I agree. Nothing, but a notebook. I do everything in it. It’s a planner Also, I write my grocery list in it and take it to the store. It’s always with me.
I put my grocery list on my phone calendar so it is with me all the time and I can add to it without looking for a pen. Don't have to carry anything else. Writing it down is a good idea though if your phone gets destroyed or lost. Historical things need to be written down always.

What the research shows is that we’re relying on phones _and their internet access_ to keep us from having to remember anything on our own. With internet, you don’t even have to write something down; you just look it up when you need it. This causes you to not exercise your memory and recall ability which impairs your ability to remember things and creates a dependence on that always connected device that leaves you stuck if you ever don’t have that connection or your device. But writing it down (even in your phone) isn’t damaging your brain. In fact, the act of writing it down actually acts as an extra buffer for remembering what it is that you wrote down, because now you have not just the original memory in your brain, but also the memory of remembering it or needing it and writing it down. That causes it to burn more thoroughly into your brain.

I use these as well. My big problem with printed planners is too much space is taken up with crap. Who needs a fricking dedicated space to list your moods, anyway. I am either pissed off or neutral. People fill their planners with stickers and washi tape. Too much time spent designing planner pages and not enough time getting crap done.
This is just a form of bullet journaling. For those that want this, but want a little better quality, you can always get larger size bullet journals, theyre not all book size, or, if you want to remove pages, although slightly harder to find, they do have ones with perforated pages for removing. Alternatively, keep a glue stick on you to stick pages together. However! Notebooks are incredibly underrated and very, incredibly valid, and can help *so* much when all you need is a simple place to throw all of your tasks in. For this girly? Look up the original bullet jornal videos, totally easy to find. Everything you have here, but with simple, easy to organize and remember bullets. Probably less than ten minutes. You could benefit from it, and if you change nothing? Thats cool! That means you already found something that works perfect for you! But you can always learn and grow, and the original videos are an amazing way to help understand how, and *why* you are helping organize your life.
Yes! I use a simple planner that just has the weeks and days laid out. Simple works. I’ve tried fancy ones and pretty ones, but pointless to need to be pretty and not function

Thank you for sharing this.. I just ordered a planner with such sections I must fill out and I'm already aware of the potential to let myself down there. I'll look at it when it arrives but I'm thinking I'll just do bujo in a simple spiral notebook. So thank you again, now I know I'm not alone in my thinking. 😅
Love it!!! As a professional project manager I totally love your system. I also personally make use of a few sticky notes which can easily be moved around if the item doesn’t get finished as planned. You go girl!
absolutely there is a system here. I was a project manager for years. Started long before it was the norm for people to use anything but lined paper to take notes and heavy leather Franklin planners to keep track of meetings and I was utilizing this method. I evolved quickly with my note taking and calendar to my laptop and tried to use various apps, web sites, etc. but nothing worked as well as my bullet lists to keep track of tasks for the the day for work, home, volunteer, etc. Everyone has to figure out what works for them to keep them on track. There is no right or wrong. I mentored a lot of people in my career and everyone has their own way of checking the boxes.
Thank you for saving me from dropping an insane amount of money on a planner that I know I’ll only use 1% of. 😂 Seriously, I was looking at planners on Amazon recently when you posted this - budget planners, actually, but this video inspired me to just use a notebook and design budgeting, savings, expense, etc. pages in a way that works for me. Seems silly to spend a ton of money on a thing hoping to help you save money. 😂
But it's already obvious u don't need to buy a planner to create a to do list. I write things in my phone, on post it's, and loose pieces of paper, if not the back of a notebook. It's really not revolutionary wat she's saying.
I use an excel spreadsheet for budgeting. The first tab shows ALL insurance policies on top left with notes about their start and end dates, amounts, due dates and I do the sum formula to tell me at a glance what I pay monthly on insurance. I do the same for utilities and for debts. 2nd tab is my specific month where I list what is due from the 1st to the 31st And I'm getting more elaborate with it so that I can survive right now because I'm paycheck to paycheck and it's really cool and helpful. @@dig1272You sound impressively organized, but living on a strict budget, this is necessary to make it from check to check. I hope things will ease up for you in the new year.
68 years old and have never been able to think with planners or bullet journals. For some reason this clicked. What I am going to do on the first 2 pages, though, is a spread on what I want to accomplish for the year as a focus, the 4 things I always mean to accomplish, but never do, like achieve and maintain a healthy weight, finally get my house in order... etc. Having it all in one notebook (bought a sparkly rose gold version so I don't lose it :D) in a format I can think with will really help. Thank you!
Make sure to write your phone number and name on it, just in case it needs to be returned to you! Notebooks like this always worked for my Mom, so this short made me think of her.
This all makes great sense. My husband always bought the dollar store calendar with a month on 2 pages and wrote all his appointments in there. We followed this for 32 years of our marriage until his passing. We told people, "If you want a piece of our time, ya gotta get on the square."
This is exactly why I bullet journal! I plan my week, meal plan, grocery list, events, practice plans for the basketball team I coach, etc. I keep a dollar tree calendar inside of it so I can have future events and planning in there. I use a sticky note or scrap piece of paper to do a block schedule on the days I have a lot to get done so I stay on track.
Every year I get a Blue Sky planner from Amazon. I love it because it has weekly and mthly layouts in one book. The notebook would be difficult to use for future dates but a great idea for planning out your week with more details. BTW it costs $10 sometimes $8 on sale.
My mom did something similar. She called her notebook "her brain". She'd have a page with the grocery list, meal plan, chores, tasks, events. It was a thing. If you're going to carry this notebook with you, splurge an extra $5-9 and buy a hardback. 😊 In my experience, there's a reason the $1 is that cheap.
Unfortunately for me, I dump all my ideas in one page, and the next set of ideas end up in a different notebook on a different page all over the place. I'll try this, wish me luck lol
I love this idea. I've always hated the little boxes on planners that don't relate to how I think. I'm going to try this. What a money saver. Thanks so much.
Thank you for reminding us that we don't need fancy bullet journals or planners! Just go back to the basics like we did back in the day. Simple and we can choose to do what we want to our notebook. Society now makes things so complicated and has to be "esthetic " to "be productive" not true!! Lol. Thanks again for the reminder!! Happy New Year!
Those of us who are "old" have been doing this for decades! Glad to see those young are catching up that you don't need fancy calendars or constrained planners to make your work flow easy!
Biggest lesson i learnt in 2022/23 in the trading market is that nobody knows what is going to happen next, so practice some humility and follow a strategy with a long term edge.
Nobody knows anything; You need to create your own process, manage risk, and stick to the plan, through thick or thin, While also continuously learning from mistakes and improving.
Uncertainty... It took me 5 years to stop trying to predict what about to happen in market based on charts studying, because you never know not having a mentor cost me 5 years of pain I learn to go were the market is wanting to go through the help of my advisor and keep it simple with discipline.
Definitely! All of this happened in less than a year after *Camille Alicia Garcia* told me what to do. I started with less than $100,000, and now I'm about 17,000 short of having a quarter million dollars.
In 2019 I was researching bullet journals, but none met my needs. So I got an Apple Pencil and the app GoodNotes for my iPad. The first year I purchased an undated electronic BuJo from Etsy and I reuse and update from there. If it is not working for me, I create new formats for my pages however I want them. I like doing it electronically because you can cut/copy/paste, change colors, write in cursive or dictate and the program converts to text. Or just write in your own handwriting. This will be my 5th year and I LOVE it!!!
A lot of comments are saying this but in defense of this video, i never thought bullet journaling was for me because it always looked like they were spending sooo much time on the aesthetics. This was so much more actionable than anything else ive seen
I’ll repeat something I posted in another comment. I value this video because it reminds me that My best bullet journaling was done in old recycled notebooks. I had no problem with them not being pretty. With a brand new notebook, even the minimalist journals with only dots in them, I tend to get paralyzed by the anxiety of it needing to be perfect. So for me this is getting back to basics.
Whenever I look at a complicated and thick planner, springs pop out of my head!!! A simple month at a glance calendar and a spiral or steno notebook and I have all I need!!!
I use a plain spiral as well, but I have not been doing the monthly spread, just daily’s. I’ve tried finding videos just about planning, but it seems most are just decorating them, which is not my goal. Thanks for simplifying it, not decorating it 😁 Merry Christmas 🎄
I do have actual planner for keeping track of money and appointments and family events but my day to day tasks, quotes, musings, and to do lists go in a monthly notebook! New month, new notebook !
You just saved me tons of money, was looking at all the planners popping up on my various social media feeds and then this came up, so easy and exactly the format i need
Nope : Annual Daily planner with time in half hour increments…..I can see the entire week on 2 pages . I am ADD - I can see everything right in front of me and it works very well for me!
Thank you, agree 💯. Spiral notebooks are awesome and I keep many for life areas like to do lists, poetry and creative ideas, trainings and work stuff, trip planning and bills. They are like a personal assistant when life picks up and you realize you can no longer just rely on memory. Use them in conjunction with phone calendar and whiteboard decal month calendar in the kitchen for family. I love the idea of topic buckets and first learned of this in Julia Morgenstern's book Organizing from the Inside Out and Time Management from the Inside Out.
I agree, I use a cheap 1 subject for my finance and a cuter notebook for to-do lists and schedule mapping. I love the idea of stickers and tabs but I don't use them.
Lol. You just described exactly what I have found out. Planners w restrictions. Plain lined pages work so much better to freeform your thoughts, to do, to call, 😮 , etc
I do this exact thing. Mom of 6 here along with a nurse,, business owner and soon to be RUclips and this video of what we do is a life saver. It keeps our life sane and less messy. ❤
I love this idea. I have never found anything that works with my brain and I need to quit trying to pretend I’m not a visual person and quit trying to hold everything in my head.
Yes!!! I have been using a plain notebook for the last year, and it has been great… BUT you just totally explained it in a way that I think will help me even more!!! Thank you for sharing!!
I have severe ADHD and play all videos on 1.5-2x speed. Usually shorts drive me crazy because they aren't adjustable. I was so pleased with her speech cadence in this.
@@sambbbb They’re adjustable if you tap to go to the channel and watch the short directly from their RUclips channel as a RUclips video instead of a RUclips Short. Then you have all the normal playback controls. Search me as to why Google has to ruin RUclips by trying to copy an inferior platform and include duplicate but incompatible controls in half their app and no way to easily switch between them so you can use what actually works for you. I think they’ve completely forgotten how to design software.
I’ve spent thousands of $$ on planners/stationery/supplies over the past 11 years. I’m currently destashing all of it and switching to a cheap spiral notebook like this (got one for 10 cents after redeeming my Walgreens rewards points! 🙌🏼). So.much.better. I’ve gotten into the #minimalism movement lately, and decluttering my entire life. It feels amazing.
Thank you! The best. I really appreciate this as a mom planning to start my own RUclips painting channel this year. And just in time for the new year! 💖✨
I do the same! It's easy and smart. I have occasionally used an ARC page style so I feel a tad more chic, but use it.the same way. Makes me happy and organized.
I have been doing this for over 20 years but the 5 * 8 which usually has enough space for whole year. I save them so I can always look back just like notes. Very useful.
I use a dated planner because I need the dates and the uniformity, so it's more than $1, but yes, you don't need a $300 stack of paper to plan or get things done or be organized.
I take the time every few weeks to mark up the dates on the pages of my notebook. One of those repetitive, fairly mindless jobs, but satisfying when you come to use those pages.
I customize a free calendar from the web and print it out at the office. Since it's my work planner, it costs me $0. The company pays for a few sheets of paper, rather than a $12 planner from their office supply vendor.
Brilliant! This resolves the problem of losing tasks on old dated pages, reduces the amount of rewriting, and automatically incorporates the weekly review that so many professional organizers recommend. Thank you so much!
I use keep notes on my phone to make my lists as you have on your planner. The beauty of this is that it is paperless and it is always with me. I have it when I'm out and about it is handy.
I 100% agree! I started planning using a small lined notebook like this which seemed to work. But then I wanted a fancy planner which was a disaster. I stopped using it in May because it was too constrained like you mentioned. I might get a regular sized notebook like this because I need organization again
Ah minimal mom just showed the same thing! Love it! This is basically what I do but when I see shiny planners I get the itch to buy one and have definitely fallen for it a few times. It never works out. Last year I donated a brand new Happy planner. I just dinner use it! Took me forever to pass it on because it was a gift from a friend and she was so excited to give it me.
Thank you for sharing ma'am, but here's an even better hack, utilizing your calendar on your phone. I mean I literally have everything planned out from one month to the next and sometimes a year in advance, and if I need to change it, guess what I just simply change the date & time on it the task at hand and move it to the appropriate date, as well as color coded and yes bullets are awesome😁 thank you for sharing 💫
You just made my life so much easier! I have a file cabneit full of waisted planners that cost to much $$$. This advice is a game changer! Thank you for the simplicity ❤
You got it!! I was an Event Planner for 23 years and a legal pad, a clipboard and black and red pens were my best friends...got it done then and I still use this method daily in personal life! saves big $$$ I also use Google Tasks and Google Calendar
I’ve been thinking about this since it came out. I’ve come back to say thanks, just scribbled my own version out and my head feels a lot clearer. Thanks for continually making us great content, love from London England! X
I love that it's simple, so many productivity people make these beautiful planners with stickers and boxes using different pens and highlighters but it takes too much time to do that, you have to be good at drawing/creative to do them, and I swear half of them are unemployed and living at home because they leave tiny spaces for to do lists in their journals, I cant fit all the things i have to do in tiny boxes.
Yep! You and my daughter Rebecca.💐 I do also, but since retirement (45 years in Education Grade 2 to University🤯)... I went back to the common Planner- Weekly/Monthly. PS I truly enjoy your energy and compassion for others who might feel overwhelmed.♥️🥰 Thank you.
Excellent advice. I have a huge stack of expensive journals, planners, budget books, fitness trackers, nutrition journals - even one that's meant to break through procrastination. Not one has been used, because of all the reasons you stated. I'll take your advice, before I succumb to the New Year sales pitches again. 😊
I love that you found what works for you, but my ADHD could never 😩 I need full-blown auditory and visual queues to get my attention, such as the ones provided by my iPhone 📱
Same. I end up bouncing between about four planners/journals throughout the year. Recently I've given up on most of them and just been using my phones calendar and alarms
I try to use my cellphone, but I usually forget, and the agenda app to me is not “tasty” enough. Don’t take my attention, let me lost, it’s a total mess. For finances I’m trying a bought planner, but for personal, until now the best is still the old BuJo.
I also have ADHD. I find myself more accountable when things are dated (even if it’s hand written) If it’s not dated that means I can do it the next day but I never do. 😂😢😅❤

Do you mind sharing the links for the things you mentioned? I’m still trying to find something that works for me. Recently diagnosed with adhd at 52
I do this, too! Those planners just don't have what I need, especially because I like a Sunday start.
You are literally doing bullet journaling in a notebook. Yes you showed that you can do bujo in any medium
A lot of comments are saying this but in defense of this video, i never thought bullet journaling was for me because it always looked like they were spending sooo much time on the aesthetics. This was so much more actionable than anything else ive seen
@Danielle Raso I really recommend the book from Ryder Caroll then. He invented the system. I promise you there is not a single drawing :)
I doubt you can find me a bujo tutorial that's this simple.
@@danielleraso5419 Agreed! Also thought bullet journaling is too time-consuming and just complicated.
They show the decorating part only bcos the planning part is mainly their private affairs
Very practical but I prefer a disc notebook, much easier to add/remove pages. Buy it once & refill pages as you like.
I do have actual planner for keeping track of money and appointments and family events but my day to day tasks, quotes, musings, and to do lists go in a monthly notebook! New month, new notebook !
do you fill up a notebook in one month ?
I like the strategy. New month and new notebook.
Great plan, thanks for the tips. I love how a one dollar notebook is the GOAT.
You just saved me tons of money, was looking at all the planners popping up on my various social media feeds and then this came up, so easy and exactly the format i need
Simple but Genius!!! Love it!! And congratulations!!
Nope : Annual Daily planner with time in half hour increments…..I can see the entire week on 2 pages . I am ADD - I can see everything right in front of me and it works very well for me!
Yes, love this! I do the same thing. plus it saves money on expensive planners. I also like to use multiple colors for different projects.
You just showed the BEST Planner EVER! Thank you! 🎄
Omg, my adhd brain has finally found something that feels like it will work for me. 😊 Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Lol. You just described exactly what I have found out. Planners w restrictions. Plain lined pages work so much better to freeform your thoughts, to do, to call, 😮 , etc
Gurlllllll 😮I have been using this type planner since I was 16 and now at 54 years young still keep my life discipline in dollar notebook 📒 ❤
Girl yeesss! Thank you for this. Life is so much easier this way❤️❤️👍
This is beautifully simple.❤️ I bullet journal and also have those categories, I just have more categories in top of to dos.
I wish u would do a full video on this
There is one :) check "life changing productivity secret" video I made about 2 years ago
@@thatpracticalmom be great to do a new one
I do this exact thing. Mom of 6 here along with a nurse,, business owner and soon to be RUclips and this video of what we do is a life saver. It keeps our life sane and less messy. ❤
I love this idea. I have never found anything that works with my brain and I need to quit trying to pretend I’m not a visual person and quit trying to hold everything in my head.
I use a small binder so I can add and remove pages. Good video!
Cool. I just spent 3 weeks looking for the perfect planner to no avail.
I bought a blank notebook instead. ❤
Yes!!! I have been using a plain notebook for the last year, and it has been great… BUT you just totally explained it in a way that I think will help me even more!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Can I see a detailed version of this? I do feel this is what will work for me.
She did it in a RUclips video... ruclips.net/video/ylSjb3bFMnQ/видео.html&ab_channel=ButFirst%2CCoffee
ruclips.net/video/ylSjb3bFMnQ/видео.html&ab_channel=ButFirst%2CCoffee
AND you can decorate it for $1 with Dollar Tree stickers. EVEN could use a photo or make a decorative cover. TFS🙌
The only thing I would add is I also need to see a monthly calendar. The visual aide helps.
Happy New Year! 🐾🍸🎩🎈🎊
An excellent way to organize your life 👏. Two thumbs up 👍.
Been using spiral notebooks for years like this. Different colors have different uses.
Do you mean you use different colored notebooks or different color pens? What are the uses?
I think I need this, but I think I need to slow down my playback speed…maybe too much coffee😂
Yep. Waaaay to fast for me. :)
lol, thanks for reminding me… way too fast !
That’s what “pause” is for
Amen sister! My thoughts exactly. Don’t need an expensive notebook that’s a work of art. Just cheap, minimal, and effective. I love it!
This is what I’ve used for so long. My bf doesn’t get it. I hate being restrained to sections tht won’t do me any good. Love this always have. 😊
I always need a calendar. However u could always just tapr one inside your notebpok
I draw out my own calendar inside
Yes or use in conjunction with phone calendar.
One of those repetitive, fairly mindless jobs, but satisfying when you come to use those pages.
perfect... you hv open pages to go with your own flow and how your brain naturally works 👍👏🏼
I love the simplicity of this!
Please may you do a longer video on this? It would be so helpful :D
You, Precious, Are a Gift that will keep on Giving Coin and Blessings to You .Thank You and FEEL The LOVE ❤️😘
I like it but PLEASE STOP CALLING EVERYTHING A “HACK“
I think she is calling it a hat because people seem to think you need a fancy journal to plan
I customize a free calendar from the web and print it out at the office. Since it's my work planner, it costs me $0. The company pays for a few sheets of paper, rather than a $12 planner from their office supply vendor.
This sounds interesting. Where do you find yours?
What app is that?
@@familyfuncafeandicecream7102 keep notes is part of Google package on my phone. It's free
Yes! I would buy a planner and end up using my notebook 🤣 I appreciate your content!
I wish this was a normal video which i could save, and slow the speed of.
Look back at my old videos :) I have one called "life changing productivity secret" that's similar to this just longer. It's like from 2 years ago
You can save to a playlist now
Thank you for sharing ma'am, but here's an even better hack, utilizing your calendar on your phone. I mean I literally have everything planned out from one month to the next and sometimes a year in advance, and if I need to change it, guess what I just simply change the date & time on it the task at hand and move it to the appropriate date, as well as color coded and yes bullets are awesome😁 thank you for sharing 💫
That's better for some people
You just made my life so much easier! I have a file cabneit full of waisted planners that cost to much $$$. This advice is a game changer! Thank you for the simplicity ❤
As someone with ADHD, this is all I’ll ever need.
Thank you. God's Love and Blessings.
Ok I’m not buying anymore planners in 2023. I need to try this method
Did it help (when I am writing this, it is a couple weeks until 2024)
Thanks for this! Was thinking about purchasing a planner that I probably would only use once.
This is amazing I need to try this. I’ve spent too much money on planners in the past! 😅
I use composition notebooks like this all the time, except I add parts of the bullet journal method, such as an index, a key, and a future log.
Yep, I'm another just use a notebook kind of woman. Cheap, really customizable, and easy.
I loooove the paper in the Oxford stone planners. So smooth and nice to write in.
Sounds like it could work for Me.
Interested in knowing more.
Do you set up your days & tasks by times?
That's a great idea, genius ☺️
WHY ARE YOU SO BRILLIANT!!
GENIUS....LOVE this!! Thank you!
I love that you found what works for you, but my ADHD could never 😩
I need full-blown auditory and visual queues to get my attention, such as the ones provided by my iPhone 📱
Same. I end up bouncing between about four planners/journals throughout the year. Recently I've given up on most of them and just been using my phones calendar and alarms
It is neat how unique we all are! I have to have paper for my adhd cause my brain completely is annoyed by beeps!
I try to use my cellphone, but I usually forget, and the agenda app to me is not “tasty” enough. Don’t take my attention, let me lost, it’s a total mess. For finances I’m trying a bought planner, but for personal, until now the best is still the old BuJo.
@SAMMIE ROSR For ADHD try $1 notebook but do bullet journaling. Created by someone with ADHD
I also have ADHD. I find myself more accountable when things are dated (even if it’s hand written) If it’s not dated that means I can do it the next day but I never do. 😂😢😅❤
Great idea! There’s nothing like writing it down in paper! My pocket planner is my life bible. 😊
No, you need 150 dollars worth of stickers.
This is how I exactly plan 😊 Back to simplicity. Love it!!
