that they would actively damage the item prior to returning it as "defective" so they don't have to pay the return cost, as opposed to when you choose the "I changed my mind" option or "bought by mistake" etc.
It's kinda called the switcheroo for parts then send the item back claiming it doesn't work.
Does that really apply with Amazon? I don't often return stuff but the two times I've had to (both defective USB chargers!) they've just refunded as soon as the Royal Mail reported the item in their network. I don't think they bother to check stuff for faults.
Yea I’ve 100% heard of that happening before
I was just scrolling the comments because I knew I’d seem something like that before but couldn’t put my finger on how the scam works exactly
seems like a lot of effort to go through for a refund on such a cheap product
@@ThisSideGlassbottle651 Depends the reason that you choose when you tell Amazon why you want to return the item. If you select something like "I've changed my mind" or "No longer needed" etc. Amazon will deduct a return fee from the refund amount. Also like others mentioned, it could be a switcheroo for parts (or the entire item even).
I like how Vince prefers hardware based faults over software based faults!
I'm the exact opposite. I have fixed too many software problems on devices to count, but only fixed hardware faults that I could find tutorials for the exact model and exact problem for my devices.
This is why I'm watching Vince, because he understands circuitry and explains things in a way that it's understandable! He's showing us all how to fault find and repair hardware faults!
If I understood hardware on his tier, my next step in life would be learning to write my own drivers so I can create my own circuitry!
You two would make a great repair team by pooling your Hardware/Software knowledge.
How does one go about buying returned items from Amazon? I’m also someone that really loves troubleshooting and fixing electronics. Would be a lot of fun if the price were right. Hopefully lots of broken things.
Seems like he is not going to tell us.
You can get them by the pallet at auctions in the US.
@@christopherleubner6633 thanks for the info. I’m in Norway so cost would be prohibitive. Was hoping one could order just a box which he seems to be opening but then most likely it was one box of many from the pallet he ordered.
You did a very good job with the binoculars. I work with optics all the time an yes I was telling you or the screen how to do it 😂. Much respect for jumping in it and figuring it out. A lot of times the lenses will come off like a pop bottle top. But be careful and dont squeeze cause most binoculars are made from thin and light aluminum.
Maybe you can hold or press the buttons as you connect the USB to the PC to keep the connection going.

The xm4's are known to have an issue where they make a loud screeching sound in noise cancelling mode, due to humidity and condensation in the microphones. Maybe that was the issue with the ones in your video? Mine have this issue, would be interested in seeing if you could find a solution to the problem.

Reverse polarity can decrease the bass output. Correct polarity will contribute to proper soundstage. Normally there are little+- sign on speaker terminal but you'd spot that. If connected properly, bass will push cone out, if incorrectly, bass will pull cone in...
Bass goes both ways just FYI.
That's only true when two speakers are present- as one being out of phase will cancel the bass on the other. In a single speaker design it won't matter at all.
@@GenXPertChannel **disclaimer my knowledge is based off car audio but should reign true across audio**
IT CAN decrease bass output if out of phase or incorrect polarity.
Not just cancellation with another speaker but depending on the enclosure design there's been known to be significant loss when people invert subs but don't change the polarity at the terminals or turn phase to 180° if applicable. If you hooked your sub up incorrectly the same would apply but inverting is a common change people try not so much reversing polarity.
@@commonsenseisdeadin2024 The original topic was a single speaker- and in that case, it would matter not whether in phase or out of phase. You're talking about multi-speaker applications, which wasn't really the topic. You're correct, though, that sometimes one may need to run a sub out of phase with mains or another sub.
@@GenXPertChannel no I am talking single subwoofer (I didn't specify that it would appear)
I'm not sure the specifics (such as frequencies, duration, enclosure type or exactly why or what causes it) but sometimes having a single subwoofer inverted but not be hooked up reverse polarity or having the amplifier phase switched 180° (if applicable and note only 1 option is needed not both! This is true with reverse polarity in general but the sample size is much greater as stated in 1st comment) can yield less output and "sound off" or incorrect.
Or just hook the positive on the left with motor down/cone up and call it a day!
I would never have noticed the binoculars. I have mono sight witch means i can only see with one eye at the time. And if one i is blocked or out of focus i only recognise the eye that focus:) I had a nintendo virutal boy without realising the left screen was bad, probably from the factory.
I never heard of that condition before, that is pretty amazing that your brain shuts off the eye that is out of focus 👍 Cheers Anders
Yes, I have Amblyopia. It is weird because the bad eye is actually good, but the connections to the brain aren't quite there. The brain makes up for it though so stereo vision and spatial awareness still works well when both eyes are "online" but there is a big difference if one eye is shut over the other. I also found those 3D monitors very strange, I could see alternate scan lines depending which eye I blinked.
Binoculars I just ram the adjustment to maximum. Telescopes are monocular and I just use my good eye anyway.
"not sure how to take this apart, but I'll start giving this a pull and giving that a yank", I can't count how many times that exact process has been the solution for me when working around the home😂
And with the binoculars, ive found sometimes pipe thread (or pipe d0pe) sealant will help keep screws in place while you check, rather than superglue. At least initially.
Vince, how and where do you get these little boxes of treasure? What's the approximate price for a box like that?
Most likely a liquidations auction. Might've sold the box as a returns box.
Seems like he is not going to tell us.
two fake cameras is normal, it doesn't mean its dodgy. I would just try to re-flash it anyways. you could also just use a different PC that you don't care about (Like a test PC). You can also disconnect as many things inside the phone (except for the battery and any cables leading to the charging port) and let it charge overnight. I have woken up dead iPad batteries with this method. Its because the screen and other components use power while its charging so it cant charge. Once you get it above that battery threshold it should work.
Where do you buy these Amazon returns? Once you fix these things, where do you sell it? Thanks!
34:48 oh my gosh the phone also came with a third hand to help repair it! that’s ingenuity if I’ve ever seen it
With the binoculars... all you do was lift up the fork & drop it back over the pin on the lens slider. Look at the video before you take it to bits. One fork is each side of the pin, the other fork is completely behind the pin. 12:17. Yes, I was shouting at the screen 🤣🤣
Me too 😂
LOL I bet lots of folks will shout at the screen.
wasn't shouting but checked the comments to make sure I wasn't the only one that noticed😅😅
@@chrisrobson8540 👍🏻🤣🤣🤣
The problem was the pin was loose, adjusting the fork didn't make a difference.
I loved this video! Like Sherlock Holmes of electronics. I was also genuinely excited when you figured out the binoculars. Also, Hugh Jeffries from Australia is a great resource for the phones.
Love the videos, sad thing is although Amazon have a dispatch centre in Australia, I believe we're too stingy to send stuff back so no mystery boxes in Australia except for fake ones on ebay. As to the Sony headphones I was lucky enough to pick up a set for 5 dollars op shop wise, and your right you get the buzzing if it's not set right but it's very eerie noise cancelling wise because your right it's dead quiet in cancellation mode. Lovely video again Vince very watchable and great to see all the good stuff Amazon put into their English mystery boxes. Also I may be wrong but on the white lead mount on the speaker there is usually a plus sign in the plastic. As to making a difference, I would think it would because you want the speaker to push out in the right part of the sound sine wave, which means positive it pushes out, and if reversed some audiophiles say even a single speaker will sound different, but I'm usually wrong.
Saved fellow Aussie from searching Amazon. Audiophiles have very vivid imagination.
@@iconocladit's only for us audiophiles with the superlative sound systems that enable them to listen to DC sound content. I love relaxing to a 2 hour program of DC piped through my 2kW sound system- It's by Artist-Formerly-Known-As-Edison
I really enjoyed the binoculars.some pretty neat design work there.simple but affective
Absolutely enjoyed this Vince great selection, can’t wait for the rest of the items… I’m really considering getting a box of returns for myself 😊
hey vince with the Blackview from powered off hold power on and volume up and you will be able to get into the bootloader to do a factory reset on it by using the volume buttons to select on screen options and power to select.. hope it works for you pal
Hi Vince, could you please let us know where you bought your Amazon returns from? Is there a specific websit?
Some years ago I bought a 40ft truck load of customer return bikes from Argos via there trade website, and about 30% of them were unopened and brand new. After that I bought about 500 telephones from them.
34:40 I love how he just casually pulled out a third hand because two wasn't enough.
Hey just want to say thank for the content! And I’m wondering where you buy these boxes? There are so many scams out there… 😊
I love seeing a RUclipsr's face for the first time... they never look like I imagined they would based on just their voice lol.
what a great hobby. Where did you get the return package?
I would love to try my luck with these :D
I tried it and all I got was a mystery box containing a cheap watch and mobile head phones with a jack connection? absolute rip-off, in total worth about £5?
A phone charging like this means the battery is flat. The charge controller tries to safely kick start it by applying a little current until it comes back to life. It may take 2-3 hours depending on how much juice was left in the battery. You can't turn on the phone nor see any indication on the screen while it's in this state. Once the battery come back to life (if it ever does) the screen will come on and display an image of a battery. You still have to wait a bit until it changes to at least 5% before you can turn the phone on. The USB issue is related to this aswell. The USB controller chip is powered by the USB port and it initialize itself so you hear the connected noise but then it tries to talk to the phone to actually transfer data to the computer - you can connect to a phone that's off to recover data or flash the software. It can't come on since the battery has no power so the USB controller resets, that's the disconnect noise. If the battery has power then the charge controller is faulty.
That's true but most chinease phones just flat battery you need to charge it with power supply to 3.7v at least
If battery doesn't accept charge you can revers polarity with power supply for 2 seconds and charge it normally some batteries protection hang and this method is the way to fix it
Do you buy from the same seller regularly. If so which one?
I don't have your technical expertise but it looks like fun rummaging through a box of unknown items looking for repairable faults.
Some execution auction shops do this sometimes, and otherwise you will probably take a look at some of the companies around Amazon that do these types of services. I've gotten some great second hand stuff from those execution-style auctions (typically selling goods from companies going bankrupt for instance, or in the case of my workplace: going to move and not having a need for some of the equipment in the building anymore and not having the time ourselves for selling it ourselves.)
8:29 as someone who worked in a returns dept for an online retailer the main reason is that the person processing the return didn't care. We have to get through that shit as quick as possible and in most cases just take the customers word for it.
If I were to guess, I'd say one of the wires to the speaker was broken (from the factory or in transit), and the person who got it opened it up to see why it didn't work, but couldn't fix it themselves (and probably accidentally removed the speaker all the way while inspecting it), so they returned it.
