Hey, Ian here and I’m excited to join the ranks of ALTER with Safe and Sound. I made the film as an atmospheric love letter to all things 70s/80s Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter. I’ve always had a deep fondness for visually stunning films that bring impossible what-ifs and terrifying unknowns into our homes and leave you questioning every bump in the night. Great job on the monsters. Only show them in brief flashes. Show the results of the actions instead of the actions themselves. Suspense 101

i think what really did it for me was the security alarms going off. what started as something so inconvenient and even annoying to the protagonists, it’s chilling when the story progresses. excellent job

that’s the thing i love about horror. it doesn’t need to be gory or a jump scare. turning the mundane things we see and use on a day to day basis into an element of tension or suspense is impactful, and this was wonderfully portrayed!! kudos to you and the team

Damn, that was excellent! First it promises serial killer vibes, then monsters, and then that hole! Would love an expanded version that goes into more detail with what's happening in the world
Would love to flesh out the characters and world more. Definitely have some bigger thematic ideas connecting the family and creatures.
This was really original and a fresh take on the babysitter horror genre....I loved how Mia at the end seemed to be faced with choosing between the horror of being in a building as it collapses during an earthquake versus the horror of being eaten alive by whatever has emerged from the hole...
Ok so.... This legitimately scared me. Im 36 yrs old, scary movies don't usually get me. I'm normally left feeling simply entertained by a horror film. This... This is what I needed! Great work Ian!

It's so hard to tell what sex are the babysitter and the kid by just looking at them. It's sort of uncanny. That contributes to the eerie weird atmosphere, even if it was unintentional. Nice lil movie.
Also I *LOVE* the subtle exposition, via news in the background and Instagram on the babysitter's phone. You're "awarded" for paying attention and not being a simpleton, but the movie is not one of those pretentious wannabe artpieces that just introduces a notion without any explanation behind it (lazy writing).
The actors did a phenomenal job.

Bam. This was a great setup with the Earthquake and babysitting . The two leads were believable and their interactions felt natural.
The minimum visuals of the creature was an excellent call as it worked well. It accomplished the same thing as Jaws and Alien.
The use of the alarm system to communicate information to the characters and to the viewer was a great angle.
Upstanding work to all involved.

Thanks so much for watching. The concept for the alarm system actually came from the house we shot in. It beeped in the middle of the night and we weren't sure if it was someone just opening a window or something else. It was a great jumping off point.
This is a superior short film which succeeds on all levels. The cinematography, acting, spfx are top tier!
I hope that Alter never stops giving content!

I really enjoyed it, also, that house was huge. So many doors and windows.
It was a perfect location, kind of reminded me of the hotel from The Shining.
I'm glad that they mixed the audio in such a way as to say "You know, the dialogue really isn't important. It's okay if you can't here it". That is BRAVE film making.

Everyone did so good in this one. It was scary, the acting was great, the atmosphere was really tense and freaky. Loved it.
This has "the gate" written all over it.
Well, that was a cool, current day take on the classic babysitter horror movie genre, while still maintaining a retro vibe 🖤!
Wow I'm pretty desensitized to horror but this short got my adrenaline going I wish you had a budget to put animatronics instead of CGI other than that it was great
Definitely would have loved a bigger budget, but we had to work with what we had. But I grew up with animatronics, so I understand where you're coming from. Thanks so much for watching!

I could see this as a tv show
This was amazing and I enjoyed it a lot. The atmosphere was so intense and not knowing what is happening around you was so unnerving. Then seeing those monsters just come in and rip apart everything. I thought maybe the boy was a monster or something but yet he comes out of a hiding spot at the end only to find an endless pit that goes on forever and Mia is missing. Pretty cool story, I loved it! This would have been awesome if it was a full movie, and it was explored a bit more. Amazing job on this and thank you for the upload. I'm sitting here at 3:15 a.m. unable to sleep so this is always a good way to pass the time.

She should have been quicker to let her boyfriend inn when she knew that there was something wierd around the house.
VERY GOOD SCARY AND CREPPY MOVIE
This is a intriguing concept, also awesome performance from the kid! Though I must say that at one point the main character started to really annoy me with how slow she reacted to everything.
