- This walk in cooler was warm and took some investigating to find all the problems that were wrong. The compressor would not run for long even after cleaning the coil.

Good video Rick, that was an interesting one. I learned the hard way with strapping ladders. When I first started working the wind blew my ladder off and it hit someone’s car. I was lucky it did not hit a person. Now I strap my ladder every time no matter what.

Good video I never thought of replacing the fan
It took me awhile to figure it out. The amperage was over but I blamed that on the capacitors originally. The oily motors were what justified the replacement for me. Thanks 4 the feedback 👍👍

Good catch. sometimes the motors fool you. i carry a pressure washer that sucks water from a bucket so i dont have to depend on a water source for a nice cleaning. I do agree Buildings should all have water sources on the roof. Good job keep the videos coming.
I have a worx sprayer and a 120v pump motor, but with the weather breaking and the coil looking clean enough I didn't figure it would make that much more of a difference. Thanks for the view and feedback 👍👍

HVACR Survival great. I have been watching your video and other. I had emergency brain surgery from a hematoma. I have not been working for a year. I go back to work August 1. I had to do physical therapy and occupational therapy. I only have 3 years to retire full pension from the Union here in California. I had to learn how to walk again. I got a clean bill of health. I am lucky my employer wants me back. They said I can do Teck support and Project management to I retire.. I use to work for York/JCI chiller division and start up . This trade has taken me all over the world and met some of the most brilliant people . I am going to miss it when I retire. Your video has helped me and other videos from others helping me feel confident I still have my HVAC chops. Thank you for helping me feel confident

If you wind the suction valve in to drop the suction pressure down to what it would be with a normal room temp, it'll give you more of an idea how the condenser is coping.

I have done that for compressors that are pulling over RLA, but haven't tried it in this situation 👍👍. I'll try it next time.

You have a good approach when trouble shooting a unit. I could see the difference in the fan speed when you changed them.
unfortunately I noticed that while at home editing the video😁. Even with 60 fps the new motors were spinning much faster because you couldn't see them spinning in slow motion. (To the naked eye they looked the same.) Thanks for taking the time to check it out and leaving in a comment 👍👍
Maybe add a tachometer to your kit. 1550rpm is the usual spec. Those likely were running closer to 800-1000rpm.
get a 4000 rpm.......that way, you can use it on small engines that generally run around 3000. Hercules HF 6 to 99,000 RPM with reflective tape.........or use HVAC reflective duct tape.

I got a set of those dial gauges awhile back after I saw you use them: Great for low loss and instant response for pump downs and the like. Love em. Like my Fieldpiece too, but these definitely have their place!

I like them gauges because I keep them in my service bag. I think it's time to buy some new ones though, they're getting a little out of whack 😁
I had a 20 door RIF go down. Unfortunately, the headmaster was in total bypass mode on the condenser. That was not a fun call.
That's what I figured was happening at first. That sucks big time when it does.

Always wanted to try pressurizing pump sprayer with nitrogen , with safety relief of course.
Electric pump is a lot easier but either should work.
Interesting call. I think this was a good example of a lot of little things adding up to a bigger problem. Weak condenser fan motors, dirty condenser, a big load that the unit is trying to pull down, and a high ambient. I was thinking with those storm clouds rolling in the machine was probably dealing with a high Rh as well. Did you check for a temp difference across the filter dryer? That could increase your head too. I think the headmaster was operating properly. Good video, thanks.

At first glance the rotation on the fans seemed to have the blades backwards
I'm shooting video at 60 frames a second so it slows down motion sometimes.
Even with the frames per second the old motors still looked slow. When you swapped em the new ones were moving much faster

That’s odd, I have a walk-in freezer that was just like that. I washed the coil down first, replaced the headmaster too because it wasn’t cooling off even with water being sprayed on it he coil ( it should have crashed. ). Figured it was bypassing hot gas to the receiver just enough to make sure he head go high and nuisance trip me.

It's been very dry here lately. I recorded this a month ago.
The oil on the motor did not come from the motor.... I would spray the coils with chemicals and water to get them clean. Also I think you have oil migration too. Get that oil back to the compressor after the blocked evaporator and condenser coils are cleaned. Moving the oil takes time....
I prefer washing the coils out any day over blowing them out, but the back door was bolted shut and I couldn't get it open and the drive-thru window was way up front so it would have made a heck of a mess. Thanks for the feedback 👍👍
running hoses thru the drive thru window isnt a good option! It wasnt like the coil was greased up. Blowing with nitrogen is the only other way. Like i said in my response, i do have a pressure washer that sucks water thru a bucket.
Good one. Finally someone besides me has no water on the roof. They never make it easy for the techs. They will make it easy peasy for everyone else. Those new fans made a big difference, you can see the speed on the video. Can you post a link to your RPM tool?

I have had a couple units do the same thing, fans seemed to checked out ok. I wonder if my issues were the same you had.

Did you come up with anything on the bosch unit? I can't find the video now? Wanted to report back with the findings on mine. The super heat was anywhere from 4 to 12 degrees depending on compressor RPM. Inside humidity is running anywhere from 53 to 62 percent.
The supplier is trying to help get the system corrected so I removed the video. They ordered a adjustable TXV but that got delayed in a shipping issue so I don't have anything to report. I'm going to see if the correct superheat helps first before pressing for larger remedy's.

High load, suction goes up so will the head.

Sometimes, something could lead to an interesting thing like the fans aren’t spinning fast enough.

I'm waiting for an adjustable TXV, I'm giving the supplier an opportunity to get the system running correctly. Once I have a remedy or hit a block wall I will let everyone know what worked or didn't work.

What I did is more than most will do. Sometimes I'll use a garden hose or my pump sprayer but didn't see a reason to under the conditions. Thanks 4 watching 👍👍

2uF cap, 6% tolerance is only 0.12, so below 1.88uF = bad and will change motor rpm too much, even if you allow 10% tolerance that's 1.6uF at lowest. simply too much for such small motors.
don't forget the lower value caps have very tight leeway to be within tolerance.
Exactly, and the oil on the motor was not from the birds and the worms😁, that was my other reasoning for not just changing the capacitor. 👍👍

Yes it's right at its maximum amperage. Haven't had a problem with these motors yet.
@UCyj66snU6-HG39GgYj_uIgQ correct, if you pull over the rating of the motor you could go off on thermal. This extra heat can lead to the breakdown of the insulation that protects the windings of the motor.
Could someone direct me to a decent yet non expensive 20x20x5 MERV 11 Filter for a Goodman unit? with how much they tend to cost i'm trying to make sure i dont get the wrong one even if its the right size :/
